Honestly, even if this WAS cheaper than the RGB30 (let’s say, $40 vs $50), would ANYONE find this to be a good bargain? I know some people are gonna say “$10 is 10 dollars”, but who can realistically afford $40, but can’t wait ONE more paycheck and pay $50 for something far better instead? Like, it’s just retro games; you’re not gonna STARVE if you have to wait one or two more weeks for your device.
Right? I was trying to figure out the best way to express the exact way I felt, and I thought "this is like when you have the P Trap off and the galvanized steel just falls apart in your hand and you start swearing because the 30 minute fix is now going to result in the third trip to Home Depot today and that smug old man by the paint mixer is going to give you a look and there's nothing you can do about it because he was right when he said you should get the complete set instead of just the partial repair kit."
R36S remains the KING These units do not turn on when battery is low, R36S is the same. They wont show ANYTHING, you need to leave it plugged in for an hour before you try turning them on and use its OWN USBC cable. They dont charge with other cables. When you push the button it goes to sleep and drains the battery, you need to go in the menu and actually shut it down.
Obvious downside to that 'fix' would be that if you have an rgb30 then there would be no point in the downgrade to this ewaste, the rgb30 already fills that niche of 1:1 that should have nicer surrounding components.
The Thumb stick location alone was reason enough for me to not want to buy that thing but then add all the other issues I am glad I was not tempted by this thing and got a rgb30 for like $60 several weeks back instead.
Interesting to see tssues with that, I have the R40s gameboy style handheld that has been working fine besides having to remap some hotkeys. Dpad and buttons function good as well. Makes me wonder if all the R40s is produced by the same people
Actually Powkiddys last 5-6 devices have been pretty good value for your money. I love the x28. Easy the best t618 based device for me with a great display and it really can take a beating. I bought one the first ones and it regularly gets tossed in my bag without any protection and I use it as guinea pig to try every new emulator before doing a clean install on my Odin.
A lot of the lower quality and affordable handhelds cant be charged with a fast charger, it makes em get all weird and sometimes it even bricks them. Gotta get an old charger or something. Idk if that's whats happening here, but it does happen
NOT what's happening here. I have a slow charger at my desk specifically because of what you said. I had to reseat my 505 battery a couple of times after accidentally using a fast charger, so now I have them color coded at my work area 😂
@@xw8462 I dont. There is a difference between made in China, and Chinese companies knocking off and copying products and calling the Mikes instead of Nikes. There is a difference, especially in quality. As you can see in this knockoff of a knockoff.
I have a similar thought process on this handheld. Perhaps we'll see a r41s that fixes a lot of the stuff and actually presents a similar outcome to the RGB 30 at a reduced price. For now I agree this is not a unit worth purchasing
My RGB30 doesn't always boot either and reseating the sd card usually gets it going. I think it's actually an ArkOS bug because I didn't have that problem with JelOS. I prefer ArkOS for a bunch of other reasons. I'm excited for the RG Cube even though I'm not happy it's android. I love the form factor.
Just who was managing the software side in the company? I'm genuinely curious as to who actually went in to do the bare minimal modification of ArkOS - just the splash screens - and I wonder if that person was paid any amount of money or was doing it on the side while doing some other random things that the "company" apparently does. What is it even LIKE working NOT on the assembly lines, for the low LOW end of the handheld making totem pole that rests 99.9 percent on manufacturing.
This video reminds me of the time "Car and Driver" reviewed an Opel Kadette wagon. I wasn't alive for it; but, they'd reprinted the article for their 50th anniversary. Apparently the little car had minimal redeeming value; just like the Boyham R40. At least the screen looks nice.
Why do they go though the effort of developing and manufacturing such a device if its gonna be so crap? Surely they wont sell enough to get their roi if the product is so bad.
Still feels lije powkiddy is behind ambernic and retrioid in terms of quality and design...that said i have yet to find a perfect device and have a pile of them now
This device is nuts, I knew it. This device is all drama, that build quality is pretty undesirable. But the batt is fully dead😱 Yes that makes sence, the SD card is the issue, I have had that happen to me, also when you remove the SD and leave the slot empty, it will not run on. Must be a lot of Linux thing 🤔 I will say I'm warming up to the 1x1 ratio with the RG Cube. Sorry you had this experience bro, we appreciate you 👍🏾
No, no no. Come on. Don't call this a "review", because it's not. Every single thing you say about this handheld is extremely negative, some of which doesn't make sense at all. You didn't bother to charge it before reviewing it then faffed about acting like it was broken because of that. You claimed that disassembling the unit made the shoulder buttons work better despite not having played it at all before you took it apart. You call the dpad sloppy, when we can SEE that Soma's sprite in AoS acts perfectly well. You didn't even bother to really review the unit, and the parts you DID bother to turn on, you stuck at the end of the video, and whined about every little thing you could. The problem now is that who knows if this is a bad device or not? You can't be trusted with it, and seemed to have a weird grudge against the thing from the second the video started. You don't offer any insight on what might be good about the thing, and act as though you're on the way to toss the thing into a volcano in Mordor. The screen looks pretty nice? Does this run PS1 games? How well? WHO KNOWS? Just call it a funtime takedown video or something. Don't assume credibility then waste it.
"Better build quality than Boyham " -Powkiddy's new tag line
In my country this little thing is expensive than the original RGB30 lmao. Thanks for that video buddy
You have to own a different handheld in order to get this one to work. That's gotta be a first.

