I got a bag last Spring from a seller in Florida that had a strong musty smell! Washed with vinegar & some other things without success. So I took the bag, stuffed some newspaper in it, which is supposed to absorb odors, & put a small bowl of baking soda in it & some charcoal, & zipped it closed. Then I put it in a trash bag, along with another small bowl of baking soda & a small bowl of ground coffee. Put that all inside a basic white trash bag & left it for 10 days, never opening the trash bag. After 10 days, the bag had a slight coffee smell, but no musty smell. Now 6+ months later, coffee smell is gone, & musty smell hasn't returned. :)
Thank you for these tips! I just purchased a Michael Kors bag I've been wanting for my birthday. The bag reeks of cigarettes! I'm was so sad. Even the box it was shipped in smelled like an ashtray. 😔 So far I've used Febreeze and dryer sheets in the interior and water/vinegar mix for the outside and left it in front of the window for an 8hr shift. The smell reduced about 70%. I think the fresh air worked the best!
So glad there are other people as sensitive to odours as I am. I worry so much about buying secondhand bags and clothes because even a slightly 'off' odour will ruin the experience, and force me to expend time, energy, and resources correcting the problem. I still have items so permeated with the previous owners' perfumes or laundry detergents that I've given up on them. Coffee sachets and silica packs are remedies I have NOT used before, so that is definitely my next route. Thank you so much for sharing! Your bag collection is magnificent!
My sensitivity is related to childhood abuse. So certain smells trigger. And it's not common, cigarettes, I mean everyone hates that. Or wet dog, most people are that. Heavy perfumes, common trigger for migraines. But mine r food smells, BO, basic daily work sweat, meat, plastic, Febreeze, bleach, cheap dryer sheets, cheap softeners. New car smell, I had to eat fries many times in my brand new car to be able to deal. Fries smell in the houses cannot stand. Worn clothing🤮. So I just bought a new bag and I'm here to find how to get that stink out❤
Ooh good idea mayne coffee i bought some used bags and out of all of them one stinks so bad im trying dryer sheets right now and bakimg soda. It has cig smellls
@@princessliuz916 Old cigarette odour is so nasty. I wish you luck. I'm afraid you might need an ozone machine for that job. My husband has terrible sinus problems and didn't know, when buying a used car, that it had a horrible stench of cigarettes inside. We forced the dealership to do an ozone treatment, but all they did was run it a little while and then drench the interior with perfume. Our only hope is to buy our own ozone machine.
Thank you so much! I used silica gel packages and sprayed Lysol inside and smell is completely gone!!!! 😱I just left the bag unzipped in my garage with silica gel bags inside for about 2 weeks. Another tip, I also cleaned the outside of my bag with a Clorox wipe bleach free wipe and is all good! I know some people might think I’m crazy for doing that but is all good and bag is fully disinfected now.
Great video. I’ve used dryer sheets. I bought a vintage speedy & it had that old musty smell as well. I let it air out as well but I stuffed it with dryer sheets & that’s what helped me.
Another way you can get rid of odors is to throw it in the trash! Just make sure you throw it in my trashcan lol especially if it’s a Louis Vuitton or Chanel 😜
Baking soda always workings for me I literally sprinkle it on and inside the bag and works wonders but the coffee grinds are so interesting definitely would love to try it on a stinky bag I got today!
One time I purchased a vintage Trish Mcevoy planner and it had a weird musty smell. I put it under a UV light and it killed the odor. I used a UV light that Amazon sells for nail salon implements
Hi! I came across your video after I purchased a vintage LV Speedy at an Estate Sale that had a (medium amount, not very strong) musty/old smell to it. I'm happy to inform you that I threw about 4 silica packs and an open box of baking soda in the bag and overnight the smell is gone! Thank you for your the advice!!
Put coffee grounds in a filter unused and a half cup baking soda..close it in a container over night..coffee absorbs smells..if it takes two nights just do same thing again.
I have a pvc belt that has this strong toxic odor and I decided to place it in a plastic bucket with a couple small cups of baking soda + a dryer sheet and I have left it out on my porch overnight. Will update on this! Thanks for the video! Update: the smell has reduced I’d say about 30% so I’m thinking a couple more times should get rid of it entirely.
Rock salt wrapped in a sock & placed in the purse , then sealed in a trash bag will help with nasty cigs smells! Also a sanitary pad (unused -ha!) will absorb odors!
Tx a lot for your video. I was looking for an aroma diffuser for my bag like those made for cars but only found aroma bags, soaps, and sachets. Which is, I was hoping to find aroma balls for a new backpack, which I use around the city on a daily basis. But watching your video I realized I'll anyway have to hand wash, whether I use a sachet or not. Have a great day 🌹
Another tip that has worked for me..I wiped down my leather purse with “mothers” leather cleaner, the same one that I use for my suv 🚙 and the musty smell was gone gone! After I wiped down really good, I’ve set it outside for about 2hours. Also inside of the purse I’ve added some cedar blocks, the ones that you use for clothes.
