@@upgrayedd9732 I mean Fowler is clearly struggling regardless of the clubs he use ... but a ton of tour pros still use blades (including the most recent holder of the green jacket), and I assume they're doing so for a reason. But blades are a spectrum-not every blade will be like the Rev33s, and every pro wants to balance feel and workability.

I haven't used a blade set of irons (Northwestern Beginners Set...3, 5, 7, 9 Iron's, 3 and 5 Woods, and blade putter), since I first took up golf at Myrtle Beach (Air Force), Waaaaay Back in the early 70's. Now that I'm a Sexy SENIOR Citizen, I use a complete set of Adams Golf Irons and Metal Woods (VERY Underrated Clubs IMHO), and a Wooden/Brass (Well Balanced), Louisville Slugger Putter. No longer a 7 Handicap due to age and a Bad Back and Knees (PLUS, I still play from the white Tee's), BUUUUUT, I can still play Bogie Golf most days, and I'll take that ANY DAY!!! LOVE your channel Rick...Also LOVE the get together competitions you have with your Blokes...KEEP up the Great Videos!!!

I use 30-year old Accuform bladed irons. They are tiny and they remain the best golf clubs I have ever used to hit a ball. After all these years you can still feel the quote knife going through butter softness. It feels like the ball melts into the club face before reaching it's target. These clubs are absolutely astounding, and it's a shame they are no longer around. I can't remember who, but a prominent tour player swears to this day that Accuform irons were the best clubs he ever used. p.s. Obviously you need to know how to swing a club, but if you do, try to get your hands on Accuform irons. I would love to get your feedback.

Beginners or youngsters seem to have a built in fear of the club flying out of their hands when hitting a shot and so grip the club so tight that anything not out of the sweet spot shoots right up to the hands.
To measure how tight you should grip the club, imagine you are taking a swing while holding a tube of toothpaste with the cap off and not squeezing any out.

And the biggest differens is a hotter face, thus meaning that generally game-improvement irons create a faster ball speed. Missing the sweedspot yields about the same loff of energy about 10%... So you really don't miss a lot of distance compared to a perfect hit.
I know a lot of people who believes the nonsense that you need to be some kind of pro to play them... Even pros believe it... Kevin Na for instance. Which is absurd.
Howerver, there is a huge difference between modern blades and blades made before 1990... there you loose alot of ball speed even from center hits. But a modern 2021 blade iron is easy! Go try one!

I've always wondered about that....your idea of using a tiny, zero forgiveness blade set just for practice. It sounds like a great idea! When I was a young Junior Golfer in the 90's, I used an old set of Faultless Lee Trevino blades until I was 16 and had saved up enough money to get Ping Eye II's. I really believe my ball striking was much better back then, with the old blades. I do know that it was around that time that my improving seemed to slow down and then at age 18 it stopped. I'm not certain if the switch from demanding blades, to perimeter weighted offset clubs was the culprit, but I've always wondered???

Rick, scratch golfers years ago playing blades, e.g., Wilson Staff Dyna-Power, would have wear marks about the size of a quarter not in the middle of the face but closer to the hosel. The sweet spot on blades is actually closer to the hosel for the lack of perimeter weighting. Give it another go and try to keep that fact in mind. Great VDO - Their looks are righteous.

Looking at a blade down the shaft is a feeling you get when you are holding a hot knife and you know that you will get through that butter no matter what. The back spin and the feel you get demands a near perfect swing. Ofcourse when you have a set in your bag your playing partners don't even think of offering you any unsolicited advice!!!!!!
