I’m mentally ill, and because of that I want you to know how much I appreciate what you do. On my worst days you provide the best distraction, on topics of things I love, keeping me in a mentally safer place. This stuff is becoming my lifestyle as I heal, I’m just filled with gratitude the whole way along. 💛
The MCR inspired enclosure is still one of my favorites. And I feel like the black widow is so perfect for it! I’m not brave enough to own any spiders (still have pretty bad arachnophobia), but I could just watch your videos all day!
I love seeing those timelapses! My little G. pulchra Frey spent a couple of days burying itself and is now just hanging out in the burrow it dug. Thankfully it dug it right next to the front face of the Tarantula Cribs enclosure so I can see it just sitting in there. I've been told it's just something slings do, so I'm not worried. Mostly I'm hoping it means it's going into pre-molt. It's been interesting watching Frey excavate the burrow, if nothing else.
I dont have a tarantula but seeing all the love you put into rehousing and the information about keeping one keeps me wanting to see more. Keep up the good work.
Love the new terrestrial coffin set-up! The footage of Salem molting was amazing! Great video! My 4 slings from Microwilderness are doing great. It's crazy that something so small gets so big.
that Emperor's new clothes Makeup reminded me of Legend Darkness ( Jim Curry ) that Movie stilll Sent Chills on my Back what he Said " What Is Light Without Dark "
Wow! That molt footage was amazing. Awesome that you managed to catch him making the mat right up to the flip! 🖤 I absolutely ADORE the coffin enclosures. The temptation to pay for shipping to the UK is definitely there 🤣
Okay for those of you who do not want to read a lengthy question / comment / story please scroll past this. I've always been curious about when tarantulas and crustaceans go through the molting process. I wonder if it hurts them at all. I know sometimes when they're going through the molting they can get stuck or some of it gets stuck in it tears their skin and I know that's painful. But I've always wondered if it hurts them to go through it. Several years ago I saw a video on TH-cam of a lady who had a translator that was stuck in mid molt. And this lady was able to save her Transflo without losing any limbs. It took her about 5 to 6 hours to do this. And she was misting the transfer. And she had these really really find tiny scissors that she was removing the transfer of skin around its legs so she could release the legs. After getting the legs release to release the main body parts which are the thorax and the carapace. She was able to save her tarantula. And she was very happy that her tarantula survive this. But that video clip was very long time ago. I don't even think I can find it on TH-cam anymore. But the tranchula's next molt went well. It was able to do the next molt with no issues whatsoever. But she watch that tarantula just to make sure that the most it was getting ready to go through again but well. And when her Transflo got stuck in the molt. She had just come home from work and she would go check on it cuz she knew was going through the molting process. And she could tell something wasn't right because it just locked up and it couldn't get out of its old skin. And she could sell it was still alive it hadn't died. So she grabbed a video camera and she set it up and she started doing this and she time lapse video. But as I was watching the video I was watching her cut very carefully with these very unique scissors she had and they fit right up underneath the tarantulas skin so she could cut through that old molt get it off. And she was peeling back the old molt on her tranchula's legs and she was very careful not to pull the hairs out or anything like that. And she had these little magnifying goggles on kind of that gave her a better look and closer look at her tranchulas legs as she was cutting through the old molt. And then when she went to the tarantulas rear end she cut right up the underside of the translators backside. Without actually making the tarantula at all just kind of cool. And then when she got to the carapace she had to go to the side of the tranchula worked your sitters underneath the carapace and just kind of peeled it up. But the whole time she's doing this she's misting it a bit. To get the molt soft so she can remove it. And like I said she got the skin off the tarantula was fine it survived. No limbs lost. And it went ahead and had eggs later on. It turned into an adult female tarantula. Had a whole lot of baby tarantulas. Which was pretty awesome. Now the species of tarantula she had was the Goliath bird eating tarantula so I don't think she would have risked this with a smaller species of tarantula I think if it came to a smaller one she probably would just euthanized it. But because it was her Goliath bird-eating tarantula she wanted to try to do everything she could to save it.
Oh interesting. Kat is a cheap plastic skull kind of person after all. I knew it was all an act :). Your spiders are beautiful. Awesome time lapse of Selem's moult, really enjoyed that.
I love how far you have come with your enclosures from your early days🖤 I am hoping you will find this comment and be able to point me to where one may find those black sticks, they are awesome looking!
Awesome Video Kat Absolutely Loving this enclosure!!! Molting for Pulchra's must be contagous because Ellie molted today as well!!! Sh'e WHITE right now at least until she's hardens a bit.... And yes Grammostola are an Awesome species!!! ❤❤🕷🕷❤❤
I'm finally getting my first Grammastola Pulchra.....plushie! Hopefully when me and my partner finally move, we plan on getting one, hopefully a sling, it'll be our first tarantula! they've wanted one for so long, but i always said no due to my arachnophobia. You and Exotics Liar have really really helped me with that. Also hope to have a jumping spider, they are the sweetest little things, love them!
