I’m 34 minutes in and I had to stop and comment. The way he articulates the procrastination process as an artist is absolutely spot on. I’ll sit for days and procrastinate only to become completely alive once I start actually making the artwork. What a wise, gentle, and relatable gem this man is!!
I once heard my guides say to me.."let go and become the experience" It really feels like what he is saying is what my guides were saying to me that day💗
After retirement, I took up painting. Im artistic but hadn't spent time in my life actually creating "framable" art. Well, I honestly don't know how I create what I do. My best paintings come through me, like I am channeling. I won top prize in my first major competition with a painting that took less than an hour to do. I can't even reproduce the technique again. I say this because we do just need to let go of resistance and see where spirit leads us.
This has happened to me with music before. I open up an old project and on occasion it feels like it was made by someone else. I have no clue of how I was in the frame of mind to but the composition together they way I did. It's like I have different eras where I catch a state of flow and you can tell what music came from that era. It feels impossible to get back into that same type of flow where I'm seeing things the same way.... But if you stick with it long enough a new flow comes along that you can riff off of for a little while.
There is a reason why The Creator is named so. The Divine is not gone and away, but present to have relationship with us. His Grace blesses us in ways where such co-creativity flows out of us in abundance. Be open to Him. Respectfully, I have had similar experiences like yourself when it comes to writing. Be open to the teachings of Christ and the Way. Life before compared to life after following His teachings and being in relationship with God? No comparison. Peace, Grace, Truth, Love to you, sister.
"I say this because we do just need to let go of resistance and see where spirit leads us." Thank you for sharing your great experience! I have a question I hope you'll answer. Do you feel as if it would be much more struggle for you to do painting when you were younger? Do you feel the fact that you started painting only after retirement in fact made you better at painting because you haven't had big expectations and therefore didn't have to struggle with as much resistance? Thanks!
I think part of the fear of success for many (certainly is for myself) is the fear of being seen. It’s a fear of vulnerability. Our art in many ways is our soul expressing itself; it’s the most vulnerable expression and to do that in front of thousands if not millions of people is scary. We as humans have pain over never being seen but I think we also can have a fear of being fully seen… of being seen in our fullness and truth. To be that open and baring it all…. That’s for the brave
Well said, I'm a writer and also exploring art through various mediums, I completed a sketch book (took me nearly two years, but I finished it!🎉) which showed me that I don't need permission from anyone to be a writer or an artist (or both) I also believe that the idea that society has in relation to art and creativity, that is unless you are published or have your own art exhibition, then you are not really a writer or an artist and instead, you have a "quaint little hobby" This has actually been said to me, and now I find it quite funny that people only view the arts as meaningful if someone else has paid money for it. Love this conversation ❤ and I also have this gentleman's book currently on my wishlist 😊🌻💕
Ok, but can we appreciate and highlight the beautiful chemistry between them both? Not only was Andre asking questions, but also Steven wanted to ask Andre, which shows that a wise man is still seeking lessons and answers from the younger generation. The flow of this conversation and bouncing off the different chapters of the interview (let me stay in the theme of the podcast) is a 10/10 experience as both a listener and a speaker I'm sure! Thank you!🖤🌟
I’ve watched a few interviews with Steven. He’s a wonderful guest, very affirming to whoever is doing the interview. For me, watching him as an interview guest is a fantastic roadmap on how to bring out the best in whoever you are talking to
Steven Pressfield is the only writer I've written so far. He replied within hours and was always super kind. His historical fiction is what really made me want to succeed as a writer. I'm still not published (not in English anyway) but the day is coming.
5 minutes in and I’m in tears already. Being an artist is truly challenging. Fear of success, procrastination and what not.. been struggling with it for more than a year now. Like the soul wants to create so much through me, but the fear holds my hands back. It’s a constant battle.
Hey, yes I used to post on my Instagram, but since I’m not been able to create anything I deactivated that account. Hopefully will start creating soon.
I want to see your work. I make music and feel the same as you do. Now you got me interested in your works and hear how successful you will be soon! @@Its-Swati24
Why not do a very small and short sketch.... just to start with project? It will unblock all your blockages - and open the flow of ideas for future projects.
Jeez… incredibly on-time, thank you both so much for covering this topic. “F.E.A.R. - Fear Everything And Run …or… Face Everything And Rise” .. I created some exciting work, yet the size of the project has produced such a horrible procrastination & paralysis within me. But starting today I’m going to Face Everything And Rise. Thanks again, and wishing the same for everyone else here. Let’s keep adding our own unique expressions to the world ❤
I think one of the fears surrounding the fear of success is the fear of being able to sustain it. That once you have succeeded and achieved a certain level, there is now the fear of keep bringing something new and successful and the judgement that comes when one has succeeded and reached the top, in having all the attention on them
I have been going through this one. I am practicing. I will be able to choose each step of the way so if I don’t feel it anymore… ok. Just not having the expectation on myself. I feel you on this deep.
