  • Most people buy Mercedes Benz vehicles, whether it's a car or SUV, based on performance. However, if you're not careful you'll end up spending all your money on Mercedes reliability issues, problems, and you'll just have a higher cost of ownership. Today, I'm going to show you 10 of the worst or most unreliable Mercedes Benz cars (at least from what I've seen) so that you can spend your money the right way.

as a Mercedes mechanic I can say:
-he‘s heavily overexaggerating on the 30% of actual issues, which are even ones where a Customer has to pay 0$ for a fix, also doesn’t take more than an hour normally (where you do get a vehicle from the dealership)
    - he picked smaller issues (sometimes also issues due to wear) and exaggerates the outcome of those
-lied about some issues (doorhandles breaking off on newer vehicles for example)

I’ve had a 2011 s550 4matic for 5 solid years, currently sitting at 110k miles and I’ve had zero of the issues he bloviated about. Very subjective & anecdotal! Conventional wisdom/knowledge: Do your Carfax history before purchasing any used vehicle, get a warranty if possible & don’t be cheap on maintenance. I’ve had mine serviced, maintained on-time routinely at the dealership I bought it from. I’ve had to do 1 or 2 repairs in all 5 years I’ve had it, which were inescapable based on certain known milestones, nothing extraordinary. It still drives like a dream. An absolute beast of a machine! About to buy a 2020 s560 soon & I’m torn between keeping my 2011 alongside the 2020 in a couple months or trading it in to pay down/towards the new buy. Still looks and drives amazing as it did the 1st day I got it. Definitely still love it and Highly recommend it to anyone… but obviously again do your due diligence prior to buying and keeping up with on-time quality maintenance. Failure to do so, could very well bring these nightmare scenarios he highlighted into fruition for you.

The M272/273 takes the cake for nightmare engine reliability in addition to electric gremlins that had no known solutions. I nearly gave up on Mercedes until i finally came across my love, the M276. This engine is like no other. This was the only Mercedes engine that matched Infinitis VQ35DE and VQ37HR which i both love for reliability and performance. I have the 3.5 liter M276 and the 3.0 liter twin turbo M276. Both are glorious engines in their 7 speed and 9 speed transmissions. The M276 punches above its weight and pay grade. Depending on the conditions, i believe it produces more horsepower than advertised. I have driven both the C350 and C300 4matic that makes 302 hp and 249 hp respectively. My conclusion is that the c300 4matic in sports mode probably makes about 260hp and not the claimed 249 hp. The C350 probably makes about 315 hp and not the claimed 302hp. And the 3.0 twin turbo that makes a claimed 384 hp, on the top end, actually makes about 396hp.

I agree! I have a 2013 E350 4matic with the NA M276 and it is bulletproof and probably does produce more than 302HP especially in 'sport' mode. I did my research before I purchased this MB 3 years ago. Best car I've ever owned.

My experience with 2 MB's I used to own .
    '03 CLK500:
-A plastic tab broke on one of the rear windows and the window would not roll up. Was told had to replace the entire assembly for the window which ended up costing $1,200 but since it broke not long after I bought it, the dealer covered half the cost.
-Rear sun shade would not retract.
-Only had the car less than a year and a half, so not sure if anything else would had happened to it.
    '08 C350:
-Seat warmer on driver side stopped working. I had bought the extended warranty when I bought the car so it was covered and replaced.
-Entertainment control knob in the center console stopped working. Wasn't covered under warranty and cost a couple of hundred bucks to replace.
-Something broke in the transmission sometime after it went over 100K miles. Repair was over $3500 but was covered under warranty. Paid $100 deductible.
-Something broke in the steering column just after warranty expired and the car would not turn on. Was $1,200 to fix.
-Had an oil leak which turned out to needing to have a gasket replaced and an O2 sensor needed to be replace. Cost $1,600 to fix.
-Had the car for about 4 years.

