The ROYAL OAK car meet in Worleston | WILL IT START?

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 3 มิ.ย. 2024
- We're off to a popular car meeting at the Royal Oak pub in Worleston, near Nantwich in Cheshire, in today's video. Our steeds for the day were our 1947 Dodge WC pickup and the MX-5 Mk1. Dad was also there in his MGB GT. As can happen with older vehicles, our day out at the Royal Oak didn't entirely pan out as we thought it might, although returning any old vehicle to the road that hasn't seen much regular use in years is always open to gremlins appearing in the works. The question is, "Will It Start?" or do I go back home on an AA recovery truck?
This was a new-to-us car meeting, where classic cars, several old tractors, motorcycles and some modern sporting machinery gathered together, as did several American pickups.
Let me know in the comments what you thought of this meeting after watching the video, does your car - or your favourite classic car - feature?
If you're new to this classic cars based channel please take a look around, quite a few of the event videos here on the Old Classic Car channel are of meets held across the North West, but there are many others from further afield too.

Well done Kurt the AA man!
Indeed
Well done Kurt, you had the right man there.
Great vid rick, nice to see dad there.poor dodge AA kurt your brilliant.loads of lovely classics, adored the bristol.well done rick.❤
43:57 this is a VW Golf Country from1989 to 1990 with syncro allwheel drive from Steyr Graz Austria. Engine 1.8 liter multipoint injection digifant 98 bhp
Interesting.
📻🙂
Lovely vid. Looks like a quite nice event. From Moggies to Lotus, and even a Bristol! Thanks for another great vid.
Great video
Sad to see the Dodge not working right, but sounds like you’ve got a great plan.
📻🙂
Nice cars as always!
Thanks for video 😊
Glad you got the Dodge home
Sure you will sort it out😊😊
Thank you😊😊😊
I think I might be on to something, we'll see ...
At least you won't need a laptop 😔 to
Sort it out!!!!!! 😜
Cars of the show: dark green MGC GT and (Highland?) green Mustang fastback. I wouldn't have risked parking that gorgeous Bristol on the road! The AA Breakdown Service (or should we say the failure to proceed service?) have never failed me and what a great service you got from Kurt. Shame we don't get salutes from AA men on their motor cycles anymore! I see the Dodge was consigned to the naughty corner in your garage. Pity about the unnecessary, over-amplified racket purporting to be music at some of these meets - not your fault of course, and your own background music is much more relaxing.
Thanks, yes the musical entertainment can be a little challenging at times, not so much at this meet but at others ... well ...
Harley looked pretty cool in those shades at the end.
I had no idea Jensen offered a six pack (3 2 barrel carbs). I thought that was one of the coolest options on MoPars when I was a kid in the 70's. Now I want a Jensen even more. :-)
Nice truck, too heavy to push down the road 😂❤
Ha yes although there were plenty of people around that I could have roped in for a push :)
I think i agree with you about the bristil. My favorite in what you have shown..i really like it in that colour to.
Yes a fantastic looking and sounding car
Looks a nice event .
Yep it is, first time for us but we'll be back (the weather helped!)
Glad to see your father walking around and driving a manual after the knee op. A bit of bad luck with Dodge, I agree sounds like vaccum leak. AA did well. Man that Bristol , how good do they look. Great video again.
Thanks Alan, yes that Bristol is fantastic
Well done Kurt.
Will you film the work you have planned for the Dodge?
Hi, yes I'm already filming investigations and hope to have news soon
👍👍👍👍👍
Another great vid, that Crest brought back memories of a neighbour in the 70’s who had a very similar one with side pipes fitted, it sounded identical to this one as it pulled away and reminded of my dad cursing every time the noise woke him up early in the morning… the star of the show for me was the Red Esprit, fantastic !
100% to the AA Man its great you got home safely loved the video and the weather thank you and thank you you AA Man.