You most Definitely nailed it.Have personally experienced the syndrome of how do you sustain the creative success and where does one go from there facing more of the unknown. My god what an insightful interview!!!
I was recently part of an art exhibition. All my art except one piece had been inspired by other works. The one piece was something that I let my soul guide me. When one other girl came to view my stand, she picked out the piece that I did from my soul as her favourite. Follow your heart it means more than you can imagine.
I published my first book on Amazon. My wife was completely my muse. Every idea was created in the bathroom or around water. The process flowed perfectly.
This just popped up on my screen out of the blue at the EXACT MOMENT I needed it. I am an artist and writer who has been struggling immensely with imposter syndrome and fear of success. You two gentlemen are PERFECT messengers for me RIGHT NOW and I treasure hearing and reading more! THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH for showing up for all of us!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh I SO agree! He is wonderful! I kept thinking "man I wish I'd had a father like him, he gives such great advice with such a humble and honest genuine vibe" ❤
My opinion on what stops people is trauma. If they do the thing they want to do it’s the fear that they will get criticized, that the criticism is true, that people will recognize them and agree it’s awful; if they are good then there is attention and they can’t handle the attention even if it’s good. I find that those that are successful at what they do there is a confidence that reflects love in their life that didn’t disappoint them to the point of fear. For people with trauma, there is such fear in the criticism, the success, the attention that brings up such big feelings that they don’t know if they’ll be able to handle it.
I am a musician. This was so helpful on so many levels. I am not a perfect artist, and I have many blocks, but I can say that I do create a lot. What really helps me when I'm feeling self conscious or I get lost in the weeds of worrying about opinions, is to aim for the feeling of CREATIVE SATISFACTION. It is my north star. If I get that satisfying/surprising feeling like "oh yes!", I just follow that. At the end of the project, if I feel a sense of relief and release, I know I have done the job. After that, opinions come and go.
Andre, your interviews are the epitome of professionalism, warmth, and intuition! I applaud you for all of the energy and effort that you put into each and every one of your podcast! You truly are the only one that I listen to! Thank you🙏🙏🙏
Oh, the irony of life! I planned to paint all day today and here I am procrastinating by watching this video. Great info and I was half-way through it before I decided to paint now, listen/watch the video this evening when I’m done working. Thank you for this timely video (for me, at least!).
Great conversation… I have struggled with self sabotage for 50 years. I have had great ideas and let them die on the vine. I have recently committed myself to daily action to get my creative ideas out. This real helped me identify and deal with resistance and let my inner self create without limitations.
I’m only 20 minutes into the discussion and am totally floored that this man is saying exactly how I feel when it comes to creating my art! My creations always surprise me when they’re finished. So much so that I can hardly believe I’m the one who created them. It truly feels like there is some Divine influence while I’m painting or drawing my pieces. It’s like I stand back and am in awe that it came from my own hands. I do, when beginning a new piece, ask that Spirit help me with it. All of my artwork is commissioned work and so it absolutely must have life in it, and somehow that is always achieved and I am shocked and grateful that I can do this for others. 🙏✨ This is such an awesome interview and now I’m going to get back to it. Thank you, Andre!
OMG…I feel the same way. When I finish a painting I feel like it is a fluke! How did I do that? I’m sure it’s just a one-time thing. Then it happens again! I’m finally understanding that, “I can do it!” But I am still shocked every time.
Check non duality direct path teachings this is confirmed with Jesus real teachings that a lot have misinterpreted....in the direct path consciousness and awareness of that divinity within us is the creator...know thyself for sure. Just discovered this podcast and Id like to join forces with this kind spirited soul brother in my soon to be organically produced podcast getting artists right into this field plus of course music, energy and all of it
I too experience this. One time I needed help with a painting as I was stuck and stressed. I asked for help! Hilariously, I received it and the insight made me add a couple of well placed lines that solved the issue. I had the feeling my ‚muse‘ felt a bit exhausted with me😂! Usually my ‚insights‘ come from a very kind, understanding and friendly source.
