      display??? those are real blades by good man- just as sharp and durable as a traditional tamahagane katana, probably more so frankly. Im expecting 2 hours a day cutting practice from that little lady after school! (speaking as a martial arts instructor/national judo competitor).. train hard, fight easy.
      Ok maybe with dads supervision to be fair... atleast for the first year or 2.
      maintained properly, it will lose none of its beauty.

    My man back with my favorite thing ever, these are beautiful. I would really love to see you take one of these and engrave additional branches off the natural windy copper layer to solder in copper to make it look like a long tendril of lightning running down the blade. If I was anything more than a broke bloke I'd commission it.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m not sure how copper soldered in would withstand the heat treat. I’ll have to ponder that one. Thanks for watching.

    • @7sevin7
      @7sevin7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TyrellKnifeworks No, you're right, solder's melting point would be too low, perhaps inlaying the same copper from the forging, but that would be adding a ton of extra labor.
      While I have you, I was wondering why you didn't use copper for the pink Katana? If you got the copper to oxidize into copper(I) oxide (Cu2O), it would actually turn pink. :)

    • @TyrellKnifeworks

    id like to see some of the reasons why you opted for lower heats aside from the melting points, i think it would be helpful to know what copper for instance oxidizes alot at high heat and as a finicky issue bonding to steel because of this as well as the different thermal expansions that create alot of stress in the metal that de laminate them. just a suggestion not a criticism i love your work so beautiful.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You don’t want or need to melt the non-ferrous metals in order yo get them to bond. It’s actually a bad idea. You can get bubbles or squirt out that metal when pressing. About 50-150F below the melting the melting point is optimal. Thanks for watching

    The Daughter was a little younger than I had envisioned- I had a teen in my mind; however, I think that the pink being inside is the better because I believe it will age better as she grows and matures. And funny enough, I visualised it as being pink ray skin inside rather than the wrap on the outside.
    Stunning blades. I'd like to have seen more footage of the scabbard- it looks beautiful.

      They are very hard to photograph in their entirety. I just have a 2'x2' light box so I can't really get them in there. Plus I ran out of time to get better photos. The scabbards turned out extremely well I think. Many layers of lacquer over a speckled/hammered silver (or copper) paint. Thanks for watching!

    Never heard of dipping the stell in gasoline that is an interesting concept does it do something different to the metal or just help it heat faster either way beautiful blades

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s kerosene, not gasoline. Gasoline would not end well. 🤣. The kerosene burns off and aids in the forge welding of the steel. Thanks for watching.

    Awesome! This customer must have been very wealthy. I wish I could afford a sword like this! I'm really digging the copper one because of the contrast. Both look bad ass though! Great job. Hope you had a wonderful holiday, and have a Happy New Year!

    something i find really interesting is normally the curve comes from the quench but because its silver and copper i imagine you really cant get the temp normally used so you create a curve manually

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The curve in a katana is normally from claying the spine and doing a differential heat treat. That process will leave the spine soft and leave a hamon line, which is where the soft/hard steel produces a line. Because these katanas are damascus, If I had soft steel on the top, it would not etch correctly and look terrible. Instead the silver and copper act as shock absorbers. Thanks for watching.