I like to use dryer sheets in my bags. All it takes is one sheet. They last for weeks and when the scent wears off I just replace it. Gain is my favorite brand. I don't smoke but I'm constantly surrounded by people who do. At the bus stop, at work... urg 😒
I'm so glad I found this video. My sister passed away recently and had an extensive handbag and SLG collection. Unfortunately, she smoked in her apartment and kept the heat up to 80°. Now the scent is really baked in. Some bags are unused with tags/receipts. I will try the different methods you spoke about to get the smell out of the insides of the bags. You said it's very difficult to get the scent out of the exterior. I called a business that does restorations of designer bags. I was quoted $145-$265 to ozone and clean/repair one handbag. They mentioned using ozone to get the smell out of the bag. Have you tried using an ozone machine to remove the smell from any handbags? If you have, did the ozone help eliminate the smell of smoke?
IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO SCENTS, don’t do ozone!! I sent my bag off to do that and it did remove the stinky perfume smell, BUT REPLACED IT WITH A HORRIBKE CHEMICAL SMELL! The chemical smell is as bad as the perfumey smell, gives me a headache and makes me sneeze and feel crummy. I’m trying the baking soda and silica packets now with the bag tightly tied inside a kitchen trash bag. 🤞🏼
I have not tried ozone on a handbag but I agree with the other person who replied, it may leave a chemical odor. I have used it to try to remove an odor from a room in my house and it left a chemical smell. Cigarette is really hard to remove. I honestly have never had luck removing it completely.
@@MamaBeech I bought a leather bag on Tradesy or Poshmark that reeked of perfume. I am so allergic to these scents that I considered returning it. I loved the bag, however, so I sent it to lovin my bag to be ionized. $97+ and a few weeks later I got it back and the perfumey smell was gone; the bad news is that it was replaced with a horrible chemical smell, to which I am also terribly allergic. It spent weeks on my screened back porch, hanging in the kitchen, back on porch. I tried cleaner, conditioner, closing it up in a plastic bag with baking soda. Nothing worked. It still smells, slightly less so, but I wish I’d returned it. I can’t use it and I can’t sell a stinky bag. My advice is that if you are allergic to some chemical orders, just get rid of the bag.
Thank you so much for this video. I just purchased a vintage court bag with that odor. I washed it with Dawn and will wait for it to dry then will put silica pouches to do the rest.
Thank you for this video! I received a brand new backpack from a well-known store and it absolutely reeked with a fishy chemical odor. Unscented Febreze and baking soda did the trick!
Thank you so much for sharing these helpful; hints..Scents in bags have been a problem for me too..You can also google the question how to get scents of of handbags,,There are also some helpful hints on there..I never thought of using Alcohol on pleather & Leather before..Cloth handbags can be machined .washed...I like using vinegar & baking soda in my wash. He;ps the odor on clothes too..Just be careful not to use vinegar on a red colored item..Only when you wash the red item by itself,,I have read that if you wash a red item with vinegar it will help it not to fade afterwards..However it will fade somewhat when first washed..Like i say wash the red items to them selves... Because it will bleed on the other items,,I hope these hints help.
Thanks for the tips! I will definitely try them. I just purchased a hobo Gucci bag and the smell makes me sick on the stomach! I will give feedback once o remove the odor!! Thanks
my bag it's pretty new but smells like old shoes some one dead on it , and I could'nt remove it , the smell sooo aweful 😩 but I will use the silica gel it looks great idea 👌🏼💯 and I hope it will remove the smell ! Thanks for sharing ❤
Interesting article on bags. I'm really heavy going with bags. Mine get grubby really quickly. I spray them out with vinegar & then leave them to dry outside. Some of them can be washed & the leather bags are harder to get musty smells out. I also sprinkle them with bi carbonate of soda & let it sit in for a few days. Turn the bags inside out skake & lightly brush. It leaves the bags smelling really clean & fresh.... Also I find the carpet vac powder also works & leaves them smelling clean & fresh as well...
Thank you for this!! I just got a bag from TheRealReal - they have a ZERO refund policy on bags!! I LOVE the bag, but it smells exactly like a thrift store! It's so gross. I've aired it out for 5 days now. I have kept baking soda and activated charcoal in it, with it slightly closed to help that work. The smell is not totally gone. I also tried an odor eliminator spray called "Poof" which did nothing. I feel the smell is less intense, but still very much there. I will try your suggestions as well!