Fortunately I'd saved this podcast to my 'watch later' list or I would have missed it. It opened itself to me at just the right time too. I've always felt I had something to offer the world and when I couldn't be heard, I turned to painting at 40. That too 'I allowed to be shut down' and at 80, I've realized that if I move again, all I'd care to take with me is my air mattress and my art materials! And yet I still wasn't able to get back to painting! After listening to this podcast, you have affirmed to me that as my time of healing nears completion, I will make that move with my art materials and pen and paper (for writing) and start the rest of my life which will eclipse all I've accomplished so far in life. I look forward to finding works by Steven and following your podcast as well. The words 'Know thyself' have been a mantra for most of my life. I'm ready to face myself and my many foibles and get back on life's journey and see where it leads me.
❤ Sounds like channeling to me. The 'Muse' is more often a real separate entity that you find yourself in resonance with in order to bring a thought or memory from the unseen realm into the material world. "All is frequency and vibration" once said a well known scientist/inventor. The feeling of "this isn't me" says it all.
Ive heard people say artists , singwriters dont actually write the songs but are gifted or sent/channeled but even if thats the case , there must be something special about the person to be chosen surely?
I definitely agree with Steven here. When I was in the process of making The Dreaming of You! Shaman Oracle deck I felt the big creative force moving through me. And I asked myself many times, “How the hell did I just draw or write this!” Felt a deep purpose and privilege to capture the essence of the cards and writings.
I love him so much. What a wise man, like I just want to give him a hug so that I can gain all his wisdom 😂. Thank you so much for this. As a writer and content creator I can relate to those creative blocks. Having days where I don’t want to write, but as soon as my fingers touch my keyboard, I’m able to write, then get into a state of flow. It truly is magical. I’m currently writing a sci-fi novel and I’m amazed with how the character development and story is unfolding right before my eyes. I’m aware of the plot, but I’m unaware of how the next page will be written. Creators are the instruments of art. Our job is to invoke emotion and inspiration. Who’s to say where this comes from? Well… that’s the rabbit hole 🕳️ 🐇 which is best explored over a bottle of wine, or a cup of coffee. Won’t you join me? 😌
As I am an struggling artist... This may be the most important podcast I've ever heard. Thanks for having this remarkable interview available to everyone, Andre!
Oooshhh!!! . Fear of success!! Fear of dying without that success that i know is inside of me at almost 40! That's a real thing and even though i know that. I've no idea where to start!!
@NothinginBetween11 You're not alone. At 70, I feel the same way. Listen to this brilliant conversation again and again. I'm sure it will trigger something in you as well.
I do a daily practice of writing. It helps keep me disciplined, to sit down every day and do the thing. The big blank page or canvas or whatever can still be intimidating, but I think it is important that we have fun. Creativity is really such a joyful experience when something amazing, wondrous, profound, and beautiful comes through you. You look at it and stand in awe, and you are transformed as much as anyone who interacts with what came through you. I like the invocation of a prayer to the creative force. I am definitely going to start doing that because I have mad reverence for my creativity.
His journey is almost like that of Neale Donald Walsch' story that was also not successful yet at old age, homeless at 50 before gaining success through his Conversation with God books. I love your quote in the beginning, very inspiring. I enjoyed listened to this, resonated with me so much. Thank you 🌟
Great interview with one of the Greats, Andre!! I Love that Steven Pressfield asked you what Dharma is. Such a beautiful moment of humility and genuine connection. When he spoke about that layer of resistance between us and the creative Source/God/Goddess and how we can reframe it and use it as fuel to push through…call bullshit on it. I felt that. Brought tears to my eyes. Ultimately it’s a choice-so liberating. 🙏🏼💯
Lightworkers are beginning to speak up about our creative wild imaginations and the intuitive intelligence that our hearts reveal to us through the source. Our guides are really proud of us for shining the light and standing strong 💪. Love and light my fellow star seeds 🌟💡🙏🙇💚✨💥✌️
Steven's book, The War of Art is a really good book that has helped me view the way I show up creatively differently! I appreciated him talking about how the muse wants to get in touch with us, and we also want to but cut ourselves short.
I first read Pressfield's "The War of Art" book some 7+ years ago, & it was life-changing. So much so, that I would not only gift copies to creative friends for Christmas, etc., but tell creatives that I would refund them their $10 or so if they didn't get anything out of his book. It was such an EASY, quick ready, yet profound without being 'woo-woo', & felt like having a 'kick-in-the-butt' conversation with your grandfather or father. This video has been a fantastic follow-up to the book, and Pressfield is indeed that stern but gentle, divine masculine, wise motivator in person! Thanks Andre for the great interview & questions! But, EVERYONE - definitely go buy the book - it's SOOO powerful, I guarantee it, & I'm NOT a strong book reader.
