- www.bugsincyberspace.com is a great source of live pet arthropods, supplies, and information! Peter and Jesse sent me some more aquatic beetles and other insects for my aquatic insect aquarium, as well as a Giant Water Bug, (Lethocerus) for a separate tank.
If you want to keep your own pet aquatic insects, a great place to start is the Aquatic Insect Starter Pack from @bugsincyberspace :

Lol, Jesse is an amazing artist but his handwriting sucks 🤣
Tropisternus water scavenger beetles.
Rus, you do such a wonderful job with these videos and I'm going to embed this video on my website. We've not yet had a chance to make a tank set up video and so your videos really help us showcase how fun and easy these pet aquatic insects are. Thank you for the service you provide to the pet bug hobby all these years!
Tropisternus, got it! 😁
Thank you for making it possible for me to keep, learn about, and spread the word about these wonderful aquatic insects!
I’m honored that you’ll be featuring this video, maybe in the future I need to make a step-by-step setup guide.
Why are you the coolest person ever???
I might very well ask you the same question!
I am mad at the government because they don’t let me have an invertebrate that don’t even kill you
I just got my beetles for my aquarium yesterday! I’ve always wanted to keep aquatic insects, but the lack of info about their care kept from acting on it. Your videos with Jesse gave me the inspiration and knowledge to finally live the dream! So thank you for the work you do on educating everyone on these wonderful critters!
Any update?
Sunburst Diving Beatles I got a week ago so nice me and the family are enjoying them they are new to me very quite thanks bugs in cyber space
A water bug tank, what an interesting idea! I look forward to following along.
I had no idea people kept these. The Giant Water Bug is a pretty formidable beastie.
Glad to see my pal the Subscribe Catfish 😊
Formidabile indeed! And yea, the catfish is back 😂
I’ve seen some giant whirlily gig beetles by my local lake.they’re pretty nice
When we were kids we’d dredge along the edges of ponds during the summer with nets hoping to catch hatchling turtles (Eastern Painted, Snappers), tadpoles & frogs, diving beetles, dragonfly larvae, fish fry, etc.. After hauling a net-full of leaves, pond plants & sediment onto the shore we’d examine it to see what we’d snagged. On their backs Giant Water Bugs look a lot like baby turtles - which you had to grab quickly before they escaped. My friend’s little brother quickly snatched up a Giant Water Bug and really regretted it when it bit him on the thumb drawing blood and a huge welt! I came close to making the same mistake myself several times however we quickly learned to closely examine what we were grabbing at! A few times I’ve seen them carrying a back-full of eggs and/or eating a large, bullfrog tadpole.
The bite is no joke! Distinguishing them from baby turtles is definitely a useful skill.
From the description and back brooding it seems like the ones you have are of the abedus genus
The giant water bug is a nightmare to me 😭 I’ve gone herping for the California Newt in a local canyon and encountered these by accident ! Terrifying to suddenly meet 🤣 the beady little black eyes are so scary
That’s fair, it is an impressive little beast!
A friend of mine caught some pond beasties for me. After watching this video, I suggested that she ship them to me in the same way, in damp moss. Unfortunately when they got here, they all died except for one tiny tiny diving beetle (or scavenger beetle?), which was so sad... She's going to try to ship some more to me tomorrow, but I'm not keeping my hopes up...
I hope they do better this time! Warm temperatures can sometimes make it difficult
Water bugs seem so cool! I’m going to to some more research on them
They are fun! Check out my in-depth livestreams on aquatic insect aquaria with Shapes in Nature as you research. 👍🏼
Epic video! Water bug aquarium is a super cool concept. Keep us updated
Will do! I have been enjoying it!
Amazing content! Would love to see the larval stages of these beetles and other insects, some larvae such as those of diving beetles injest their prey with enzymes before slurping up whats left so that'd be cool to see
Giant water bugs are awesome I have been seeing them more and more common recently they look pretty cool nice video as always 😁
I wonder if “Bugs in Cyberspace” sells the large, aquatic Fishing Spiders or Diving Spiders? I would see them frequently at local ponds as a kid but they were always too fast to catch.
I have seen them offer Dolomedes species of fishing spider in the past
Loved the video so much Rus! Your tank is amazing!
Thank you for making it possible, Jesse!
Just don't get bit by it, feels like being burned by a lit cigarette
I was bitten by a Lethocerus as a kid…not fun! Now I am much more careful when I handle Giant Water Bugs. 😂
Ouch! I’ve heard that really feels painful.
I'm honestly extremely interested in these
@@davidgemma8561 glad to hear it! They are very fascinating creatures!
Sorry do they all live together in there without mauling each others? I'd love to start a huge tank with diving beetles but first of all i want them to stay happy and also don't want to have em kill each others
@@Acme_the_rubberhose_dog the giant water bug and ferocious water bug are kept in separate tanks, but the others can live together quite well
What size aquarium you put all the aquatic beetles in
It’s a 20 gallon high 👍🏼
@@Aquarimax 👍
@@Aquarimax 👍
i have a small water bug as a pet its a lot smaller than yours
It might be a ferocious water bug from the genus Abedus, I have one of those as well
Cant wait to see the big guy eat
I will work on filming that 👍🏼
enjoyed-you shared breathtaking !😌
Awesome!
Can any of these species be kept with fish?
Not really…most of these will eat fish small enough and may even harass bigger fish…and any fish big enough to eat the insects will certainly give it a shot. 😂
How much waste do The Beatles produce compared to fish?
So far it seems as if they produce less than fish.
