The point where Brok say "I know what you've done, and I forgive you' shows the unimaginable levels of Brok's capacity to love. A legendary blacksmith with an enormous heart.
@@resentfulsidecharacter3713 Yeah. True. I guess it got something to do with the form. His form changed in the process of being resurrected. He was brought back to life at a cost.
@@resentfulsidecharacter3713 Yeah but the form did matter when it came to talking to the lady of the forge. Though the essence is Brok. The cross is, even though his essence was preserved, which is a great blacksmith, and a brave man, his form was sacrificed. That is, he is not whole.
I get the feeling that Brok disliked ‘Tyr’ because his extreme fear of violence reminded him of his brother’s germophobia and scaredy-cat behaviour. So when Tyr suddenly decides to lead them to war against Asgard, Brok immediately suspected him.
It could also be because Brok is more perceptive than he comes off as but never brought it up until now as it would create friction within the group. "Tyr" gives signals throughout the story that he isn't being upfront about stuff but everyone sort of handwaves it away as his trauma making him act unusual. Plus, just like the consensus amongst most in the Nine Realms is to not trust Odin, who would ever question the integrity of the god known for brokering peace, pacifism, and diplomacy?
If you think about it, it actually makes a *lot* of sense why Brok of all people caught on to Odin’s deception. He was a straight thinker, no nonsense type of guy who relied on his gut rather than his mind, and by doing that, he saved all the 9 realms in the process
Another brilliant aspect of this twist is Kratos himself. Kratos, in the beginning, instantly sees through Odin's bs "peace" offering. He clearly is good at this stuff, but Tyr thing was different for one big reason - Kratos wanted him to be right. Tyr being a guy who didn't want war or Ragnarok was exactly what Kratos needed, so he fell for the deception. He so desperately wanted to avoid fighting that Odin used that to his advantage.
I love despite being the manipulative mastermind Odin is, as soon as he got his hands on the mask, his great scheme and tricky nature gave itself away immediately as he got excited and impatient, therefore, sloppy. And Brock saw right through his bullshit. Brilliant writing.
@@VammainenLehma This wasn't regular excitement, it wasn't an ordinary thing. It was Odin's life's goal, he was willing to murder everyone in his way to achieve it. It was practically what he lived for. No matter how you train yourself and how prepared you are, somethings just always get you
@@StormtrooperFN-2199 no. They learn to control it no matter what, no matter how important the thing is, that’s the point. It’s simply just inconsistent writing.
@@VammainenLehma Not everyone is a freaking Spartan and even for Kratos, it took him centuries to get his rage down. It's like you have no understand of these characters whatsoever.
This also explains why Odin was so chill about letting Atreus leave Asgard anytime he wants, because he always had eyes on him in Sindri's house. He also didn't want Atreus to take Ingrid outside of Asgard because Ingrid would make her way back to Freyr.
That, and not letting Ingrid come was something to sort of anchor Atreus to Asgard. Odin acted like he knew he’d come back, (he was right, but he still didn’t know for certain), and he didn’t allow the sword Atreus had become attached with to come with him as a way to MAKE HIM come back. If Ingrid is locked up in Asgard, and mistreated by Odin, the. Atreus will want to come back so that he can keep an eye on her.
to think the very first time sindri has to get his hands dirty was on his brother's blood -- and is desperate to get his soul back. brok's parting message was well-fit for sindri to carry on
conspiring against him was one thing, getting insulted on the daily was one thing... His soup recipe getting disrespected as "passable dirt soup" is what truly drove Odin to the edge of fury and forced him to reveal his disguise.
What kills me is that we know that Kratos truly liked Brok. His bio in the Codex says he finds him to be "acceptable company" which from Kratos might as well me "he's my best friend". He also trusted Brok, not some ancient mystical forger, to bless his new weapon. You can tell this one hit him, and not just because his son was threatened
brok wanted to follow kratos into literal hell for atreus, kratos can do exactly what sindri did just to bring brok back but he didn't outta respect for brok
4:55 the pure rage in Kratos's delivery is amazing. He can barely get the words out. Imagine if Odin had killed Atreus. I'm sure all the nine realms would have burned.
@@xgaming2427 If you made Odin choose between the mask and Atreus, then he'd kill him in a heartbeat. Dude casually killed one son for disobeying him and imprisoned the other.
i think it was like most of the crew, apart from Freyr and maybe Sindri knew something felt off, but Brok seemed to compile all it together and it didn't weld together correctly
Kratos saved everyone throwing his spear at the mask just as Odin teleported away. Imagine how angry Odin must have been once he realized the mask was out of his hand.
