The blurry / smoothing effect on some of the games comes from a filter on the Retron 5. We'll turn that off on future videos since not everybody likes it.
+Bradley Sutton I'm sorry, Metal Jesus aint answering your question. So here is my favourite GBA game: Mother 3 fan translation. My best original GBA game: Medabots rpg (Metabee version)
+Jonhyfun Sorry I don't like to emulate games I already own. Also I pointed out that Drill Dozer, Klonoa Empire Of Dreams, & Dream Champ Tournament are on the Wii U Virtual Console.
Oh my goodness gracious, Newgrounds. Thats what we were all doing in High School. Talk about old memories. Theres some shows I remember watching that I can not remember the names of, two small little creatures that were pretty comedic.
Summon Night! No one seems to know about this game. Really fun RPG where you make your own weapons and can choose from a ton of them. Sword, axe, spear, drill, etc and it's got a lot of charm to it.
My favorite forgotten GBA Gem: Sigma Star Saga. It mashes up Zelda with Metroidvania-style level design and throws in side-scrolling shmup sections too, along with a very well-done story. Plus, it's from WayForward, who I think are some of the most underrated devs in the industry.
when i have a shit day and my aniexity is terrible and I see a notification that MJR has a new video it makes my day. Thanks for what you and other folks do. Huge respect
Oh my gosh, such an amazing selection of games, most of which I didn't even know existed!! You see? THAT's why the GBA is my favourite game system ever! No matter how many great games you get for it, there's always more amazing games you didn't know about! Try Iridion 2 next, it's a very solid shoot'em up by Shin'en with an eargasmatic soundtrack and eye-melting gorgeous graphics!
you and Reggie should do a part 2 & 3 of the Gameboy Advance games I enjoyed this one I believe it needs to be covered more of the Hidden gems out there for the Gameboy Advance metaljesusrocks
Anybody else getting some serious DKC vibes from Blender Bros? The ways the enemies move, the visual design of the levels, and the way you jump and climb and all that... it all looks VERY much like a Donkey Kong Country game. Even the fact that you're apparently controlling 2 characters is pretty reminiscent of DKC. Definitely need to check that one out...
Here's a hidden gem almost no one knows or ever talks about: Iridion 2. Amazing visuals, awesome soundtrack, and lots of fun. I don't know why it's so forgotten.
Man this is why I subbed to your channel in the 1st place about a year ago! I was looking for games that I have never heard about and found your Hidden Gems series! So fun to discover new games for systems that I used to own and had to buy again to play them! And it's even better when you have Reggie over!!! Can't wait for the next one! Great video and keep up the good work!
Absolutely wonderful video, Reggie is superb and an amazing host, always love seeing him on the channel, looking forward to more Reggie and Metal J team ups soon!
Summon Night: Swordcraft Story is one of the best single player/single character action RPGs I've ever played on any system. So glad to see shouts outs to Klonoa (one of my favorite obscure franchises of all time) and Astro Boy!
thanks for the upload, wasnt feeling too good today and seeing a nice hidden jems video with reggie for one of my favorite systems made it much better :D
I watch your videos all the time! I love everyone you bring on. I don't always agree with you guys on your game choices, but it doesn't matter. We are all here for our love for gaming. I've seen some games on your channel that i had no idea about and ended up loving them. Keep making more videos! You guys are amazing.
Some hidden gems (as far as I'm aware) I know are Riviera: The Promised Land, Yggdra Union, Tactics Ogre, and Boktai: The Sun Is In Your Hand (about as gimmicky as they come).
+Grinder And of course Boktai had an excellent spiritual successor on the DS called Lunar Knights! Less gimmicky, but a lot of fun. Can't say I've heard a lot of people mention that one.
I feel bad for any of the younger gamers out there who may want to get into game collecting now that they're old enough to have their own income and come across this video and see that all the titles mentioned in these videos have gone from 15 bucks to 100-200+ dollars. I'm all for physical but I can see why some people prefer emulation, the market basically has a glass ceiling. Either pay a stupid amount of money or you're shit out of luck and if you're not a hardcore collector you can't justify spending that much money on ONE game. Sucks what happened to the retro market, honestly.
