As an artist whose art for much of my adult life was compensatory--coming from an abusive childhood and having a good amount of self-loathing, it was all about : look at ME , admire ME , love Me. Then, because of my own evolution, a lot of therapy, introspection and reflection, I finally got out of my own way and was able to become a conduit for Source (when it's at it's best). Sure, I've done the footwork, the 10,000 hours, but it's not about me anymore. I've done the grunt work, but it's totally not about me , and when someone gives me praise or thanks I can say "thank you" sweetly, but I know it's all about something greater than any of us, the Source of Creativity.
I’d love to know if there was an actual moment you realized this. I’m on, what feels like the brink of the shift to creating for the world instead of the “look at ME”.
This is where I’m at with it! Happy to know I’m not alone in thinking that still pursuing the arts can be a selfish thing but doesn’t always have to be. And yes, becoming a vessel for source!! Love it. Keep going
The ending was the best. He didn’t promote anything, he just said thanks and went off. He is a legend. He is full of wisdom and you can see his soul shining through. He is not full of ego , he’s in flow with God. That’s what a real maestro is.
So, no one in this spiritual corner of the internet is aware of Rick Ruben and his association EARLY associations with s3x pred@tors like Russel Simmons, Puffy, and is now hosting white parties now that Puffy can't? Maybe do some background on your maestro. Engery is transferable - directly or indirectly. It's amazing how he is having his second coming after all his old associates are facing criminal charges. 😒
There were moments of this conversation that reminded me of something my brother said many years ago--he's always been very into philosophy and experimental music, film, comedy, etc. He said, "in order for something to be TRULY new, it MUST seem weird." And then he repeated it a second time, lol. I'm glad he did because I fully heard it. That one quote has stuck with me and helped shape everything I've engaged with and done creatively, ever since.
i love the scenery behind Rick Rubin during the podcast, its refreshing, like we dont have to only record inside of studios.. wish more podcasters would do outdoor recordings and it seems like the conversation would be more free and open minded rather than being trapped in a room like droning on and on about the same "issues" in the world.. go the f*** outside and see everything is pretty much going great and peaceful, for most of us, most of the time
I agree that more people should do things outside (depending on the weather) and more people should have access to third-spaces in general! It probably also depends on what kinds of parks and outdoor areas that people live near though (the parks I live near are nice and I've visited occasionally, but I sometimes feel like I'm intruding into people's personal space since some parks are homeless encampments - the housing crisis sucks).
Rick has a grassy garden area enclosed by tall bushes to provide an element of privacy whilst still being sunny and open. Check out his other multiple interviews and conversations over the past few years with a variety of artists and musicians, very casual yet informative.
Love this dude. Sometimes you vibe so heavy with someone they become a mentor and role model without ever having met them- that’s one of the most positive things that social media has facilitated 🙌

I often feel Rick Rubin is such a good and genuinely interested listener that he almost supports any podcast host in just expressing themselves. Always lovely conversations though.
I am thankful to have learned not to compare my work to someone else….I am new to abstract painting…4 weeks to be exact and I found myself comparing my work to other artists in my art tribe….I decided that I need to stop staring at least for a time until I can work past that feeling I need to compare….I am 73 years old…I don’t have much time to get this right! I let my spouse make too many decisions for me and I am taking back my power at this late date…I am listening to that inner voice finally…I am thankful that inner voice is still with me❤

20:42 What you're all describing is the exact reason why I never got a guitar teacher or learned by reading material. Simply was taught one song by my brother at about 11 And I'm now 38 and still play.... And I still have that absolute raw soul when I make things up.... Everybody I know that took the approach of being book learned, lost that level of soul in their art. Which is a life lesson to take in. The other life lesson was just recent with guitar. As I stopped playing for a long time. And I got another acoustic strung it up and started playing only 3 minutes each morning. And surpassed myself phenomenally fast by only doing that and recorrected mistakes that I had never gone back to request because I was kind of advanced past them and used to doing it how I was doing it.... So I use the opportunity to kind of fix those bad habits... So here's the other life lesson of it's just the consistency of everyday basically. And to know enough to put it down when you're having trouble, and leave it be for a little bit. Also a lesson I took in from skateboarding. And when you come back to it, you'll likely be better if you put it down long enough. Every time I got super frustrated. Skateboarding. Sorry for the switch from guitar to skateboarding. But every time, I don't end up getting super frustrated and breaking my board or something. So I wouldn't skate for about a month. Hop back on the board and land the trick instantly that I could never do before... The times that I didn't take a break. Well I never really landed the trick.. not right at least....

