Nyan Cat piano arrangement sight-read by Tom Brier

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 14 มี.ค. 2012
- It takes him a few minutes to wrap his head around this one. You can see the arrangement he's reading here: www.keeper1st.com/music/nyanca... . It was arranged by our friend Vincent Johnson, whose TH-cam page is / noveltypiano
Of course, technically the name of the tune is "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!" composed by someone in Japan who is known as "daniwell". His web page is aidn.jp and his TH-cam page is / daniwellaidn He has an album out now which features a few different arrangements of this song as well as several other songs. Here is a video daniwell shot of himself playing it: • ^・ω・^)ノ Nyan Cat Piano
The Pop Tart Cat was a separate entity by cartoonist Christopher Torres a.k.a. "PRguitarman" whose TH-cam page is / prguitarman1 . The two were merged together (using a remixed version of the song) by TH-camr "saraj00n" to create the bizarre sensation that is known as Nyan Cat: • Video
This sight-read was at the end of the March 2012 meeting of the Mother Lode Ragtime Society at the Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium, 51 Main Street, Sutter Creek, California. www.suttercreekragtime.com

It’s basically on loop so there’s probably a repeat somewhere near the area where he just starts riffing
It's a core part of the piano to know where the keys are without looking at the piano(it's not advanced but definitely not begginer level), you only look at the piano when you've memorized the piece or parts of it.
@@infochan6776 did i say anything about looking at the keys of the piano? i was talking about the fact that he's taking one page of music and turning it into a masterpiece
@@bltelysian I see now, I was confused at your wording because you said "He's quite clearly looking at one page the entire time", I thought you meant he wasn't looking at the piano which made it impressive, missed the "looking at ONE page" part. My bad.
@@bltelysian it's cool, but it's no masterpiece. It's a very common jazz pattern played in a stride style. Improvising over this, for an accomplished musician au fait with this style, is not that difficult. It's a harmonic pattern that's been played for over a hundred years.
I just can't wrap my head around how incredible his talent is. Three or four minutes of "ouch, he's making some mistakes" right to six uninterrupted minutes of riffing on the same short tune in constantly unique ways. Breathtaking. I hope Tom is doing well, and thank you Keeper for sharing him.

All those mistakes in the beginning might seem to point against his skill, but remember, he's never heard the tune to know what his mistakes are. That being said, he still recognizes them fine, which means that he can "hear" the song just by reading the paper, and knows when what he playing doesn't match up. His mistakes make his musicality even more impressive

@@Conundroy Well yes, there's no question that ragtime derived from African-Americans messing with European quadrilles and schottisches, which certainly would have been played in the "Old West" along with popular operatic numbers. But ragtime is certainly distinct and not at all "western".
Nobody talking about how he replies on a 7 great old video
@@ethanisnothere1375 Why not? New comments are as valid as any other.
Can we talk about how actually rare that is. Like just a few people can sight-read like that. Sight-reading is one of the hardest things u can learn as a musician
He is Ling Ling, he practiced 40 hours a day.
Sight reading is easy, if you are disciplined enough

This is magic. The mere act of capturing and writing down music, and having someone else be able to read it and recreate it without ever having heard it is wild enough. This is like someone handing you a copy of romeo and juliet and expecting you to act it through flawlessly as you read it.
This guy was amazing, in just a few minutes he sightread nyan fucking cat, played it perfectly and made it sound like it belonged in the backround of a saloon. Sadly Tom Brier suffered an accident and can no longer speak or play.
Not a saloon, but perhaps a speakeasy, given the stylistic time period.
Omg im so freaking sorry :( his skill is still on youtibe at least, i know thats no consolation but its beautiful
Oh my gosh I hope he’s healthy and okay my man deserves something
Damn poor guy hopes and prayers
Nooo!!!
Is it inreverseble?
Maaan...I love this so much, I need it as a ringtone!
He is a new legend for me now!
i hope this king is alive and well and knows how many people envy him and have envied him for the past 8 years
He is alive -- though not well -- but does know how popular he became through these videos, embarrassed as he is by his fame.
@@Keeper1st What a humble guy. ♥️ Mr. Tom Brier is an incredible human being. I am so glad that I came across this channel.
@@Keeper1st praying for him, he deserves all the good in the world 🙏
Keeper1st he’s not well? Is he alright?
@@Keeper1st Whatever issues he currently has with his general wellness, whether it be sickness or something else, I sincerely hope he gets better. such a skilled and seemingly fun and kind individual deserves the best. I do hope he finds some enjoyment in his 'fame' through these videos, not just shame. he's managed to entertain millions. That's something to be proud of.
Somehow this vid gets added to my feed.
Nice job youtube
This is what vocaloid is about. Not repeating the same work. But adding your unique talent to works.
Brier is best girl
It honestly hurts so much to find out how badly injured he was a few years back all because of a reckless driver
My heart goes out to his family and loved ones in hopes that he makes a speedy recovery
Hopefully one day, we’ll be able to see him at his full potential yet again 💖
I didn't know that...
I wish him the best!
:(((( oh god i didnt even know this i hope he gets better
Oh no...
I hope he heals from his ailments.
Shoot... I know this is serious but my mind immediately *races* to "having a speedy recovery". In a car crash with a reckless driver.

a 1984 Japanese "city-pop" genre song named "Plastic Love" claimed 23 million views in 2014. You're never late for good songs. It is a 80s nostalgic tune, recommend:

I don't think people really realize how INSANE this guy is.
He literally looks at it and is already able to play like the first measure. LITERALLY A SECOND. AND HE'S ALREADY GOT THE RHYTHM. The rest is just him feeling the song out, and then he just goes off on his own to create a masterpiece. This guy is literally a legend.
And these chords aren't common chords at all, with decent jumps with the left hand. And he just read all of that so fast.
I would sell my emotions to get this good.
i mean the rhythm is on the sheet, so yeah, he read it so fast tho
but i still agree that he's a legend, he made the rest so amazing
@@cryosende obviously it would be on a sheet
We all sell our emotions to get that good trust me. Well emotions and time which is worse.
Emotional choice
i would sell my emotions for 1 dollar
Damn, it turns out that about 4 years after this video, Tom Brier suffered a terrible accident that left him paralyzed and unable to play the piano. So unfortunate.
Jeez what a throwback
The fact that he studies the chords just long enough to say "alright that's enough of that" and go off into his own thing that STILL SOUNDS LIKE NYAN CAT is absolutely mind-blowing. This is why I love jazz.
Edit: Guess this would be considered ragtime. Thanks guys
