I think a lot of it stems from him letting promoters and the like take advantage of him a bit in the past and now feeling like he’s entitled to basically everything. And let me clarify by taken advantage of. During a lot of years where he was one of the top stars he was paid less than other top stars, often times because he felt loyalty to the NWA, JCP and WCW. In a lot of ways financially he was a team player in the sense of his position in the business versus what other top names were earning in comparison. One thing he’s said before that I see his point on but don’t necessarily agree with was a comment about Crockett not signing him to a big money deal prior to the sale to WCW. He mentions how Turner wasn’t buying JCP without flair. And that once he learned that later he was upset at Crockett for knowing that and not giving flair a larger deal. Ric basically felt that Crockett knowing that the deal depended on Ric, and that since the company was being sold he wouldn’t be on the hook for what Ric would be making, should have given him a larger deal to compensate him for that. I’m not sure that’s totally fair but I can see Rics argument for it. Nowadays when we see how he handles various business things I think it largely stems from feeling taken advantage of when he was a team player and now wanting to make sure he gets a piece of everything he feels is his. So I don’t really chalk this up to him being broke.

I disagree with flair whole heartedly unfortunately. Hes one of my all time favorites and will always be but buddy Roger's used the nature boy slogan before Flair and rogers didnt send him a cease and desist order or try to sue for a paycheck. Since theres no copyright or trademark on "the man" he cant do anything and they wouldn't have granted a trademark on "the man" because it's way to commonly said and not original so he wouldnt have won the trademark in the first place.
@MDM Thank you for explaining that to me on the official Jim Cornette TH-cam channel. You know what I do when I don't like someone? Don't bother with their content, don't bother spreading negativity, I just get on with my life. Try it, dude. I believe in you.
I think this was a major mistake on Flair's part. First because his claim on "The Man" is tenuous at best, there have been many people who've called themselves The Man and not just in pro wrestling, I've seen baseball players, football, hockey, even politicians and comic book writers, it was not an uncommon nickname especially with people named Stan, and as the guy on here said Ric was not one of them. Ric has been The Nature Boy, Slick Ric, even Space Mountain, but aside from his catchphrase "to Be The Man..." I can not remember a single time where he actually referred to himself as The Man. The Second thing is Vince and Triple-H have done a hell of a lot for Flair over the years, they've given him massive respect, they bailed him out financially when he was in trouble, and Flair taking them to court over this silly thing does nothing but burn a relationship that doesn't need burning.
Trademarks work in specific mediums. So it isn't hard to trademark something like that with specification on sports entertinments and tie it into existing tradenarks......which he already owns. Also, the fact that WWE filed for the trademark and were denied because of similarities to Ric's existing trademark says that he has the upper hand, which is why he is threatening to file a trademark and then sue once it is an likely will be granted. This has been going on since 2018, seems like a settlement is best for WWE here as Ric is on top in this situation.
He's nuts, they owe him nothing. He was "The Nature Boy". Furthermore his daughter's copying him from robes, to initials on the boots, finisher just changed in name, multiple world titles, etc. So should he tell her to knock it off. This whole thing's stupid.
Flair is such a tragedy man. He’s probably made so much money, he could’ve been set for life after the year 2000. If only he didn’t get married 69 times and spent money on goofy shit all his life. And still, how has his last run with wwe not been enough for him to get smarter with his money?
Charlotte dedicated her life to building her career with WWE after her brother's life was cut short as a means of honoring him. I think what Ric fails to see is that anything that WWE giveth, WWE can taketh away. Ric really isn't thinking about risking his daughter's sacrifice by making this legal claim. Buddy Rogers passed down the mantle of Nature Boy to Ric graciously and it's unfortunate that Ric can't do the same with The Man.
If he didn’t copyright it, he can’t say shit. Plus it’s hard to feel sorry for a guy who made that kind of money for so many years. Save your money! Ric of all people should have known that.
Nature Boy Buddy Rogers should come back from the dead and sue FLAIR! If he had saved most of his millions he amassed over the his 40+ year career instead of pissing it all away while "Living his Gimmick", he wouldn't need to be suing the only company that has helped him over the last 20 years over it.
It's like suing over use of "The Icon" or "Best in the World". These phrases are common sports terms that don't really belong to any one individual for all time.
