      hahaha bro
I did everything right but then on the left side of the steering wheel there's another cluster and I started messing with that and there was something that was unplugged that engaged my shifter all the way into Park like electrical thing and it worked

The plate the shifter mounts on is broken on my 98 Sierra. It is shown at 4:32 of the video with the 4 mounting holes. Am I needing a whole steering column now ?

It probably could be repaired but for all the work you would go through to get to it I would replace the column. These columns are very finicky so replacing it is best in my opinion.

I just changed both the ignition cyclinder and shifter mechanism, but a major problem is that I can shift it without the key in the ignition. That was no problem before, what I'm thinking is that the spring loaded pin that goes from the shift mechanism to the ignition cyclinder isnt engaging fully

I just want to know if I'm on the right track

You are on the right track. I believe I had the same issue at one point. It’s a while since I did this repair so I can’t say for sure what’s I did to resolve it. Now that I think of it. Double check how that cable for the shift pin is routed. There was a zip tie or clip that held it in position which broke on me because old and brittle. I am pretty sure if it is not secured correctly that the pin will not completely lock up the cylinder and shifter.

@@FullRange4x4 I've pretty much chalked it up to that cable mentioned earlier being the trouble. Unfortunately, I've had alot of problems with Dorman (the brand that Autozone and O'Reillys carry for this part) So I'm saving up the big bucks to get that fresh Oem

Dorman has been having some problems lately with fitment issues on all types of parts. A couple mechanics I have spoke with are all having problems with them so OEM new or from junk yard has saved them.

@@FullRange4x4 I very much agree with that, changing this part was supposed to be a quality of life kind of thing to me, but yes just about every other part I've acquired has come from the junkyard haha.

    What’s the Dorman part number?

For my Chevy C1500 truck from the year 199, I changed the Steering Column Shift Mechanism for one
Dorman 505-101. The funny thing is that it doesn't allow me to drive in 1st. What did I wrong ?

These things are so finicky. I recall facing the same problem but I don’t remember how I resolved it. I think it had to do with the shift cable.

I replaced the shifting mechanism checked it like the video said everything seemed to work want to turn on the truck and nothing happened so now my truck doesn't start

I’m sorry to hear that. When you say doesn’t start…does that mean crank or no crank?

I need to replace my shift mechanism but everytime I purchase a new one, the column shift edition me having the key in it or depressing of brake pedal!
It's always the 905-101 that malfunctions after installing it...

I have heard bad things about dorman recently. Someone else just commented with the same issues so they are getting an oem one. Otherwise, I would look at getting a column from the junkyard.

A lot of unnecessary work doing it this way.

It was my first time tackling this project. How would you have done it differently?

when you take the lower cover off the column the shift assembly is on the side. You don't need to disassemble the entire column to access it. Remove the bottom cover and its right there.

Hmmm. I wish I had one to look at in person since it’s been a little bit. Thanks for the tip! I appreciate the feedback.

Hey, I though I responded to this but did you figure it out? I did run not this as well. I thought it was something with the shift cable in the mechanism but I might be wrong.

I'm thinking you did not do the adjustment portion of the install.