Great advert for the aa 😳🤔
I'm not keen on British culture being diluted (or polluted) by American stuff like these school proms but the V8 Pilot sounds like a good choice of transport for such an event.
I don't mind most American things but yes the prom idea is one I could live without
Well done you two, well done Dad, well done Kurt.
👌🏻👏🏻🤣
Sorry to hear that Ye Olde Dodge failed to perform. My 1952 Dodge pickup had carb issues regarding float sticking and would flood the engine at the most inopportune times. Nothing like blocking a 4 lane intersection and tapping on the float bowl with a handy rock! You got through the episode pretty well and in a perfect position, but investigation awaits. Kudos to Kurt the AA man for his help. By the way, looks like you have already learned to carry extra 6 volt batteries!
Ha yes always try and keep a stack of parts in the back, one advantage of having a pickup I suppose. Investigations have started so I hope to have more news soon.
Great video thanks for sharing 👍.
Thanks for watching!
Well done Kurt the AA man, above and beyond the call of duty without a doubt. I think as long as you know which engine you have Rick then finding the parts shouldn't be a problem. Such is life as they say. The star of the car show (as opposed to the AA) has to be the Bristol and in a great colour too. Such an elegant car. The Cresta PB was also a great car I don't think I have seen one of that model in a very long time. The 'Thing' is based on the Kublewagen (apologies if the spelling is wrong, I can never remember!) there were different Marks, 3 I think. One model in the USA had a propane heater for the colder days, the engine being air cooled of course. The Golf Country was very interesting and not something I have ever seen before or if I have I must have forgotten about it. All in all a nice turn out on a nice day even if the old Dodge went on strike! Thanks Rick and Harley for filming. BTW great to see your Dad back in the MG once again. 👍👍
Thanks, yes nice to see dad tearing up the tarmac in his MG again :)
VW Type 181(LHD) was known as the Trekker in the UK and Type 182, which indicated RHD. As an option it was available with a petrol burning, auxiliary heater. It was originally designed for the West German Army, and built on the wider floorpan of the Karmann-Ghia.............The Golf Country was manufactured by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Austria, and only 7795 cars were built.............
Hi 👋 Richard. Those Vauxhall Cresta's were plentiful here in NZ. I remember in the early 1960s the Traffic Deptmartment which were separate from the police then had Vauxhall Cresta cars. The police drove Ford Zephyr 6's. An uncle of mine had a large Vauxhall Cresta , it was like an American car to look at. I think it was a 1968 model. He bought it brand new, and it was in white with a red interior and was immaculate. Your poor old truck. The A A saved the day. So your dashing young assistant has a prom coming up. I'm sure he'll look very smart in a suit. A question , have you been to New Zealand Richard ?. Im sure if you haven't you would like it here if you visited. We have beautiful beaches ⛱️ in the summer and good ski 🎿 fields in the winter. I once lived in a suburb named Royal Oak in the city of Auckland here back in the 1980s. Well you had,a nice day for it. From Carl.
Nope not been to NZ, I've heard good things about it
@oldclassiccarUK I love my country abd its beauty. I live in the small city of Palmerston North . And we have these beautiful ranges surrounding the city. I was looking at them this morning , and the sun was shining down on them , it was a nice sight.
Great video you two I also liked the Vauxhall pb had one here in Australia, we say here with old cars you can fix it with some fencing wire and a hammer thanks for a entertaining video cheers
Thank you very nice with love Mary Rolls 💋💋💋💋💋💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💗💗💗💗💗
Thanks
Good evening both . Well that was an adventurous day and Kurt deserves a CDM . 😂 So has Harley passed his test ? He's a goodlooking young man , not a bit like his dad 😂😂😂 Those idiots that drive their cars so recklessly should be noted and banned ......easier said than done . We had a similar incident at aTeignmouth show last year and the organisers were given a stern, but for me, an unjustified warning . One of our patrons (we had a pub in Shaldon in the 1960's ) had a Bristol 403 ? and part exchanged it for a new, first year production , Lotus Elan +2 . As always ,thankyou Richard & Co
Driving with my old beetle 30 years ago into the mud I always had an old cardigan or sth similar with me to put under the traction wheel…
13:40 those Mustang started 1994 I believe
The starter must be nearly damaged?!