I have the same experience with TheRealReal. I bought an Alexander McQueen backpack. My bag smells like old man cologne, and I’ve tried everything. Nothing works! 😩
Just got a kate spade tote that had the odor of nicotine as in the gum - patches and pouches. I'm highly allergic! So I pulled the lining out and doused it in vinegar - straight vinegar in a spray bottle - left the lining outside the bad overnight -- it reduced it quite a bit. Then sprayed more - leaving the lining inside so that vinegar could reduce the odor of the actual leather inside. This took more odor out. Then pulled lining out to have fresh air. It seemed to work. I also used spray vinegar on a cloth cleaning the outside leather and the inside leather at the top. Unfortunately my Kate Spade change purse and card holder are smelling - so more vinegar. I may put them in a giant ziploc bag with a box of baking soda.
Several years ago my freezer defrosted by accident. Blood from the meat drained through the freezer onto the coils underneath fridge. It reaqued. I put charcoal for cooking on the grill in between the coils - problem solved. Another time i had a terrible oder in my car. I put charcoal bricketts underneath the seats - problem solved. I recently purchased new purses from China and they reaque. I will try the charcoal again as I feel that will be a good solution.
I actually came across this video accidentally, searching for how to remove mold from gun holsters. These are really great tips for removing odors. I'm subscribing and gotta check out your other videos. Thank you!
Thank you! Hope you get rid of the mold. I also have a few leather care (cleaning, conditioning, protecting) videos that may be helpful to you. You can search for “mama beech leather care” to find them.
If nothing else works, after airing it out, you can add a couple of drops of an essential oil that you can stand to a crumpled up paper and stuff it in the bag and it kind of helps to mask the gross dirty odors.
I just received my 1st pre owned L.V. bag from the real real. It’s in great condition and I got a great price but the details said nothing about the smell. Strong moldy/mildew(y) smell. I thought about sending it back, but this video has convinced me to accept the challenge. I will be trying all of the above… thank you!
I recently bought a lovely Gucci bag from there as well and it has the worst musty smell. I’m so mad that they did not disclose this. I don’t think I will ever purchase from them again.
I just brought an ellipse mm bag from them and it smells awful. I’m done with them because they didn’t disclose that on their website. I’ve sprayed the bag with microban and put dryer sheets in it. I hope that helps get rid of the smell.
Thank you for your video on this. I now have a few more suggestions to try for my issue - a florentine bag that reeks like ciggies. I love the bag, and I would like to use it without smelling that odor. I will try some coffee sachets and baking soda, as fabreeze and silica packets didn't work for me, yet. The smell is permeated into the leather. Ugh!
I just bought a used LV speedy, and it has such a bad musty odor (even though the listing literally said "NO offensive odor"). I've had baking soda in it for several days and can't get rid of the smell 😩
I’m so glad I found this!! I bought a bag from Poshmark that was in great condition except for the odor: it smelled like stinky perfume (and I’m terribly allergic to such smells). I sent it off to Lovinmybag to be ionized; that worked, the perfumey stench was gone, but now it has a horrible chemically stink that’s just as bad. I’ve cleaned and conditioned it but that didn’t help. I wiped it with a damp cloth and them a damp paper towel with unscented dye free Downey squeezed in. That didn’t help. Right now it’s tied into a plastic kitchen trash bag with silica packets. 1, do you think this will work? And 2, any suggestions? It’s spent a lot of time on the porch (I can’t be sure but it seems slightly less horrible), but it’s started to rain and I had to bring it inside. I can’t have it in my apartment bc the smell gives me a headache and makes me sneeze. Any suggestions? It’s the outside of the bag that stinks most. THANK YOU FOR ANY IDEAS YOU CAN PROVIDE!!!
Thank you for your advice. I’m going to try the baking soda. I have dryer sheets in the bag now. I have a ton of the silica packets. Should I leave the dryer sheets in for a few days to see what happens? Then put the silica packs in the bag with air paper right? New subscriber by the way. The odor is that strong must type. I hope one of these methods works. Thank you very much! 😊🙏
Just throw everything in there together! I definitely would take the dryer sheets out after a day or two and leave the silica packs for several weeks. Fresh air and sunshine during the day if you have a safe place to put it out will also help kill any mold that’s making the musty smell.
Thank you!!! I recently bought a very nice hand bag. For me $90 is a lot of money. The previous owner did not reveal ink marks, wear and SMOKE odor!!! I have tried multiple things including your tips and tricks. I will just have to try more baking soda, coffee grinds and lots of fresh air. Thank you!!!
Any idea on how to remove chemical smell (from China) out of my Vera Bradley bag? Someone had suggested soaking in water with vinegar & baking soda for 8 - 12 hours. Would soaking the bag for these house ruin the bag? It's a crossbody bag in the recycled cotton. Love your video tips.
Thank you so much for this video! I really appreciate the suggestion about the Louis Vuitton bag, which is why I came here to find out how to get rid of the odor. One feedback tip I would like to offer is that the mic was too low for your recording, as I had to turn my TH-cam volume and MacBook volume to 100% in order to hear. Just a suggestion to increase volume or set the mic closer for future recordings. Thank you again for this advice! I truly appreciate your time and energy put into this video.