physical retro games are becoming more and more for rich people only ... thankfully emulation is only getting better and better, and honestly speaking, I prefer playing GBA games through emulation on something with a larger screen like a steam deck OLED, the games look absolutely amazing and it's still played as a handheld game. Honestly it feels more like what I remember playing when I was a child lol
I really like these hidden gem videos especially the ones for the mighty GBA, they have great advice for collectors. I watched this video yesterday then went retro game shopping later that day to a game store an hour away from me targeting mainly GBA titles, and I came across the Motocross Mania Advance for only 5 bucks so I decided to pick it up along with some other games. If it wasn't for this video, I would have overlooked the game and not even given it a chance. Thanks for making these videos, they are awesome.
hey man i really like your content. its really awesome that you find these hidden gems and let us know about them. keep up the good work. i bought my son (4 year old a gba sp) and he loves it. Now i know what games to get him!
2 from me. Both can be found for like 10$ CIB. -The Scorpion King - Sword of Osiris Yes it's a licensed game, but it's an action platformer by Way Forward. Nice SNES/NES old school feel to it. Definitely worth what it goes for. - Rayman 3 Fixed most of the flaws with Rayman Advance and is a more balanced game. Also it's not a port and the sprite work is absolutely top notch. Looking forward to part 2! /Viewer from Sweden
I expected Reggie to talk about the Summon Night games on the GBA, considering his love for (J)RPGs! Oh well, that's probably a series for the next part :P. I was pleasantly surprised to see Lady Sia on here. It's a game I haven't touched in a while, but I remember having fun with it. Got stuck somewhere and never continued, so I should really get down to beating it already.
Thank you guys so much for putting blender bros on there I have been looking for that game for years now I remember playing as a kid and had completely forgot the name but after seeing the video all the memories came back . I'm picking my copy up today ! Thanks again 👍😁
Nice vid guys - Loved Astro Boy and Drill Dozer, but maybe some import exclusives in part 2? Guru Logi Champ (Puzzler), Koro Koro Happy Panechu (Gyroscopic Puzzler), Rhythm Tengoku (Japanese exclusive prequel to Rhythm Heaven on the DS) and Hachiemon (crazy/funny platformer from Namco) come to mind. Also Rebel Star: Tactical Command (sequel to an old ZX Spectrum strategy game) never gets enough love. All of the above are awesome games ;)
I looove Drill Dozer! Almost completed it but arthritis got the best of me. I very seldom see it in videos and I'm thrilled you have it here! It's great fun, a platformer with extras... Just got the GBA Starfy 1 and 2 only released in Japan. Complete in cute little boxes and not expensive. GBA is great!
MetalJesus, done be a moron by going to ebay of all places on the world wide web. Ebay is the worst place to try to buy old videogames. Amazon is way cheaper
+bonggzilla Ninja Five-O (Cop) is a great game. I discovered that one some years back while looking up roms online. Too bad I'll probably never get the actual cart, it's pretty expensive these days. :(
+MetalJesusRocks yeah a master system episode would be great, it was very popular here in Australia, I got teased mercilessly when I swapped my master system for an Nes
+MetalJesusRocks +MetalJesusRocks I don't know if you've played it recently but the first sonic on the master system is imo one of the most beautiful 8bit games
Man, seeing Astro Boy: Omega Factor and Rock n Roll Racing took me back to my childhood. Thanks for including them ;) Also the Sonic Advance series trilogy is really good but not a whole lot of people know about them, there kind of expensive to get in-box but you can get the cartridge for about 5-10$.
Agreed. But these type of videos hurt collectors out there doing it on the cheap. For example: TMNT (GBA Ubisoft) is a perfect hidden gem, use to be able to find it for $2 - $4 shipped. Then it started popping up on gem videos, next thing you know, its in the $15- $25 for a loose cart. Sucks for us out here doing it on a low budget.
+Thumbstick Gamer : That is just called life. Yes these videos do bring more attention to these cheap games, but it's not like these videos will make these any more expensive or suddenly run out of copies to buy. I can still buy a cheap copy of Lady Sia for £10 right now if I wanted. Plus demand also has something to do with it. Super Smash Bros. on the N64 is expensive on ebayer, not because it's rare, but because people like the series and will pay a lot of money to own the original copy. Yes it does suck, but there are alternatives to playing them. :)
