How about doing simple door traps!?!?! It could be anything from tripwires, leg snares, caltrops, a large pointy stick pulled back and set up so that when the door is open it'll snap towards the intruder. You know "simple" ideas
I am surprised you guys didn't try spiking the door. Basically hammer a nail at an angel (45°)thru the door into the floor, wall or door frame on the door nob side. If you do it from swing in side it works like a door stop; if done from swing out side it acts like a dead bolt. You can even remove it and use it as a latch pin
Should have tried penny locking the door. You basically apply pressure to the door and add coins as close to the door knob/dead bolt as possible. This keeps the pressure on the latch making it act like a lock. So, even in the event the person trying to get in has a key, this will keep them out. Barring any battering ram or tools being used.
You two are not the brightest most of these techniques would work if you executed them properly

The broom one would have worked decently well with a couple changes
1) you need to tie it so the rope is perpendicular to the door
2) use a sturdier broom or anything sturdy that can span the doorframe
3) pull the rope tight so the door can’t even begin to move, less inertia means less breaking of rope

I would also definitely not use a broom since they're hollow and extremely easy to bend once the circular cross-section gets any kind of flaw in it, like a dent. Use something like rebar.

@@NickC_222 sure in an ideal situation something like rebar would work better but in the kind of situation demonstrated here a broom if likely the best you will have on hand if that. A fireplace poker would be better but would likeLy not be long enough to span the door frame. Golf clubs might work better provided the door is not a wide one and they might be more likely on be on hand. Another option might be a floor lamp if it not too heavy.
To securely tie the pole/bar to the door knob do the following: a) Tie one end of the rope around the center of the pole/bar your using very tightly. b) form a 3” loop with the rope with the end already tied to the pole and tie the other end to the pole/bar (each end of this loop is now tied to the center if the pole/bar.). c) now take your loop and twist it a few times by hand and hen slide it over the door handle. d) now take the pole/bar and pull it towards you so the twisted loop is taught and Twist the pole in a 360 degree motion multiple times until you can just barely slide pole/bar ends over the door frame and the left and right sides.

Fast and efficient way, put 2-3 screws or nails to staple the door side to the door frame and the floor as well.

@@tony_5156 The way I learned to understand it is: credit is basically the bank trusting that you're responsible enough to pay for whatever you buy with the card. Pay off your debt *on time* every month when the bill comes and they trust you with more credit. You can't just have it and not use it though, you have to actively show you can pay by doing it.
In college I applied for a secured credit card, where I pay them $300 for ~$250 in credit, and was refused...
I'm almost 30 and am only just beginning to understand it haha. Apparently it looks good to have a credit rating when applying for a mortgage so I use it to buy shit off eBay I don't need but can afford and just pay it off at the end of the month.

I just want to make this known, If you are inside a room with an inward opening door, the best way to stop someone from getting through is to stack furniture between the door and the wall across from it basically making it so they have to break the furniture or break the wall. This works for outward opening doors too but not as well

First things first, the one with the broom needed the broom at the same level as the door knob.
I've got one that apparently nobody ever thought of, ever. I learned it when I was in my early teens and needed some (ahem)privacy from my parents. Get an "eye bolt", well, more of an eye screw, and screw it into the gap between the door and door frame. You want the screw to be wide enough to grab into the door and frame but not so big that you completely destroy the door or frame when doing so. You can technically do this with almost any screw of the right size but an eye screw(or hook) is able to be done by hand and rather quickly. It'll leave very few marks on the door or frame but will prevent pretty much anyone from entering. This is only for an inward opening door, btw.
Interesting thing about the door stops if you guys decide to do a part 2:
There's a kind of door stop that you can buy that has basically a huge bolt going through the back of it, so when the door stop is in place you can thread it down and tilt the actual wedge part.
Deviant Ollam mentions this in a couple of his talks and videos where he's talking about staying in shady hotels.
In 100 deadly skills Clint recommends using 2 broomsticks instead of just one. 2 other methods include using an eye hook screws on each side of the door screwed into the frame, and then passing a bar through the holes. The other method is installing deadbolts on each corner of the door so whoever wants in can't get in.