I don't buy second-hand bags, but I took my bag to a bar that allowed smoking yesterday and now there is a bad smoke odor. And I am not smoking, so I'm very sensitive to the smell.
Thank you! Super helpful! I just got a lot of my old beautiful handbags from storage where there was apparently a leak in the unit and … yikes. Even the purses that weren’t wet and were in their protective dust bags smell like mildew/must inside & I can’t stand it. I’ll definitely try your tips! Thanks again!
OK - I understand why you like the choices you've mentioned 1) fresh air/ozone, 2) Febreeze, 3) other fragrances/sachet, 4) silica bags. The one thing missing from this and other videos of suggestions: NO TIME LINE. How LONG should it take to air out outdoors? or be packed in a sealed bag with baking soda? .............. I took a chance and bought some neoprene covered hand exercise weights from someone on FB Marketplace; I forgot to ask in advance about cigarette smells, but when I met her to make the deal, I could sense a fabric softener or something applied and didn't notice it so much; the biggest cig reek was on the woman herself. I should have backed out of the deal even though I drove 20 miles to meet her. I have soaked all the weights and other hand exercise items in the sink, cold water and Palmolive blue dishwashing liquid soap. Not really an improvement. Again, what should be the reasonable timeframe for these as I don't want them stinking up my workout room; ;cigarette smell is not relaxing nor invigorating, it is OBNOXIOUS.
No timeline mentioned because…who knows!? Way too many moving pieces to try to figure out a certain formula. What type of odor? How long was it exposed? How strongly? Etc. cigarette smoke is by far the worst to remove in my experience and it can take several months of continuous work. For example, set outside all day for 3 days. Still stinks? Then put in a bag with baking soda for 3 days. Still stink? Put it in the freezer for 3 days. Still stink? Try putting it outside for 7 days this time. You get the idea. I’m just choosing arbitrary amounts of time, the point is to keep trying different things and checking the item until you decide to give up or reach success.
Great video. I recently bought a large Shimoda Explorer camera bag off ebay, and it stinks of perfume... or perhaps scented Febreze? It was a male seller and the bag stinks of a "perfume". I've tried sprinkling baking soda over it, scrunched up newspaper, stored it all in an empty clean box, no luck. I've even tried submersing it a few times in water for 24 hours with no luck. (straps, inserts and metal frame can be removed to make it squishable). Any thoughts? I wasn't aware there was an unscented Febreze, so perhaps that could combat it? I'm in the UK
I have placed kitty litter in the bottom of a box covered by newspaper so litter doesn't come in contact with handbag...pierce a few small holes so kitty litter will permeate..I heard you speak of silica so I just ordered a bag of kitty litter made from unscented silica crystals.... Long-lasting formula lasts 20-30 days for a single cat home and 7-15 for multiple.. I'm going to try this as I have a Coach handbag that still has a musty smell after spraying with Zorbx, hanging outside & storing in box..I have purchased handbags/wallet with smoke smell and wrapped them in newspaper (I also stuff inside)...wallah, odor gone...you just need to be careful of ink transfer if a light color items...
Hi, great info. I bought a beautiful Fossil Leather Backpack, left it outside all day, conditioned the leather & still stinks like cig. smoke so, : After you get smell out of bags by using Silica gel packs, do I throw them out, or are they reusable? Liked & subscribed also! :)
Great topic! I hadn't thought of coffee grounds -- does it leave a coffee smell? I put odor-fighting (but non-clumping) cat litter into 2 pairs of long socks and knotted the ends of the socks and put those in a musty bag for a while and it seemed to help. I suppose you could put the cat litter directly into a bag, as it would probably dump out fairly easily, but I didn't want to risk a big cleanup. I also used the baking soda boxes that have the cardboard panels you remove and have a coffee filter-like material on the sides to let the baking soda do its thing without getting baking soda everywhere.
you can also wade up black and white news paper, it will absorb smells , i got a 250 bag and it smells like cigarettes , it really made me mad , i guess i should have asked if it was from a smoke free home , there is some charcoal, you can use , but it must be natural charcoal , with out any lighter fluids or flavors, theres one made by stubs , i use it in a bowl in my closets because i live in a old house , it does work for that ,i hope i helped someone a little bit
I think it's important to know what causes the smells in the first place. Meaning, what are the materials used to make the bag...leather, satin, vinyl, canvas, cotton, etc. The breakdown of glues, dyes and 'preservatives' all have their own characteristics. Body oils, ozone, and life in general do a number on non-breathable materials. Have you ever opened up that canvas tent in the garage after storing it for a year and smelled that 'wtf is that smell' smell? I'm wondering how sealing the bag in an airtight, vacuum seal type bag with some sort of borax powder (used to remove urine smell from laundry) might do?
