Yess, he also did something psychologically subtle to drive across his point- he bent lower than the man. He got into a vulnerable position. He lowered himself below the man, to make him feel he's harmless, a friend, and someone he can trust, while still holding a strong stance. Adults often do this with children when they went to get on their level. Glad someone noticed this too.

In the books, it was in this scene that Paul mourns his friendship with Stilgar. He finds it lonely how easily his friend was instantly transformed into a religious fanatic. Heavier Bardem portrayed it really well. I just wish that he wasn't so 'all in' throughout the film, to emphasise the moment in this scene. But I understand the need to juxtapose his fanaticism with Chani's skepticism in this film. Chani isn't such a skeptic in the books. In fact, she's in favour of Paul's marriage and to Irulan in the book. But I understand that they needed a vehicle to make the viewers ponder the idea that this 'prophecy' was just manufactured to control them. It elevates it from a simple 'chosen one' trope to a more sophisticated commentary on more advanced or powerful societies using knowledge and superstition to take advantage of smaller communities. Brilliant premise and brilliant adaptation.

Or how the whole MAGA movement continues to draw -suckers- people in.
Honestly, this isn’t political rage bait, but a genuine assessment of one of the major themes of the movie; how some group plants a seed that can grow into such cult-like fervor and zealotry when stoked properly. This movie will be seen as a warning sign years down the line (much like the books were).

Nothing against anyone who practices those religions without infringing their belief system on others, BTW. It's nice when people can openly practice their religion without angrily forcing others to do the same, but I digress. Back to the point. Yeah, your point is valid. It applies to any cult that can be weaponised. It's a cycle that humanity is all too familiar with. Our only hope is that our newest fanaticism is focused around universal rights for humanity.

This scene in the movie theaters gave me CHILLS, and even my eyes became a little watery. It was a powerful moment.
For an instance, I felt what it may have been for a fremen, after a lifetime of faith, doubt, hope, and battle, to finally come face to face with, and hear the voice of, the mahdi.
    Fear the moment.
I was raised by a very faithful Catholic mother to whom Christ was everything, someone who tries her best to pass on her faith to a son that was raised within a very different world than her, a modern world, multicultural, materialist, and nihilistic; so for me, this scene communicated what it may feel like when one finally meets the legendary savior one's mother spoke so much about.
    Fear the moment.

Watching this scene in dolby(maybe I should've gone imax) was almost a religious experience.
Currently I'm an agnostic, and have been for some years now.
I never could profess to be an atheist or strict materialist. Philosophically and intuitively, that nihilistic worldview could never make sense to me, even as I've tried to understand it. I think perhaps metaphysical concepts were introduced to my mind at such a young age that a mystical and psychoactive inclination has been forever forged into me.
On the other hand, I could never just accept my mother's beliefs on faith alone either, she always calls me thomas, because of I remind her of his doubting in scripture. I am somewhere in the middle as I try to make sense of existence, reality, and consciousness.
But the scene still spoke to me so deeply because of my upbringing in the faith and how ingrained those concepts are. AlThe scene began to cut deep because I can still remember vividly how it felt to be a believer, to have that faith, to fight that good fight. To have that Lord, and to speak to Him day to day. To hope in Him. To long for salvation from oppression, to perceive a savior genuinely deserving of one's love. Very powerful concepts and emotions.
I love how dune wrestles with religious concepts. And I'm glad to be reminded that to be human is to wrestle with these heavy concepts of foresight, geopolitics, fate, faith, and will.

I am afraid that you are getting this scene entirely wrong. Paul Muad'Dib Atreides is not the Messiah but a very powerful & intelligent person with lots of training. He was trained by his mother, a talented Bene Gesserit. Hewas trained by Gurney Halleck & Duncan Idaho, some of the most talented fighters in the universe. He was trained by Tufir Hawat, a good mentat, & also by his father, Leto Atreides, an influencial leader, for whose death he's seeling revenge. The Fremen were clearly & deeply manipulated by political & religious powers that seek influence on resources (the Spice). Also, Paul does not lead them to Paradise. If anything, he is a dark Messiah.

    • @angelm365
      @angelm365 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

@@borskavin6395 actually, I'm not getting the scene wrong at all. I'm quite aware of dune and what the author was trying to communicate about religious and charasmatic leaders and how one should be wary of them.
The reason the scene spoke to me was out of sympathy(or empathy) towards how the southern fremen were perceiving and interpreting Paul Atreides. Because of my own background, it was relatable.
And btw, this is just one of the ways the scene spoke to me for it was quite multifaceted. But I appreciate your comment.