It would have worked at least as well, probably better than tying the cord to the bench if they just put the broom as close to the knob as possible and doubled up on the cord.
So, the chair one. I actually did this to a co-worker in the bathroom at one of my previous workplaces, then forgot about him for like 20 minutes. It works REAL well when there's rubber feet on the chair that's on rough tile.

door stops are much more effective when there's a smaller gap under the door, plus the floor keeping the stop from flexing out of the way
I was thinking the doorstops should have been more effective than they were here. In a proper doorframe with a smaller gap I think they could prove quite effective against a person pushing on a door. The more they push, the more the doorstops resist.
Yes... it's best when door stop bigger than the gap and harder the materials more better...
Doorstops are super effective when used under doors without 3" gaps. The harder you push, the tighter they get Source: everyone who's used a doorstop.

I'm genuinely surprised they didn't even mention/attempt the penny "trick"... I think that'd a great option for really quick and really accessible door stopping power. I've locked people in and out of rooms with just a penny or 2

The rope and broom method was done completely wrong!! Guys you should have tried it with the broom lower down, about level with the door knob. And then have the rope tied to the door with a decent knot, and then wound around the broom a couple of times, and then tied back to the door with another good knot.And then maybe add some duct tape if necessary. When you guys tried it the broom was way to high on the door frame, therefore too much slack in the rope. Please try it again because that would have worked way better. You could also try like a wooden broom/yard brush.

Helpful hint for murderous fiends or zombies: If it's an interior door, just bash a hole through the drywall to one side of the doorknob, using any available hard object, then reach through the hole and unlock the door or move the chair or cut the rope. All the wonderful blood and brains will then be yours!

Something I would like to see revisited, bring out Deviant Ollam, he's got a great talk on attacking doors, as well as designing doors that would take him time and effort to get through without specialized tools.
Wedging your door shut absolutely works with wooden or hard plastic wedges, although it exerts a lot of force on the door and can destroy cheaper ones. For the broom thing to work, I´d suggest you use either a clove hitch or a constrictor knot. they are both knots you can lay "in the air" almost in an instant, and then just tighten down over, say, a door handle.
I have tried it, and it was effective. The best barricade for a door is your mattress, especially the big ones. They are floppy and cumbersome, but when you're in panic mode you can quickly get it in front of a door. No matter the direction the door opens, it'll impede anyone on the other side of it from yourself.
Also, depending on the mattress and the danger you are in, they have a tiny amount of added stopping power for small arms fire. Not much, and do not rely on it to protect you, but just like lining your walls with phonebooks it could mean surviving long enough to flee or long enough to arm yourself to fight back.
Just pointing out, door wedges work so well because they can push into the floor. The harder you push open the door, the higher on the wedge the door will be (by compressing/pushing the wedge into the floor). When you use one on a platform, it has basically no advantage to a wooden wedge

You should try to penny someone in. We used to do that in the dorms. If you're outside of a door that swings in you can keep someone from opening the doorknob by jamming a number of pennies between the jam and the door where the bolt is. The pennies cause so much friction on the bolt, the doorknob won't turn. We used to lock people in their rooms that way!

Don't know if this will be addressed in the video, but you also need to be aware that if someone is on the side with the hinge pins they could just knock those out, so that needs to be considered
the hinge pins are on the side the door opens towards, which in usually inside, so it's not a problem if you're keeping people out
then you just replace some of the screws in the hinges with security pins so you cant just walk the door out

One time when I was visiting a buddy from SA I noticed he had 2 HEAVY duty coat hooks bolted to his door and i asked him about it and he said back home he had them on his door and a heavy brass lamp that was taller than the door was wide and at night he'd sit the lamp in the coat hooks to stop anyone trying to break in. Seemed pretty effective

