    Love all your video's. Never see much on 7024 or as some called it "drag rod." Used it a lot when welding during my apprenticeship many moons ago. Also used it with my, now gone, Lincoln tombstone box. At 73 I still enjoy welding projects and doing repairs, mostly as a hobby. MIG, TIG, STICK, Plasma cutting and full set of torches. TIG is now my favorite and recently welded a SS pipe to SS Harley Rotors for a flag pole.

    I think this is great! Im a 62 year old retired certified welder, and it just galls me that the welding industry in general has been on a totally misleading PR campaign trying to lead young people into the welding field by featuring metal artists and motorcycle builders in their ads and articles! Now I’ve ALWAYS been a Lincoln man, but even ARC magazine that they produce was full of this kind of stuff, and totally overlooked the type of job that the vast majority of welders do! For every metal artist out there, there are hundreds if not thousands of guys welding structural steel, cross country pipelines, general fab and repair, etc, and making these young people believe that they’re going to be making a great living in an air conditioned “studio” making art is an outrage! Setting them up for a short stint in the industry is what they’re actually doing! When reality finds them laying in the mud welding on a broken earthmover or welding structural steel on a 95 degree day with no shade in sight, when they were lured in believing that art or motorcycle fenders in a climate controlled shop would be their destiny, most of them quickly move on to fast food management or something similar! Thanks for attempting to restore reality to an industry that can only be described as false front!

      To be fair though, is there really any industry not guilty of a similar practice? Yes, it highly unlikely that a 19yr old is going to come out of school and be the lead fabricator for a big budget race team. Nothing says that same 19yr can’t save up over a few years, get the space and equipment to build and sell those things himself. It’s even easier in todays world to market yourself on Instagram, Facebook, etc.

      To be fair though, don’t pretend like companies actually care about their people. They’re simply trying to bait folks in because they’re perpetually short on workers, and people will fall for it. You described yourself how it’s not necessarily a glamorous job, and if we want people to bow down and be slave to the capitalist overlords, then some light brainwashing is the cheapest and easiest way to accomplish that

      Nothing new, I am afraid the due diligence needed to become a successful welder fabricator is not shared by most welding schools and most definitely most students are unaware of the mistreatment by industry using too many weldors as cannon fodder. The management is only looking for fast and cheap. I am a long retired woman millwright / welder / fabricator. So is my husband. He would never recommend repeating his career path though he even taught a College level TIG class. His average student had no interest in anything but the shananigans as seen on TV on " Monster Garage " and the likes of other programs. I was trying to find a welder for a company and couldn't find any. The company owner said " any GIBBON CAN WELD ". THAT IS PART OF THE PROBLEM. Don't have easy answers but I still love the work. My impression is that in Europe things are better. The employers MUST SUPPLY PAPA SUPPLIED AIR WELDING HELMETS to protect employees. Better pay and benefits too. Sorry for the rant but I love welding and the products it can provide. Stay safe all.

      Man I totally agree just graduated from the Houston campus of Tulsa welding school as a certified welder and nceer certified fitters. Everyday I see recruiters selling these false promises too way too many Men and women my age only after you graduate do you realize that you don't need those certifications to get a job it's really just the experience itself. I couldn't agree with you more on this topic

    • @markmcgoveran6811
      @markmcgoveran6811 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I know what that's like man I've had a lot of friends a certified welders and I'm just a stove builder I don't want to weld that much it's too hard on your health. But on the big picture and I'd want to tell you that everybody is going to machinist the welders every talented person there's a few people left that said all the machines up there pretty sharp but the rest of us are just kind of getting dumb down and paid less we don't care if you're a certified welder just push this button when you think it's gone off track with the robot arm. It's not just the kids in the industry it's pretty much robotics has taken away all the jobs like welding and machine shop. Instead of a certified welder you'll be a machine operator.

    Thank you sir for sharing this with us all and I've been wanting to get into welding for awhile now and have so many questions I don't know where to begin asking nor do I want to overload this comment I guess the most basic question I could ask is what in your/everyone who knows opinion is a good rig to start learning on as far as Mig goes?. I really want to learn not just for a hobby but eventually when I have enough money go to school to learn to gain a career in welding. It took me too long to figure out what I really/honestly wanted to do but this is it for sure so I thank you again for the information and tips on everything you've covered. Have a great rest of the weekend and I hope that all is well with you and yours good sir. 🙏🍻

    I wonder why 6010 wont run on your Lincoln inverter welder?
    I scored a bunch of Lincoln 6010 stupid cheap but now I am worried it wont work with my welder.
    My welder is an off brand multi process about the same amps as your Lincoln.
    I thought I would be OK because 6010 says it is for DC.
    I guess I will have to try it and see.

    Great job. Serious question about stick welding. I have stick welder with Tig lift setting. Other day i accidentally stick welded with machine on Tig lift setting. I did notice way different sound and smoother arc,not as violent as when using arc setting. Will this hurt my machine,any pros or cons to doing stick welding while using Tig lift setting.

      It's called a passivation solution. It's a type of acid. The stuff Jody uses woks almost instantly, but oven cleaner will work as well.
      It just takes longer to reveal the weld nugget.

    You are the perfect person for a question of mine. I was recently on a job, I'm a structural welder, and I was welding a TON of angle saddles, the saddles being galvanized, to galvanized imbeds. Called for 5/16 weld all the way around, flat, vertical, and overhead. The first couple of days I was running a single pass with a 3/32 7010 and capping with a 1/8 7018, then I realized the code just called for 70XX. I started capping with 7010 and i had a few other welders question me. My question is: Is 7010 ran downhill up to structural code, and also is running 7010 uphill acceptable? (I seem to have similar penetration and the weld profile is pretty slick either way)
