My sister and I tag teamed this one summer back in the day. We would get mad at it, pause it, turn off the TV then come back later. After two or three days we beat both loops. The stage 6 trick on the right side of the screen for the double satans would have saved us sooooo much frustration. Toughest NES game we ever played.
That's awesome! My brother and I tried, for maybe a week, to complete the SNES one, but we never made it past the level after the ghost-ship. Congrats on your victory!
@RedSpade37 I could make it to the end of super ghouls n ghosts but I was always too drained to do the whole thing twice so I've never beaten it 'correctly'.
I did it!! I followed this video down to the letter, and completely beat Ghosts n Goblins, thank you so much. :) It was a ton of fun, even if I needed some help from suspend points lmao. Great vid! I love the concept you have here.
That's awesome!!! Thanks for reporting back, I LOVE hearing when someone is able to beat a game after watching one of my videos. More than any other factor, THIS is what makes me feel like the channel is successful!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames I'm so glad!! :) Look forward to hearing more from me, as like many people, I've always enjoyed these older games, but have never had the patience for them. I haven't decided which game I was beat next, but with your help, I know whatever I pick won't be a problem.
As a kid in the 80s I don't think I ever made it past the second level. NES games were hard, but this one was exceptionally harder than anything else I had played. Almost 20 years later I tried to beat it again on an emulator using save states, only to fail; between dodging hammers and fireballs from the 5th(?) boss I was making saves every dodge. What I didn't realize is that I save-stated myself into a corner, as I didn't consider that the timer was about to run out until it was too late. That was 15 years ago. I haven't touched this game with the intention to beat it since.
This and the snes one were probably the 2 most brutal games I've played . Dracula x is close but gng is actually programed against you so if you dodge left it it spawns stuff there.
7:05 The easiest way to beat the Red Devil for novice players and kids is to hit it, then dodge its first charge and IMMEDIATELY sit on the ground and stay there. The Red Devil will gently descend onto the ground and walk on the ground a bit before heading back up into the air. This is the perfect way to kill him quickly and usually headache free.
I found this out completely on my own and it works most of the time. Disagree that it's for novices and kids, but it's really helpful to anyone having trouble (like I did at first)
Good to know that there's a consistent way to spawn the knife; I got stuck with the torch at the very beginning, and didn't get another weapon to drop until I got the shield toward the end, so I was stuck with it for most of the run.
Hey there! Just wanted to let you know, your content is my new favorite "up-and-coming" channel! This video could have been posted a decade ago, and I wouldn't have bat an eye! I *adore* the retro flavor, of both the content and the presentation! Thanks again!
arthur has made many appearances in numerous games , one of the lesser remembered is his playable role in Cannon Spike /Gun spike on dreamcast and arcade where he pilots a golden mech suit based off his super armour , complete with a massive lance!
Love this game! I finished it back when I was a kid. Yes btw there is a difference between Satan and Lucifer. Both can be used to refer to the same being. Satan means adversary. Lucifer means light bearer and was the original named of the angel. He was once a servant of God until he became corrupted by his own vanity. Loved the game and the commentary.
in case you didn't know, the mame arcade version doesn't let you continue. hold either and press, 2 players start button and button 2. use tab to change setting
You had me rolling during the introduction!! "Let's see here...demons, devils, skeletons, literal Satan....nope, no goblins.." 😂😂 Man, I love your videos.
I don't listen to the game play, but your intros are always awesome. I appreciate your family friendly presentation a lot. That's a dying thing online.
Love your channel! I bought a nintendo classic a few years ago mostly just for the mario bros games.. but I gave some old favorites a shot & died sooner than I did as a kid. With your help I've successfully conquered Castlevania for the first time ever & am currently halfway through Kid Icarus. Not sure I have the balls/wits/patience for Ghosts & Goblins but maybe one day! Cheers!
Thank you for this. This is a really in depth explanation and a lot easier to understand than a lot of other videos. This is really easy for my ADHD brain to understand. The little windows are EXTREMELY helpful for taking notes. This is organized extremely well, and is very helpful.
I remember the day I bought this. My grandmother gave me the keys to the video game section at Toys 'R'' Us and let me pick out any game I wanted. I thought this cover art for this game was pretty cool. I was 6 years old and really had no idea how to pick out a game yet. I took this home and struggled with it, obviously. A year later and I never got passed level 2. I ended up getting the Nintendo joystick a little later. It had all the turbo button settings on it. Even the pause button had turbo and I noticed nothing popped up on the screen, no "pause" or anything, and you could basically play the game in slow motion. I got a little bit further that way but still didn't even come close to beating it. Game was brutal.
That fucking game. When i finally, after many many hours, reached the endboss, a roomemate walked by and accidentally pulled the power cord. She flew out the window and the NES right behind her!
i really love how you showed maximo because i swear when i heard the music for the first level of maximo i stoped playing jus to go back and play the classics
I watched this around the time it was released. I came back today to get some strats for an upcoming run im working on and although still a great video ur quality has really really improved. Keep up the great work. Top tier channel right here folks!