So good!!! The energy that's only focused to disrupt. My husband sings to it to trasmute/change it into love, 'why cant we be friends, why cant we be friends....'
Love Steven's honesty and showing his true self to us. Wow......the way he explains self doubt is perfect! I have imposter syndrome quite often when I get an idea, I do it anyway, but it's a bummer. I love that he does not know all the lingo......he is so down to earth and that is refreshing.
I love your podcast/TH-cam channel Andre’. Your way of connecting with your guests brings out such rich content! In crippling fear - RESISTANCE, I stumbled upon Steven Pressfield through his books (particularly “The War of Art”), and wrote my first book. I’m forever grateful for his loving and firm kick in the ass. Here I am again, afraid and wanting to create more, and the Muse channeled through this podcast is hearing the call. My gratitude. 🙏🏼
One of my favorite comments (of many) was that the voice that keeps trying to stop me is NOT ME! That took my breath away!! This conversation was so delightful, I can’t wait for the follow-up. There MUST be one. Thank you both 🙏🏽
Excellent podcast Andre. Your guest Steven Pressfield was very informative about navigating through the creative process. Facing our fears as well as achievements. To be aware how the voices distract us, our own voices can sabatoge us. The importance of discipline and that we Are Worthy to create and become our best selves. Also to know that when we dont follow our passion or what we love that we get hints and wispers that we are off our path. Things aren't in resonance. We may notice we aren't happy or don't feel well. An accident can happen to us to wake us up that we are being distracted and need to refocus or go inside our selves to listen and regroup. When we let that happen we waste time in bringing forth our gifts, or the reasons we are here on Earth. We are expressing our Soul and our true nature in our own unique way or trying to find out what we would like to accomplish that feels to us inside that we are doing what feels right so to speak. Andre your questions are thought provoking and penetrating. I found the subject of staying amateur vs going professional, addressed so many core values and as you and Steven discussed 'doing the great work' and the necessity of self discipline and self value in the aspect of money and what to charge. Using the perspective that we must respect our time and effort and years, whatever the time is we have given ourselves to the process and the base of knowledge we have accumulated. You mentioned that we are our own business in that we have to pay our bills, taxes and whatever. So it is important value your Art and self and compensation. Mr. Pressfield also eloquently spoke about the importance of the etherial Goddess /Muse. The importance of connection to the Universe, the alchemical process if you will. To invoke the power of that which we might not think to do in our work space as that space is sacred. Saying a little prayer to bless the space where your heart can come forth and be open to the creative process especially for those of us who are more introverted. To be open to a power greater than our selves. This podcast is filled with a wealth of wisdom, enthusiasm, humor and encouragement. To know that our dharma/our path is a sacred and difficult life journey worthy of our time and effort and ultimately our transcendence. Thank you both for your time and authencity today......Awesome!
what a privilege to be able to sit in on such an informative and enlightening conversation ✨ as i struggled to find my own authentic voice as an artist...my inner knowing spoke something that really helped to free me.... 'NOT ALL ART IS GOOD ART BUT ALL ART IS NECESSARY ART'.....it is a JOURNEY 💖
What a brilliantly honest and enlightening conversation! A real roadmap for artists and creative humans (all of us to some degree!). Love this. Love hearing from our ELDERS! Thank you
As a professional creative w/an array of success and failure for 30+ years, I continue to have my mind blown year after year at; A) the growing pile of self help material targeted at creatives, B) The need for the people selling “A” to define creators as some minority group that needs help and C) how your success as a creative is defined by doing it for money. Just have a routine, eat well, exercise, be kind, get sleep, wake up, and get on with it friends. Don’t spend your life planning your life. Good luck all 🍀😎🖤
I'm 66 years of age working on my recruiting staffing business in silicon valley. I just love what Steve talked about the first thing that rears it's ugly head is resistance. How true! Really good share Steve really enjoyed your honesty and your humbleness. Thank you for hosting this great guest. I'm going to check out your daily press field and yes both you guys should market yourselves. Both of you provide great value great insight and you're helping others in the process. 🙏
I quit reading the Steven Pressfield books because I felt that they became resistance. I read them over and over. Sometimes, listening or watching youtube can be resistance. Put down the book, close the youtube video, and go do something.
You're right, but go do "THE THING!" While reading TWOA, I kept feeling like "OK, I get it, now I need to go do The Thing!" But I forced myself to finish reading it on principal, to know that I knew Resistance. Steve is so real / down to Earth / normal in this video. Asking Andre for input. Steve seems like a great guy.
