- The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is a modern classic of a game, but all good games must have an ending, and I believe Breath of the Wild actually has four of them. Nintendo has created a game with multiple endings in an attempt to reach as many players as possible, and in this video I will explain why each of these endings are significant and unique.

Same here I also thought you needed the iconic green tunic and I spent hours trying to find that before stepping foot in front of Ganon. I really wanted to look the part. I finally broke and decided to fight him thinking I'd get it after the fight. I learned later you get it for completing the shrines 😪
The poop is one of the best puns in games. In order to get said poop you have to literally play the sh*t out of the game

I like that the extra collections wasn't necessary. Imagine how much flak they'd catch if there was some awesome, amazing discovery at the end of collecting all 900 korok seeds. Like the ability to upgrade your weapons so they never break or something like that. A lot more people would feel like they HAD to slog through it to enjoy the game at the end.
exactly! acknowledging the effort with a trophey item (a useless but celebratory reminder of your achievement) certainly does praise the player for the work they put in, but as you mentioned, handing out a huge boon like that would totally make people feel like they were missing out. that's why achievements exist on many gaming platforms; to acknowledge you did a thing without making you feel like you HAVE to do said thing.
I agree but ffs at least don't give us literal shit, id be happy if hetsu gave us his Maracas as a useless weapon but weapon nonetheless, or just as a trophy, for the compendium maybe you get a secret memory thats just link and Zelda laughing and having a good time. Something nobody needs or feels like they would need to do to enjoy the game, but they would feel like it was worth it

@SSGDrake3489 I disagree.......after 100 or so seed with 0 reward I would just assume the biggest reward at the end would be something ridiculous but not powerful the korok puzzles are simply and abundant and if they mad only 451 available and required finding them ALL in a large open world would be twice as tedious because most of ur time would be spent searching for 1 last seed to buff you a bit more instead of 449 useless extras to fill out 100% it was a filler arc that needed enough availability to to get the play to feel rewarded for exploration but not reward obsessive compleationism .
EG: fethers in assasins creed literally guve u agro armor that makes the game harder....would have been hilarious if hestu had WIPED the map of all puzzles and peices so travel became less familiar or something but no just a golden gut gummy for the gilded gamers

I think the name "King of Calamity" is fitting as the player relies on Calamity Ganon's existence to complete worthless tasks. Instead of killing the giant evil thing that is murdering and oppressing all of Hyrule, the player purposely leaves him because his death would make his monsters and evil changes disappear and ruin his/her obsessive hunt for completion. It paints Link as this selfish monster who would leave all of Hyrule in danger for years just to complete his collections.
Ngl I thought this is what he was gonna say when he said king of calamity like someone who let's ganon thrive forever until they're done

Hetsu's golden turds actually have some significance! I was in Japan once and in many gift shops you can find golden poops in the form of keychains or phone charms and whatnot. I asked what they meant, and apparently the phrases for "Good luck" and "Gold poop" are so similar they're used as puns to wish friends good luck on an exam or something. So, Hetsu is wishing the completionist good luck! But that pun is completely lost on the rest of the world so it's more a funny "screw you" than anything lmao

I spent 3 years preparing for the fight with ganon because I thaught he was gonna be mega tough, but when I actually got to the fight, I defeated him in a matter of seconds. I didn’t even eat any food despite having a full inventory of full recovery+ meals

Yeah I spent a good year playing; about 180 hours getting every seed (I came across), doing most every side quest (weapon connesiur and Royal Stallion can kma), and all the shrines just for it to be a piñata fight.
Was cool but I definitely expecting a bigger dungeon, more bosses, or like 1-3 more phases to the fight. Stasis+, armor, and some food was all you need ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Too be fair I’m an over preparer as once I roll credits I know I’ll have 0 motivation to pick up the game again

Ending 5: Time traveler: Find the master sword and find all 12 memories *after* you beat ganon
I really hate the how when you do defeat calamity ganon, you have to play in a save file before the fight even started! I think it would open up much more possibilities if Nintendo made it so you could venture in a post-calamity world.
Yeah but it'd turn into an entirely different game, as his monsters would either all have to disappear or they would have to not respawn when killed, thereby leaving no conflict. It would be a peaceful game that could very well be quite enjoyable for a lot of players, but it would be an entirely different game. Calamity Ganon is what adds conflict.