Very nice video. I started getting into the Ghost N Goblins games back in High School and managed to beat all the games at the time, this version and the arcade games via Capcom Classics Collection for ps2. Beating them two times legit is enough for me 🤣 Definitely one of the hardest series of games I've ever played
Thanks for the help. I have never completed the 3rd stage until watching your video. The Red Devil trick in the blue caverns is amazing. That makes a big difference. GREAT videos btw. I ended up finding this one after watching 5-6 others. Really well put together. Keep it up!
The only use for the torch in this game is very surprising. Its VERY effective against Red Devils, in the blue cavern. Which are the Bane of my existence playing this game.
That makes sense! I just try to mostly avoid those guys. Couldn't get past that part as a kid, although beating Stage 2 still felt like an achievement.
Before my sister bought me a nes in 85 or 86, we rented a nes from the rental store and this game. It was my first nintendo game ever when we bought it later that week with the standard light gun super system.
9:01 Usually, if you respawn in the Ghost Town... when you get this point, you can just go up the ladder without doing anything to the Big Man on the floor.
One of the toughest and most unforgiving NES games of all time... but with those tricks it can be taken down a few notches. LOL i love the sped up part near the end...... on .5 speed it's still pretty fast!
This game was made to be hard, and they did not fail! Glad you enjoyed the super fast part, I think I sped it up 4x so, on .5 it would still be double time.
Great video, this is one of my favorite NES games. I noticed you missed a few secrets but that's ok, just a 1-up in the beginning of level 2 if you go to the platform up above the start and jump down and a frog king if you jump left off of the first grave stone on the upper area in the grave yard. I learned a few thing, I didn't expect that: The duck trick on the moving platforms and the trick with the double devils taking them out on the right side.
One of the few games that i tried so hard to beat but gave up. The little devil trick where you run away would maybe have made a difference for me but one day I'll try and beat it myself. lol Great video.
After beating the game twice, try playing for a third play through. You won't BELIEVE how hard the game becomes!! Only do this on the Nintendo Wii so your game can be stopped and picked up later on. Tell me your experiences.
I just started watching your videos so I wanted to leave this comment on the first one. I really enjoy your commentary you have a Bob Ross feel about you. Keep up the good work!
Wow. You made this seem easy. I've never gotten past level 2. I owned it played it a ton as a kid. So many rage quits and the fact that you had to beat it twice was the ultimate troll to gamers.

I just found your channel the other day. Gotta say I'm loving it. I've never beaten this game fully or battletoads but with this knowledge I just gained from you I think it's time to go back. Keep up the great content!
I just beat this game... no where NEAR as easily as you did. But I got so frustrated in level 6. Once I lost the knife I became too lazy to farm. So i just kept grabbing the javelin, sometimes take a hit, sometimes kill the unicorn quick. then kill the dragon. Then grab the shield. I honestly find the last few rows easier with the shield. For example, the red devil to the right, if i accidentally shoot an extra projectile to kill the big guy, I wouldn't hit activate him, which was nice. The shield kills everything as well as the knife too, so I didn't feel like I was losing attack besides the first unicorn. But the unavoidable red devil crushed me. My strategy was to get him to the left of the screen and wait for him to dance towards me and kill him that way. But sometimes a ghost would pop in to ruin the strategy. But eventually I beat both loops... and now I never have to play again .
I loved Uninvited. My buddy and I ended up having to call the Nintendo Hotline because we couldn't figure out one of the puzzle combos. We ended up having to restart the game, but we beat it.
In the graveyard.. you can proceed to just before the red devil and wait until the time reaches the 1 minute range. The first zombie with a basket will drop the knife. No need to die to get it.
You know I always thought it was silly to call the first boss Unicorn as a kid. But after I got older and learned the it only really means “one horn” and really has nothing to do with being equestrian, it makes more sense now.

Dragons in 5 hits? That's odd I remember them with 8hp. May be version difference or something I had the japanese one back then. Also if you pick the key in either stage 5 or 6 while being on the ladder you can move to the lower floor and start a slow level wrap up, you eventually go throught the floor and see a lot of glitchy graphics but it eventually ends like normal when you line up with the door. It serves no purpose but its something interesting to see and eventually end instead of getting a crash like you would normally expect.
honestly... who remebers Monster Party before the internet? noone. no lies... ive gotten into arguments with people at parties about making up games... Rygar. Trojin. Lone Ranger. everyone called bullshit now those are the 'nes gems'.
I think this game traumatized me. I beat it a couple years back and I didn't play another hard game for awhile. This game gave me more trouble than Battletoads, Hagne or Actraiser 2. I wish I would have known that strat for disapeering the red devils. Great video.
Of course, I remember a comedian who has a Japanese mother who once thought that the word "graze" meant a donut of some kind. So I suppose that the Japanese get it wrong from time to time with the rendering or spelling of some English words. Still sounds funny nonetheless.
My sister and I tag teamed this one summer back in the day. We would get mad at it, pause it, turn off the TV then come back later. After two or three days we beat both loops. I never really thought about how uncensored this game was compared to everything else on the NES 🤔
Well, they did change the Cross to a Shield, but it was that way in the US arcade version too.
4:44 The castle on the mountain in the background kind of looks like the castle in Resident Evil VIIIage; another Capcom game.
