Beautiful bowl. I recently did a video for our club since we cannot meet and had a situation where I had to redo a piece. I asked the person putting it up on youtube to cut section out before posting but he could did not and I've had a number of responses in appreciation for leaving the couple minutes in. I guess it is encouraging for others to see our mistakes. On your vacuum chuck leaving a ring inside the bowl - I've had the same issue/frustration. I've started putting a double layer of clear plastic wrap over the chuck. I hold it on with a rubber band then cut an X slit to allow the air through. This has helped eliminate/reduce the ring inside the bowl. Thanks for the great video.

    Beautiful bowl!
I am not a turner but have worked with ebony and mesquite. They are similar species and have dense, hard, and brittle wood. The heartwood and sapwood make nice contrast as is seen in your bowl. The biggest challenge I have had with these woods is that the grain is always twisting and moving around making it difficult to plane, resulting in a lot of tear out and chipping. I normally end up working the piece as best as I can and then sanding down to finished dimension to remove the scars. With that in mind, I am impressed with your lathe work and your result with this ebony. A penetrating finish, like yours, really brings out the dark beauty of these woods. Again, nice job!

Nice Bowl. I think that you could do a cool video of just talking about what was your thought process and the steps that you took to remount the piece after it broke off. That has happened to me in different stages of the process and sometimes struggle to find a way to mount it again safely and as centered as possible to do another tenon.
