Nearly four years ago I drove the Lexus LC500, and I was disappointed. For the price tag, the numbers simply didn't add up. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to drive the car again, on public roads, to see what it's really all about. The Lexus LC500 Convertible disappoints only on paper; the driving experience doesn't leave a lot to be desired. In this video we'll discuss it's objective shortcomings, subjective advantages, clever convertible top, and incredible interior.

A lesson most folks today don't get cause they're all about that social media hype. Bottom line is whether you care or not.
People talked about driver's cars and when they come along, they complain. Then a car with an incredible 0-60, isn't engaging enough. I'll stick to my 13 year old ISF. Suffice to say with more cars Lexus puts these V8's into, I have a whole list of them I want to own. That V8 does not get old.

As the owner of a 2018 LC 500 for about 2.5 years now, I can safely say IMHO it's the best car on the market today in almost every category...except as a all out race car. If you're one of those dufus' who needs 700 h.p. for the public roads, then go buy a 700 h.p. car. If you, on the other hand, are looking for a "perfect" car, this baby comes pretty close. I'm fortunate enough to be able to buy any car I want and looked for almost 3 years, driving over 30 different cars. Honestly, they all sucked for one reason or another. Mostly, I like reliability and knowing that my car will get me where I want to go without some stupidly designed, cheaply made part failing and costing $6000 to replace. That eliminated everything made in England, Germany and Italy. EVERYTHING!!!! When I first saw the Lexus LC 500, in exactly the same color combination in this video, my knees buckled. It was the most beautiful car I have ever seen ....notwithstanding the first time I saw an XK-E in 1962. Within 30 days, I owned an LC 500. Inside and out, top to bottom, front to back it is a beautifully made, well-engineered masterpiece. It's plenty fast. It's comfortable. It's exquisite inside, which is mandatory for me. The body lines are awesome. I even like the Enform computer infotainment/gps system BECAUSE I spent a lot of time learning it. Once you learn and understand it, you almost never have to touch a thing as the VOICE COMMAND works great. All in all, if you're able to afford one of these....buy it. It is way underpriced. I looked at four or five different models of Aston-Martin, did some research and ran away. They look pretty but they are money pits. The Lexus is Toyota reliability squared times 1000. My other car since 1970 is a 1969 Corvette 427/435 Tri-Power. I've had it 51 years now and still love it. It's actually more fun to drive than the Lexus but the Lexus is simply in another class all by itself.

If you're going to go with a Corvette, take my advice and get a big block. I've driven them all, including the C-8 and still nothing is more fun than my "old" 'Vette. It's been a fabulous car. With a little over 200,000 miles the darn thing is still running like a champ. I'm not! It is. The C-2 Corvettes are indeed nice and the '63 with the fuel injected 327 is awesome, but still not as much fun as a 427 four speed. Take care.

I’m a proud owner of an LC 500 with 2 years of daily use, city and multiple long road trips. Almost 60kkm on the ODO.
In my opinion, It’s all about the passion of driving, Lexus has done a good mix in this car, with that majestic V8 rumble, while your driving position is where “most of the car is in front of you” 😄 without sacrificing comfort and reliability. IT IS a head-turner :)

My last car was a Mk4 GS450h and on paper it's...fine. In reality I swapped it for a 981 Cayman S (which everyone apparently loves) and I can say with 100% confidence that the GS is a better car. For me the difference is that in other cars like the porker, 90% of the time I love it while 10% of the time I just want to get home. In the GS there were 0 journeys where I just wanted to get out of it. I don't regret the swap, lockdown Porsche is the way to go, but I'll be in a Lexus dealer in 2-3 years looking at another GS or LC.
Lexus are inconsistent though, some of their cars are incredible while others...are the CT200h.

I think we often forget that the the qualities often associated with luxury like a quiet and isolated cabin with nice feeling materials are things that work against lightness. Think about how much weight sound deadening material and thick glass adds. Granted there are ways to get a bit of both, but that can really escalate the cost. There are lightweight track weapons out there but the LC is not trying to be that.
Honestly, I can't afford something like this, but I am glad that it exists. It really looks like a car that a group designers and engineers wanted to make even if they understood it wasn't going to get a big following.

So I used to own a Mazda 3. Ya, it's a budget car. It was the very first car I've ever purchased. But boy was it a really fun to toss it in the backroads of California. The gearing was more aggressive than other subcompacts of its era, and it had amazing handling. My next vehicle after 10 years of the Mazda 3, was a much more pricier Audi A3 (pretty much a GTI, but much heavier). Despite it being faster than the Mazda3, it wasn't as fun to toss around the corners without some upgrades. BUT, it does ride pretty well. I enjoy driving it in long highway drives, and it's peppy enough. After a tune, it was more than enough mix of cruising and fun. I recently thought I want to go faster, and test-drove a GTI. Ooof.. I didn't get much enjoyment because my older A3 feels more planted, and comfortable. The GTI is certainly fast. But every car has their niche, and every person is different. I found that some nuances of that driving "feel" is different with everyone, and I'm now finally understanding what I want in a vehicle. Now, a used 2018 LC500 is square in my target, because it looks like it has just amount of fun to be fun when needed, but much of my driving now are those long highway driving stints with my wife just chillin' on the weekend. Driving the GTI and tossing it is fun, but definitely not fun for the wife who'll be the passenger and driver.

She is the opposite of tech savvy, flip phone, no computer, and she likes it that way. When purchasing her first non CD car she was so worried about what she was going to do. Cue my mother in law loading thousands of songs onto a flash drive for her, plugging it into the USB hidden in the center console and she now has all the music she could dream of right there without having to swap out CDs. She thinks she’s living in the Star Wars era and couldn’t be happier with it! So just a thought for someone who thinks they need a CD player.

For day-to-day driving nothing beats a big naturally aspirated V8. The smoothness, torque, effortless speed and sound is something that people who have grown up with smaller displacement turbo or high revving smaller engines that need to be wound out to make power don't get. Ironically, because of the relaxed torque you don't have to "drive like you hate it" and as a result they generally get pretty good mileage too.