It sucks. Yes, I know there are alternatives, but honestly, I want to experience on original hardware. Same reason I do not have a retron 5. Im still rocking a CRT with my Gamecube GBA player. Im not so sure about videos like this not hurting prices, look at games like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger, neither one really rare, but because there are so many youtubers praising both the prices are ridiculous. Prices are killing retro game collecting, and its the sole reason youll see the markets flooded with $10-$30 reproduction carts in the future.
+Thumbstick Gamer Sounds kind of selfish; not wanting other people to enjoy these games just so you don't have to fork over a few more bucks... I'm a collector too, but I'd so much rather share and give the games recognition that they deserve than just hoard them all for myself.
I can't believe you forgot the game Tomato Adventure! Even though it's Japan only, it's entirely playable with a guide on GameFAQs, and is a must-play for anyone who enjoyed AlphaDream's Mario and Luigi:Superstar Saga, since it's basically that game but without mario and luigi, and every move being a bros. move basically.
Glad to see Rock N Roll racing on here. I had it for Sega and back when the GBA was still in stores I purchased it for the GBA just because I wanted to see how it crossed over. Nobody ever talks about it
While they were only released in Japan, Megaman Battle Network 4.5 Real Operation and Custome Robo GX are some amazing underrated GBA games from some kinda overlooked franchises.
NICE selection of games. Somehow I think the GBA has been my fave of the hand held systems - Drill Dozer is a brilliant game that deserves way more praise. Have loved the Klonoa and Astro boy games too. They're almost on the level of the Castlevania series for quality on the GBA. Love em. Haven't seen much new here, although Lady Sia and Counter Punch has my interest... waiting for part 2! :)
smacked that like button, love it when you cover handheld systems and games Jesus, i've got alot less free time lately which means i can't play too many pc games and triple A titles, handheld gaming can be played anywhere and is just so fun and easy, no open world massive games so i don't get bored and bogged down with the same game for too long... i've been playing my psp and just blasting through tonnes of great titles on it like ps1,psp and gameboy advance games, now i've just picked up a ds for the first time ever, there's alot of titles i've missed out on here holy shit. :)
The blurry / smoothing effect on some of the games comes from a filter on the Retron 5. We'll turn that off on future videos since not everybody likes it.
+MetalJesusRocks What is your favorite GBA game, MetalJesus?
+MetalJesusRocks Thank you. I was just about to complain about that.
+Bradley Sutton I'm sorry, Metal Jesus aint answering your question.
So here is my favourite GBA game: Mother 3 fan translation.
My best original GBA game: Medabots rpg (Metabee version)
+MetalJesusRocks Its nice to see Lady Sia getting some attention. i picked my copy up for £0.50 at a UK charity shop!
+MetalJesusRocks Can you check out Summon Knight Swordcraft Story (1 or 2), I think it's really underrated
Reggie is such a cool dude.
+Bender Rodriquez His body is Reggie!
he *is* number 1
@@Rountree1985 stfu lol. If you think he was being transphobic youre crazy
Transphobic is a word that only dumb people use.
Nah, he is a radical dude
hidden gems= expensive games you should emulate
+Jonhyfun I have the Emulator on my PSP, is amazing!
Luis Arturo Juegos i just wished alien hominid was realesed everywhere, behemoth needs a bigger name
I wished the same to Gunstar Superheroes, i loved Gunstar Heroes for SEGA Genesis and was unfair that the sequel was Gameboy Advance exclusive.
+Jonhyfun Sorry I don't like to emulate games I already own. Also I pointed out that Drill Dozer, Klonoa Empire Of Dreams, & Dream Champ Tournament are on the Wii U Virtual Console.
Tru my phone is my GBA now
Thumbs up if you remember playing the original Flash version of Alien Hominid way back on Newgrounds.
I had the GameCube version back in the day. I love that game
Oh my goodness gracious, Newgrounds. Thats what we were all doing in High School. Talk about old memories. Theres some shows I remember watching that I can not remember the names of, two small little creatures that were pretty comedic.
Yo.
The GBA and PS are my favourite systems of all time. Always enjoy MJS cover these. Well done!
Summon Night! No one seems to know about this game. Really fun RPG where you make your own weapons and can choose from a ton of them. Sword, axe, spear, drill, etc and it's got a lot of charm to it.
thats my shit
I still play my GBA to this day.
Who doesn't ? It's one of the greatest portable device in history !
Well I am using a Raspberry Pi emulator in a gameboy shell to do all my gameboy (and anything before the n64) things.
me too. it's my favorite console. i've had my sp for almost 14 years now, i think.

