Exactly, the gold isn't in the cutting edge. Those guys really are looking for something negative to say! I love the fact that the owner of this knife will know his food has passed over a strip of gold! The alchemical properties of this knife are interesting, a beautiful knife! Very good work sir!
For those asking: 1) Yes I’m aware gold is a soft metal, that’s why it’s never on the cutting edge and the entire core is high carbon steel. 2) No you can’t just put a thin strip of gold instead of a whole layer, steel won’t forge weld at those temps or you’d melt the gold. 3) The offcuts are being saved for a future project, probably a folder and some fittings. Thanks for watching.
Yo dude you should build a small foundry set up to recover materials by using melt point to get them to separate out. You could probably recover the 10k gold and purify it back down to 24k yourself. And even experiment with purity levels from a smaller sample of pure gold. 10k is also under 50 percent purity. I'd say try with 14k or 18k if you try in the future with less pure gold. 14k is like 58 percent. 18k is 75 percent.
@@bmxriderforlife1234 I've tried this before with lower purities of gold. The problem is as the purity goes down, so does the melting point. Thanks for watching.
@Tyrell Knifeworks yeah I've done a bit of jewelry work as well as working materials for sword fittings and such. Depends on exact alloy. Most people don't realize but there's alot of different gold alloys available for various purity ratings. I forget the name but an example is a specific nickle free white gold alloy that has high levels of platinum palladium and I think silver. Higher melting point then normal. A few work pretty similar to copper.
