My favorite technique for secretly recording someone is to have an obvious camera and a hidden camera. When I was a kid, we had monkey bread (a dessert made from cinnamon and sugar put over dough balls and pressed together) that wad sitting out after cooking to dry, and we said that nobody in the family was supposed to take any until it was time, and I decided to record it to check if someone tried to take some. I put a super obvious camera up where everyone could see, and a hidden camera on the other side of the room so that people who tried to sleight of hand to the obvious camera would be filmed clearly. At the end, I revealed at the family talent show we did that day my “surveillance skill,” where I played a time lapse that showed pretty much everyone trying to cover it up and failing miserably.
Chemistry so good I always feel like maybe they should get a rainbow family thingy going together, but then I always feel wrestlers should make love not war, too :D
This is why this is the best channel on TH-cam. It's the fact that you keep bringing back jokes and situations or plots from old videos. That every video is not a one off, in it's own bubble, separate video.
Jason Murphy it seriously took one video (the one on whisky) and I was hooked. On your channel that is. You guys are nailing it. Great content. Not a single boring video.
The Govt. Knows No more interest in the Middle East So they look at you while you touch your meat In the middle of a truce They put the equipment to the use Why you think you pay the tax? For drones and spies, computer hacks Tax has gone through the roof At least it's put to good use th-cam.com/video/4zH9Zca1vRM/w-d-xo.html
The equally sneaky one they didn't try is a key fob, that just looks like some random aftermarket fob you'd get when your 20 year old beater's factory ones die. Pinhole camera right in the edge, so you just set your keys casually on the table and as long as it's pointing the right way, you're recording everything. Used that one and the pen while working security, because people will get stupid when they don't think they're being recorded, and I swear some of them think they're the evil movie villain who can tell the guard exactly how they're going to lie and not get caught.
I love the amount of verbal jujitsu Jason pulls with the set up. It's like he's just casually explaining the inner workings of a warp core. I actually had one of those pens, "Meh" camera, but a GREAT pen.
lolera222 _Cold open,_ is what they'd call it in the show biz But this is the "two amazing idiots screwing with each other" biz, so _thingy_ would even be appropriate
Two things: 1. Those Apex BOM cards from the mystery box are the best deck I've owned in years! They're capable of some mind blowing sleight of hand. They were my every day carry till the box got wet and ripped. definitely gonna order another deck from you guys. 2. this video was honestly one of my favorites and definitely some great gift ideas to come from this. Thanks guys!
I still think you guys should do a Modern Rogue Pirate Month; Intro to sailing, fencing with cutlass/saber, various rum/18th century drinks with Trevor, and either talking and singing like a pirate, or black powder firearms (including canon or swivel gun).
While this is a fun and light hearted, it raises an excellent and serious point about surveillance. This stuff is readily available for the average person to buy, so imagine what governments/criminal gangs/all those kinds of groups potentially have access to. Not to mention the cyber aspect with data logging and all that jazz. Either way, great video guys. Keep it up. Also Google algorithms, show me more cool stuff like this channel, I know you're listening :P
Good protips to avoid/protect against that kind of stuff that I learned from a weird Tween Novel about a girl with pointy ears: set little canary traps all around your house. Bit of hair wrapped around your dresser drawer handles, dead bee on the windowsill, stuff like that.
the NSA etc doesnt need to bug your house or have a "repair-man" come and plant recording devices because you've already done it for them. They can listen and watch you through your devices like your phone, laptop, etc cameras . They record your activity online and through cell-phone calls/texts. Anything with cameras or audio recorders built in that also connect to the internet. Smart-tvs, etc. Those damn google home and similar devices. Tape over your cameras on laptops etc or get those little camera-blocker clip-ons , but honestly its nearly impossible for them not to know stuff about you if they somehow suspected you of doing a crime worthy of their attention. The only way to stop that is to break up the NSA and they will never do that because its too useful of a tool for finding threats to national security (of course its used for more nefarious purposes too of course). The above video's devices are scary sure, but there have been pen cameras and tiny audio bugs available for decades . Its just now they can record longer and its easier to get the video off of them.
I have a lighter camera (the yellow and blue HDALTH one) that's noise activated, it goes three minutes each activation, so no truncating silence, and a motion activated (San Beweketto) water bottle camera. I like those, because leave them somewhere, they can record for days, because one stops when nothing moves, one stops when there's silence. It's a double whammy. I also got the lighter on Wish for less than ten bucks. The water bottle, $40 on Amazon.
How is it that The Modern Rogue manages to upload videos that I'm interested in, even specific stuff like Quarterstaffs which have been my favourite weapon for years - they just know! Definitely the best channel I watch.
This channel is a treasure, but not the type you want to hide, is the type the one you want to annoyingly tell your friends if they have watched the new one yet
This is my favorite episode after the ghost hunting episode - it has an edge to it. Well played, Jason! Bonus points for name checking Moriarty. MR is one of a handful of things that make the world wonderful.
So the big question becomes, can we turn that USB charger into a cloning device whenever someone plugs their phone into it to charge it? I mean if you're gonna go that far, might as well go all the way.
coolestto555 Depends if the phone is on... If memory serves, you could sideload stuff back in the old days of android by pushing a file while the system reset. I think that's actually how I rooted my first Android phone?
This is the kind of episode I love. Informational in a more real-world setting, with plenty of the guys' banter, plus ditching more of the kayfabe that Bryce and Brandt don't exist or something. I like seeing their additions to the show and I'm glad Bryce's appearance was kept in, here.
This was by far the best video so far!!! Awesome set up, awesome plot, I was so engaged and love the products, thank you Modern Rogue for the amazing content that continues to get better and better!
hey you rogues here is a video idea: "the forbidden library" or "that book collection that will get you on a government watch list" could include unedited, unabridged, unredacted, copies of the anarchist cook book and PiHKAL: a chemical love story ( pretty much a journal of experiences and experiments with psychoactive and hallucinogenic drugs as well as detailed notes on how to make and use them. written by Alexander and Ann Shulgin)!
@1:25 "It's kind of anecdotal." It's really well studied, especially in the last 20 years. Here's a taste cognet.mit.edu/journal/10.1162/jocn_a_00979 I'm not "upset" but it is not correct to call it anecdotal.