How come?.............
Nope, the starter is fine, the separate switch probably got a little warm but I've several spares of them if needs be
😅Did the AA guy ponder over where to plug in the puter? So few of them, these days, have even seen old stuff like this.
More have seen this stuff before than you imagine...............
He owns an old ERF lorry so was cut from the right cloth
Just remind me - 12v or 6v? I'm just curious about the booster pack he used
6v, the booster he used was showing about 7v at the time so close enough not to harm anything
@@oldclassiccarUK cool - I've yet to see a booster pack for general use that's adjustable. I guess the pro stuff the AA get is a lot fancier than your average TopDon 😂
36:40 this is an American version of 635 CSI catalytic converter, guess how much of the 218 horsepower are left maybe less than 180?
It looked like a UK market car although I forget whether it was LHD or not
You have got to drive at least 1 hour or 35 to 40 miles to get the battery reloaded after this torture
What about putting it on charge?................
I just re-charged it back at home, job done
Had my fare share with american cars breaking down from internationals to rambers ,, learning the lesson, i now own japanese subaru,s,,, just bought a 2jz toyota 300hp going into the triumph herald convertible.. repaired the a/c in the semi truck a month ago ,, it went bad today because its american
Welll it could happen to anything that is over 70 years old, just one of those things with running a vehicle that hasn't seen regular use in ages. Thanks for watching.
@@oldclassiccarUK the only car i felt good breaking down in was a 78 subaru ,, down a hill at 55mph i blew the driver side rear tire/ ha haa the fun and excitment after the sound of a shot gun and chest pressing on the seatbelt,, delighted and super happy to jack it up for the swap ,, yee ha, lets do it again ....
That is embarrassing..... quality Chrysler Corp not starting amongst a lot of '70s-'80s 'stuff'. Maybe fuel pump or oil bath air filter dirty? You would hear a chuff if manifold leaking & it would still go. At least you have the lovely & reliable Ford V8. Cheers.
I am sure this vehicle is fastidiously maintained, and checked before each journey.........
It shouldn't take long to fix, I've found a possible culprit already
If it had a vacuum leak in it the truck will not idle more likely to float in the carburetor stuck open Platinum fuel tank engine cylinders causing the truck to flood.
Looks like with all the fuel in the intake looks like the carburetor is getting plenty of fuel I'd say the float stuck in the carburetor and let too much fuel dumped into the intake the , plugs was probably wet when the guy pulled them out. your son's prom let him take the old standard it's a prettier car. I found an amazing over in the UK people bring four-door cars to car shows in America we don't have four-door cars coming in the car shows it's either coupe cars or sports cars and two-door pickup trucks not four-door trucks. Back in the late 70s early 80s I was in part of taking flathead V8 out of Late 40 and early 50s model cars in junk in the cars out specially The four doors nobody wanted .My Dad and me both work For Ford dealership when they take one in we buy for hardly anything take the fathead V8 out and sell it to people building motorcycles.
With a sticking float I would have expected it to flood everywhere too (see the Anglia vid I did a couple of years back), but the plugs weren't getting wet at all. It was only after a mountain of churning the engine over that it finally kicked in. Since getting back home I found a couple of problems which I'm attending too, so hopefully more news soon. Thanks for watching.
@@oldclassiccarUK I see you have lots more comments from "arm chair" mechanics, it's like teaching your grandmother how to suck eggs..............
Thank you for a great video , better than Vera 👏🏻🛻👍🏼
Thanks, who is Vera?
@@oldclassiccarUK Vera is a crime drama set in Newcastle and Vera is the detective, and drive’s an old Landrover 😂
@@geraldfunnell7932 And looks like a female version of "Compo" from Last of the Summer Wine...............