Thank you for this wonderful interview with Stephen Pressfield. I had a vision during it of all people throughout time from the caveman to the modern man creating “in the zone” and beams of light emitting from their bodies to the “heavens” . Beams of love, even the cleaner washing the floor, the accountant crunching numbers, if they were feeling love doing it, a beam of light shone from them. It reinforced my desire to sculpt. I have a real challenge with procrastination and this answered questions I didn’t even know to ask. Thank you sooo much. ❤
Boooooyeaaahhhhh ..that's the feeling I got at the very end of this episode. Like a very big internal yell. He hit it on the nose piece. It was a very great feeling. Your energy is used very wisely by myself these days.
Thanks for hosting the podcast! I like the idea "think yourself as a professional (because creative endeavours are mostly lonely, lack of a structure like an army)" and the "in service of XXXX corporation" Great stuff and I will implement in my life
I have used his book, “Do the Work” in many of my workshops and have bought the book for my attendees. It is life altering for anyone who will actually read it and take it seriously and apply it.
OMG, this was pure gold. Andre thank you so much for all these questions. I bought Mr Pressfields book a few months ago, I didn’t know he’s such a loving and kind person. Btw, when he asked you about your way of seeing things I thought “damn I wish I could watch Andre sitting in the opposite chair and someone would ask him the same intelligent questions as he does”
1st time listner to the both of you! Love how you connected #Ikigia to #Dharma. When a podcast brings a feeling that it was made specifically for me to hear is where I HAVE to drop a comment. The meta-physical subjects talked about in this podcast should be further publicly discussed. My take aways from this podcast: "The enemy is within" @32:15 "When the pain at not doing becomes worse than the pain of doing the work, then we'll sit down & do it" @34:12 "The Power of our Light & The Fear we have of it" @34:52 "When lightning strikes? " @1:04:15 Lighting strikes from sitting down and frinding it out daily, forgetting about searching for that "aha" moment aka "Lighting strike" @1:10:20 @1:06:28 " What am i doing wrong" I thought about this last week and thanks to this podcast, it has made me take a step back and see my accomplishments. Currently working on brining out to the world my Purpose. Know you both are living your purpose!
This is so true.! I began my working life in engineering and found I could do things I never imagined I would be able to do. Since then some 35 years ago found I had other abilities to and once I realized that things just happen when we dare to try it became addictive and began to believe I could do anything if I put my mind to it, and still do at 70.
He talked a lot about keep on trying to do what he likes to do and be successful in it and yet going through many failures.. to me he is a successful human being to have experienced so much so to say suffering never hurt anyone. I love this man!
What a great Conversation. Love how Steven was as curious and open to Andre as Andre was to him. It enriched this. Love how this covered the need to combine the creative flow with the day to day business side and hiw to merge them. Thank you both for the gift of this conversation. Blessings 🙏
When you are in the flow of a project that is resonating with the godforce ( or your muse ) nothing can hold you back. You have energy and feel more alive - it's an unstoppable train.
For me it’s not fear of success, it’s fear of failing, not because failing is an issue but because failing means the dream dies. And I love the dream. The dream means the world to me. It’s beautiful, and it fills a huge void in my life. It’s like a best friend that’s always by my side. And if I fail, the dream dies and a part me dies too.😢 That said, nothing is gonna stop me I don’t care if it takes 20 years. I got my own pace with spirit along my side and supporting me in writing this sweet yet powerful story. I get synchronicity‘s all the time, off the charts synchronicity‘s. Thank you, I am ready to surrender and tap in the best I can.
Who are we? Are we not in an endless state of "becoming" that? Always moving towards the Source, the Godhead. Making efforts. "By their fruits ye shall know them." Christ. "Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee, mighty, powerful and self-subsisting." Baha'u'llah.❤ Fab interview! Thankyou!
Love it when he says...take the crazy idea...and work on that. The "Goddess" put that in your heart for a reason - to flesh out and see what's there. Process of exploring...
TALENT COMES FROM LEARNING through experience with the thing you are talented in, so talent does matter. Noone is born with talent, talent comes from lessons as well.
I remember reading the War of Art by Steven 6 years ago and how it helped me at the time overcome resistance for creating. His work came as a beacon for action. Fear of success (the mystery) is something I am still working past six years later, although better capable at moving the needle certainly and being systematically productive.
Andre, this is my first podcast I saw on your channel, and you’re doing a fantastic job. You don’t interrupt the guest, yet bringing up relevant point with amazing insights! Keep it up!
André and Steven, thank you for this excellent interview. I have ordered 'The Artist's Journey' and will be listening to this interview again today for a second time.