When it comes to reliability and air shocks, I can't think of one manufacturer that has managed to make them reliable. If you want guaranteed problems with your suspension, order a vehicle with air suspension. The dealerships are smiling and scheming as you pull out of the lot, Well, there goes another happy customer that we are sure to see again in 50,000 miles. 13:06

    • @joshriver75
      @joshriver75 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's nonsense! Gas struts and shocks also have a 100% failure rate. Shocks and struts are expendable parts. Air struts maintain a consistent ride quality until the point of replacement. Where as gas struts degrade slowly and can just be ignored when they need replaced. Which is what air ride haters are actually looking for in most cases.
As for reliability..maintain the suspension properly it can last a long time.
My 2010 Lexus LS has 175k miles and the original air struts do not leak at all after 15 years.

My moms ml 350 went 295,000 miles. That car was built amazing. Oil leaks happened at 280,000. The headlight lenses turned yellow and that’s one of the only things that went wrong with the car. I’d definitely recommend the 2011 generation ml350! My 2018 e63s has 75k miles and drives great it’s the best car all around between performance and luxury for the money. I have over 180,000 miles on my 2007 ML63 on the original engine and trans and its used daily in the winter and mostly Sits in the summer(sl55 season). I must say it has served me well over the last 6 years and today Im really in love with it and think it just fits like a fine leather glove. When i was a kid cars like the ML AMG would wake me up as they passed and I slept in the backseat of my parents car. I always caught a glimpse of the AMG badge and wondered in awe as to who those drivers were and how they got away blasting down the fast lane in they're flashy/ burbly v8's. Today, two AMG's and a 911 into it, im that guy waking kids up as I blast Down the highway; and what a feeling it is!!

This summer I picked up a 2014 E350 Coupe Mars Red with just over 100k miles. I now have 124k miles on it and no problems. The V6 has been a solid work horse of an engine so far. Granted I also do oil changes between 3,000 to 5,000 miles. I never go over 5k without getting another oil change. And the fuel even though it's requirement is 91 I use 93 octane. I do believe I will be needing to get spark plugs done soon for this car and that's rather pricy but I knew that going into this. My only complaint is that I wished I had gotten a 4matic version of this instead of RWD due to winter conditions. So here soon I'll be getting some tires changed to all season (has summer performance right now) and adding some extra weight in the rear for the winter months.

For the 6.2L AMG V8 all you had to do is replace those headbolts and you'll be fine.
I have an uncle who has a 2009 Mercedes S63 that he brought brand new and he had the headbolts replaced and ever since he did that, his car never had problems other then some electrical failures here and there. His car got 135K miles on it. He doesn't have any complaints. If you don't want the lifters to fail all you have to do is replace your oil every 6k miles and maintain that engine properly. I honestly think the 6.2L AMG V8 is not the worst engine.
The hemi V8s from dodge and Chrysler have problems with their lifters as well but it's mostly because people abuse them and put them away wet.

It's at 37,000 miles, well-maintained, but there's this metallic knocking sound in the morning that lasts about 10 seconds. It's subtle, and the dealer insists it's normal. However, it raised some concerns, and I stumbled upon videos like yours and many others mentioning premature issues with the M274 2-liter turbo engines. People say it's mainly the 2016 and some 2017 models, but the 2018 has the same engine, except for the gearbox change. (I assume they also fixed the piston issue.) Your video suggests it's an across-the-board problem with all M274 engines. What do you suggest I do to find out if my engine is one of the faulty ones? I bought it at Mercedes Benz Orlando Miami. Thanks for your time.

You hear that metallic sound because your engine is a direct injection you should be fine they are bulletproof engines as long as you change your oil every 5000 miles

Got. a 2011 S550 Mercedes Benz with 130k miles from an owner who was falling on hard times. The car was in immaculate condition. Based on the car fax report. I took the vehicle to a Benz mechanic . Had the fluid service , plugs, injectors, brakes and replaced all the suspension bushings. I spent $5768 to do it all. I also bought warrantee for the engine, electrical, and transmission.
The car is sweet like bees honey and drives like a luxurious elephant. Benz were built to be taken care of… Take care of your stuff!!! Do the right thing and you’ll be ok. The previous owner is so proud I kept it up. He even drives it sometimes when I go look for him.

