It always impresses me how humble Tony is while talking about the difficulties in the process of making Andor. For us to watch it full and done is easy, but building that show must have been insanely hard. We're really lucky for this team's job
George R.R Martin did something similar with Song of Ice and Fire, where he pulled from various historical events to craft a story that felt historically authentic despite being fantasy. That’s why, in a lot of ways, Andor’s writing is reminiscent of the writing in early Game of Thrones.
Please forward this message to mr. Gilroy. Andor resonated with me because of how several incidents in the show happened in some way to my family. I was taken away as a child. My mother is an activist like Maarva. They attempted to capture her by setting a trap at her father's funeral. Attacks like Adhani are very common tactics of guerrilla movements. Saw Guerrera reminds me of Guevara, who was merciless. Honestly, showing him in a similar way would add to the character and remind everyone how ruthless war is. I wanted to simply thank him for writing a story that had several beats that were similar to what my family experienced.

God I hope kevin fiege sees the success and approach to this show and let's daredevil born again tell real grounded stories. I could care less about the rest of the mcu or star wars for that matter. What I know for certain is ill watch whatever the Gilroys do next.
It is absolutely wonderful that you have talked with Tony Gilroy. I now understand much better how it is possible that Andor is many times better writing wise than any other SW movie or show made in the last decade. Again knowledge and understanding of history is the backbone of good writing. Even in sci-fi/space opera, cause history repeats itself all the time. Almost always when I run into something well written I found out it was done by someone who spend a lot of time reading/learning history.
I dont think the author or any writers of science fiction ..are aware they r actaully tapping into the future as creative shamans ..and rendering it in abstract form and translation into the present conscious collective mind.. The present real war game of debt is a war on the collectiive mind that functions as the battlefield that we individually create as connected nodes and our ignirance of this builds the battlefield ... There is only one way out...of this battlefield of debt and death ..and that is reduce debt at the treasury , the foundation and fountain of the present war game.. when we redice debt we create a peace game ..and this crewtion is also seen in abstract form and dialogues in the movie.. The empire lives only when we r asleep to its existence The rebellion movement in andor has very much abstract renditions of the present day rebellion against the merchant debt empire that showed its true global control during the global debt adminsitraion and reduction of national debt liabilities via the operation of the scamdemic..they r still operating via the WEF movememt..that controls nations via their young leadership.. programs .. The underworld allowed to contorl the regulation of debt system is also renditioned in abstract form

Fantastic interview, thank you so much X-Ray Vision. I can't believe - and subsequently feel guilty - that I have never heard of you guys until now. Your interviewing style is brilliant - you're clearly running an incredibly underrated and awesome podcast! Kudos to you guys, and thank you to Tony Gilroy for coming on too :)
I´m glad that TG endured his existencial crisis in the middle of the production. Quoting from Rogue One. This show is hope for the Star Wars Franchise.
i fucking loved this show and the way it felt so fucking real and grounded and serious vs its mainline movie counterparts. especially when it came to how it depicted fascism and revolution. hats off to Tony and the rest of the crew who made this show possible for taking a much more mature look at the galaxy far far away that we all know and love!

I'm glad he didn't allow the attempt to paint him into the "pushing the agenda" corner. So much tongue in cheek SJW culture being forced as the center piece of stories today and it's all hot garbage. If you want to highlight politics, write good and full characters whose lives weave in an out of those issues. A story is nothin without good characters.
Yeah I see people bringing up a lot but you can clearly see various historical influences in the show that are so much more depthful and saying it's about current events. Of course you can make it applicable to current events but it's also inspired by millenia of human history.
Star Wars was always explicitly about a rebellion against intergalactic space fascists. Lucas himself said the originals were modelled on the Vietnam war. The bad guys are literally called ‘The Empire’?? Use your brain

The finale had a lot of call backs to the troubles in Northern Ireland.
Yep.
Not to mention having a Second Line! So good...
Definitely felt that as well when I watched it! The imperials being so scared of a funeral really rhymed with the IRA funerals at the time.
1000000%
Reminded me of Palestine and the current situation with Israel a lot too

Pretty insightful how the directors are chosen. I'm so glad the show was made too

My cousins, in their teens, had to escape because they were at risk of being recruited and drafted to go fight the contras in the mountains.

You might have predicted something with this comment, they just pulled an Andor and started over with everything after the writers strike ended