Thank you for this supportive interview on how to overcome procrastination and self-sabotage. I am a multifaceted person and it can be overwhelming to be disciplined to go towards my dream to become an entrepreneur. Thank you for opening my heart even more in this journey
The War of Art is one of the best books I’ve ever read, one I always recommend to others. Yes, marking is far more difficult to do than working on your art. Thank you for all your content and this interview in particular.
I'm a 60-plus first time filmmaker who decided to get the story of my family deep inside of me out and now I have a documentary first film getting accepted into film festivals!
Wow! If I was to list all of the concepts that resonated with me, during this podcast, it would be a long list. As a musician and songwriter, I have experienced the Resistance, self-doubt,etc. I have been energized by listening to this, thank you! Some of what Steven said about our drive to create, reminds me of what Federico Garcia- Lorca (early 20th C Spanish poet) wrote about the creative process. He called it el Duende, or spirit. It enters you, and doesn’t leave you in peace until the project is completed. 😂 Again, many thanks!!! 🙏
Andre-you are such a shining light in this world! My daily prayers, setting my intentions, and listening to your podcast are my daily practices for furthering my expansion and my endeavors to be a better being. Thank youuuuu💖
Had to pause a few times, rewind and integrate the gold he shared! 😮 It took me three days to finally finish the interview and I'm do glad I took the time. I've had this awareness of the Muse in my previous work (a channeled novel I wrote a few years ago) and the next book has been on hold for sooo long I'm ashamed to say. I couldn't understand. Why was it so hard to write when I had done it twice already?!? Hearing him talk about Resistance, puts all that under a different light. Wow. So many things I got from this, I cannot believe it. Might have to watch it again!!! 😂
So happy to see this. You and Steven Pressman, once again a beautiful conversation. This one resonated with me to the core. That darn imposter syndrome/fear, I’ve been journaling about this for a week or two. I’m ready to move forward and this just validated me. Thank you. Blessings, peace and love to you!
While listening this podcast second time i realised i did had it watched first time… man you helped me build principles of my life. Thank you Andre and Steven❤❤❤
"Fear of success" is such an interesting state of being to ponder. I think that it's the "Responsibility" of success that is intimidating. Initiation is one thing, sustaining is another. Also the threat of LOSS of that success could be too much for some people.
I love what Steven says about copying Henry Miller straight from the book. He says "typing" but I used to do the very same thing (with another author) -- copy the work directly, by hand into my notebook. Why ? It was an unusual cycle, something powerfully made me do this laborious task. It felt as though I was channeling the genius and soul of the author. Probably Laurence Durrel's Justine. Thank you for this wonderful interview, so relatable for a lifelong writer.
“The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
I needed to see this today. I'm in the process of surrendering to the muse and of course I'm dealing with all these voices in my head saying "You can't do that! It will lead to ruin?" I just need to tell those voices it's bullshit, and work through it. Yes! Thank you so much!
Thank you both for this one. I have just listened to 3 other folks talk about being kreative: Julia Cameron, Elisabeth Gilbert and Jim Ferriss. Maybe you want a talk with them, Andre ? I learned some important things from this one. "Choose the hardest one, when you have more ideas. " At times the hardest one can also be the most exciting one, I think. I enjoy being a poet. Best of lovefilled wishes from Denmark.
I’m 34 minutes in and I had to stop and comment. The way he articulates the procrastination process as an artist is absolutely spot on. I’ll sit for days and procrastinate only to become completely alive once I start actually making the artwork. What a wise, gentle, and relatable gem this man is!!
I go through the same thing! And sometimes once that trigger is finally pulled, I do not want to stop for almost anything! Lol!
That’s basic neuroscience 😊 the energy goes where the focus is. So our motivation only comes when we are actually taking action.
yes... agree... enjoyed the energy of these two in convo very much.
Pressfield is great. Get his book, or listen to it on TH-cam. The War of Art.
Yes, he stated it very well.
"Even when you think you're lost, you're not." I love that!!!
I once heard my guides say to me.."let go and become the experience" It really feels like what he is saying is what my guides were saying to me that day💗
Krishnamurti said something along this words: we are not the experiencers, we are the experience.
so straight forward and powerful, thank you for sharing.. that can be applied at any moment in life!
Thank you! This makes sense. 💛
Not your guides. Your thoughts. Your intuition.
@@hookerit5844no I think they meant GUIDES
After retirement, I took up painting. Im artistic but hadn't spent time in my life actually creating "framable" art. Well, I honestly don't know how I create what I do.
Totally relate to you! Thank you for sharing 💫❤️
"I say this because we do just need to let go of resistance and see where spirit leads us."