My work van is a 13 Sprinter...same as my coworker. My coworker and I both agree that on average our two vans are in the shop for 1 to 3 weeks PER YEAR. Our fleet manager and head mechanic told me he has never seen a bill less than $6 000 from Vicoria Star Motors. The biggest bill was an astounding $13 000 . Sprinters are garbage cans on wheels. Your research is wrong, the 2.0L engine on the C300 is not French (Renault) derived , it was only the small displacement engines 1.4 or 1.6L which never sold in north America and some of the small displacement diesel engines found in the C180 and C200 diesel. The gas M282 engine was a partnership with renault and found its way into the A , B CLA class, again not for the North American market.

I thought for sure I was gonna see my 2018 Mercedes c350e on this list at number one but it was not even an honorable mention. I've had problems since 3 months after getting it, after 3 months the starter motor died and it got replaced for free, then the hybrid battery died last year but the dealership wanted 10,600 just for the battery installation NOT included for the price so I decided just to use it in sport mode which is the only way to shut off engine start stop in my car but I also had to shut off the ac/heater since they are both run off the hybrid battery. Then the 12 volt battery died so I replaced it and it was expensive then all the sudden less then a month after replacing the 12 volt battery the auxiliary battery died and Mercedes wants 211 for that tiny battery if I do it myself ( I dont even know what they would charge me if they installed it for me ). A month after getting the car the back up camera cut out for the first time but I let it go since it only seems to happen like 3 times a month but 2 years ago the media screen decided to start going out which is what has the back up camera in it so that kinda sucked, I say kinda since the radio still worked and so did Bluetooth music so it was manageable I just had to go back to looking over my shoulder to back up from time to time. The thing that started to really piss me off and regret buying it was that it randomly shuts off sometimes and displays in red that gas ran out, electric mode only, reduced power.......the problem with this is that the hybrid battery is dead so when it use to say that it would just force me into electric only mode but since the hybrid battery has died now it just shuts my car off. On the bright side it is past 100k miles and I did not expect it to last this long since the check engine light has been on for 2 years so far, once its time for a smog check im gonna sell it or trade it in, it runs though so im gonna run it till its time for a smog check it it dies, whichever comes first.

If it is a quality control issue, that is first and foremost the responsibility of Mercedes Benz to address and not passed onto the unsuspecting customer, that is bad business ethics to say the least. I agree with practically this whole list. But the list is also pretty obvious with notoriously terrible cars. However the engine on the non amg w204 is one of the most solid performers ever made. There are multiple on the market of 200-300k miles with no issues at all. You ask any Mercedes foreman and they will tell you the same. When thinking of the Sprinter Vans, they are actually quite popular in Sweden, I would say alongside VW Crafter and Renault Master that I would say has the best rust protection.
There are no Japanese big vans in Sweden.
The resent passed years there are "some" Fiat Ducato/Citroen/Peogeot/and now also Opel. Same body, different drive train.
These days these vehicles have normally a 2.2-2.4 liter turbo diesel with about 150-180 hp, and they can tow 3 metric tons.

I saw a Benz that had a sensor to notify the driver that the glove box light was out..😳😯👀🤦🏾‍♂️ yes the glove box light. These cars are over engineered, drove great, but the over technology as you’ve noted, are not reliable. And maintenance is a money pit.

The GLC AMG 43 is fantastic. Used prices are good. Get the performance exhaust option for sure and does both quiet and loud really…REALLY well. The biturbo v6 is fantastic. We just bought a used 2021. Love it.

I'm currently enjoying my 2022 GLC! It only has 14k miles on it but it's holding up just fine. I definitely want a reliable car, but I also wanted something other than a boring Toyota or Honda, so to each it's own. We all work so hard so if you can afford a few more dollars on a car that you will enjoy....just get the car!!!!

OMG is there a difference between us Benz and german benz? I know of so many that have NO problems with their benz at all and they have over 400.000 km on them as is my e 220 2016. A lot of things on the cars in the US are not even known in germany (so to say) such a quality difference possible?