The broom needs to be in line with where it's attached to the door, otherwise you'll pull the broom loose by pulling up or down
Some swiss military facilities have massively overbuilt heavy duty steel coathangers that just so happen to wedge the inside door handle perfectly against the doorframe. Used this a couple times and once someone tried using an axe handle as lever to press the handle from the outside and ended up breaking the axe handle instead.
Was thinking about this I love youtube having me covered for when I want to see things that I cant explain to my friends or family.
I feel like locking the door should be a step that comes before breaking out the Paracord
I can tell you for a fact that the chair one works, some things to make it work better is a level floor, full wood chair, just a tiny bit taller, and you can kick it into place to make it harder to move. I've tried a lot of these before and the chair one is my favorite, followed closely by the rope one.

Inward opening barricades made up of anything that can solidly reach across the room to the far wall works very well. A bed and dresser and a bunch of books makes the door as solid as the far wall.

Something we did in the military to lock people in closets (pranks, all in good fun) if the door swung out of the closet, we would take a sticky lint roller from the dollar store (military issue.... Stop laughing) and stick it on the floor where it met the door. Very hard to budge the door. I would LOVE to see you guys try this one.

Brian always starts to *try* to tie a knot, but invariably instantly resorts to "UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH JUST WRAP IT AROUND THE THING A LOT. A TANGLE'S AS GOOD A KNOT. YUP. I DID IT."
I had to actually barricade a door once (not for fun like in this video) and i ended up tying stuff to the door handle and wrapping rope around the hydraulic arm at the top. It was the hydraulic arm that kept people out, because the type of door required a metal arm to pivot open. I'm pretty sure i wrapped a belt around it, but i also remember using an entire roll of floss that was braided to increase strength. Its one of those memories that really sucked at the time, but i look back at it amazed that it even happened to me.

I've seen the paracord trick done in dorms as a practical joke back in the 90's, but I'm sure it's much older than that. Tie off the door knobs on two adjacent rooms. Leave enough slack that one door can open enough for a 3 to 4 inch crack. Then call people in both rooms to come meet you in the hallway and watch as hilarity ensues.
BTW, kids, don't do this. Seriously. Someone could get hurt.

Early into the video tying the outward opening door. Look up the Trucker's Hitch, it's a way to cinch down a line tightly in order to reduce/eliminate jossling of a load in the back of a truck. Should be tight and hold well, and all you need is something to loop around like that table leg there
you may want to revisit the door shim part, those door shims you used functioned by grip (friction?) while fully placed on a flat surface, meanwhile u all just shove it in there.

Yup for the rope one: tie a loop in the end, bowline or just an overhand on a bight then tie your knot around the knob and run the other end off and around. Then tie another loop using an overhand a distance from the first loop. Now take the free end and run the line through both loops twice. The goal is to make 2 pulleys and use the rope to apply a ton of tension into the line, then tie it off and be done
If you are on the push side of the door (where the opponent must pull) you have the advantage of the door jam blocking inward force - meaning the opponent cannot just mule kick and throw their weight into the door, but must pull. Thus, you need less force. The disadvantage, however, is that you lack purchase (something to pull back from). Since you are dependent on that doorknob, you knots MUST be good ones and your rope tight enough to prevent any access for a blade.
So, if you are anchoring, it not only needs to be something too heavy to even budge, you then need to tension the rope (something you might use the broom and tape for, by winding the broom to tension it like a tourniquet and then using the tape to keep the broom from helicoptering loose).
Putting the broom across the door is just using the broom as your anchor. You will wan to secure it with good knots, twist it for tension as close to the knob as you can, and then just tape to keep it from spinning out.
If you are on the pull side of the door, you have to resist MUCH more force.
The best way to do that is by creating a jam. If you have pieces of wood and long nails you can simply nail them down into the floor, or sideways into the door frame (even if you don't have the wood you can just half-sink nails to create a jam).
Beyond fixed jam like that, anything loose will be susceptible to working movement as it is stressed repeatedly.
So, rather than just piling up junk for weight against the door, you want weight across the floor. A cabinet you can move in front of the door they can move away with similar force. Thus, you want that cabinet laying down flat on its back with the top to the door to maximize friction with the floor (and then pile on weight until it exceeds their force).
Best, however, is if you can get a fixed jam by lining material all the way to the far wall. Even just a line of books stacked tight to the far wall will jam the door solidly to the structural tolerances of the building itself. That will far exceed the strength of the door itself (which for most interior doors is far too weak to stop anyone for very long).
A trick that I've discovered if you happen to have a handful of deck screws and a screwdriver: screw as many as you can in up and down the handle side of the door. Only works on inward opening doors or doors without door jams.
I can tell you, the doorstops would work on an inwards opening door. I used to do this to the chef's at the pub I worked in after a shift. 1000% effective.

