    I prefer silk, hands down. Never had an issue with using a good quality shampoo diluted in water (a bathroom sink full), & then doing the same with a conditioner - with a final rinse. If you have hard water you can also used distilled water for the final rinse (such as I do for my hair). Air dry only.
    I've also thrown them in a delicates bag & washed them on delicate with a delicate laundry detergent. It doesn't come out as soft as my hand wash technique, but I also am not using a fabric softener (though delicate fab softener can also be found), & I'm not rinsing with distilled. But even though it's not as initially soft, it only seems to take about 1 or 2 nights of use to softened the fibers.

      No problem! I'm glad it was helpful! You can also hand wash some silk items in cold water too. I just always say dry clean with silk, because it is the safest way to clean it

    Satin and Silk were sent to us from the Gods, to whom I will be forever grateful! I collect Satin shirts and they are absolutely magnificent: I take 3 hours over the ironing, doing sections in a cautiously chosen order, with lots of cooling fans and other gadgets. The result is beautiful beyond belief, and my house has broken out in wardrobes.
    Thanks for all the information about Satin and Silk - about these wonderful fabrics, there can never be too much information.

      The secret to pressing satin shirts is not to press them.
      1. Get them SLIGHTLY damp (sorry for yelling).
      2. Hang them from the waistband with 3 hanger clips 1 on each side and one in the middle to hold the placquet closed.
      3. Blow with blow dryer from a safe distance. (a distance you can hold your hand over without pain. Stretch certain parts and blow dry them. If it's rayon satin, be careful.

    Thank you for making this clear
    Today i just washed my 100% soie/silk scarf without the knowledge of taking care of it. It kinda bleeds in the water and i panicked 😭
    I disregarded the tag that says dry clean only.
    Will never wash it again on my own

    • @mulliganstew72
      @mulliganstew72 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awww it’s ok. Just use some white vinegar in with the wash to preserve the color. Air dry flat to remove wrinkles. If you see any water marks (etching), you can use a steamer. I find many Dry cleaners don’t know how to handle silk.

    I wish I could love polyester satin, but as a man, there are few uses for it where breathability won't be an issue. It doesn't breath at all as a jacket liner in my experience. Cotton satin is weak, snags even more easily and doesn't clean easy.

      Yanibest, Fishers Finery, MJK, Celestial silk are a few good ones. Look for 22-25 momme (that’s the silk translation for thread count/weight). Anything under $25 is most likely fake. Definitely worth throwing down more money for the higher momme as they will wash better (in a mesh bag on delicates, hang dry).

    • @emmyg8575
      @emmyg8575  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's called satin silk, and is most commonly how they sell silk. If you are ordering something satin online they usually have the fiber content listed, so just check that to make sure it says silk and not polyester.

    How often would you recommend getting silk bedsheets dry cleaned ?

    • @emmyg8575
      @emmyg8575  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As far as bed sheets go, check the care instructions. If it says dry clean only, once a month is the longest I'd wait. Sometimes they can be washed in cold water delicately or by hand with no other items, depending on the type of silk they used. The silk in my scarf is more delicate than what they would use to make sheets.
      Otherwise you can hand wash them in cold water or on a delicate cycle. Do not wash them with anything else. If you want to put them in the dryer, use the lowest possible setting and pull them out before they are completely dry and let them air dry for the remaining time.

    Is satin the one where if you rub your thumb on it, it will snag if your skin is a little dry? Like sometimes on the fingertips the skin peels & you rub your thumb on fabric is makes a scratchy noise or get stuck? Do you know what I mean? I hate that feeling. Please let me know because I have to choose a mask with an outer layer of satin or polyester. The satin looks so shiny but if it snags I would hate it.

    • @emmyg8575
      @emmyg8575  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, if your skin is very dry it can snag satin since that is a looser weave structure

      @@emmyg8575 So since you say satin is a looser weave do you think polyester would be better for a face mask? Satin does look very pretty but I'd go with whatever keeps me safest.

    • @emmyg8575
      @emmyg8575  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Satin can be made from polyester since satin is a weave, and polyester is a fiber. I would assume the other mask would be a plain weave if it is not satin. If it is just an eye mask you should be fine. I have used a satin eye mask for years and never had an issue.