Thank you for sharing your great experience!
I have a question I hope you'll answer. Do you feel as if it would be much more struggle for you to do painting when you were younger?
Do you feel the fact that you started painting only after retirement in fact made you better at painting because you haven't had big expectations and therefore didn't have to struggle with as much resistance?
Thanks!
Very true!
Yes! This resonates with me. That fear is what I'm currently working on facing.
@@megankwisdom me too. I don’t know how I’m ever going to publish any of my art but I know one day I will get to that point where I’m able to.
Well said, I'm a writer and also exploring art through various mediums, I completed a sketch book (took me nearly two years, but I finished it!🎉) which showed me that I don't need permission from anyone to be a writer or an artist (or both)
I also believe that the idea that society has in relation to art and creativity, that is unless you are published or have your own art exhibition, then you are not really a writer or an artist and instead, you have a "quaint little hobby"
This has actually been said to me, and now I find it quite funny that people only view the arts as meaningful if someone else has paid money for it.
Love this conversation ❤ and I also have this gentleman's book currently on my wishlist 😊🌻💕
Absolutely spot on! 💯
Thank you ❤
Ok, but can we appreciate and highlight the beautiful chemistry between them both? Not only was Andre asking questions, but also Steven wanted to ask Andre, which shows that a wise man is still seeking lessons and answers from the younger generation. The flow of this conversation and bouncing off the different chapters of the interview (let me stay in the theme of the podcast) is a 10/10 experience as both a listener and a speaker I'm sure! Thank you!🖤🌟
Well said!
Absolutely!
totally agree, well said. :)
Do you post your work anywhere online?
@@hawtdawg3823 yes, I used to post it on Instagram but since I stopped creating, I deactivated that account as of now.
Let’s keep adding our own unique expressions to the world ❤
This is beautiful, thanks for sharing this!
I feel you on this deep.
... and the energy to keep it up. Maybe, part of the fear, is that the fantasy of success is easier than the effort it'd take.
Wise comments here. Thanks
You most Definitely nailed it.Have personally experienced the syndrome of how do you sustain the creative success and where does one go from there facing more of the unknown. My god what an insightful interview!!!
War of art really had a profound impact on my life. I’d love to have more people read it. It’s all so pure and true.
I was recently part of an art exhibition. All my art except one piece had been inspired by other works. The one piece was something that I let my soul guide me. When one other girl came to view my stand, she picked out the piece that I did from my soul as her favourite. Follow your heart it means more than you can imagine.
this episode has wayyyy too little views for how powerful & insightful it is. Thank you for living your dharma Andre. My favorite podcast.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Perhaps that popping into your feed was the muse giving you a little nudge❤
What a lovely, lovely man Stephen is - I could listen to his soothing, comforting voice all day.
*Steven (spelt his name wrong, I do apologise).
Very good and accurate insights
Plenty of great artists struggled with self doubt and had who knows what pasts to deal with…
I am a musician.
I do the same and it works for me too!
I just follow my muse. And not be concerned AT ALL what anyone would think, thinking about the judgment of others is the quickest flow killer.
Such inspiring words! Thank you for sharing and may the Muse be with you 🙏🏽
❤ Sounds like channeling to me.
Start saying,” I’m a thriving artist “ to change your energy field
Oooshhh!!!
@@cjheru9 I came in here to say exactly this - but you expressed the wisdom already sir!
What a nice and loveable guy, so authentic and natural, fantastic interview. Thank you! 🙏🏻
once again this podcast has produced something extraordinarily inspiring! thank you 🙏🏼
Eternity is in love with the creations of time - beautiful. Love it. A friend put it, "I have learned to be transparent to the Divine Impulse".
This is true wisdom. As a man who is about to turn 84 next week, I will say this: I needed this a long time ago…
Thank you for this Andre. I truly appreciate the diversity of your guests...this is what makes your podcasts stand out.
I love your book!! I am now a painter who paints!!!
Thank you both for your time and authencity today......Awesome!
what a privilege to be able to sit in on such an informative and enlightening conversation ✨
as i struggled to find my own authentic voice as an artist...my inner knowing spoke something that
really helped to free me....
Good luck all 🍀😎🖤
Crazy how this pops up on my feed soon as I opened the war of art back up . THANK YOU!
Would you be willing to send me the email of your agency? I live in the Bay Area and now I’m looking for better opportunities. Thank you.
This is the most informative, insightful, and Delicious conversation on creativity I have Ever heard!! Thank You Gentlemen!!!