It sucks Brok ended up dying as he was definitely my favorite of the two, and imo I think he was arguably Kratos' first and best friend he made in the Norse mythology world.
4:56 - "I am in control here!" I think that line is so fascinating, because of the situation as a whole. Odin has lost control of the situation by killing Brok. By giving into his urges and revealing himself by doing something completely unnecessary, he has lost control. Had he not killed Brok, Odin would not have died.
To be fair, the jig is pretty much up with his Tyr disguise. Brok sussing him out pretty much would probably lead to a snowball effect of him being revealed in the end anyway, so he tried to salvage it by getting the mask and killing Brok is just the cherry at the top. Being in that situation is probably a nightmare for a control freak like Odin, so him saying he's in control sounds more like a self-reassurance rather than a threat. Seeing the real prophecy probably what ticks him the most, and made him sloppy calling Atreus Loki and all that.
@@Darkwolf69420 Fair nuff, although to be fair the alternative is getting his soul stuck in a ball for the rest of time. Doesnt seem to be a better alternative, lol
Brok was the smartest one in this entire game, from suggesting to build Draupnir to calling out “Tyr”. I don’t know where they would be without him. Going to his funeral after completing the story is a must.
(Holy Hel! 3500 likes! )The Odin reveal makes a second playthrough so satisfying. So many clues given well ahead of time. Odin was a great actor but could not hide his emotions. You can see his fear when he first finds out about the actual prophecy and how he even bumps into Loki while he goes to take a closer look. He gets so mad when he found out he was lied to about the prophecy. Then how he immediately shows contempt to Loki shortly after. The way "Tyr" and Odin keep talking about peace. How he purposely turned Loki against his father by calling him Champion with a capital C. The cinematography of Tyr walking in from the dark when Freya first suggest raising an army to Kratos when Loki first goes to Valhalla and he even tries to buy time by telling Kratos to give Loki some time. He gets mad when he finds out the gnomes stole Draupmir. Tries to dissuade Kratos from killing his valuable Heimdall. Only Tyr knew of the mask just like Odin. But of all things, don't call Odin's cooking passable dirt soup! Of all the things!
I checked, and I'm pretty sure Odin only has one of his Raven Tattoos in all the scenes in Asgard cos one of them is chilling in the broom closet so he can double up as Tyr.
@@MyRYNOrunsHot nice find. That is if the raven was not just there chilling to call him for the switch once the team got near. But sometimes he seemed to be at both places at once so maybe he's missing the raven when Loki is in Valhalla.
He literally would have been invincible. Brok's life was a small price to pay for not letting Odin walkway with the mask for infinite knowledge. His magic would have gone beyond any plan on defeating him. It hurts though, Brok was a very good character, but he saved everyone.
The fact that EVERYONE fell for Odin's disguise and trickery, and Brok figuired the things out and stood for Atreus facing a literal god, is overwhelming and really shows that Brok's soul is in the right place despite all the 'incomplete' stuff. Credits to Odin for genius acting. To think Tyr would be so broken and repel weapons and battles, to pursuade everyone that's who he is. Damn, this all-f@cker definitely has one twisted cruel brain
Some of the hints we were given about his identity: - Kratos cutting Tyr's rope when they saved him. The way the rope is held, it looks like Tyr is being hanged. A reference to the nine days Odin spent hanging. - His surprise and later contempt at Loki after revealing the true prophecy. - He greets Freya as "Frigg". Odin's name for Freya, an attempt to bury her accomplishments and a reminder of her mistakes. -Calling Atreus the "Champion" knowing that this is a point of contention between father and son. - After Atreus returns home from his first trip to Asgard, Tyr is the first one to accuse Atreus of being the one who led the Hel-Walkers back home. He didn't even bother fighting, taking up a shield to protect himself first instead. - Finally, his last mistake. He was too keen to agree with everyone to suddenly lead the charge to Ragnarok after an entire game of advocating for peace. His greed and impatience caused him to slack with his words: Offering a fishy miracle solution to Asgard, calling Atreus "Loki" and never releasing the mask. Brok picked up on his squirrelly bullshit and confronted him.
As for him not fighting back from the hel walkers, im guessing that was odin coming back there from asgard since he was with atreus there just a few moments before
Brok doesn't just die with nothing. He died for Kratos and the others, because he cares about them, and to return the favor, they avenged Brok's death by unleashing Ragnarök upon Asgard.
