- The Nextbase 522 Dash cam. Don't waste your money paying Halford to fit it! Do it your self by following these easy instruction, they can be applied to most vehicles. At least try to first! Like and subscribe for more. Is this the best dashcam?

For the record the cable will NOT interfere with the functionality of the A pillar airbags, as he didn’t go in front of the door seal, or behind the pillar trim in front of the airbag unit. This is a perfectly safe installation.

What about the airbag in the pillar, shouldn’t the wire be routed behind that and how do you do that?

Just wire it into the fuse box! It's super easy and you have the camera too low. It should not impair the drivers vision.
That is an option too. One the customer didn't want. And it doesn’t impair the vision its behind the rear view mirror. I had it confirmed with mot test station. Thanks for the comments tho. 🙂
As long as it’s not in the ‘A’ zone it’s perfectly legal. Mine is in a similar position, anywhere else and it does get in the way.
Mine was hard-wired in. Presumably I just need to insert the SD card and download the app for it to store and record footage?
Wire in the piller is in the airbag
It’s easy that way but you’ll have to turn it off every time as the accessory socket doesn’t turn off with the ignition ! It needs wiring into fuse box to turn off automatically so Halfords isn’t such a bad idea if you’re unsure how to do it
The customer requested It Not be hard wired as they were selling the car in a few weeks. I'm well aware how to hardwire it. But I'll be sure to put all the options on the next video. Thanks.
I don’t do hardwired and my dash cam turned itself off few secs after I turned my car off.
Why place the camera so obstructively low? Would it not fit higher?
That "annoying thing" as you call it is the ferrite core. It is for interference suppression from FM or DAB radio. If you need it it should be placed about 20cm (7.5 to 8 in) from the camera. If you don't need it it can be removed. You should figure out if it needs to be used or not before running the line under the trim 🤣.

After watching your video i was reading all the the slips that came in the box and one says what it was so i Googled how far it needs to be from the camera before installing it and thought I'd add that info here 😅.

I have recently purchased one, and it seems to love saving a recording when the car door is closed, but for some reason, got my rear light cluster smashed, and did not record a thing. So not too sure on it at present, since it has not worked. Since i have no idea how or who smashed my rear lights - Driver side.
Plus they state put it on the passenger side of the rear view mirror, so you can not see the screen, so pointless for the so called reversing camera set-up.

i would put it higher - and you need too see the screen so i would put it higher and a bit nearer the passenger side -

One step i would add to the start is to clean the area of the window where you are applying the adheasive stand. Use some kind of fluid that removes oil and grease, on a microfiber cloth. That will help to ensure the adheasive sticker will stay on for the long term and is less likely to slowly come away with time.
This seems like a bit of a rushed job to be honest. The extra time to clean the window will make a big difference.

Can this be used without cigarette lighter port. Can you charge it and use it?
You would have to get a wiring kit separately from halfords then you would be able to plug it into the fuse box
Seems like a lot of trouble to set it up with wires under here and there. My dash cam just sticks to front window with a USB lead from camera to cig holder - so easy.
Wouldn't make a very interesting video doing it your way lol but you can do the same. You would just have cables in view. Thanks for watching.
Do not fit the sticky pad in winter as the glass needs to be warm AND also grease and dirt free for it to stick on.
It's not recommended to take off the ferrite core as that can result in the camera interfering with the car's DAB radio.
If the owner doesn't have a DAB radio it shouldn't be a problem but it's not good practice to take it off.
The position of the camera he has chosen is too low and will fail an mot in the UK.
From the drivers seat position it is directly behind the mirror not distracting the driver or obscuring the vision. I have asked 2 mot testers and can confirm this position would not result in a fail. In the UK.

Rinses halfords for being under qualified, but you haven't got a clue either?? Jesus christ.
And Halfords charge you £80 for this.
You shouldn't really install like that, besides the obvious like camera position. why would you push the wire behind the pillars which ofcourse then means the wire is being forced infront of the air bag, which means if you have an accident you have a wire aiming for your face at serious force (causing serious inury), if you want to fit it yourself do it properly and pull off the pillar and tie it behind the airbag, a bit more work but alot less injury, also connect it to your fuse box (how halfords do it) it looks tidier and more professional, yes you pay for it but I guess those "under qualified" do a better and safer job than you did in this video 😂😂 guess your even more under qualified, lesson is don't mock if you can't do it properly yourself 😂😂

Easier on cheaper cars like this. You need to take parts off of you have a decent car.
What's a decent/cheaper car mean? I have a 2008 BMW and the dashcam goes on easily, I also have a 22 Audi A4 Avant and it goes on easily too... No taking anything apart. Dunno what you drive but it definitely sounds cheap and undecent to me 😂

@@brianhayes1958 Lucky you. They damaged some trim fitting one into my wife's brand new Porsche Cayman GTS. I'm now trying to get them to pay for the damage they did. £300 to be precise. Bloody nightmare. She should have just asked me to fit it! Halfords - all spotty little kids who don't give a monkeys, even the manager was like a zombie. Now dealing with their head office... never again!
@@luciussander8217 That's a shame. You were obviously just unlucky. We also purchased a Thule Roof Box and Roof Bars, both of which were expertly fitted. Give the manager hell and I hope that you get it sorted to your satisfaction!!
You didn’t go behind airbag and didn’t wire to fuse box what a poor job and you slag off Halfords
The customer wanted to keep it via the cigarette light as they were changing the car in a month. So not really a poor job. More what the customer asked for.. thanks for watching.