That’s a cool synchronicity. I started reading War of Art a few days ago
I quit reading the Steven Pressfield books because I felt that they became resistance. I read them over and over. Sometimes, listening or watching youtube can be resistance. Put down the book, close the youtube video, and go do something.
Felt like this was speaking to me.
You're right, but go do "THE THING!"
While reading TWOA, I kept feeling like "OK, I get it, now I need to go do The Thing!" But I forced myself to finish reading it on principal, to know that I knew Resistance.
I so appreciated the mutual admiration and your two energies coming together!
Boooooyeaaahhhhh ..that's the feeling I got at the very end of this episode. Like a very big internal yell. He hit it on the nose piece. It was a very great feeling. Your energy is used very wisely by myself these days.
Love that!!! There is no you to know- you contain multitudes! More appropriate thing to say is trust your Self. Big S
Thanks for hosting the podcast! I like the idea "think yourself as a professional (because creative endeavours are mostly lonely, lack of a structure like an army)" and the "in service of XXXX corporation"
Great stuff and I will implement in my life
I have used his book, “Do the Work” in many of my workshops and have bought the book for my attendees. It is life altering for anyone who will actually read it and take it seriously and apply it.
This helped so much. I have been writing for over 3 years and hear that voice all the time but now it’s have more confidence. Thank you ❤
OMG, this was pure gold. Andre thank you so much for all these questions. I bought Mr Pressfields book a few months ago, I didn’t know he’s such a loving and kind person.
Btw, when he asked you about your way of seeing things I thought “damn I wish I could watch Andre sitting in the opposite chair and someone would ask him the same intelligent questions as he does”
Im only 15 minutes in and this is already so good. Im pausing to digest it all.
1st time listner to the both of you!
Love how you connected #Ikigia to #Dharma.
When a podcast brings a feeling that it was made specifically for me to hear is where I HAVE to drop a comment.
The meta-physical subjects talked about in this podcast should be further publicly discussed.
My take aways from this podcast:
"The enemy is within" @32:15
"When the pain at not doing becomes worse than the pain of doing the work, then we'll sit down & do it" @34:12
"The Power of our Light & The Fear we have of it" @34:52
"When lightning strikes? " @1:04:15
Lighting strikes from sitting down and frinding it out daily, forgetting about searching for that "aha" moment aka "Lighting strike" @1:10:20
@1:06:28 " What am i doing wrong"
I thought about this last week and thanks to this podcast, it has made me take a step back and see my accomplishments.
Creativity is strongly connected to the flow state.
I love how he talks about 'the goddess' ✨
You hit the nail on the head for me. The thing I fear about success is the responsibility of maintaining it.
Give your dream a chance to live.
Who are we?
Are we not in an endless state of "becoming" that?
Always moving towards the Source, the Godhead. Making efforts.
"By their fruits ye shall know them."
Christ.
"Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee, mighty, powerful and self-subsisting."
Baha'u'llah.❤
Fab interview!
This man is a genius on so many levels. Thank you, Mr. Pressfield.
I love Steven Pressfield. The War of Art is one of my all time favourite books. It was an eye opener for me. Its a must read for creatives!!
Andre, you caught Steven in a spiritual flow state, he's beaming on this podcast. Best one i've with Steven on it by far.
I'm a 60-plus first time filmmaker who decided to get the story of my family deep inside of me out and now I have a documentary first film getting accepted into film festivals!
Thank you so much for this inspiring and encouraging podcast!! I would love to see Steven Pressfield again. Thank you for your work, André!!
I had already goosebumps after just listening to the intro. Thanks so much for both of you making it possible to listen to you.
The synergy between these two beings is rare and powerful. Magnifying light through their interaction. The third light? The light between?
Love his book The War Of Art ! It really had an impact on me. This interview is blowing my mind with synchronicities right now!
Thank you Andre and Steven❤❤❤
steven has such a great talking voice.. its so uplifting and inspiring.. love the way he expresses himself
This is one of the best talks on TH-cam.
He says "typing" but I used to do the very same thing (with another author) -- copy the work
directly, by hand into my notebook. Why ? It was an unusual cycle, something powerfully made me do this laborious task. It felt as though I was channeling
the genius and soul of the author. Probably Laurence Durrel's Justine.
Thank you for this wonderful interview, so relatable for a lifelong writer.

❤STEVEN PRESSFIELD IS A GOD SENT MESSENGER ...LOVE HIS WORK !!!!!
I needed to see this today. I'm in the process of surrendering to the muse and of course I'm dealing with all these voices in my head saying "You can't do that! It will lead to ruin?" I just need to tell those voices it's bullshit, and work through it. Yes! Thank you so much!
These tips are indeed priceless !