They could have and added some minor post-game side quests but I’m actually glad that I wasn’t able to go back in and play because it kind of forced me not to obsess over getting every little thing in the game.

I was sitting in a forest the whole time
I used to want to get the last ending you mentioned. I used to climb every single mountain, explore every single corner, get every single chest and Korok seed, the first 80 hours it was fun, the following 120 it had become an obsession. At that moment I got tired of playing Breath of the Wild and stopped playing. It was until recently, two years after dropping it, that I decided to continue playing, but without trying to get everything this time. Although I did get all the memories and shrines, it felt much better to play like that and I had so much fun. It's a shame that because of my completionist habit I ruined myself such an amazing experience, but that taught me a lesson and that is that I discovered that I enjoy games better without being obsessed with completionism.
I was like you, except it took longer for me to realise it ain't worth it. It's just not fun. My last play session, I just rushed to get the last couple memories and 10 or so Shrines done with, then defeated Ganon. I took multiple breaks since I started in 2017.
I personally have been through all of them (though I’m in the process of becoming a king of calamity.) When I started playing I didn’t like the thought of having to do all the divine beasts so I geared up, watched some tutorials and killed ganon. After that I left the game for some time and once one of my friends started playing it I picked it up again. After seeing him have a different ending I asked him how, he told me, and I did it, collecting all the memories and finishing the divine beasts and killing ganon for the second time. I was hooked to the game after that, I explored, did quests and after many many hours finished all shrines. I thought the game was over and my adventure had come to a sad stop but then I wanted to get al quests done, and I did. Then I wanted to get all armor to the max, and after hours of resource gathering I did. I was hooked again and I’m still collecting korok seeds and honestly the amount of things left for me to do can be counted on one hand. I’m still working for that golden poop though. I love this game and I have 400 hours on it and one of my favorite feelings is when you see another person, new to the game explore and adventure. It’s also fun to brag to them but no need for that. Anyways I love this game sosososo much and can’t wait for the sequel.

The game has always been about the journey and not the destination. Most times I don’t even fast travel. I love riding my horse through Hyrule and seeing the scenery. I’ve told myself once that I just love the journey. I love the hard work. No matter the prize. It takes awhile but I love it that way. I get to fully experience the game. This game has lived higher than my expectations could have ever imagined. I love it so much
i've been a perfectionist since i was a child. i HAD to complete games 100% before beating the final bosses.
this night, after 250 hours of me finding all 900 koroks, completing all side quests and shrines, finding all memories and collecting every single gear, i did it: i've beaten calamity ganon.
it took me a year and a half, but i'm satisfied with myself. the compendium and dlcs are also completed, i just need to fight all the mobs for kilton and i'm officially done. it was such a nice journey even though i'm definitely not gonna do it again in master mode

Look, I'll admit that I'm usually a completionist when it comes to Zelda games (I do every side quest, talk to every character, explore everywhere possible, collect every item, etc), but in the case of BOTW I *REFUSE* to collect 900 Korok seeds. Some of those Koroks are in some strange ass places and you only need 451 to complete your inventory upgrades. I don't know if I'll do Kilton's mini-quests but I've completed the compendium and that was more so I'd have an easier time finding things in the wild than it was to satisfy the completionist in me.

This is how I think of it:
Someone finishes the story but enjoyed the game so much they don’t want it to end just yet.
This is where the extra quests come in
Small quests here and there as people continue exploring this vast world Nintendo created.
They’re not meant to be done in one go although they can be
The rewards you get aren’t really rewards which makes sense since the side quests, korok seeds, compendium, etc. are optional and are supposed to be fun little things to do while exploring
Even though the story has ended doesn’t mean the adventure has to. I agree that 900 korok seeds is a lot but doing a little at a time will slowly accumulate until the goal is met. And doing a side quest, helping someone out is always satisfactory (at least for me).
So personally I would rather call the last ending Explorer of Hyrule
This is my opinion so I understand if some would disagree
I would call myself a King of Calamity, knowing that I’ve completed all the main quests, side quests, shrine quests, and memories, all 120 shrines, all the dlc, and mastered killing lynels for fun, but no. I have only found a whopping 160 koroks seeds. And that’s because I see the korok seeds as a little more pointless. Not to say that the developers didn’t put a ton of time into creating each puzzle, but I don’t want to spend hours of my time finding 740 more of those things. However, the next challenge I am going to face will be master mode. Then I can call myself the 5th ending (like how Link is the 5th champion), the Master of Hyrule.

the reward for 100% (or "dedicated completionist") isnt the in-game reward, but the satisfaction that you feel when you're done "OK. Now, I KILLED the game."