"Now we kill Odin and anyone who gets in our way." I think this line from Freya is why Kratos wanted to leave with Atreus. He knew exactly what would happen if they went on a rampage in Asgard, killing everyone just to get to Odin, like how Kratos destroyed Greece for his revenge against Zeus. Wise old man Kratos, he is.
I don't know about that,Kratos like everybody else was bloodthirsty,HELL they came more prepared because of what Odin did bringing the people of vannaheim, the valkaries, draugr from musphelheim,Ragnarok itself,The entire army of hell,Elfs (and probably ancients since they seem to be with the elfs) just to go and face down Odin. And mind you they originally planned on just getting Ragnarok and if not for SIndri they would have gotten the Dwarves aswell
@@abhikergaming7783Kratos has literally lived that life, he knows the weight of “kill anyone who gets in our way” if anything he left to give everyone time to cool off and get a level head and not blindly run in and rampage.
The fact that Kratos seemingly quit after Brok is killed was such an impact... The Ghost of Sparta who never quit until the Greek Pantheon was demolished, and he quits because of the death of a FRIEND. It shows how much he's changed. The old him would've been vengeful right away, but this current version needs time to grieve the loss of someone he respected
@@Tradingdream11111they didn’t quit at all. He knew Atreus needed a moment but realized it wouldn’t do anything for anyone. They would have been hunted Odin and Thor forever. But it’s aight man.
I've been looking for a comment to highlight that part. It seemed a bit rushed, in my opinion, but this comment and another put more perspective to it.
This scene was very powerful. In Sindri’s desperation, you actually get to see how he physically shifts between the realms. NOT in the illusionary sense, but the only time in the series you see them ACTUALLY teleporting.
You can immediately see how it takes a toll on him, not only does he start not caring about people seeing him while steping between realms, but also when you go to Tyr's temple you see him smithing without gloves
I always wonder what the stepping between realms works and I think its close to the time slow that u can do in a realm shift. I feel when he disappeared he didn't going anywhere but scream, cried and begged in a place Noone but him and brok cam reach.
I like that in Norse mythology Tyr's right hand is bitten off by fenrir (a wolf giant) But in GoWR, odin who is impersonating as Tyr gets his right hand bitten by a wolf giant (Atreus).
He was Odin the entire time . What a GREAT plot twist . The characters in this game and their personalities are the best I’ve ever seen . Sindris development after this scene is phenomenal
To be honest, the game showed us many death flags surrounding Brok. From the Sindri revealed to Atreus that Brok had died once and he revived him, then the time when both Kratos and Brok went to "the Lady" to craft the Draupnir Spear, and the fact it was Brok who blessed the spear himself. It's not surprising, but his death still sad nonetheless.
Mimir said that there is no afterlife for brock due to the lack of a soul particle that Sindri forgot to take from Alheim's well of souls. But in fact, this particle is still there, that is, part of Brock's essence still exists. Or how does it work?
Will say Brok being the only one to figure out is oddly plausible given the circumstances: - He didn’t know Tyr was Odin, just that something was odd, and he’s always been this direct; he insults and calls-out gods on the regular - Everyone else greatly looked up to Tyr, that and his imprisonment explained some of his changes, basically they respected him too much to question as much. - Tyr’s location was given/hinted by the giants, not Odin, so the group had a non-Odin source to trust - The only real dramatic shift in Tyr’s character was when the mask was complete. Given Odin had just lost his chances at the mask thanks to Thor’s intruding, he’s already on edge and his excitement exceeds his patience and he breaks character for this moment to all of a sudden want to storm Asgard. - Again Odin is pissed he lost the mask thanks to Thor. Brok, a dwarf, smacking it out of his hands pisses him off more. - Odin attacks Brok out of anger and even says it wasn’t supposed to be that way, showing it was just Odin losing it. Overall Odin’s magical and mental manipulation ensured his disguise was full-proof, but he couldn’t hide his own ego and eagerness
@@tsaqifrizky5276 He kept his disguise for days almost perfecty. He won't reveal it just for soup. It is the fact that Brok cornered him with logical questions that he hsd to shut him up angrily.
4:15 My favorite part of this game is how deeply Kratos shook Odin throughout. Kratos says "stop moving" and he stops. That right there was the only time we saw Odin do anything that anyone told him to do. Kratos says little and Odin clearly hangs on his every syllable.