FAX TBH
Thank You!!!
If it's more powerful than the r36s but FAR MORE FLAKY than the already kinda flaky r36s, run away with your r36s fast and never return.
if it were $30 then **$20 is $20** 💀 ykyk

Nice change of pace to watch a Retro Handhelds video and not want to spend money.

😅😅😅
The off-center B too... 😬

Even the link to buy it on Aliexpress is busted.
R36s had similar black screen issues when using the wrong display drivers, maybe that will be case here as well?

This is my worst nightmare. I get masive anxiety everytime i buy a handheld.
Oof, you just removed the veil and 😢
This makes my RGB30 look like a "high-quality" device! 💚
It's worse than Powkiddy. That's new for me! lol
NGL Powkiddy needs some love. I'm going to do a full assessment of some of their recent Handhelds.

Love the video Zu, that damned console almost gave you a nervous breakdown. It was kinda funny to hear the frustration in your voice though. 😁😁😁
And this thing is more expensive than RG35XX H. R36S was fine, i dont know how they messed this up
Love my green RGB30 - got it mainly for Pico-8. Not too sure about this newer one though.
Didn’t they do the m17-m19?

Saved me some money lol I appreciate the video!
I would 100% agree i have this one it's frustrating rgb30 for 50 usd if you can find it.
This is like a cover song by a band that's much worse than the original band.
This is Fall Out Boy's version of "We Didn't Start the Fire".

Just WOW!
when it’s knocking off a poorly made product, you know the quality’s gonna be amazing
This device is not Digitizer approved.. pass😂.. Pooooooowkiddy!!!❤
I'm guessing this is the same company behind the R36S. That's a nice cheap capable system. This new one looks bloody awful.
MFer spititn fire! 🔥🔥🔥
Dad plumbing. lol.
Gameboy aspect ratio is 10:9, not 1:1. Thanks for sharing this weird, awful clone handheld.
I would rather buy the new Anbernic rg cube over any of them.
The joystick on top immediately kills this thing for me. Thanks zu! 🙂
The RGB30 certainly has its flaws, But clearly its the better of these 2 devices by a mile.
Wrong colour, false advertising
I have no clue why I purchased this thing. I’m having a tough time getting a refund.
Omg 😂 this was the funniest video I ever seen. And full of frustrations. Lol. And that was the most awful device I’ve ever seen. Hahaha.
RGB30 is better overall, I love mine.
This is some high quality hot garbage. Wow.
The Gameboy and Gameboy color games are not 1:1, they are 160x144, so 10:9 aspect ratio.
This screen looks terrible
Can we get a review not a shit piece?
