- I wasn't happy with the selection of kayak hoists out there. They were either too cheap, or way TOO expensive. I was able to piece this together and I couldn't be happier. Shout out to Wayne for the help. I hope you enjoy. Please ask any questions you may have.
What I used: You will need hoist x2 and you do not need the gambrel

Four lag bolts
Great video, thank you
Happy to help!
Nice! Are you at all worried about supporting the center of the kayak?
Great point and yes. However 4 years strong and now bowing. But yes, I should add support to the middle!
250 lb rope ratchets and simple eye hooks work I just tie a piece of 550 cord on each end for insurance under $50 for the whole thing.
Sure, great suggestions!
Awesomeness
Totally~!
Installed last night for my two kayaks! Worked great on my offset pitched open rafter ceiling.
Love to hear it!!!
Nice job! Straight to the point explanation and easy-to-follow design...thanks!
I agree!
Thanks Phillip! Glad I can help. if you are wondering, Kayak is still hanging strong
Best pulley system i have seen, thank you
My pleasure! Still holding strong as of today! No bowing of kayak
THANK YOU! I was having the same issues and I’m so grateful I came across your video! I’m actually going to copy this exact setup!
Thank you for watching! LMK how it goes
Excellent video and great idea, I was using pulleys and one of the pulleys let go and the kayak fell! Also, a great idea is to use heavy duty carabiners!
Thank you! I need to take your advice and add a security strap and also upgrade my hardware. Thanks foe the view!
Your videos are very helpful bro. God bless you and your family.
Hey thanks!!!!!
Cool! the best one I've seen!!!
Thanks for the watch! Works like a charm
Great video! Love the easy release and easy re-securing of the line. I have pole barn with exposed trusses that are about 14 feet off the ground. I hope your lock/unlock system will still work at that height.
No issues yet!! Your set up sounds great as well. Taking it out this weekend. New video to come
Thanks for this vid man this is exactly what I was looking for to hoist up the big fish 120 being the tank that it is lol.
Glad I can help! Indeed it is a tank. Beautiful thing
Perfect thank you! Just failed using the cheap amazon options on a feel free moken 10. This looks like a great option!
Glad I can help. I almost pulled the trigger on one of those. Good luck!
thank you so much, I hope it is as easy as you made it look, Does it come in a pair or buy one each? thanks for your feed back comment
i went to your link and i found out my answer. its separate . Thanks
Happy top help! I had to buy two. Good luck. Still super strong to this day!
Could you add another pulley in so they aren't just on the ends? One of my yaks this would work for the other not so much. Great idea and look forward to using it.
Yes I think it would be just fine. if you mount it in the middle you def will have more support. Thx for checking it out
Wish I would have seen this before buying a more expensive and more difficult to use 1:1 lift system. I may replace and take your advice. Thank you.
Hey! Thanks for the cool words! Yes, I did not want to pay more for something less sturdy. Happy to help. Thx for the view
I was told never to hang from the handles or scupper holes. I think it would be so much easier to do it just this way maybe another through the center to help keep the yak from deforming
Good suggestions, thanks for that. Havent seen any deforming yet, but I will keep an eye on it
Good vid man, I keep my bigfish 120 on a 12 foot utility trailer, Im in the process of adding your trolling motor set up to both my wifes and mine, got the adapters also and will be ordering a couple rod holders also because I also like to troll swim shads for stripers, question ? do you ever get in your kayak at the boat dock so you dont get your nfeet wet ? Thanks from PA, and good fishing man.
Hey thanks! Have used many boat docks, have launched from many shores as well. Swim shds are the BEST for striper!
Great video. Thanks
Thanks for the watch! I’m glad I can help!
Game changer!
Travis Wingo thanks brother!
Wow that's awesome, thanks man.
Glad it was somewhat helpful. See ya around!
Awesome idea, only problem is I missed were to get the pulley system ?
Thanks for the watch! Amazon my dude! I think I put a link in the description.
If not, try this in the Amazon search bar.
Hunters Specialties Game Hoist Lift System 600# 00645, Multi, 600 lb.
Go Knights Go!
That is what I am talking about!!!
Thanks- exactly what I was looking for. Mounting kayak on a davit outside. Used exactly the same gambrel. Weight is not even but to be honest the heavy end is pretty hard for one person to lift (100 pound kayak). Any thoughts? Great solution.
Love that this helped, mine is still holding very strong with no bowing to the kayak or structural damage. I do not seem to have a problem lifting the kayak, however it does help to be in the most leveraged position for the heavy end. See ya around
Great video! Do you know the measurement from the beam to the top of the kayak?
Thank you in advance!