If we could see what Kratos saw right then it would probably be an almost entirely red screen filled with RAGE... and a single crosshair with Odin's face on it. The way he said "Odin." basically feels like him announcing a target. Man was _this close_ to going nuclear on that All-Fucker, made a beeline for his position from across the table and everything. I'm convinced that had Atreus not been in the trajectory Kratos would have lunged across the room.
I think the voice acting of Odin is perfect. Comes across as pure evil. Hadn't realised it was played by Richard Schiff. They got a top quality actor in to play the role and it shows.
I thought the opposite, idk why but it just sounds weird, like if it was just a bad guy from a movie, this is a god, not a robber, that’s just my opinion ofc
@@Trolleder214 I absolutely agree, this is a good way to put it. I think Odin had the worst "voice" (for lack of a better word) in the whole series. He sounded far too American/modern or "Hollywood" idk how to put it. He didn't sound like a God in Norse Mythology, he sounded like an actor in a TV show. Honestly I was kind of expecting a "he's a time traveler" twist purely because his personality was so off.
@@brandonthomas6592 I do agree that his voice is kinda funky but still tho you have to agree with that voice it really fits in, like his voice doesn't sound powerful he just sounds like your regular uncle/grandpa and that's the point Odin tricks people into his traps vis deception and mischief you wouldn't suspect a thing if Odin talks to you if you don't have prior knowledge of his gruesome deed's
In this universe instead of Loki being the great trickster Odin has become that his lust for knowledge has turned him into the most tratorist god in the series
This odin is not the Odin we know though in this universe he did everything to mess up the future to the point he was responsible for his own demise and his family demise no matter what Odin in the god of war universe was more selfish than any other god in their mythology because even Zeus wanted peace through his way of power Odin didn't care who died whether it be his people his son's or anyone else it was all about him even Zeus the lightning welding bastard he was cared to a point
Man the symbolism in this scene is brilliant Brock made that spear, he blessed that spear, he swore that spear will forever strike truth, he nailed when suspecting about tear, the nailed the truth of the mask, the truth of EXISTENCE, even if he was undead he was forever real, leaving a hole on everyone when he left a hole that is the answer of Brock’s riddle
Dude I thought it was weird that Tyr all of a sudden decided to fight after being put in the middle of the danger and never doing shit. But the oden reveal I was caught off guard
After all the stories Mimir has told us about Odin, this moment really shows how accurate Mimir's description of Odins traits are. "Even if you've never posed a threat before he may think that someday you might" this is exactly how Odin responds to Brok. Out of all the main characters, Brok was the one who was the most sceptical about "Tyr", so Odin took no chances and killed him immediately.
In the game, Brok actually died once and then Sindri brought him back but not as a whole. That would explain why he’s blue as he just a walking corpse, and explain to why Freya’s magic can’t heal him.
In nifilheim in the first game, sindri says he’s blue essentially bc he works on on silver metals with his bare hands (another reason why sindri is a clean freak)
It’s funny, I noticed a few hours in that “Tyr” and Odin had eerily similar voices, but thought little of it. I did note that the whole speech about being a god was said by Odin and not Tyr, as we had all expected it to. Still, the voices are so similar that it’s easy to overlook. It was a perfect giveaway hidden in plain sight.
On point my friend, I was not expecting Odin to be Tyr in disguise. Like you said the voices sound similar and my first thought was damn for a big guy like Tyr he has a soft voice but didn't think much of it. Smart move by the devs.
A hint for me was Tyr's love for cooking and Odin going "Is this braised?" randomly while showing Atreus around in Asgard. Like, why's this dude of all things interested in cooking techniques. Turns out, it was a dead giveaway.
It's interesting how Brock of all of them (Mimir included) quickly deduced that "Tyr's" story and plan and overall statements weren't adding up. Does beg the question why no one else noticed those questionable stuff....including the smartest man in the 9 realms?
(Not really sure) I feel like the reason why they can't sense Odin's lies is because mostly everyone looks up to his disguise, Tyr. Remember that Tyr is super smart and humble. Also, he has the "I got tortured for super long and now I'm depressed." Card when he got brought back from the cave.
I can imagine only about 1 in 1000 players notice this (I certainly didn't), but there's a brilliant little clue they leave you to notice Odin's falseness before the reveal. Whenever Odin is talking, the subtitles say that "Tyr" is speaking, but whenever the other characters who think it's Týr say his name, and when you meet the real Týr post game, the subtitles read "Týr". The lack of the accent on the y denotes that it isn't the real Týr.
Bro after broks death I had to go to work, but once I got off, I damn near went above the speed limit on the drive back home cause I was unbelievably ready to get revenge for brok.
