  • I found a little issue that may or may not cause a problem with the build going forward. As the saying goes.. forewarned is forearmed.

Hi all, please note this is taken from part 5 of this series, so the little bit of wing work carried out in part 3 is before I spotted this.

It’s been difficult keeping up with you Nigel. You are producing a ton of great videos. What I don’t comprehend is why people complain when you are only pointing out issues to help other people with this kit. Big fan of your dedication to modeling Nigel.

As always great tips and tricks for making the the builds easier by pointing out things that can catch us out. Nicely done Nige!

The pedanticness, the fussiness, it’s all part of the fun, besides, it’s nice enough that you thought to warn us about this.

Hello Nigel. I've just subscribed to your channel to follow your progress on this model. Thanks for the heads-up on the wing spar, much appreciated.
It strikes me that you're not fussy, you're simply thorough and precise 😉
Can't wait to see episode #3.

I’ve just reached the stage of test fitting the main spar, and because of the issues you’ve pointed out I’ve checked and tested and found it fits like a glove, seemingly nicely cantered, hitting all of the required marks, with no gaps either end. I’m going to get the ribs test fitted altogether before making a final verdict on it. All your help is much appreciated and is only going to help me produce better results..

Brilliant!!! Maybe they saw my video, (I know Airfix watch them) and told the moulders to improve the shrinkage of that spar?

Hi Nigel, That looks like a really complicated assembly. What you are doing is going to help a lot of modeler4s that are planning to build this. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff

Well I’m really glad you pointed that out - I’ve got one of these on order. I do find with the newer Airfix kits - there isn’t much tolerance and not a lot of ‘positive location’ - you do need to be careful and think. Luckily Nige - you’re doing a lot of the thinking for us, so cheers - and waffle on mate!

I didn't notice a gap at the end of my spar but I did notice that the centre spars (with the hooks) were not symmetrical in their 'natural' position. The starboard one needed some persuasion to get it right. It's definitely a potential issue that's worth highlighting, especially since (as you say) you might not notice the full ramifications of it until everything else comes together.

I haven't watched your build purposely sir, as I think I mentioned in the video.. I do not want to be pre-loaded.. I'm not sure it's a major issue, but i thought I'd post this just in case?

The idea of having a floating wing, isn't a new one, it's not in the big typhoon's instructions, but your advised to do it, by people in the know.

    • @NigelsModellingBench

      "Floating Wing"??

@@NigelsModellingBench not gluing the spars/ wing ribs down until your happy with them, but using the wing for alignment purposes.

    • @NigelsModellingBench
      @NigelsModellingBench  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Ah, OK, I see what you mean. The issue here is not the sequence, more the lack of positive location. The Hellcat was the opposite.. very good positive locations but no tolerance made fitting the upper and lower halves a little tricky. Either way, both are brilliant kits.
