Crazy how in 2020 a key talking point against Bernie was that he was "too old" to be president. And yet look how that ended up with Biden. Just goes to show that the actual cognitive sharpness is way more important than the age. Bernie is older than Biden and Trump yet has a way less declined mind. I don't remember that as much in 2020, maybe it was said more in 2016. But the real reason he lost in 2020 was because people were convinced that not enough people would vote for him, due to his " radical " beliefs. So they went with the safe option in Biden, since they were so scared of Trump. That's a logical fallacy of course. It's like the bystander effect, where you're worried about what the other person is going to do, so you change what you are going to do.

    • @gravitygal47

@@darkphoenix2 People were voting for Bernie in the early primaries earning him the lead, and then the DNC got scared that he would win so they got all of the establishment candidates other than Biden to drop out in exchange for positions in his cabinet, and launched a media campaign against Bernie labeling him as a communist nutjob. And democratic voters bought it.
Bernie had a lot of support amongst conservatives who were hungry for change as well, and it was pretty clear at the time that if he'd had the opportunity to go head to head with Trump, he would have won by a significant margin.

Ideas are great but theres a difference between an idea and implementing an idea. Regardless of how good an idea is there is the eternal struggle between your intentions and reality.
There was a guy who had a really good idea to help everyone and ensure their survival. His name was Thanos and his idea was to eliminate half of all life so the other half could flourish. Rigged.. data source relay chains have to be compromised right? Someone owns and makes the voting machines or the boards/chips in the machines, people counting are strong armed too easily. Or even more brilliantly, they just get enough people talking a certain/different rhetoric ( until there is an impass) & the 2 parties will always be at ends with each other
The only reason Bernie 'lost' the DNC was because he was too popular not to make it seem close. Bernie had to be seen publicly as a threat, "possibly even beating trump over hillary"... Idk but I bet Bernie didn't want to get mlk'd
"If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it" - Mark Twain
I don't know how many the oligarchy could raise even in the military industrial complex, but I bet it's faaar less than 300 sum million people with families and neighbors that they care for. People united are far stronger than spread sheets and economic data points (stock market scharade) for corporations and a few families. The ultimately 'wealthy' are holding this thing together with shoe strings and lace... And they know it.
Government should be as is a window pane, completely transparent... especially to Public Scrutiny. And the public eye is acquiring the "conception of self"; similar to a test which questions if an animal recognizes itself in a mirror or not. Left or right, it doesn't matter if the fight is rigged. Get money out of politics and let's see a real fight. let the best person win. Like we need to be fighting for humans living 1000 years from now... That could be 10 generations with tech and medical advances. Blue zone people live long and happy lives, and there is no reason we can't let everyone do it. Really we don't just need cars *cough* *cough* ... Tesla's...we need Netherland style growing facilities and stop farming like neanderthals... (Well aware cavemen prolly didn't grow much of anything), but if you look at the waste of water in America's agriculture system compared to the Netherlands it resembles the difference between horse vs combustion engine.
Just common sense stuff...people over profits. (Still think it's funny prophets and profits are the same sounding...kinda like subconsciously it doesnt feel good to be talking bad about prophets.. you know, who carry the word of God.. undeniably. unless thee be a heathen and going to hell...or at least twisted by the devil's tongue) 🤦
Just clarifying. Prophets are usually prolly pretty dope and awesome and super nice in a lot or most of ways. I just think it's blasphemous we use the same annunciation for profit, which couldn't have an uglier implication considering the past 300 years or so for everyday people. I mean literally every industry from oil to railroads to nearly the farthest reaches of the imagination... The American dream only exists if everyone can get a piece of the pie

Good ol’ consistent Bernie reprised one of the greatest hits of the pro-Castro Left last week on 60 Minutes. When Anderson Cooper pressed the senator by noting that Castro imprisoned a lot of dissidents, Sanders said he condemned such things. But even that grudging acknowledgment rankled the old socialist, who then rushed to add, “When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Neoliberal politicians decided to destroy unions. Now, most workers’ low wages are a result of a lack of bargaining power rather than a lack of productivity. This is why raising the minimum wage would cause a small increase in unemployment rather than a large increase right now. In a perfect world, you would just have all workers in unions and in most cases the union would negotiate for more than minimum wage laws can realistically give.

Bernie Sanders was a very effective Mayor of Burlington, Vermont in the 1980s. He won his first mayoral election by 10 votes. In his subsequent elections, he won by wide margins. He served four two-year terms as mayor. Bernie replaced the former city management with bright, masters-level innovators who took the city to new heights. He didn't shy away from sitting down with Burlington's Republican business owners, to get their input as well. He often went door-to-door, asking city residents for their ideas, and not just at election time. When Bernie walks through airports, he still gets a rounds of applause. I personally witnessed this at Chicago O'Hare airport on Oct 14, 2024.

There are a lot of comments from people who don't agree with his politics yet respect him. That being said, anti-socialist propaganda has had a big effect on people in America and elsewhere. A lot of people care more about buzzwords and labels than they do about what someone actually stands for and says. Sanders seems to, consciously or unconsciously, use the word "progressive" rather than "socialist", which is unfortunate but understandable.

Additionally, I think it helps greatly if you stay true to your core values, and feel like you matter. I think it's plausible that Bernie has an overall better balance on those metrics than Biden and Trump. But who knows.

And what Sanders did this time by NOT running against the DNC aristocrats for fear of handing Trump another go round speaks volumes of his integrity, and his unwavering belief that his ideas matter far more than himself, let alone any ambitions he may have!

Good morning Mr. Fridman and Mr. Sanders. I am a french Canadian from the province of Quebec. I listened to this podcast with great interest. What Mr. Sanders describes is exactly the system we have in Quebec. It is very expensive but it is a system that is human. I am someone from the center right but in the United States I would be considered a radical left. Quebec is far from being radical but we also have our problems of course. Nothing is perfect in this world but we must try to get closer to it. Thank you for your excellent podcast. Mr. Sanders you are a great man. Another thing, who is the craziest… the one who presents himself as a candidate or the one who votes for him ? Maybe the one who vote for him. Good luck American people.i am very lucky to live in Quebec.

There was a ruling in 2017 that “the DNC held a palpable bias towards the Clinton campaign” and against the Bernie campaign, they also ruled that it was entirely legal to do so. It must drive him mad when people purport to support him and then don't listen to him when he speaks! @@ZoobTheElement Theres an argument to be made that public healthcare could actually better the US economy. Many people here in the US are stuck in certain jobs or careers because they need it for healthcare coverage. Having a public healthcare system would incentivize people to pursue their true aspirations which could potentially create a better economy. You also have to factor in that small to medium sized businesses are hurt financially by having to supply medical benefits to their full-time workers. Having a public healthcare system could ease financial burden on those businesses which would likely allow them to expand and help the economy even more.

Europeans are so dependent on the "daddy state" that have the economic literacy of first graders. Hence they interpret their current state of affairs as "a working system" until it fails miserably and with a crash (see end stage Social democracy in Greece and elsewhere). I read that the NHS system is basically bankrupt and so is the pension coffers of many public funds in the UK. The wall is coming!
