Chet Baker - I Wish You Love

- Baby Breeze (1965)
Chet Baker, flugelhorn
Bob James, piano
Michael Fleming, bass
Charlie Rice, drums
"I Wish You Love" begins with the pretty verse, played out of tempo by Baker and James only. The drums and bass join in for the chorus, which is taken at a faster pace than usual for this tune. There is a fine piano solo by James, and the high point is Baker´s use of long notes in the release -- a refreshing change from the conventional flurries.
Although Chet Baker's recordings from late in his life varied dramatically in quality, this series of studio sessions is a high point in his career. After having his trumpet stolen, he plays beautifully with a borrowed flügelhorn throughout most of these songs with a powerful tone, especially on "Baby Breeze" and Hal Galper's intense "This Is the Thing." Baker delivers some strong vocals on the session led by pianist Bobby Scott, though Scott's huge hit "A Taste of Honey" is marred somewhat by his odd honky tonk piano in the background. This is an unusual compilation worth acquiring. [allmusic.com]
Such a tortured soul, such a damned sad life. But my God, such beautiful music he played. Incredible feeling in his playing, God rest his soul. Rest in peace, Chet Baker.
💚🤟
Chet was a genius musician /singer. He has left us a legacy of beauty. A sensitive artist, unfortunately, his own worst enemy, sabotaging himself with drugs and no self-control. Gerry Mulligan said Baker would surf and ski himself to exhaustion and then show up at a session unable to play. However, still one my favorite singers.
Great ideas like Chet Baker's always trump high fast flashy playing!
The best version of this french song!
How can someone be such a perfect musician that every of his songs are amazing and there is perfection in every seconds of it
+Spekhtra theWolf My thought: perfect musician, imperfect man.
+elizabeth b His imperfections made him perfect.
I think you are correct, eight6seven....., he was far from perfect as a person and he knew it, he once said, "I am what I am" -- no apologies required by us, but he DID put perfection into his music. It was his soul and it shows through his interpretation in his songs.
Is it wrong of me to not enjoy this music that much. I mean it's nice but I wouldn't turn to this first
@@timmyd5055 don't worry about it
Precious friends hid in death's dateless night.... I love you, Chet. Not that I ever knew you in life. But your music touches my soul. And makes me happy and sad all at once.
Nicely stated, Lucy, we agree! (Except I knew him.)
Special song...I wish you love to all music lovers!!!
Gracias!
It's such a contrast to see his young and old pics...
A clear warning to avoid heroin, cocaine et al.
@@vitorgeraldes7054 and dont get your teeth out
@@fredh2486 he lost a lot of teeth from bar fights. The reason why he started singing is actually because he got into a fist fight and his mouth swelled up before a show.. So, he couldnt play his trumpet..
Instead of cancelling, he sang. People boo'd him.
But, he never stopped after that.
There is a joy in Chets playing
Bravo, Charles Trenet! Bravo Baker!
Such a beautiful unique flugelhorn sound.... amazing! I wish everybody to enjoy same way I do!
Goodbye, No use leading with our chins,
This is where our story ends,
Never lovers, ever friends.
Goodbye, Let our hearts call it a day,
But before you walk away,
I sincerely want to say:
I wish you bluebirds in the Spring,
To give your heart a song to sing;
And then a kiss, but more than this I wish you love.
And in July, a lemonade,
To cool you in some leafy glade;
I wish you health and more than wealth, I wish you love.
My breaking heart and I agree
That you and I could never be,
So with my best, my very best, I set you free.
I wish you shelter from the storm,
A cozy fire to keep you warm;
But most of all, when snowflakes fall,
I wish you love.
I wish you bluebirds in the Spring,
To give your heart a song to sing;
And then a kiss, but more than this I wish you love.
And in July, a lemonade,
To cool you in some leafy glade;
I wish you health and more than wealth, I wish you love.
My breaking heart and I agree
That you and I could never be,
So with my best, my very best, I set you free.
I wish you shelter from the storm,
A cozy fire to keep you warm;
But most of all, when snowflakes fall,
I wish you love.
Thank you
I'll drink to that friend

What a great artist.
Never lovers, ever friends...😔
This is where our story ends/ Never lovers ever friends. To give your heart a song to sing… Palabras crueles para quien esperaba otra respuesta. I wish you love/ Anf if you like a limonade/ to cool you in/ Some lazy glade… Y entonces, I wish you love nos revienta a la cara.
I like different kinds of music, but then again, from time to time - going back to very roots of my music interests - going back to Chety.

"Que reste-t-il de nos amours ?" (French pronunciation: [kə ʁɛstə t‿il də noz‿amuʁ], What Remains of Our Love?) is a French popular song, with music by Léo Chauliac & Charles Trenet and lyrics by Charles Trenet

That's not a flugelhorn
Sad what this cat did to himself. He looks terrible in that picture. All that talent and no self control. I played jazz and had no need of drugs to inspire me. I'll never understand the connection of Jazz and drugs.
Jazz, rock, art..some have that need some of us get high just on the sounds. We are the lucky ones.
+Allan Birmantas Were you as good at what you did as Chet was at what he did? Just wondering why I never heard your music.
+Allan Birmantas...it seems to be in the DNA of all great and sensitive artists. His music sounds as if his life had been full of pain before he hit the drug scene. However, his great talent and sorrowful soul came through to his music.
Yes great artists are often sensitive beings and most of them carry traumas from their past. They turn stressed with a lot anxiety. But it is this same suffering which make them play in the sky ...
BELEZA É ISSO!
