  • With the help of Honda Australia, Dave Darcy the shooter producer of Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV and Andrew Clubb Editor of Australian Adventure Bike Magazine set about building a small capacity but highly capable adventure bike.
    This first episode will serialise a long term bike build of the Honda CRF300 L Rally. The aim of the build is to make an affordable adventure slayer. A bike capable of taking on those big miles but not over accessorised for the sake of it. Hopefully modifications will be capped at 25% of the bike's purchase price.

    Looks and sounds great. Like a real motorcycle now. Noraly will have to have one. Still waiting for mine. Good to have the shorts if nothing else just keeping the attention of the audience. I like the long programs but like to watch those at my convenience. Look forward to the travels. Be safe

    Fantastic work lads! I got the phone call this week (while at the pub at Phillip Island :-)) that my new Rally has left Melb and will be in Perth in the next few days! HAPPY DAYS! :-)

    Those aren’t spacers, that’s the heat shield mounts for the header. Remember taking them off?

    Must be a sign of good things. I literally chucked one of those Thai MotoX systems to my 250 today and share the loud pipe sentiment. Bike sounds less like a sewing machine now!

    Great little bike be interesting when you add up all the costs what it would be. Really has the its market segment to itself now Yamaha has left. Looking forward to the video on the weekend I really want to head to the flinders ranges soon you only ever hear good things. 👍

      I am of the same thinking, my stock had a hole in it, I could have fixed it but went for the road legal Arrow, it has offset some of the weight I have put on over Christmas.

    You Guys crack me up.
    Even if you don't do the ECR or the CBR300R cams the inlet throttle body snorkel will improve engine breathing for Sure.
    You already did the Unifilter to help remove that asthmatic restriction but you only went half way IMO

      @michaelanderson3771 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV not the inlet side Snorkel that you cut in half look at increasing the air box to throttle body rubber connection to throttle body. On the CFR that inlet to cylinder side is about 32 mm ID, the CBR300 Air box to throttle body inlet rubber is about 48.8 mm ID- so more air from air box to cylinder. check Sean from Shonky Productions on his air box mod.

    Doesn't sound too loud, and that's good! I'm looking for a bit better flow but don't want to draw attention in the woods.
    Did you install the catalytic or non-catalytic model? I'm guessing the cat model will be quieter too.

  • @teamgas
    @teamgas ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here is a question! In the UK to buy the crf 300rally and mod the suspension and a few other essentials would cost about the same as buying a new (discounted) gas gas ES700. Where would you spend your money?

    • @ant_ramos
      @ant_ramos ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Depends on what you value and what you really want.
      The Honda will give you more wind protection, it's more comfortable, a plusher suspension, a better seat, with great gas milleage, you can cover big miles. It's well balanced bike as it's very capable as a long distances adventure bike that also copes well with worse terrain type of stuff.
      But if you want to rip some lanes, like loads of power, really great suspension setup from factory and do some adventure trips, the 690/701/700 platform is something else.
      If you would use this bike for commuting as well, go for the Honda.
      It's up to you at the end of the day.

    • @steveh100
      @steveh100 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I went for the rally with no intention to go too far off road with it... since then I've upgraded the suspension joined the TRF and had some great fun off road and on the trails, it drops ok. I couldn't afford anything else but I can afford to upgrade it as I go along, bit by bit, it's been fun, the stock exhaust won't last forever as I ride all year, a road legal replacement from arrow is £££'s but it will get done eventually. Maybe a 700/690 would have been better for road use but the little rally is growing along with my skills, and at my age I won't ever be too good for it. Something more off road focused like a 250exc would be a much better trail bike but the 300 mile journeys I do often aren't what they're designed for.. so many options, I'm glad I didn't know all of them when I bought the bike - it was himalayan or CRF rally along with availability at the time. I chose okay!

      I have a 701, the equivalent. That is the bike for me. But I am definitely attracted to the 300.

    Those hose clamps with bent metal pieces with the tapped holes belong on the pipe where, on a 300L, a leg will be near the pipe to mount the factory heat shield.
    .
    With all the aftermarket full exhaust available WHY did you chose the Arrow?
    I have 300 Rally and am considering one. Just don't know what one to purchase.

      Go with the motox exhaust. Cheap but well built. With the baffle still in its not much louder than stock (there's a pommie guy on here that measures the sound difference). Much lighter and less restrictive, especoally with baffle removed ( but much louder). And put the stock heat shield back on and it looks great

    This exhaust is the ugliest thing i have seen mounted on a motorbike, it completely spoils the crf looks. Arrow sends them to all the TH-camrs cause nobody wanna buy the hideous thing.