Please give tips on removing gasoline smell out of a purse. Long story short went to work with my husband and gasoline spilled in his work van . I’ve tried baking soda and dryer sheets but hasn’t worked! I’ve only used it for about 2 months before this happened I’d hate to have to throw it out!
Oh no! I was going to say baking soda so I’m bummed you tried that. Maybe try charcoal. I’ve never tried it but lots of people have been commenting lately about that working
@@MamaBeech I will definitely try that! I’ve left it outside on and off for 2 weeks to air out. Which has worked but not as fast as I’d like it! Thank you. 😊
i have to say be very careful with the coffee method, especially if you dont like the sent of coffee. i used this method on one of my chanel bags where the interior had a bit of an old lady smell and the coffee helps totally get rid of it-but after that the bag smelled extreeeeemly like coffee, i could smell it all the time while wearing it crossbody outside and that bothered me a lot. i should had not do that tbh. it disappeared but it took months of usage and it was very intense
I tried putting my faux leather bag next to a box of vented baking soda but it hasn't helped to remove the chemical smell. I'm going to try your suggestion to use silica packs. If that doesn't work then I'll try wiping the bag down with soap or vinegar.
My Louis Alma was in storage for 3 years. When I got it back, it smell heavily of chemicals, almost as though the inside were saturated with insecticide. Makes me cry.
Thanks for this video! I just bought a LV Cabas Alto pre-loved. I LOVE the bag but it has a strong smell of faint cigarette that was covered up with a heavy, gross perfume. I've tried to put baking soda and putting it in a trash bag for a couple days. I've tried spraying diluted vinegar, pure isopropyl alcohol with essential oils, wiping it with fragrance free baby wipes. Nothing works. Also, the smoke/perfume stench has permeated the lovely vachetta leather on the bottom. I will try the fresh air and the silica packs. Any other suggestions would be great!! ❤❤
Boy that is tough. The only smell worse than cigarettes to get out is perfume! Sounds like you are doing everything you can. The only other thing I have heard of but not tried personally is putting the bag in the freezer. I would make sure you protect the vachetta if you do that though - don’t want to get ice on it that will melt.
@@roxymusic4117 The LV bag I have still randomly smells, but not as bad as before. If you have a place outside that’s secure and sheltered, maybe try leaving it outside for a couple of days. Use newspaper to keep it open. Just make sure it won’t get rained on. I left mine on my deck under a table, and unfortunately it still got rained on. Now the inside is stiff and I’ll probably have to get it lined with new leather. You could try coffee beans. Go to a Starbucks and see if they give away their old grounds. Some do for people to use in their gardens. If not, I discovered one of the grocery stores I go to sells sample size bags of coffee, or you can grind a small amount yourself. Maybe you have a grocery store like that. Coffee beans help in removing odors.
I am the exact same way with smells! As much as I love the smell of a leather purse I absolutely can not stand the smell of dirty leather and unfortunately can smell it a mile away. Lol. I always job that they say PU leather because PU leather stinks so much ! Anyway thanks for the tips. Nothing but good smelling purses should be a thing. Lol hugs LisaG
gobeagirl I just bought a purse from Mecari and the cigarette smell was so bad I could smell it before I opened the package. The seller refused to let me return the item and Mecari did as well. Now I’m stuck with this putrid smelling backpack.
@@nicdeepero You're nuts. Dispute the matter with your credit card company. It's easy. Stay on the phone til they give you your money. Might want a replacement card namely b/c anyone who does that kind of business WOULD charge you again!
You are not weird.....I am the same way!! I have tried dryer sheets, putting them in freezer (made it worse), my bag smells like plastic (trouville has a plastic type liner).
Watching here coz i have a lv blue soufflot vintage that has a blue suede inside. It has a vintage musky old smell. So yes will try what u have advises and the comments ;) Thanks! By the way for zippered bags should i close it with the silica gel inside plus dryer sheets?
I’d try leaving it open with them inside and if it doesn’t go away after a week or so, then try zipping it. The more fresh air gets in there, the better.
Did you ever do the cat odor video? I just got a couple bags from a friend that took me a while to identify the odor of. She has advanced cancer so I'm not going to ask for my money back. But I really need to get rid of the smell!
I bought a leather hand bag with a fabric lining I just put it in the washing machine and had to do that a few times tobacco is the worst smell to try and get rid of, I used saphir products after leather conditioner and cream pish but it's, still ever so slightly there putting the bag outside in the wind also helps
I have a Louis Vuitton Papillon it’s only three years old but I bought it pre-loved and it’s gorgeous but musty like it was stored in a pawnshop in the LV box and bag,, I use the baking soda circle that’s about the size of a pancake and it has helped but it is still a bit smelly and I am super sensitive to that as well I guess I will try coffee grounds...😚
Definitely grab some silica gel packs and put them inside for this kind of smell! Anything musty is probably moisture related and those will help absorb the moisture
I didn’t! Definitely was not coming out so luckily Dooney has a trade in program for old or damaged bags and I was able to send it to them and get $$ off a new bag from them
Thanks so much got this beautiful Louis Vuitton bag off poshmark but it smell awful love the bag but If I can’t get the smell out I’m go to return it Thanks for the tips
This exact thing just happened to me... my first (and probably last) purchase on Poshmark. Did you have any luck getting the smell out? Mine reeks of really bad perfume.