Hey thanks! It varies, but whne it is at max height., there is about 10-12 inches from the kayak to the beam
Thank you for the video! Do you think you can use a system like this to get a kayak up on top of a high roof campervan (Winnebago Revel)? Thank you in advance.
I do not think it would be a problem. I just worry about damaging the RV on the way up, for sure a 2 person job
Will this work if the pulleys are directly over the kayak so that straps can be used. I don't really have a place to tie to on the bow of my yak. In other words, can you pull to the side and still have the rope brake work?
Sorry for the late response! Yes it would work no problem. You just need to keep in mind weight distribution. Lifting from the center, or middle will just require more of a balancing act than anchoring to the bow and stern. Thanks for the view!
Did you have to tweak the pulley? i have problem with it locking period.
Yes, at times. Nothing tho that has caused an integrity issues
Great video! I wish you could put out some fresh material, it’s been a while. Question: how’s the hanging setup lasting up to this point - and sagging/bowing of your kayak? Before I commit to doing this for my big fish 120, I’d appreciate an update (I wouldn’t want to cause any sagging/bowing). Thanks and keep those videos coming.
Hey!, Sorry for the late response. Life is so cazy right now...covid..yadda yadda . Everything is working great, no bowing or damage to kayak or house. I'll do an update video soon. Schools almost over. thanks for the watch!
Thank you for info vid!!!
Thanks for the watch!!!!!
NIce!!!
Thanks for the view!!
looks great thanks
Wonder if you could wrap ratchet straps around the kayak and hang it from that way.
Hey Brother! Thanks for your service. Were you in Alaska by chance? Good videos...
Hey! Never been, dying to go
Thank you nice vid!!!
Glad I can help
Wish you could make more videos of big fish 120
Only question I have is will this damage the kayak? I'm looking for storage options too. I know it said to store on its side. but I assume that is referring to storing on the floor.
Great question. I do not foresee this harming this kayak. The plastic they use is a strong durable poly material. I can't advocate that it wont ruin any and all types of kayak, but I suggest to use your best judgement. If worried, you could loop a strap around the middle as well. I have not seen any bend or break with the kayak yet (6 months). Cheers and thanks for the view!
EDIT: Yes, when they store on side, they mean on the floow.
@@TheFishingFather Mine is also a big fish 120. I just worry about things like that.
DEAD WINTER valor concern. I’ll keep ya posted
Great idea. Love my big fish 120. I think, though, that your flag is hung incorrectly. I believe union first is the way to go.
Alan Bromley you’re right! I’m sure I am going to be hearing this a lot. Thanks for the view!
It’s been a year. Any issues with your kayak sagging in the middle or signs of strain at the attachment points bow or stern?
Hey, thanks for the great video idea, nothing sagging at all!
What size lag bolts are needed?
I'm looking to get a Big Fish 120 tomorrow. Are you still happy with yours or would you recommend a different kayak?
LOVE the kayak. Depends on your needs. Stability....yes, room.....yes, safety....yes. Only downsides I see are the weight. Its a heavy one. I do eye the 108 every now and then. If you have the means to transport the yak, then do it! NO REGRETS, thanks for the watch
Completely over built... And I approve.
A couple improvements for full optimization:
1. The "hinge" should be directly above the load or, at least rotated 90 degrees (again, doesn't really matter due to how over spec it is.)
2. The pulley systems (block and tackle) should hang directly above the load point (90 degrees.)
3. Use some wall/ceiling pulleys for change of direction and get the ropes on the wall so you can use both at the same time (doesn't really matter due to the low height of this particular ceiling, but for higher ceilings, you'll want to keep the load fairly level.)
Are you speaking Spanish? hahaha. I very much appreciate the input. I will try to adjust it as you mentioned. I did not place the "hinge" right above the attach point because I needed more clearance.
Fleury looked pretty good at opening night in Chicago 😆, ( not really I can't stand Blackhawks)
That was hard to watch! He had no defensemen tho. Hate the Hawks but love me some MAF!
@@TheFishingFather Only time they had defense is when Seth Jones (former CBJ) was on the ice. Saw him several times at Nationwide Arena (Columbus)
@@lowlifeangler Ahhhhhhh. Love to see where VGK goes this year
fuck yea great idea
Thanks brother
Seems overly complicated compared to the normal ones that everyone seems to be using. Also not really supporting the weight of the kayak or anything and just putting all the stress on 2 points.
Thanks for the input. Its a rather heavy kayak and I would not feel safe with the traditional methods. Overcomplicated...it was rather easy actually. I have not noticed any bowing yet. But thanks to your constructive input, maybe I will add a brace to more support the weight in the middle. Thanks and have a wonderful week!
