    Yeah I used to hate spiders and actually have severe arachnophobia from having panic attacks when I was a kid because of bad dreams, but because of your videos I’ve actually began thinking of getting my own one! Also your videos are so informative and help me escape whenever I get really depressed, I always tune in and it helps calm my anxiety and just keeps my thoughts silent for a little bit! So yeah just wanted to say thanks and say you also help me with my anxiety and depression too! (Also changed my perspective on spiders completely)

      Denisa Chadwick you should look at getting one. I hated spiders before watching the dark den but not just spiders it's changed the way I see a lot off different bugs
      Just be careful though I've only been watching for a year and now I have 5 tarantula and 3 scorpions haha

      I love this! As a former arachnophobe I too have overcome my fears of spiders, help them out the house most times and see them with a different eye. Wanted to get one but my husband refused. Maybe one day.

      My best friend has a pretty strong arachnophobia but they refused to watch the videos :/ I was kinda hoping it could ease the way cause we are planning to move in together and I´m already googling nice tarantula set-ups xD Tried showing them a feeding video cause those are always awesome but nah. They have two cats so I also have to cat-proof the encolsure somehow, anyone got tips for that? I don´t think keeping them seperate would work and idk if they they climb stuff yet, they´re still kittens

    This actually is NOT a Lethocerus sp. giant water bug, this is a Laccotrephes sp., which belongs to a different but closely related group of true bugs commonly called "Water Scorpions".
    Care between the two groups should be pretty much the same, but as a rule of thumb I believe most water scorpions live longer and are also easier to breed than giant water bugs/toebiters. Water scorpions are also less voracious and like smaller prey items than Lethocerus.

    • @InvertebrateDude
      @InvertebrateDude 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Declan Hegge Yeah, I think there are even Laccotrephes species in Australia, as well as other genera I'm sure. :) I remember catching a Ranatra sp. here in North America, was not aggressive at all and easy to handle as well. Hopefully Petko will see this!

    As I was preparing a new enclosure for my youngest, I found a little bookscorpion yesterday. Not really scorpions, but spiders with adapted front legs, they are really cool in spite of their diminutive size. I would have filmed it, but it scurried away someplace in all of yesterdays chaos. Great video as always.

    i have seen something similar in casa grande az. my grandfather used to let the pool turn green and it was water bugs galore! lots of large and small beetles, something that looked exactly like this and some water boatmen and something that looked like an underwater stick bug. along with lots of dragonfly nymphs and may flay larva.

    Petko you need to include a waterpump/oxygen stone for some circulation, it dont have to be strong or expensive at all but to keep water quality at its best, eventhough it breathes the normal air to an extent the rest of the bug is in the water but i am sure you already knew that. I kept alot of those things when i was younger in so called "lake" aquariums.

    A water filter, bubble pump or both, should be used with water tanks to cycle the water and oxygenate the waters surface.
    The water will become toxic and deadly unless it is filtered. The surface of the water has to be moving constantly. Slow is fine but constant surface movement is very important to a healthy water system.
    Good Luck.