Depends on the bag and the odor. I’d leave it for maybe 5 days and then do a sniff test. Carry on checking on it at 5 day intervals until the smell is better or you give up and try a new tactic.
I find all LV canvas bags that aren’t open (NF) smell stale like the inside of lunch boxes do after a child’s day at school, after about 6 months. I’m selling my canvas ones and buying light weight leather options. Just inherited a load more canvas LV. I can’t stand the musty smell. Silica just absorbs moisture, not smells. Ozone machine is the best way.
what about peroxide that kills like everything...but not on leather lol. I have abook ag and it smells lke spilled stale beer because that happened i threw it in wash and still smells like stale beer....so im thinking fresh air....wash again with peroxide sprayed inside and then air out again and user silicone gel bags! That better do the trick lolll
Oh there's a lot of people who can't smell their own odor, musk, & pets let alone cigarette odor. mainly cuz they're used to that particular smell. I am super sensitive too. I got a hand me down leather couch been over a year still can smell the cats the lady had that's why I'm here to get out odor 😁
Heres a fun fact. Silica gel packs are not dangerous or poisonous lol. If you can swallow one without choking its perfectly safe. Ppl just think that it is dangerous because it says do not eat on it. its just a choking hazzard. but the goofy thing is why would anyone eat them? I guess because they put them in food products they just all say do not eat on them.
I haven't use my lv felicie bag, I took it out of the box to give to my daughter to use. And smelled like old moldy cheese. My son started laughing asking if I was storing cheese in it. We open it up and left it to air out but a day after it's still funky.
@@MamaBeech what would you recommend for a Michael lots small zipper wallet that smells like month balls? It’s too small and the pockets are too tight to put anything like coffee beans or a container of baking soda. Should I use silica gel packs for this? Also how long do you recommend I keep them in for?
Hi, I got a second hand coach messenger bag and it had marijuana scattered at the borrom if a couple pockets. I vaccuumed it and sprayed febreez and it STILL smells. Any tips on THAT strong smell or am I just out of luck?
*Help!* My cat peed on my Kate Spade block denim crossbody bag. It’s part denim and part white leather. She peed on it while we were away on a trip and I just found out now a few days after we returned. It’s fully dry now and it STINKS! I bought some arm and hammer carpet baking soda for pet stains and scents, distilled vinegar, and nature’s fresh enzymatic stain and odor remover foam.
Omg you read my mind. I totally agree with you. I can’t take a bag 💼 with a bad odor. Please view my Noe bag Unboxing storytime on my Channel. I experienced the same thing with a bag with pet odor. Tfs your ideas for eliminating odor. Another thing that I have tried on LV successfully is carpet odor eliminator comes in a baking soda box and like you said putting bag with it in plastic bag and closing it up. Yep silica gel. You are my best friend in my head. Lol 👯♀️♥️🌹😘
I am also sensitive to odors. It seems this is the year of bs for me. I just purchased a Burberry trench, & it arrived with this weird chemical fishy odor. This happened to me 6 months ago on a coat I bought elsewhere and it stunk my entire living room up I sent it back to the seller. I haven’t a clue what the hell this “smell” is & all I get is the run around. It looks pressed & dry cleaned but smells awful. What do you suggest I do? Air it out? You had some great tips I’ll try to utilize before having to dry clean 35$ on this which honestly pisses me off. I am a seller myself I would never ever do this to someone. Any tips for advice is much appreciated. I just subscribed because we are so similar.
It put it in a large plastic bag, garbage bag or garment bag and seal it in with baking soda and/or charcoal odor absorber. Leave for a few days. Then set it outside to finish airing out. Let me know what happens!
It could be the fabric sizing. I´ve hand-washed fishy-smelling garments and not only does the smell come out, the water is gross - tinted amber, brown or yellow. Works 100% for me.
I bought a LV Reporter Bag on The RealReal, when I received it, it was in great condition but the inside smelled like mold. I can’t seem to get the smell out of that bag. I tried using it but then the smell was absorbing into all my SLGs.😩
I just purchased this hand bag from Amazon and it rinks of fish or something..but it's awful. 🤢 So I'm trying the coffee grounds first being I don't have a box of baking soda on hand then that if needed hopefully something works bc I love my bag 😊
Thank you! First time I purchased a pre-loved handbag and It smells like cigarettes! 😢 She denied it and I'm still trying to get the smell out of the bag :(.