Man, what a solid line up. That astroboy looks freakin fantastic
I tried to get you to pick it up Joe. You looked at me like I was crazy
Hahaha

Not very hidden, but Wario Ware: Twisted is my favorite of the series. Love the 'twisted' controls.
Riggs!! I need to try that game out
+John Riggs: RIGG'd Games i just recently bought that game on ebay. everything works except the rumble.

My favorite underrated game is Sword of Mana the GBA remake of Final Fantasy Adventure for the original Game Boy.
Such a great game! Loved it as a kid
Good video, some neat games here!

awesome! I'll have to check out Blender Bros! Loved Drill Dozer and Lady Sia, great picks!
I absolutely love Astro Boy: Omega Factor. One of my favorite games on the GBA for sure.
I'm glad you guys mentioned Lady Sia, it's a very underrated platformer and gorgeous to boot!
I've even done a gameplay video about it.
I would definitely like to see a part 2! :D

DBZ Legacy of Goku II is a surprisingly fun RPG that is good even for people who dont like DBZ

how about dragon ball z super sonic warrior's

Rock'N'Roll RACING! OMG, I loved the original one. So nostalgic right now :)
Wade Hixton's Counter Punch is so charming
Also, Lady Sia's visuals are astoundingly similar to Scribblenauts.

Even though it's Japan only, it's entirely playable with a guide on GameFAQs, and is a must-play for anyone who enjoyed AlphaDream's Mario and Luigi:Superstar Saga, since it's basically that game but without mario and luigi, and every move being a bros. move basically.
Lol I'm dead. The Brittney's dance moves story at the end is hillarious
Is amazing how most of these games try to make something new with so few elements. Great video!
Glad to see Rock N Roll racing on here. I had it for Sega and back when the GBA was still in stores I purchased it for the GBA just because I wanted to see how it crossed over. Nobody ever talks about it
Jesus and Reggie is my favorite youtube collab
While they were only released in Japan, Megaman Battle Network 4.5 Real Operation and Custome Robo GX are some amazing underrated GBA games from some kinda overlooked franchises.
Sigma Star Saga is a very underrated game, one of my all time fav Game Boy Advance games. Part side scrolling shmup, part Zelda, all awesome!
The Shining Force remake for the GBA was always a personal favorite of mine.
I love your hidden gems for all consoles, they are always on point.
smacked that like button, love it when you cover handheld systems and games Jesus,
i've got alot less free time lately which means i can't play too many pc games and triple A titles,
handheld gaming can be played anywhere and is just so fun and easy, no open world massive games so i don't get bored and bogged down with the same game for too long...
i've been playing my psp and just blasting through tonnes of great titles on it like ps1,psp and gameboy advance games,
now i've just picked up a ds for the first time ever, there's alot of titles i've missed out on here holy shit. :)