I think the reason the reward for completionist was so low is because they didn’t want people who didn’t have the time or effort to do that to feel left out, but put a sentimental thank you to the dedicated out there

Because if you haul ass to the ER and the ambulance crashes into a tree or another car, your journey probably ends.

But, uh...the destination is still the main issue. If I end up at the cinema, and I’m dying in an ambulance, I’m dead. When they say “it’s all about the journey, not the destination,” means that the end destination does not matter, it doesn’t even really matter if you get there. You can’t really call it a journey when you’re dying on a gurney.
Also, if the ambulance crashes into a tree, the guy driving is probably dying with me, so yeah, I’d rather hurry up the drive. The end destination of the hospital is much more important than the journey you have getting there. In this case, getting there is the most important thing, not _how_ you got there.

The even truer champion, fighting a lynel at the begining of the game before you have armor, I did it naked... with sticks.. craziest accomplishment Ive ever done, I hadnt even played before then and i hadnt done anything harder after but I vowed id do it when a friend dared me and boy did i surprise them. I 100 percented everything but the koroks even the dlc and hardmode and ive never had anything that hard since. I have tried it with the gold lynels in hardmode but its ACTUALLY impossible since they heal faster than you can hurt them unless you have good gear
Thing is though, going back to the “it’s not about the destination” thing, what real use would you have for a really good reward after you’ve completed everything?

I was close, just a couple memories short of it in my first playthrough. Then I learned about the "True Ending" and set of to achieve it.
Just 1. 1 memory was absolutely unreachable for me. The one in a forest, with no clear landmarks. Memory 16, I think. It was the only, single time I've given up and checked GameFAQs in my 100+ hours journey.
I still have no idea how could someone genuinely find that one.

I waited 4 years to watch this video bc despite this being one of my favorite games in 2019, getting me interested in the rest of zelda and making me play through the entirety of multiple of them, I kept putting off the ending! @@lolkrieger3977 not necessarily hard, but still, you need to think about it, and since bosses are part of it, if you forget, then you're screwed. Plus the fact that you need to collect every type of element from every insect to every mushroom, and every sword, bow and shield, every npc. So yeah, not that easy actually.

He referred to them as stopping points, and remarked that the second one is referred as the true ending

Hehehe. Try killing calamity ganon on master mode with only 2 bows. Once they run out you're screwed because the "healing over time" thing is a killer once you get to ganon

I'm not gonna do all of it, like the seeds and compendium, but I want to finish all the quests, upgrade the wild armor fully, and get Epona. Then I can go into the fight like true link, instead of wearing mismatched cloths and binging raw meat to get through.

Theres another ending: The True Hero of the Wild. Its one that skips over calamity king, and comes from the Hero of the Wild. Its for those who play the game not to complete everything, but to see the world, learn the people, and to truly be a hero. Trying to help everyone, while also creating a story for themselves. This ending is achieved only by those with imagination, and for those with a true love of the game. Thats how i see it at least, and im happy with myself for being one.
That's what I wanna do. There's so many things to do and people and stories. Seeking to explore it all and finding more than you thought is truly an engrossing adventure.

My ending is the "true" one, or in your words, the champion's. As I'm not a fan of collectables I looked up what the reward for the seeds is and had a good laugh.
To say you're becoming the king of evil for collecting all is a bit of a stretch, but the message of the rewards is clear: dude, you had fun while it lasted but move on!
It fits into Nintendo's philosophy so well because they want you to have fun first and foremost. Labo sets, break warnings, no in-game purchases..and then you let yourself fixated on the game only to get all the stuff with repetitive chores?