"The Man" is such a general phrase used everywhere that it would be ridiculous if anybody would claim anything becouse of this. Flair just needs money and hopes they will settle with WWE.
I never believed any of that swill - even in the 80s and 90s you would hear stories about the wrestlers driving everywhere, flying commercial, staying in mid-priced motels and hotels, etc.

Flair's lizard skin shoes cost more than your house!!! 😂 (remember that old line? lol)
Fatboy can't be that stupid but then again probably still salty about WWE pulling taker from Starrcast
In all due respect, cuz i'm definitely a Flair fan, but Ric wouldn't be strapped if he wasn't throwing superbowl worthy parties 365 godamn days a year.
"Alright.. God damn.. Don't get hot. I'm tapping."
William "A Man's Man" Regal is suing WWE.
Becky claims to be “the man” because she beat The Man’s daughter??? I thought it was To be the man you have to beat the man.
Sid used to use the "the man" line all the time. He was always yelling "I am the man". This was nothing more than a money grab by a man who squandered his millions and wound up in debt, and hes still taking bookings to survive to this day even though his health has begun to decline. Its ridiculous on one hand and sad on the other.
Agree with Jim. Send Ric a check and keep him happy.
Well, someone has to pay for all of Charlie's plastic surgery.
Flair didn't even invent "the man" its just a common phrase. He stole "nature boy".
Where was this 4 years ago when Seth Rollins was calling himself the man?
Cue New Day’s Seth’s the Man Seth’s the Man
And now he's the Man's bitch :)
Ric hadn’t trademarked it then yet, apparently he did last month and is now moving forward with lawsuit.
This SHOULD be a work, but it’s not. He’s been unfollowed on Twitter by the top people in WWE, which is apparently serious business. Pay Flair to eat a pin from Becky over the nickname or Becky and Charlotte should have a match over it.
Oh god, unfolowed on twitter, the horror!
What about Goldberg? He was "The Man!" Sid Vicious was called the Man as well.
His nickname is not 'The Man' in any way lol noone calls him that. Jim just wants his buddy to get paid.
I don't think Ric has a leg to stand on either. Jim Crockett Jr. Though. That is a whole different story.
To be the man you have to beat the woman. Woooooooooooo I’m trying to keep these alligators down
Or maybe Ric sees Charlotte doing a big job soon or something creatively displeasing and is trying to get a bigger payday out of it.
I always thought Hogan should have received royalties for the word "Mania" used in WrestleMania. The original Mania was Hulka-mania. I mean as long as we are splitting hairs.
Ric Flair is sad and pathetic. He would literally do ANYTHING to try and get a couple of dollars.
The fact Ric openly stole another wrestlers name, and is now pulling this nonsense? It's sad how much of a mess of a human being he is.
as many hits to the head as he's taken to the head not to mention the plane crash combined with his age I feel bad for him he's probably got some cte shit going on it happens to a lot of these guys
when Jim says "Let me tell you somethin'" youd better let him tell you somethin'.
Flair doesn't have a legal leg to stand on IMO. He didn't trademark "The Man" so end of story. Stan Stasiak's family has a better chance of making this work.
I could love this TH-cam channel for the graphic art alone lol
Cornette lives in a tiny world if he thinks Flair came up with "The Man". LMAO
He NEVER says anything bad about Flair.
Ric Flair owns the Nature Boy Gimmick. Rodgers relinquished it to him on November 22nd 1979 in their passimg of the torch match.
I love Jim but he's just wrong about Flair's claim. It's ridiculous and it's embarrassing.
Hers I what I think WWE should give Ric 1000 dollars a month for the use of the man just so he can shut up
@MDM Thank you for explaining that to me on the official Jim Cornette TH-cam channel. You know what I do when I don't like someone? Don't bother with their content, don't bother spreading negativity, I just get on with my life. Try it, dude. I believe in you.
Looking forward to seeing you in the NWA Jim! 👍
“Harvey Race” always tickles me 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think this was a major mistake on Flair's part.
Actually, Ric said Hulk Hogan helped him as much or more..
If she wants to use the alias, she needs to face Nyla Rose. To be the man, you gotta beat the man!
@Green CatGurl no he's a man. That's a fact.
Green CatGurl He was born with A dick,His dna will always show him to be male.He doesn’t have a real vagina just a cut in half mutilated penis.