4:18 “let go of the boy and face me” you can really feel how angered Freya is. That’s a simple line but top acting. Danielle Bisutti deserves an award.
Yep. And to think that she would finally see tyr again only to find out it was Odin all that time. If I were in her position, I would totally be angry at Odin for fooling me.
Something I noticed that I think truly symbolizes their broken friendship is Sindri stopped hiding his trick of vanishing and traveling through realms, at first he did it when they weren’t looking to poke a little fun at them but now he just doesn’t care 😢
I love this entire scene, from Brok's soul-crushing death, to Kratos' quick thinking and perfect aiming with his spear on 5:20, allowing his allies to keep the mask and leaving Odin with only one spiteful victory. Unfortunately, Brok still had to pay the price :(
@The Gamer that’s plot convenience not plot armour, but I think it’s neither. He actually teleports really quick here he just decided to hold off so he can say his line to rub salt in the wound
For me personally i think sindri hates Kratos and Atreys because like he said they kept taking and taking but not really valuing his friendship. Brok dying was the last straw really. You start to notice rifts starting to appear when atreus hits sindri in bear form
Brok pointing out how Atreus earned the mask is a true friend. I loved that dialogue. A true friend will stick up for your accomplishments to be sure you get all the credit. Brok was willing to die for all of them.
Same when Atreus first returned home from Asgard, when the house was under attack. Sindri was(understandably) less than happy to see him, but Brok was thrilled that he was back.
@Hunter Thompson Sindri was also the one facing getting hurt more than Brok. He was resentful that he kept giving and they wouldn't even listen to him. Even Kratos preferred Brok over him, even though Sindri gave and gave and gave. Kratos didn't really feel bad until after Brok died and he finally came to reason that not just one, but both of the two people who helped him the most were gone. He's lucky Lunda is horny for him, or else he wouldn't have anybody to use and craft for him. You notice his change. He says thank you more. He tells Lunda it's okay for her to compliment him, when before he was uncomfortable by it. And this really only began either a little before Brok died or soon after. It's the first time he's shown a great deal of emotion other than rage and contempt. That's why using a charming, conniving Odin as a mirror was so good because It's really hard not to trust Odin if nobody else is telling you how much harm he's caused. Odin was charismatic evil. Kratos is chaotic good. I understand Sindri because it's really hard to ever come out of that grief when you lose someone who meant the world to you. You will burn bridges. Sindri is just lucky that he can cause more chaos for Kratos, and Kratos would understand why. But Kratos was also in that situation. Most people so easily see your loss and tell you to move on and let go, but when your heart is eating you from the inside out, those words only eat your brain from inside out, and all you can think of is revenge, resentment, and/or death. It's why I hold such a strong thick skull because I've put up with a lot of abuse, and my only question is, "Why?" I want to understand the other person and why they act that way. And try to explain how they hurt me and how I see it from my perspective. I've been just as hostile as Sindri before. But knowing who will accept your pain and forgive you are the real GOOD people in life. But these undertones will go over most people's heads, guaranteed because most people don't want to recognize their own wrongs, but also understand why some people are chaotic mentally. There's very few things a person could do to make me absolutely despise you and want you gone. Otherwise, I'll be trying to understand the intent behind them as a way to show a respect for reciprocation. I haven't played the post game, but I really hope they make subtle details about Kratos and Freya keeping Sindri's home tidy. Doing something for him that he could respect. It's his home that he brought them into. The least they could do is keep it clean for him.
7:21 Kratos knows this part of the story... people he cares about die, seek revenge, kill gods and the same tragic story that haunts him every day. "This is over, I'm done"
During his discussion about the Mask, Kratos gives a reasonable and fair case of why using the Mask is potentially dangerous, saying that it's very risky to use something that promises such easy answers. I love that even after that, he still trust Atreus with it since he found it and that he trust his judgement on the matter, even in the end too.
It also explains why Odin lost his eye. He tried getting a direct peek into the crack of knowledge and paid the price for attempting to take the shortcut.
@@blank4142 Mimir says that Odin actually lost his eye by plucking it out after getting wasted on shrooms that he gave Odin. He just tells Atreus the whole tear in reality thing to hide his shame that he was outsmarted.
Brok was easily my favorite character. Hardened, tough and ball busting personality with out of this world talents. Unmatched reliability and loyalty but put up with no bull crap, and always spoke his truth. This part in the story was heart breaking
The worst part is that Brok won't go to any type of afterlife as his soul is fractured. I think Sindri is mad, but also feels remorse knowing thet he doomed his brother for eternity.
