Should point out that "If this card battles a monster, neither monster is destroyed" effect actually does have an origin in the anime and manga. During Pegasus and Yugi's first duel in the anime, when Illusionist Faceless Magician and Dark Magician battled against each other, Pegasus used the Eye of Illusion spell card to make it so neither monster was destroyed by battle. The fact that the card designers were able to pull a gameplay mechanic out of something that was over two decades old at that point is just wild to me.
I love how the 4 phantom beasts were completely ignored, they are part of the same archetype and also technically part of the mecha-phantom beasts as well
Fun Fact: The 4 Phantom Beasts have the same stats and effects as the White Knight cards Chazz used during his duel with Jaden while he was a member of the Society of Light
Hey, Sam, just want to say you're my favorite Yugituber. Not because you are the first to info out, but because your personality is just pleasent to watch. You're not too loud and bombastic and you don't put all cap titles on your videos. You're just nice to listen to.
It makes perfect sense for the Gazelle to be a beast even in the retrain. It's description says it "looks like" an illusion to mortal eyes due to it's speed, it isn't actually one.
I love that Berfomet is literally just Baphomet. The hero of the original manga just casually has one of many depictions of the Beast in his deck like it's no big deal
I thought it kind of made sense in a roundabout way. He was a product of an ancient era that worshipped gods and practiced magic that would fall into pagan or occult territory by monotheistic religions. He was also a dead spirit possessing a boy through magic. He was a demonic character when seen through a modern lense so his cards reflecting that made sense. His memories being removed, Yami himself was no longer grounded by any past context either. The less demonic and occult side of his deck building was Yugi's influence.
I always enjoyed watching Yugi play those cards and now seeing them in their own Fusion themed archetype ( my favorite kind ) I couldn’t ask for more! Definitely making sure to get them all.
Definitely a favourite archetype of mine, I love how they handled the new Chimera cards and the flavour and designs of all the new Illusion monsters are so cool.
I know I am lost for words it’s the best also competitive if u build right, anyways is illusion monsters yami yugi monsters or Pegasus cuz they have the eye 👁️
8:46 The Romaji for this card comes out to be "Kornfirudo Koatoru" and "Koator" was just a mistranslation of "Coatl" that got shortened because of card name space limitations!
You know it a shame that celtic guardian mystical elf and feral imp never got within the Chimera Archetype also love how your doing yugi deck spawns first before moving on to other decks
For real, Obnoxius Celtic Guardian fits right in with the whole aspect of the "If this card battles an Opponent's Monster, neither are destroyed by Battle", considering the original was about surviving bigger monster attacks and Yugi notoriously led with the card, only for it to lose its encounters
Aesthetically i think a retrain of Feral Imp would have worked better than the Mirror Knight for Chimera support. Mirror Knight can definitely stay as generic Illusion Support
Celtics Guardian probably never had a chance to get picked as Chimera support to begin with. Except for the Fiend-Alignment Berfomet, all of the retrains for the Chimera archetype are connected by virtue of having the Dreams alignment in the games they appear in, Dreams being the localized version of what is known as Illusion Magic in Japan. Cornfield Coatl and Mirror Swordknight were chosen because they're constructed cards from Dark Duel Stories with the Dreams alignment, and they were likely picked over the others due to having very striking visual designs, since a lot of the other constructed Dreams monsters have similar or inferior stats to them, or have awkward levels and stat combinations. There are other cards originating as retrains of older cards that weren't covered in this video, but all of them also had Dreams alignment in the games (Tao and Golgoil) to justify Illusion retrains.
Man i love re-trains of classic cards we saw in the anime so nostalgia. Konami def needs to make cards about Greek mythology one of my favorites mythos

Can you really count Archfiends? I mean, Yugi only ever played 2 Archfiends in his deck. Sure, the manga seemed to imply Summoned Skull was his original ace monster in his first duel with Kaiba, but it never got much in the way of special treatment after that beyond being "one of Yugi's strong monsters who isn't Dark Magician." Then it got replaced by Gilfer in Battle City and didn't get another mention until the anime version of Yugi and the Pharoah's last duel.
@@decepticonmaster7702protection from destruction, banishment, traps, spells, and possibly effect negation. I still say they should take the Legend of Zelda route and create a Celtic Princess, Celtic Beast, Celtic Goddess, and so on with various effects.

"They project illusions, as they are illusions of themselves." I honestly prefer to see that the Phantom Beast Archetype is based on one of the most iconic monsters from Dungeons & Dragons: Displacer Beast. This monster has a unique effect that it can create a double image of itself, making it hard to hit and pin down. However, this monster's hide is highly sought after by many adventurers, considering how that effect can be crafted into a Displacer Cloak, giving you the same effect as a Displacer Beast when the hood is up, forcing Disadvantage when you are attacked. The whole archetype using 'illusions', falls in line with this.
This gives me an idea for a fusion retrain of “Wall of Illusion”, “Castle of Dark Illusions” and “Labyrinth Wall”: _Labyrinth Wall Castle of Darkest Illusions_ (DARK) Level 12 Pendulum Scales: 13⬅️➡️0 _If this card would be placed in your Pendulum zone by card effect: You can Special Summon it instead, and if you do, it gains the following Pendulum Effects as Monster Effects. At the beginning of every Phase: Increase your LP, and the ATK/DEF of all monsters you control, by 200. If your opponent summons a monster with 1600 or less ATK or DEF: Destroy it._ Illusion/Fusion/Pendulum/Effect “Labyrinth Wall” + “Castle of Dark Illusions” + “Illusion Wall” _This card can attack directly while in Defense Position. If it does, apply its ATK for damage calculation. If this card would be Special Summoned, you can instead place it into your Pendulum Zone, and if you do, it gains the following Monster effects as Pendulum Effects. If a monster you control battles a monster, neither can be destroyed by that battle. If a monster you control is attacked, or you are attacked directly, after damage calculation: Return that attacking monster to its owners hand._ ATK/3700 DEF/5000
you know, i have to argue why Guardian Chimera is in here and not the Guardian archetype video when Guardian Chimera fits like a glove there (i.e requiring a spell to be summoned, and an effect that only works with that spell)
4:36 i think i see the eye. it is kind of hard to tell but it looks like it is behind the monster in the art. specifically, on the wall and rotated 90 degrees. hard to tell though.
Would be awesome if they expanded this archetype using more of the monsters from that game. And it’s also great that gazelle and berfomet have their own unique archetype now
I got a new video idea when you were talking about the Illusion counter part to the Dark Magicians. What effects would OG vanilla monsters have in the original series. Mainly the big iconic monsters like Dark Magician, Blue Eyes, Red Eyes, Flame Swordsman, BLS, Summoned Skull, Curse of Dragon and Gaia the Fierce Knight/Dragon Champ
I actually have a video idea it’s basically what Yugioh decks would characters from different anime series play. Like for example some of the characters from Fairy Tail such as Team Natsu, Team Shadow Gear, the Struss Siblings, and ect.

It wouldn't be great. Though while it may seem like cheating, you could combine BLS with any of the others just by using the Link monster BLS - Soldier of Chaos to represent the BLS archetype.