Ric never called himself “The Man.” It was used as a part of a catchphrase. Not the same thing. Plus, he stole “Nature Boy.”
Kevin Edwards I'm the man!!! Woooooo
False lol Nature Boy was passed down to him like a torch sir.
It's like one morning Ric woke up, heard lebron was trying to trademark taco Tuesday like he came up with it, and got the idea he should try it too.
They should have a match. Becky vs Ric.... if she wins, she can use it... "to be the man you have to beat the man."
Awesome Shoot Today Jim!!😎🐐🐐
He's nuts, they owe him nothing. He was "The Nature Boy". Furthermore his daughter's copying him from robes, to initials on the boots, finisher just changed in name, multiple world titles, etc. So should he tell her to knock it off. This whole thing's stupid.
Flair is such a tragedy man. He’s probably made so much money, he could’ve been set for life after the year 2000. If only he didn’t get married 69 times and spent money on goofy shit all his life. And still, how has his last run with wwe not been enough for him to get smarter with his money?
The estate of Stan Musial is watching closely. In WWE terms, they were calling Stan Stasiak "the man" long before Ric had anything to do with it.
Jim says “see” with three syllables.
To be the man you gotta sue the man
I believe this lawsuit by Ric Flair is ridiculous! This is exactly like when Spike Lee wanted to sue Spike Network; it's beyond ridiculous!
Ric Flair was never The Man, his name was Nature Boy Ric Flair. He just have a catchphrase of "To be the Man, you gotta beat the Man".
Can’t believe Flair squandered all his money 😞
This almost sounds like a work to gain heat for Charlotte against BL.
I love Flair but I don't think he can lay claims to that
He most certainly said "and BROTHER, I'M THE MAN!"
Flair will do anything for a buck. He is also suing Bobby Roode for wearing a robe.
He might as well sue Charlotte for wearing a robe too if that's the case...
The absolute madmen. They played that “pretty cool a woman is the man now” WWE2K20 ad right before this
If he didn’t copyright it, he can’t say shit. Plus it’s hard to feel sorry for a guy who made that kind of money for so many years. Save your money! Ric of all people should have known that.
TO BE THE MAN YOU GOTTA BEAT THE MAN (in court)
So, should WWE pay Bret Hart because they call Shane the best?
shinfitz nah CM Punk would be getting royalities
If people asked me about Flair I'd always think Nature Boy, but never the Man.
Now Anthrax will have to pay the Nature Boy royalties every time they play I’m The Man.
Ric Flair took the Nature Boy and the Figure 4 leglock from Buddy Rodgers
Did he really come up with "to be the man you have to beat the man?" Serious question
They're all in the business of making money. It's entertainment and the usage invokes Flair's usage of the term to me, I think he deserves something.
Wish she could have 'When the Man comes Around as her entrance, such a Great n badass song
The public bus riding, commercial airplane flying, wheelin dealing, handshake feeling, bankrupt sonovagun!
Wooooooo!
Should have wrote wheel chair wheeling catheder wearing lmao
I never believed any of that swill - even in the 80s and 90s you would hear stories about the wrestlers driving everywhere, flying commercial, staying in mid-priced motels and hotels, etc.
@@michaelinhouston9086 Yep it was a gimmick for the most part. Though for sure he spent lavishly on personal items.
The fact that WWE supports Trump has me glad I canceled my network subscription a year or 2 ago & haven't looked back. I bootleg their payperviews tbt🤷🏾♂️
Vince loan Flair 800.000 when Flair was in deep doodo and although Flair paid it back over time, Vince was willing to write it off. This lawsuit is a bit of a low blow imo.
Flair is hoping that in order to avoid a costly lawsuit WWE will throw him a little $$$. He sure doesn't mind burning bridges though for money.
Haha the ad was wwe 2k20 talking g about who "The man" is
Ohio State University tried to trademark the word "The" lol
Conrad's not going to be invited to Thanksgiving at the in-laws house this year
That’s not anything that anyone associates with Ric Flair.
That is something that the state of big Van Vader should pursue.
“who’s the man?”
I agree with Jim on Vince should just send Ric a cheque, it's not like Vince can't afford it.
Jimmy is all about paying the boys. I love it.
The WWE gave Trump 300k?! Hahahaha, that's 300,000 more cheeseburgers Jim just hate ordered at Wendy's
Trump 2020 bitches!