Oh dang.. now seeing that coffin enclosure used for a terrestrial setup (AMAZING design btw!), I kinda wish I'd selected the coffin!! But no, as the hex enclosures I got (with your code, of course!) are more suitable to my more fossorial-ish darlings getting an upgrade. Hmm maybe when my centipede is bigger the coffin could be an option! 😁
I know the band Panic At The Disco🎵 Yes of course we recognize the song from Bella's enclosure 😉 The Coffin enclosure is so beautiful, with your creativity it makes something so great, I love it ! 🤗 Bella's all grown up 😍 Salem's molt timelaspe is awesome 👌🏻 He's even more gorgeous than before 😍✨️🖤(if possible) Thanks Kat 🫶🏻
I'm watching with subtitles on and it said 'my grandma stole a polka sling' when she pronounced the Latin name of Bella (I think) in the beginning of the video 😂
You might consider turning the hide around so it faces the skulls, maybe push the butt of it against the wall. That way the large lip at the end isn't blocking your access when you need to feed her or tease her out. Just a thought.
wow what an amazing video. I cant stand spiders but the photographer in me finds them fascinating as long as theres about 4 miles between us. I got hooked on your videos and am even thinking of getting my own little photography buddie ( jumping spider lol as brave as youll get me. In UK so need to look up who and where ) Id off loved to have photographed Salem moulting. Ive even ordered my very own Salem lol miracles will never seize. Anyway thanks for that lovely video and just how amazing nature is and how they moult. Thank you for another great watch 🕷🕸🖤
New to the spider community, love you videos. can you do a video of all ones in the skin bin? I just received my Phidippus Regius today she's 6 months old :D
Hey kat I bought my first spider!!! I got a jumping spider. Can you give me some tips on caring for it. When to feed it. How often. Do I spray the enclosure everyday It’s very tiny
Help! I've acquired my very first spider & this is my first attempt at keeping & caring for one. (Awesome video as always btw) My husband found and caught what I believe to be a Tigrosa Grandis Wolf Spider while doing some yard work. I named him/her Thing. I've done my best, while not being able to purchase anything for my spider yet, by making an enclosure using soil found near by & feeding or attempting to feed earth worms caught in our yard. I've had it for about a week now. Checking on it every few days. Today I thought it had got out but it was camouflaged in a big dirt clump and attached is what I think may be a eggsac. I need help and advice on all the things I should and shouldn't do for "her"? now. I feel very much responsible to make sure she and her babies survive. I don't want to kill my first spider. I wasn't expecting an eggsac for sure. And it will be awhile before I can purchase reptisoil, crickets etc. So I'm doing it all natural for now. I've been watching you since this winter & couldn't wait for spring to find my very own spider. Please advise. Again thank you in advance. All help will be greatly appreciated. Btw she is absolutely gorgeous!
Oh how stressful that must be for them to molt. Could you imagine if humans had to do that. We wouldn’t live too long either. Poor guy glad he had a good molt and is happy fluffer now.
I can appreciate that they're really cool, even if they're not for me. =) I'm trying to convince the partner to get a jumping spider in one of the coffin enclosures, though!
I’ll know he is mature because he will have some spurs on his legs called tibial hooks and also emboli on the end of his pedipalps which is a mating organ! thank u 🫶
Big spiders give me the creeps. A friend of mine had a Theraphosa Blondi that molded but he thought the spider died so he tried searching for it and all of a sudden that thing Usain Bolted towards him. Snakes i'm okay with. Lizards and stuff i'm really okay with. Do wanna kinda get over my it's not really fear but i want to get more comfortable with spiders. So maybe i'll go for a jumping spider. Don't know if that's a good one for beginners. I'll have to do some research.
Hi Kat! I just want to say I love your videos, I've actually learned quite a bit from watching them... I so agree that the Brazilian Black is honestly one of my favorites. I have looked & looked for one for so long that wasn't over $250. Practically impossible, im sure you can agree. Anyways I was wondering of I could ask your opinion on something? I just recently found a beautiful good sized specimen that is labeled a Uruguayan Black. Anyways I realize they're slightly different but I've read alot that they're almost like the same species... So I just was wondering what your opinion on them was? I think it may be a female, good size, only $130. He said I could have it for... she's already Black too. Your's are magnificent. You are so lucky... So if you get a chance & have time, could you please get back to me? I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance. 😊🐈⬛🐈🕷
Dying to see if that’s the case that she’s female cuz I have one about a moly behind that’s that black after molting a week ago! I’d love mine to be female
only a few days left to get the limited Salem plushie before it's gone forever! - www.makeship.com/products/salem-plush

I had no idea that molting also directly involves the fangs - neat!
I love watching tarantulas molting! So cool. There aren't many places you can say Skin Bin and have it be acceptable though 😂
The coffin enclosure is so much bigger than I realized! 🖤
Moltz are amazing! Sooo cool to watch! 🕷♥️⭐♥️⭐♥️🕷
It's always a heart in mouth situation to see what they have to go through to grow . Well done Salem 🕷
Oh interesting. Kat is a cheap plastic skull kind of person after all. I knew it was all an act :). Your spiders are beautiful. Awesome time lapse of Selem's moult, really enjoyed that.