Aubrey is not really listening to Ricks" answers. He gives a short "right," in response and then elaborates on his question instead of asking a question based on Ricks' answer. It is extremely crushing to watch as I'd like to hear more of Ricks' elaborations than Aubreys'. Is Aubrey supposed to be an interview-er, or is this a discussion type of thing where Aubrey is supposed to keep talking about his experiences?
I noticed a lot of these YT interviews do the same! I guess lack of training. One thing good about mainstream big interviewers is they are trained perfectly but we all know they are a part of the (liberal media industrial complex).
He talked more about himself and didn’t asked questions after receiving an answer. All the way to the end he talked more than Rick. I like the interviewers who ask questions and more questions following the answers, and allow us to learn about the guest not the interviewer lol!
That's interesting because I picked up this vibe two minutes in but was hoping it would improve. Thanks for saving me the time of watching the whole video.
This was a great piece of wisdom creation and Love, i was in Long beach for a week in February at Cali Vibes and i listened to Rick’s book A way of being and as a artist it opened a huge door…… i wrote 15 pages of life poetry and lyrics ( something i never do. Thank you so much. ✌️❤️✌️❤️✌️❤️✌️❤️✌️❤️
Similar condition here as well! Thank you for putting that so eloquently Aubrey! I really appreciate his response and I'm looking forward to the seed revealing itself as the right path in my own life or recognizing it, getting closer I think 😅
Wow thank you Aubrey, and thank you Rick. Beautiful words, kindness and as an artist myself, traveling this road within for many years, struggling a bit lately... so I needed these words. It's refreshing to know there are souls I resonate with. Thank you for this channel. Incredible!
Being from Long Beach, New York - where Rick grew up as far as I know - but never having heard Rick talk about it much, I wish I could hear more about his childhood there. I wonder if maybe he was already spending so much time in the city by a certain age that he just doesn’t think much about those times much any more, but something I’ve always wanted to learn more about. Food for thought in case you guys wind up speaking again.
Or planting the seed in the wrong season. Gardening has truly helped Me work through so much of my human qualities like thinking I hold any real control of events
I wonder… why all these YT guys do this. We’re here to listen to Rick’s wisdom and answers to questions given to Rick. The dude made the interview with words about how he feels and thinks!
Lovely exchange in here about waiting lazily for the world to tell you what to do vs. just paying close attention to what happens around when you when you are working hard and with intent. Very important distinction that many don't understand but these guys both definitely do.
Awesome Aubrey, great presentation. Yes, like the Huna principles state, NOTHING is impossible, therefore everything is possible. It is only the self dwelling in fear, that holds one back from creating masterpieces.
When my voice was hoarse for a long time, I finally did the mudras - found online, for the hoarse voice, vocal chords, fifth chakra, and I began singing mantras, and that yahveh song with loads of holy names, I think the sweetest words like the names of gods and goddeses helped a lot. U know, use ur gifts to praise him/her, that's healing.
The library dropped Mr Rubin’s book into my Libby App today. How did TH-cam’s algorithm know? Never heard of this channel and here we are. An interview with Mr Rubin. Coollll 😊
Yep, i question the effect of airpods long-term on native body signalling. Nicotine is good for cross-hemisphere brain activity though. Cigars are atleast a natural handmade product & not inhaled *soooo not healthy for gums long-term but definitely a psychoactive substance... its classified as an Entheogen. I smoked them for years, later had periodontal work done below the gumline & maaan.... the tar build-up was insane (& you couldnt see it above the gumline, crazy). Approach with cautuon! 😂
Ah you are both so great and inspiring, thanks for this convo❤️✨I woke up today feeling very flat and decided to go to insta and Aubrey popped up on my feed and I genuinely felt like hearing him lifted my energy and reminded me.