This scene was such a rollercoaster. The way that Brok forgives Sindri is spoken as a person who doesn't want to leave without any regrets and deeply loves his brother. The way Sindri pleadingly says his name one last time and whispers "I love you..." under his breath. I missed it the first time but on subsequent watches, but it really adds another layer to how they care for each other. The musical motif that was added really slams home the tragedy and pain that is felt, and the reprise of it when they visit Sindri in the temple reinforces it. He wears the blood of his brother on his armor as a way to remember him, and a memento of the vengeance he now seeks for his death. Overall one of the two most emotional scenes in the entire game, and an absolute masterclass in storytelling and execution.
The use of music in this scene is great. First, when “Tyr” finally decides to step up and join the fight the music sounds inspirational like you’d expect from a hero’s motivational speech, but it all goes silent when Brok questions this convenient way into Asgard he never mentioned till now. After that, the music has this air of tension that “Tyr” brushes off and steers the conversation back to the plan of sneaking into Asgard, using the mask and defeating Odin. The music here sounds adventurous as everyone is getting pumped for what could be their final mission to putting an end to all this. Then, Brok interrupts again, causing the music to stop again and the tense music returns as he isn’t satisfied with “Tyr’s” excuse about the way into Asgard. This time the tense music grows as he starts questioning everything “Tyr” says and forces him into a corner and it reaches that high point with the stab and the twist and the music continues to be powerful and suspenseful throughout the hostage situation.
And it more or less crescendos when they drive off Odin and recover the mask only to go silent again before Brok's last moments then the music enters a mournful tone as Brok forgives Sindri for what he did and tells him to let go. Finally the music is this semi low tone to indicate that the hero's want to take the fight to Odin, but Kratos just feels defeated at this moment that storming Asgard is the furthest thought from his mind, only Atreus matters to him now.
in the span of about 4 minutes, so much happened. -tyr was revealed to be odin (deception) -brok was killed off -odin declared war -kratos declared that his part (and also Atreus') in all of this was over 4. minutes. what a truly special game this is.
@@anotherhappylanding4746 that’s exactly what I think he was doing what’s strange to me is how they never noticed he was gone…there was always someone at sindri’s house
I thought my game bugged when Sindri and Brok shifted to Midgard, I was like uh.. no way my game is bugging for the first time at one of the most emotional scenes.
I just realized the music that starts at 5:57 is the just a lower, deeper rendition of the Huldra Brothers theme that's originally upbeat... the atmosphere and emotions this game creates is one of the best I've ever witnessed.
Ah, Brok. From our first shared moments to our last, the bastard was always direct and honest, and had the mouth of a drunk sailor pissing into the Midgard lake. It was his blunt, crude attitude that brought Atreus’ deeds up while calling out Odin’s, the *all-father’s,* bullshit. Think on that, _he ousted and outsmarted arguably the most powerful being in the Nine Realms._ Respect to you and your giant blue sac, brother. You will not be forgotten.
4:55 the voice acting here is spot on! Boiling with anger and the urge to tear that god away but also wants to protect his son. If Odin laid a hand on him here, man, I can only imagine.
@@gururu1286 don't forget he's also responsible on his brother's death by helping atreus find tyr. So he's right that Sindi has no right to hate Atreus.
Finished the game yesterday and when I came to this scene my jaw legit *dropped* I’ve never felt so confused, betrayed and hurt at the same time. I even shed a few tears for my favorite cursing blue dwarf. Man I’m gonna miss Brok
The way the rest of the room disappears during his final words, the way sindri whispers an "i love you" under his breath through his cries is so good. This being the first time we get to see the dwarves magic with our own eyes was the cherry on top
The saddest part about his death for me is when you go to meet sindri afterwards, Mimir mentions to Atreus after being asked if they can bring him back, that brok being revived by sindri took a apart of his soul, and now that he’s died again, not only is he dead, but he’s been denied any form of after life. The first thing I did before this scene was upgrade like every piece of my armor. Broks last action on my playthrough was working his magic on my equipment. Awesome.
what gets me about the scene is Atreus's pose after Sindri took Brok's body. Aside from the sadness, His shoulders are hunched close and his head is sunk in between them. Thats the posture of shame or guilt. That poor guy knew what else Odin's attack meant long before anyone else thought about it or said it outloud, or before Sindri blamed him for it. Kratos also seems to have picked up on that quickly, too.