I have an lv wallet purchased a few years ago but never use it and it has an awful smell . None of my other bags of wallets have this odor. Any suggestions
i have question i buy bag from amazon has strong chemical smell inside and outside what product should i use get smell at of these bag and i love your videos so much
The only new thing I’ve heard lately but not tried personally yet is something called Ozium spray. I think you can get it on Amazon. Good luck! Sorry this is happening to you - trust me I know how annoying and disappointing it is!
Drawer sackets or in a breathable sacket with Downey unstoppables. As long as the sacket doesn't let little dusting of the unstoppables seep through the sacket.
I tried to get rid of the moth balls scents in my bag with coffee but in the end my bags smell like a coffee, so stop usung coffee, but i Will try silica gells Hope that works.
I need advice on a bag that came from a home that I believe used propane to heat their home, so the bag smells. I tried baking soda in a trash bag. I so tried charcoal sachets. Any recommendations?
I’ve heard of and dealt with a lot of odors but this is definitely a unique one! Fresh air, if you have a safe space to leave it outside. The longer the better. You can also try putting the bag in a plastic bag and placing it in the freezer for awhile. Or alternating between these two ideas.
I am 3 years late on watching this video, but I do have a question for you or any TH-cam users on this thread. I purchased a strap from a Louis Vuitton boutique, and it has this strange leather smell, almost like rubbery smell. If there are any suggestions on how to get rid of this smell or lighten the smell in any way, any help would be greatly appreciated, since I very much love my monogram strap.
Sometimes vintage stuff has a moth ball smell which is just a storage odor from being stored with moth balls. Other times it is definitely a musty smell which is due to mold, unfortunately. It may not be visible but there is a moisture issue happening.
This happened to me twice with two of my coach bags. Both of the bags was discounted and I got a good deal on them so I didn’t want to return it. My coach backpack especially smells like cigarettes.
Hi there. I bought a used bag recently and although it was in fab condition, no stains, it smells like chemicals. Like really strong mosquito repellent. I eneded up putting in the wash multiple times, tried leaving it in the sun, etc. It still smells. Any thoughts on what it could be or how to get rid of the smell? It makes me nauseous it's so bad. I bought final sale in a store while wearing a mask (covid) so never knew it smelled :(
Yikes I’m so sorry that sounds awful! You can try charcoal odor eliminator bag or something like that. That would be my only additional suggestion. Good luck!
I do know THAT PAPER WORKS. PAPER TOWELS ESPECIALLY
How?@@evelynvanwinkle1942
I was going to suggest the silica packs too , I always save those just because they are so handy! Coffee grounds is a good tip too!
I tried the silica packs, I didn't open the bag after almost a month but the smell is still there :(
Great video. I’ve used dryer sheets. I bought a vintage speedy & it had that old musty smell as well. I let it air out as well but I stuffed it with dryer sheets & that’s what helped me.
Once I get a pre-loved bag as acceptable as I can, I put a couple of dryer sheets in it (alongside with the silica packs) to store it. It def helps!
Whats a silica bag? Is that a tea bag?
@@princessliuz916 the little packets that come inside the bag or in a shoe box when you buy them. they’re usually white and say “do not eat” on them.
I’ve found putting in unscented dryer sheets help remove odor too ❤
Another way you can get rid of odors is to throw it in the trash! Just make sure you throw it in my trashcan lol especially if it’s a Louis Vuitton or Chanel 😜
😂😂
😂
Baking soda always workings for me I literally sprinkle it on and inside the bag and works wonders but the coffee grinds are so interesting definitely would love to try it on a stinky bag I got today!
* coffee GROUNDS not grinds
One time I purchased a vintage Trish Mcevoy planner and it had a weird musty smell. I put it under a UV light and it killed the odor. I used a UV light that Amazon sells for nail salon implements
Wow great tip!
Great suggestions, thank you! Going to try it now, can’t stand a bag I purchased. Hope this works!!!!
Yay so glad some of these tips worked for you!!
What type of silica packs did you buy and from where? I searched on Amazon and they have different kinds
Great! I’m so glad it seems to be working!
Does it completely go away over time? I just bought pvc belt too, and has a very strange chemical smell
@@casanova4391 yes it does! And it shouldn’t take longer than a week of leaving it outside I believe
I’m going to try this !
I’m allergic to cedar, too. ☹️
Sneaker odor balls work great. They are sold at shoe stores and the shoe aisles of department stores.
I like to use dryer sheets in my bags. All it takes is one sheet. They last for weeks and when the scent wears off I just replace it. Gain is my favorite brand.
I don't smoke but I'm constantly surrounded by people who do. At the bus stop, at work... urg 😒
Didn't work
I'm so glad I found this video.
Was it the V…cause I just got one from them hence am here

Thanks
my bag it's pretty new but smells like old shoes some one dead on it , and I could'nt remove it , the smell sooo aweful 😩
but I will use the silica gel it looks great idea 👌🏼💯 and I hope it will remove the smell !
