I am on a low carb diet and avoiding flour and sugar and I promise you I have not lost a gram in 19 days. I started just before new year. lost 2 kilos really quickly, then nothing. I'm doing everything right. Fibre, no sugar, no flour, good fats, still conscious of calories, lots of water, not drinking calories. UNBELIEVABLE. I'm handing my body over to medical science because it is defying the laws of physics right now.

Absolutely not true. I am 54 years old and 5 years post menopause. I don't eat sugar, I don't eat flour, I don't eat junk food. I also practice intermittent fasting. And i get regular exercise. I don't lose weight around my mid section. I continue to eat healthy anyway because I feel much better and I know overall I am healthier, but it does not contribute to weight loss.

I use estrogens hormone therapy, I don t use hydrocarbonates, I do exercise and I don t lose weight. Maybe you can post a story of a real life person who was fat and lost weight during or after menopause (but is doesn t really end does it). We women are getting sick of people trying to sell weight loss without showing real people who lost belly fat in this period of their lives. There is literally NO real live person to find on you tube who lost weight during menopause. Only skinny, already good looking women who use their looks to sell their product, but have nothing to show for in terms of real live testimonies of fat people who did lose weight during/after menopause......

I guess the only comfort we can all take is that we aren't alone!
I have been a whole food plant-based vegan since my mid-20s and I went through an earlier menopause at age 48.
My food lifestyle isn't "junk food vegan", it's Dr. McDougall type eating. High carb, low fat (The carbs are not processed. They are from things like beans and whole grains and fruits and vegetables and rarely any breads or pastas)
I'm adding vegan protein powder to things like my oatmeal to increase my protein but so far no luck (after about a year of adding extra protein)
By adding protein powder I'm adding an extra 300 calories or so per day to my diet just to get that extra protein boost, but I'm wondering if I should be doing that at all since 300 calories is 300 calories.
I'm getting a good amount of protein just from my clean vegan diet, but in order to get at least 100 g of protein per day, I need to add the supplemental protein powders.
(An average day of clean vegan eating would be like 70 g of protein and in order to get it up to 100 g of protein, I'm adding about four scoops of protein powder throughout the day to different things)
I'm very active as far as taking care of my family, on the go constantly and running my own business and I take daily walks for at least 30 to 60 minutes.
Over the last few years since going through menopause, I've gained 20 lb that won't budge off of the scale.
I look at my plate of black beans and broccoli or a potato and some other vegetable and my fresh fruit is dessert, feeling guilty for that banana, because nothing I'm doing is working even though I'm eating so cleanly compared to the standard American diet.
I have an intolerance to eggs so they give me severe stomach cramps because I could eat those ethically if I wanted to.
I wish I could eat plain Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, I can no longer have that. (Dairy industry is terrible for cows)
That would be a lower carb high protein snack, but it's off the table.
As of yet they haven't really invented a vegan yogurt alternative that is as creamy and low carb and high protein with the same macros as plain Greek yogurt.
That being said, I have gone through phases where I do try the plain Greek yogurt just to see if it makes a difference and it doesn't, as far as weight loss.
I think I'm just going to have to get into strength training and lifting weights because it doesn't seem like anything else has worked as far as diet.
I just had my annual women's well check and my doctor gave me the just cut carbs and track your calories speech and I literally wanted to cry.
I asked her about hormones and she said that's really only if you're having hot flashes and other bad symptoms, which thankfully my vegan diet has prevented me from having.
I'm about 5 ft 5 in. My lowest healthy weight was 135 and I haven't weighed this much since the early months of my pregnancies years ago.
I weighed in at 163 at the doctor yesterday. All of my blood levels look good and I'm healthy otherwise. So maybe the focus shouldn't be on the number on the scale.
But according to weight charts I believe I'm technically overweight for my height and frame.
It's SO very frustrating and discouraging.
I'm so grateful to be able to have the good food and nutrition that I'm able to have and provide for my family.
I eat vegan for health and ethical reasons and I want my lifestyle to reflect outwardly as positive - but somebody online saw my photo and commented that I was "looked too big to be a vegan" - Ignorant!!
I don't even eat pasta and I don't put dressing on salads. I don't do processed food or cook with oil!!
I'm averaging 1600 calories a day on my nutrition tracker.
Like I said, I'm just glad not to feel alone.
Thanks, ladies for sharing your struggles too! 🙏💛

I've been no grain, no sugar, very healthy keto, intermittent fasting AND keeping calories lower than a maximum of 1400 a day for years. I also have a 6 hours a week goal of intense cardio. The scale doesn't move for months, but all of my bloodwork is excellent. I am 20 to 30 lbs over the normal healthy weight I maintained my whole life eating three times as much and whatever I wanted.

I’ve been trying to lose the 40lbs I gained during menopause for 3 years. Prior to menopause, I was a healthy weight. It still took some work to stay in shape, but since menopause it’s been impossible! I’ve resorted to taking the compounded version of Wegovy since starter doses aren’t available anywhere in my area.

Same sh*tty story, different day ..
Add protein. At least 90-100grams/day (yes some of it will probably need to be in whey protein drinks)
Then, resistance training. 3x/week for about 30min. (can be done with bands instead of weights).
No, it's not your fault. Most women who see this video don't eat the "SAD" diet and still haven't had results. You need to develop lean muscle to activate the metabolism.

The only thing starting to work for me 5 years post menopause, is the diabetic plate method, 3 x a day. Even though I'm not diabetic.
Good old-fashioned sensible portions and square meals, just on smaller plates. Seems to rev up my metabolism. Advice: don't skip the 1/2 plate of veg at breakfast (just add it to something, like an omelet) to avoid 'morning tea nibbles'.
What I like about this too is I can eat (a healthy version) of anything. Fruit too, as long as it's part of my plate 1/4 for carbs.

I'm telling you these diets don't work.. the only thing that works after menopause to lose weight are all the medications for diabetes. I gained 40 lb in 3 years due to menopause. Never lost an ounce and I was cutting out everything and exercising my butt off I think I lost 5 lb in a year... I went on ozempic and I lost 25 lb in 3 months., but because of the shortages even if it's covered by your insurance they won't give it to you anymore and I don't have the money to pay cash for it. So I had to go off of it and have gained almost all of it back but like 8 lb in the matter of a couple of months. So I believe we're just fat now.... I think we're just going to be fat. Unless we all win the lottery and can pay cash for that s***.

It can be really frustrating when you’re making changes like eliminating flour and sugar but still not seeing the results you want. Sometimes, it might be about other factors like stress, sleep, or hormonal changes. It could also help to look at portion sizes, balance of macronutrients, or even other hidden sources of sugar. If you’re open to it, discussing your journey with a nutritionist or support group might provide some additional insights. You're not alone in this!

This just is not true. I’ve been on a low carb diet forever and it’s maddening

I'm not taking sugar or flour out of the equation. That would be such a boring diet. How about better sugars, like fruit and cane sugar? How about better flours, like imported Italian flour? Eat a Mediterranean diet and move a bit and you should be fine.

This is blatantly false. I did the sugar and flour free approach, did nothing at all.
Every alleged expert I see tackling menopausal weight gain offers similar useless advice.