Damn that mf was right don’t every spoil a game on its release date again fam cuz thats a prick move
This guy is very humble 🤓
The point where Brok say "I know what you've done, and I forgive you' shows the unimaginable levels of Brok's capacity to love. A legendary blacksmith with an enormous heart.
can’t forget the iconic random “s“ at the end of “forgive”
Was resurrecting him really such a big cross? Even if he lost a part of his soul he seemed to function normally.
@@resentfulsidecharacter3713 Yeah. True. I guess it got something to do with the form. His form changed in the process of being resurrected. He was brought back to life at a cost.
@@Wanderlust_Sal I thought that whole journey with Brok was about how it wasn't about the "form" of things, but it's "essence".
What’s ironic is Sindri does flip a switch and isn’t a coward/isn’t clean at the end
@@chompions06 but Sindri went through a big traumatic event, "Tyr" just switched
@@utopian4769 Exactly. Brok says what he thinks, regardless of who it offends. Which is why he was the only one to call ‘Tyr’ out on his bullshit.
@jvclemente9632 ah finally a quote that describes my life
If you think about it, it actually makes a *lot* of sense why Brok of all people caught on to Odin’s deception. He was a straight thinker, no nonsense type of guy who relied on his gut rather than his mind, and by doing that, he saved all the 9 realms in the process
And his scrote
He listened to his scrote too
Except himself which is the sad part
Another brilliant aspect of this twist is Kratos himself. Kratos, in the beginning, instantly sees through Odin's bs "peace" offering. He clearly is good at this stuff, but Tyr thing was different for one big reason - Kratos wanted him to be right. Tyr being a guy who didn't want war or Ragnarok was exactly what Kratos needed, so he fell for the deception. He so desperately wanted to avoid fighting that Odin used that to his advantage.
@@brucesnow7125 and that Tyr was also a god of war like he was.
@@professionalidiot4987 Yes but a god of war who stood for peace unlike kratos.
I love despite being the manipulative mastermind Odin is, as soon as he got his hands on the mask, his great scheme and tricky nature gave itself away immediately as he got excited and impatient, therefore, sloppy. And Brock saw right through his bullshit. Brilliant writing.

This also explains why Odin was so chill about letting Atreus leave Asgard anytime he wants, because he always had eyes on him in Sindri's house. He also didn't want Atreus to take Ingrid outside of Asgard because Ingrid would make her way back to Freyr.
Imagine if Ingrid went back to sindri’s house with Atreus it would be a heartfelt reunion for Freyr
Shit! I did not realize that. Awesome analysis.
He tries to make Asgard like a safe and comfortable place for Atreus while also making sure Atreus feels trap and torment in Sindri home

I would've liked to see Kratos team up with Thor vs Odin since he was gonna kill Thor anyway.

(Holy Hel! 3500 likes! )The Odin reveal makes a second playthrough so satisfying.

@@Filosofia897 But the mask can only be used by Loki, so it wouldn't have been his smoking gun.
Some of the hints we were given about his identity:
- Kratos cutting Tyr's rope when they saved him.

Brok doesn't just die with nothing. He died for Kratos and the others, because he cares about them, and to return the favor, they avenged Brok's death by unleashing Ragnarök upon Asgard.
"Now we kill Odin and anyone who gets in our way."
I think this line from Freya is why Kratos wanted to leave with Atreus. He knew exactly what would happen if they went on a rampage in Asgard, killing everyone just to get to Odin, like how Kratos destroyed Greece for his revenge against Zeus. Wise old man Kratos, he is.
I don't know about that,Kratos like everybody else was bloodthirsty,HELL they came more prepared because of what Odin did bringing the people of vannaheim,
the valkaries, draugr from musphelheim,Ragnarok itself,The entire army of hell,Elfs (and probably ancients since they seem to be with the elfs) just to go and face down Odin. And mind you they originally planned on just getting Ragnarok and if not for SIndri they would have gotten the Dwarves aswell

That’s usually his thing, the guy isn’t really Zeus and Loki was pretty much a looney toons antagonist instead of just satan but Norse
Tyr was being such a wimp all the time, something always seemed wrong
Both are really the Trickers in Mythology
Will say Brok being the only one to figure out is oddly plausible given the circumstances:
- He didn’t know Tyr was Odin, just that something was odd, and he’s always been this direct; he insults and calls-out gods on the regular
- Everyone else greatly looked up to Tyr, that and his imprisonment explained some of his changes, basically they respected him too much to question as much.