Thanks for sharing ❤
Did it work?
I just got a Dooney & Bourke with really strong smoke odor. White vinegar sprayed on the bag has helped. Going to try the baking soda!
If nothing else works, after airing it out, you can add a couple of drops of an essential oil that you can stand to a crumpled up paper and stuff it in the bag and it kind of helps to mask the gross dirty odors.
Airing perfume-smelly dresses outside today got rid of quite a bit of the odour. The bag is nearly there too! Good tip!
I use a small cloth bag filled with downy april fresh beads and keep it in the purse for about a day. It works. I love the smell afterwards 😍
Try charcoal! I have not tried that but I’ve been getting a lot of comments lately that it works
@@MamaBeech On Amazon all the charcoal bags have several negative reviews. The highest had a 4.3 rating. Discouraging. ☹️
Where did you buy it from, because eBay/Amazon wouldn't tolerate lying like that. 100% + seller on both.
I use the silica packs in my handbags too.. great informative video 👍
Your video was extremely helpful! Thank you so much!
Great tip on the cat litter! As far as the coffee trick, it will temporarily leave a coffee scent but it dissipates after a day or two.
you can also wade up black and white news paper, it will absorb smells , i got a 250 bag and it smells like cigarettes , it really made me mad , i guess i should have asked if it was from a smoke free home , there is some charcoal, you can use , but it must be natural charcoal , with out any lighter fluids or flavors, theres one made by stubs , i use it in a bowl in my closets because i live in a old house , it does work for that ,i hope i helped someone a little bit

Did anything work to get the cigarette smell out?
@@mikaelafox6106 I would also like to know. I tried washing a vintage bag and my hands ended up smelling like cigarettes. Nasty 🤮
@@roxymusic4117 The LV bag I have still randomly smells, but not as bad as before. If you have a place outside that’s secure and sheltered, maybe try leaving it outside for a couple of days.

By the way for zippered bags should i close it with the silica gel inside plus dryer sheets?
I’d try leaving it open with them inside and if it doesn’t go away after a week or so, then try zipping it. The more fresh air gets in there, the better.

Have you ever tried charcoal? How do you get the stuff inside your bag to not smell? I had essential oil spill & now everything smells.
I have not tried charcoal personally but I’ve heard good things. Inside I use baking soda or silica gel packs
I’m so glad I found this video! For real though, how did you remove the pet odor/urine smell?
Activated bamboo charcoal in a cloth bag.
How long do you put the stuff in there for? The coffee grounds or the baking soda etc,
Depends on the bag and the odor. I’d leave it for maybe 5 days and then do a sniff test. Carry on checking on it at 5 day intervals until the smell is better or you give up and try a new tactic.
Have you ever tried salt?
If silica work I would think salt would also absorb and dry out any scents and moisture
I haven’t tried that, but it totally seems like it would work!
So my wife was gifted a purse that smells like smoke. Guess what my job was today...
Haha! Hope you are able to fix it and get some major husband bonus points!
These are awesome ideas. Thanks 🙏 for sharing
*Help!*
My cat peed on my Kate Spade block denim crossbody bag.
Mama Beech thank you Mama for your response I will most def do that and let you know the results!!! 😘
Kitty litter can also work. Alot of them are mostly if not 100% silica.
i have question i buy bag from amazon has strong chemical smell inside and outside what product should i use get smell at of these bag and i love your videos so much
The only new thing I’ve heard lately but not tried personally yet is something called Ozium spray.
Autumn Beckham uses charcoal odor absorbent packs from Amazon to get out odors.
I tried to get rid of the moth balls scents in my bag with coffee but in the end my bags smell like a coffee, so stop usung coffee, but i Will try silica gells Hope that works.
Would instan coffee work as well?
I just purchased a vintage bag. Does the smell mean there is mold on the bag or just a smell from storing it?
Sometimes vintage stuff has a moth ball smell which is just a storage odor from being stored with moth balls. Other times it is definitely a musty smell which is due to mold, unfortunately. It may not be visible but there is a moisture issue happening.
@@MamaBeech would that mean there’s mold and it’s a danger to you so the bag should be disposed? Or if the smell disappears then there’s no mold?
This happened to me twice with two of my coach bags. Both of the bags was discounted and I got a good deal on them so I didn’t want to return it. My coach backpack especially smells like cigarettes.
I brought a Steve Madden bag. It has a fishy smell I’m definitely going to try all of these
Did any work
@@harrisson2843 I did the coffee one a day ago. I can still smell it a little bit so I just going to let it sit for about a week.
@@geminibaby6527 oh k come back and tell me the results please😊
@@harrisson2843 I checked the back the smell is going away so I added new coffee and 8 silica gel little packs
@@geminibaby6527 ohh cool thank you so much
Charcoal bags are great for purse orders. I put my purses in my nightstand and put charcoal bags in it.
Good luck!