btw if you want that broom to block the door, you might want to put it actually *in front* of the door knob so it pulls on that rope instead of just randomly taping it to the wall somewhere nearby...
I know these were trying to show improvised things in a pinch, but if you were "at home" trying to be more secure, dont overlook the obvious literal "bar the door". On inside, drill some floor holes (preferable metal reinforced), drop in a short length of metal rod (steel tube? allthread? rebar? anything really), and just lay a length of 2x4 between the pins and the door. Works amazingly well, even if someone has the key (or removes the knob), unless they have a Deviant style hook rod thing, they aint getting that bar up, and even then, you try hooking a flat piece of lumber with a coathook that you cant see what you are doing.
Also, re: the rope thing (ignoring the "tying it to a moving object lol", just dont tie it to an anchor perpendicular to the door. Thats why it was slipping off. ANYTHING over to the side and it would have been fine with your slip knots.
I feel these types of "try it" episodes are starting to seem like those infomercial intros with the black and white part "do you have trouble holding bread? or operating this simple device?" You all mean well, but then give a quarter ass attempt at testing that just makes it not even worth the time and electricity used to film it.
I can't remember where i saw it but the best way to barricade a door is to put as much weight behind the door so bookshelves and other furniture. And if you have the time and stuff have the item reach from the door to a wall facing it so it physically hasn't got the room to open.
I once did the chair under the door knob to keep my brother out of my room. After meeting the obvious resistance he kept pushing and it just sheared the door handle off.

Might be a bit late, but for the inward opening doors, put 4 Pitons into the adjacent walls (make a square with them). Then use Paracord (or 12mm Hemp Rope, depending on what you have) then either thread the rope through the pitons straight across the door or thread them through in the form of an X then tie the knot up.

I was writing a review of being disappointed in videos like this where Brian and Jason seem flustered and don't actually try the efficacy of these methods in a smart way and you have a whole team to think these things through, blah blah blah... and then I realized I am watching this three days after it was posted on April 1st... Yeah so just tried your tie rope to bench the door thing and I found if you tie an anchor points to the middle of the Rope where when you tie the rope to the door then to the bedpost you can bring it back to the center and then put it through the tie-down then bring it back to your post or bench where you can then tie it off it'll keep your door very secure and very tight
Chair idea works best with doorknobs that turn downward instead of around. Prevents someone from pushing the doorknob down.
Drilling a whole in the floor right behind the door and dropping a bolt through the whole pinning the door in the closes position works well

For the chord around the table leg I would have used a simple trucker's hitch. Relatively quick and allows you to get a 3:1 mechanical advantage on the door.
Tie a buntline hitch or some other slip knot around the door handle, then run it around the table leg, then run the chord through the hitch again and trucker's hitch it. Then you can tie it off.
For the broom handle, don't put so much slack in the chord; keep the broom level with the door handle.
Then either use a clove hitch or a constrictor knot. Both are pretty fast to do if you know how to tie them. Especially when doing the loop method, because you can just slide the broom through the loops.
Definitely don't use duct tape as a rope. The tensile strength on duct tape is way lower than parachord. You can tear duct tape with your hands.