- Tyr’s location was given/hinted by the giants, not Odin, so the group had a non-Odin source to trust
- The only real dramatic shift in Tyr’s character was when the mask was complete.

Brock has Ash helping him
(Not really sure) I feel like the reason why they can't sense Odin's lies is because mostly everyone looks up to his disguise, Tyr. Remember that Tyr is super smart and humble. Also, he has the "I got tortured for super long and now I'm depressed." Card when he got brought back from the cave.
@@benfrank9622 yeah I think mimir the smartest head alive assumed that Tyr is not the same person he once knew
Because Mimir was too trusting which made him blind while Brok is well... Very critic lets say
@@BlackPrince24 He was always a pretty direct person. I think that's what Sindri likes and hates in his brother.
I just love how much Kratos not only loves Atreus, but respects him. Handing the mask, making him the leader. Truly amazing how far he’s come!
3:03 Brok already with that pose behind, not falling to Tyr's bullshit, gotta love him
Lmao
I can imagine only about 1 in 1000 players notice this (I certainly didn't), but there's a brilliant little clue they leave you to notice Odin's falseness before the reveal. Whenever Odin is talking, the subtitles say that "Tyr" is speaking, but whenever the other characters who think it's Týr say his name, and when you meet the real Týr post game, the subtitles read "Týr". The lack of the accent on the y denotes that it isn't the real Týr.
Wow
I knew I wasn’t crazy! I noticed that but assumed it was just an overlooked detail! That’s insane
Broks death had me sobbing all the way to the final battle. My heart just broke.
Me too. But it encouraged me to fuck Odin up. I was ready to fight.
Bro after broks death I had to go to work, but once I got off, I damn near went above the speed limit on the drive back home cause I was unbelievably ready to get revenge for brok.
@Brian King-hayot did u attend his funeral yet?
@@chojthoj08 I did and I gotta tell ya, the tears didn’t stop flowing. The credits song made it worse😢
This scene was an absolute gut punch. Thor, too, to a lesser extent.
4:56 You can literally feel Kratos is trying so hard to hold back his rage here
“I regret many things, killing you will not be one of them.” Is actually such a hard line.
She's better than Kratos for me

Something I noticed that I think truly symbolizes their broken friendship is Sindri stopped hiding his trick of vanishing and traveling through realms, at first he did it when they weren’t looking to poke a little fun at them but now he just doesn’t care 😢
I love this entire scene, from Brok's soul-crushing death, to Kratos' quick thinking and perfect aiming with his spear on 5:20, allowing his allies to keep the mask and leaving Odin with only one spiteful victory. Unfortunately, Brok still had to pay the price :(

RIP to my favorite character in GOW, you will be missed, Brock. Thanks for the good times 😢

Never in my life would I say that brok outsmarted everyone in this moment realising that it was a fake Tyr
@@blank4142
Mimir says that Odin actually lost his eye by plucking it out after getting wasted on shrooms that he gave Odin.
"I regret many things, killing you will not be one of them."
Christopher Judge delivered that line so coldly and amazingly.
The music is stupendous
in the span of about 4 minutes, so much happened.
-tyr was revealed to be odin (deception)
-brok was killed off
-odin declared war
-kratos declared that his part (and also Atreus') in all of this was over
4. minutes.

Well they deceived Odin first...brok said they stole something back from Odin lmao and then Odin thought it was mimir who did it.
The fact that Brok started connecting dots really stuck with me I love this game it’s so many small details that paint a big picture

After this part… it’s literally a darker tone until after the war at Asgard… this game hit all the feels
Brok really help them all, unfortunately he died what a savior
Think on that, _he ousted and outsmarted arguably the most powerful being in the Nine Realms._

3:17 "He (Odin) does hate surprises," - Odin, moments before being surprised
The saddest part about his death for me is when you go to meet sindri afterwards, Mimir mentions to Atreus after being asked if they can bring him back, that brok being revived by sindri took a apart of his soul, and now that he’s died again, not only is he dead, but he’s been denied any form of after life.
The first thing I did before this scene was upgrade like every piece of my armor. Broks last action on my playthrough was working his magic on my equipment. Awesome.
Great voice acting from Judge. I love how Kratos forces himself to (kinda) stay calm while growling, "Release my son!!"
Damn Brok is smart. As the kids say these days(maybe), he knew Tyr was sus and spotted the imposter.
Omg you really said that.
Weeks later and my heart still hurts
what gets me about the scene is Atreus's pose after Sindri took Brok's body.
