I use a mini ozone purifier that is rechargeable. I charge it up and then drop into my bags. Ozone purifiers have always worked the best for me and are so much more affordable and portable nowadays :)
So tired of Poshers selling musty crap (including overly perfumed or febreezed) and not divulging it on their listings. I've been ripped off on a leather jacket, 2 handbags, and a Vera Bradley garment bag I am working on now. It may get pitched in the trash like the other items because I am not into mold or mildew of any sort and I appreciate things to smell neutral and will only sell neutral smelling items. Thanks for sharing your experiments!
I sprayed Lysol on paper towels and wiped the inside of my bags and I left the Lysol paper towels in the bag for a couple weeks along with dryer sheets. It worked for me. Eventually the smell wore off. Love your Dior bag.
Oh interesting idea! I feel like that makes sense because the Lysol is a pretty overpowering smell you would think it would help strip the bad smell, maybe I will give it a try! And I’m glad you like the Dior, I always wonder if I’m the only person that loves the Rasta collection 😂 it’s my husbands least favorite bag in my collection hahaha
Let me tell you that I know what you mean on the smell of the Pochette. I bought a bag from Elady and never did the listing state any kind of smell. The smell was like no other smell I have ever smelled , it was so potent and I tried everything nothing would work. Until….. After spending so much money on everything TH-cam told me to use you won’t believe what finally took the smell out??? Fabric sheets!!!!!! I left them for two weeks in the bag and stored the bag in a large plastic bag. The smell is 100% gone! The fabric dryer sheets I used was bounce outdoor fresh.
@@rachelwentshopping The baking soda should have been put inside the bag and vacuum to remove. I used a spray bottle with one part vodka and two parts water on the inside of my Louis Vuitton Sofia Coppola leather handbag and the smell was gone within days
This vid is perfect! I just received a preloved Gucci messenger bag in excellent condition. While it doesn't smell terrible, the very strong perfume scent isn't my favorite.
I just got a cloth lined Fendi bag from a big resaler. The bag is perfect and for the most part better than described except for the horrible smell! It wasn’t listed in the description which was disappointing as I’ve not encountered this before. I won’t buy a bag that has odor listed. The smell wasn’t musty but more of a strong, heavy, unappealing perfume. I love perfume but not this one. Anyway, the price was good and I wanted to keep it so this is what worked wonders although it took about 5 days. I cleaned the leather exterior and conditioned it. The inside was clean but I wiped it out with a damp rag and let it dry in the sun. I put 2 large bamboo charcoal bags in it for 5 days. I also added 2 smell well packets in it with the charcoal packets. It took 5 days but the perfume odor is pretty much gone. I took all the packets out today and I’ll start using the bag. I do plan on putting the charcoal in the bag when I’m not using it.
ooooooo I have never heard that! I will totally try it, I love hearing new ideas! Shocked about the stain, when I was editing the video I was thinking OMG stop rubbing it hahahaha luckily it worked out!
As a guy I don't have handbags but I do have a vintage typewriter from the early 60s and the pleather faux leather carry case has that vintage smell. This video came up in my search. Those beads seem a great idea and had never heard of water wipes either but will use those to start with and try some of the other methods (don't fancy the baking soda idea)
I love this video. I recently got a bag from amazon and it smells horrible! It almost smells like fish. I’ve let is air out for 2 days but it’s still smelly. I’m trying the baking soda right now.
There’s more tips in the comments too! You can also try putting it in the freezer and I put a little “OdoBan Citrus Solid Odor Absorber” in one of my bags and it really helped too!
how do you clean your canvas ! I have the exact Louis Vuitton pochette and mine desperately needs a cleaning but I’m so scared to damage the canvas or ruin the flowers what should I do ?!?!
Hii! I bought a MK bag recently. I love in a very humid weather and I could see my handbag having not only lost its shape but even it's stiffness. It looks fragile and bends easily like a tote bag now :( iam super worried. Can you please help me with what I should do now?
Omg THANK YOU For sharing. Does it have to be 3 steps or we can just do one? Does it worl with glue smell? My just brand new Petit Sac smells amd my SA said its normal with Canvass. What should I do?
I think you could try one step at a time and see what works and what doesn’t, for a brand new bag I think just letting it air out on your shelf and using it honestly will help over time! Since it’s brand new. Or I would just try the charcoal bag idea, the other ones seem too severe for a store fresh bag!
Thanks for this! I have a Longchamp le pliage cuir bag that arrived smelling perfumey (I’m so allergic) and leaving it on the porch to air out didn’t help. I sent it to Lovinmybag to be ionized and when it came back the perfumey smell was gone but it smelled just as badly of a horrible chemical smell. Again, airing on the porch didn’t fix it. Now it’s in a sealed plastic bag with an open box of baking soda; still smells. These odors give me a headache and make me sneeze repeatedly. I wish I’d never bought this beautiful leather bag, I cannot use it. ☹️
Hi, I bought a pincnel backpack from Amazon. It smelled like fish inside. Can I wash this leather bag. Will that get the fish smell out? Thanks in advance.
Put the dryer beads in a cut up pantyhose instead of plastic. U can make them whatever size u need. Tie up the end. U can store ur bags w/ it inside & shaking them will "reactivate" so u can use them in shoes, sport bags, closets, drawers etc they will last a long time. I've even tied them to a fan on cleaning day to freshen the house or tuck them under sofa (no kids no pet homes) to make the house smell good. Fyi: you can buy fragrant beads that are eco- friendly b/c the cheaper ones are made of microplastics & horrible for the environment. ** a better alternative is to use woolen dryer balls sprayed w/ lemon or orange water or your favorite essential oil. Put in a small shallow glass dish & place in bag. It will keep the oils off the bag
Love this!!! Such a great idea I will definitely try it! I do have the wool balls that I typically use when drying my clothes too. Thanks so much for these tips!
I think it's important to know what causes the smells in the first place. Meaning, what are the materials used to make the bag...leather, satin, vinyl, canvas, cotton, etc. The breakdown of glues, dyes and 'preservatives' all have their own characteristics. Body oils, ozone, and life in general do a number on non-breathable materials. Have you ever opened up that canvas tent in the garage after storing it for a year and smelled that 'wtf is that smell' smell? I'm wondering how sealing the bag in an airtight, vacuum seal type bag with some sort of borax powder (used to remove urine smell from laundry) might do?

Dryer sheets… smart idea!
I used dryer sheets inside and outside a coach leather bag for a few weeks. The bag had an extremely heavy cigarette smell.

Great tip I will give it a try! The potency has definitely gone down but it’s lingering… I was going to try freezer next 🤷🏼♀️

Absolutely in-depth video! Truly appreciate this. I am going to use this method on my cheap stinky bags haha. Ty ty ty!

Crumbled newspaper helps with stale smells too. Good job getting that stain out!!

That Dior bag…I love it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Definitely going to try some of this on a YSL muse bag I bought recently with a musty smell. Thanks.
Place coffee grinds in a paper or ziploc bag inside the bag. Leave the bag opened for a couple of days and discard old coffee grinds.

My purse smells like fish using the coffee grinds I'm not having any luck with the fish smell ❤🎉ty for sharing this video 💕

Vodka & water (with essential oil) in a spray bottle. Then leave in the sun...it will get rid of musty smell.

Wiping with white vinegar is good.