I just seen on another podcast (Next level soul)A Rocket Scientist who explained how your third eye is activated when being creative, painting ect. I seen my grandpa just for two seconds in my minds eye. Once you see through that eye.. it's a beautiful thing. Since there's no separation between any of us, now's the "time" to turn up your inner light's. Dim out the "spirit sniper" Flava Flave would say 💜💜💜💛💛💛💫
excellent conversation about the seeds of our creativity ... I think the spirit of the muse decides for. us ... and we just have to show up and go with the flow.
This came at the right time! I really appreciate this conversation! I'm having a hard time making music again. I thought learn to be a dj since everyone else is and maybe that would spark something but this convo helped me stay on my path. I'm literally drawing the metatron symbol on my throat as I listen. 😊
Happy Birthday Aubrey! Was guided to your channel today and this video called to my heart. It's Feb. 28! Wishing you an exuberant birthday! 🥳 Heart, mind, and soul expanding podcast like always. Thank you both for shining your brilliant light.
Thank you 🌙✨ I really enjoyed the visuals and profound thoughts and historic universal contexts and feelings shared ! I love all the musical / commercial discussions and everything that expanded out to alot of wisdoms I have been feeling ! Felt validating to hear these being expressed. I love it! I will listen again ! ; ) thank you so much!
This was great. I totally resonate with the power of spirit and when it shows up in my work. I always feel like it's not something I made but that I was guided to make. I am an instrument. Also, I always have to go to my favorite beach and sit on the jetty for a while when I need to be grounded. I've known this most of my life. Thank you for this talk today. ❤❤❤
Well this was fabulous!!! Thank you both so much!!!😁 Just gonna share something idk why but I thought was sorta funny but haha it’s not. When you two sweet loving kind people are saying how you cannot figure how some people believe they know what is best for someone else and kind of in wonderment that some people must believe they do. My immediate thought is that there are no people who truly believe they know best for others. They may package their ideas in this way; what they are really doing is believing they know what is best for themselves, relative to what others are doing. They attempt to control not to offer what they believe is best for another; it’s what they believe is best for another as per how that particular circumstance of the other will actually affect their own lives. I guess what I thought was funny is that you are both such beautiful people you felt clueless there. It’s certainly not a funny situation; I was just enjoying both of your immediate beautiful thoughts. It’s difficult to understand how someone might be hateful or mean when you are loving and kind yourself. ✌️
Wow Aubrey!! First time watching an interview from you and I'm blown away! I love your mindset and peaceful demeanor!! You and Rick vibed and I had a great time watching❤
What a beautiful being. Definitly got hit with some big resonations to start my art. I have two paintings in mind i want to do. I want to learn dogital creator content to make mysstical short videos
Rick Rubin has produced a book that addresses creativity beyond anyone else, ever. I have his book on Audible on a loop! I have his book, to which I add stars and underline remarkable thoughts. Problem with that is, EVERYTHING is underlined. Coupling Steven Pressfield’s, “The War of Art”, with Rubin’s book, “The Creative Act”, an artist is set. All they need do is follow through. Feel the inspiration and follow through.
If there is one take away I made in this whole discussion is that never worry about some afterlife if there is one but instead, worry about making the most of this life we're given.
❤thank you for sharing this Jem !!!! I love this and need to get out of my own way and this is so inspiring. In process of reading the creative act now, and been a long time listener to both.
Lovely conversation, thank you. That tendency that some have to want to rip other people apart is really disturbing. I notice it more now in the age of the internet than was ever obvious before. There were always art reviewers, of course, who would make some cheap jibe that they didn't even believe, to get the alliteration and fill column inches. I remember an art critic years ago, who damned the winner of the Turner Prize as narcissistic non-painter - just for the alliteration of Ns. Ah well. Those who can, do. Those who haven't got the guts, sneer at those trying. T'was ever thus.
So many truths - really enjoyed this discussion, thank you. What you said at the end about inner radiance versus having endless cosmetic procedures is very relevant. I feel like you go to a social event these days and everyone looks the same! It’s like being in a room full of clones. No surprise that I deliberately don’t bother to mix with those kinds of people- I’m naturally drawn to people who are authentic & tuned into source energy
I love this fkn guy!!! I love the way he thinks because it resonates with me. I have known about Rick Rubin AKA DJ Double R formerly of the Beastie Boys when Def Jam was at its beginning. Whether he actually DJ’d or made beats doesn’t matter to me, the fact that he has a way thinking about ideas and having the right combination of people and resources to create and make them a reality is what matters to me. He is known as a reducer and it was printed on those early Def Jam records, the maroon and grey label at the time. Reduced By Rick Rubin. His way of doing things then is how things are being done now using ChatGPT, you have an idea, you input that idea into ChatGPT, the ideas are presented to you and you solve a problem by having the right people and resources. Great interview Salute 🫡

Rick Rubin is the BEST!
Never heard of Rick before (as a french) but I feel so much gratitude to know him now ! Thanks Aubrey once again 🙏🌟
Incredible!
Looking forward to this! I love the episodes that delve into the spirituality, instinct and synchronicity behind creativity.
From the beginning this conversation it’s already powerful and beautiful
TRANSFORMATIVE BOOK!!🙌✨ Thank you for this interview, Aubrey!🤍
Or planting the seed in the wrong season. Gardening has truly helped Me work through so much of my human qualities like thinking I hold any real control of events
I feel that
I want to hear the guest, Aubrey, let the guest speak or you will lose us! Thanks!
I don’t think he did that at all
Exactly my thoughts...I want to hear the guest.
I wonder… why all these YT guys do this. We’re here to listen to Rick’s wisdom and answers to questions given to Rick. The dude made the interview with words about how he feels and thinks!
We’re here for Rubin and this guy just yappin his ass off
He don’t get it, we don’t care about his life at this moment. All through it he acted like the interview is about him!
Thank you Aubrey for introducing Rick to me...he is the real deal!!
U know, use ur gifts to praise him/her, that's healing.
and nothing from the fridge!

I didn't understand him, and I did what he did. Well, everyone's is unique.
This was a great self interview. I learned a lot about Aubrey’s life today!
Seize my pen to write my own life, create my own masterpiece. I like that visual....
Good evening Aubrey and Rick
Truly grateful for your super sensemaking.
💜
The library dropped Mr Rubin’s book into my Libby App today. How did TH-cam’s algorithm know? Never heard of this channel and here we are. An interview with Mr Rubin. Coollll 😊
seeing aubrey with the cigar and airpods definitely rises a judgment from me, trying to recognise this and let it go
same same
Yep, i question the effect of airpods long-term on native body signalling. 😂
The cigar was a definite distraction… Does he do that a lot? I’m new to this podcast and it was a turn off.
i kinda wanted to say that, glad someone else did. i still loved this interview either way.
Imagine bringing a guest on and only talking about yourself the whole time.
And rudely blowing smoke the whole time- jeez🤦🏽common decency - manners!
Thanks Aubrey for always being real and speaking the realest thoughts. This podcast sank deep. Exactly what I needed to hear.
Amazing! Damn Rick Rubin and Charles Eisenstein working on the campaign of Robert. So much hope and excitement when I think about this.
🙏 THANK YOU ❤
I NEEDED THIS TODAY. I am so grateful to you both for opening up ~~~ NAMASTE
Ah you are both so great and inspiring, thanks for this convo❤️✨I woke up today feeling very flat and decided to go to insta and Aubrey popped up on my feed and I genuinely felt like hearing him lifted my energy and reminded me.

💚😎
Why did I find it so refreshing that he did not want to add any special message at the end? Thank you for this, I loved every second!
One of the best podcasts from Aubrey.😊
Well this was fabulous!!! Thank you both so much!!!😁
Just gonna share something idk why but I thought was sorta funny but haha it’s not.
Ohhh… Pure Brilliance. I love this conversation!
I’ll Re Turn to it often. Thank you both!
Wow Aubrey!! First time watching an interview from you and I'm blown away! I love your mindset and peaceful demeanor!! You and Rick vibed and I had a great time watching❤
His book : Créativité; Un art de vivre ( the creative act, a way to live) should be mandated to be read in high school or college. In my top 5 books.
Heck yeah, had a feeling this one would be coming eventually. Stoked to dive in
Thank you Aubrey! I'm a first time subscriber ! Peace love and light everyone !
happy birthday @aubrey marcus ... really enjoyed that! love
What a perfect moment to hear this conversation 💜
BRILLIANT!! This is a great interview, notice nobody promoted anything, no "follow me on/click like/subscribe to my" etc. Just wisdom.
What a beautiful being. Definitly got hit with some big resonations to start my art. I have two paintings in mind i want to do. I want to learn dogital creator content to make mysstical short videos
Big gratitude for this video to both of you. My heart needed it! Big love❤
I admire Rick Rubin so much. One of the great masters. If we could be more like Rick the world would be a much better place.❤
Bingo!
Thank you, Rik Ruben for all that you do thank you Aubrey also
Rick Rubin has produced a book that addresses creativity beyond anyone else, ever.
Great opportunity but too much aubrey not enough Rick, he is gold.
Bingo! I learned a lot about Aubrey! 😅
19:11 the fact you saying that gave me that feeling is crazy
This was hands down one of the best interviews I've heard 🎉thanks I liked and subscribed ❤
He’s so right 😊
Love that he spoke on recognition and acceptance x
So many truths - really enjoyed this discussion, thank you. What you said at the end about inner radiance versus having endless cosmetic procedures is very relevant. I feel like you go to a social event these days and everyone looks the same! It’s like being in a room full of clones. No surprise that I deliberately don’t bother to mix with those kinds of people- I’m naturally drawn to people who are authentic & tuned into source energy
4:12 the sapling imagery that you wrapped up was beautiful
“Do your worst, for I shall do mine.”
Guys good talk💪🙏 tu
Connecting with God. The ultimate creator is the best way you can tap into the source of creativity!
Real men!! Happy birthday, Aubrey! You are an exemple
What a fantastic interview! Thankyou! I'm off to buy Rick's book!
This is a hidden gem of confidence for me. TY