This is why I like these guys. They did a show together, the show went alright but nothing crazy but they had so much fun they continued it on their own.
I love how Brandt & Bryce just went along with this. 😹 It seems like the real scam they pulled off is they’re “editors” and just seem like they’re all friends hanging out.

This remains one of my favorite episodes. I have even told a friend about it since he was interested in acquiring one or more of these kinds of devices.
I think it's funny how you can hear the sound recorder as it fell into the chair after Jason dropped it and immediately after Brian says "you were even dropping," referring to catchphrases, but the timing was beautiful especially since Brian didn't hear the sound of it falling.

Please try to do something on the whole "yanny" or "Laurel" fiasco
Best hidden device I ever sae was a IPhone case 3d printed that had camera built in and was replaced with original case without owner knowing.
id love to find out how the mead went

What kind of cameras?
@@rickycastillo9659any obvious security camera looking one. And any of the others in this video with the target and the first camera in the shot
"Oh you motherf&$ker, this whole thing was a setup?!?!"
God I love this channel
*this whole thing was a setup?!
(Cmon this has so many likes but is sooo wrong🙄)
The chemistry between you two is really good. Nice video guys.
Thanks!
The Spirit Monk[e]y concurs.

Thanks I really try.
The Modern Rogue I just want a friendship like you two have

The moment you realize you have a black USB port phone charger in your room.
Zaxton Hong destroy it frodo! Throw it in the fire!
I know this has probably been said before, but you guys really fill the mythbusters shaped hole in my life XD. Don't stop!
same
As soon as i started watching this it immediately reminded me of Mythbusters and i think thats why its so enjoyable to watch but in its own way.
They definitely have a Jamie/Adam vibe, except thankfully they're both a bit more Adam than Jamie. And I'm sure actually getting along helps.
Wolfin so the busters didn’t get along?
Maui Randall huh. Never knew
3:05 Fun fact: Jason and Brian have been dead for over 2 years and we've just been watching re-runs of a secret TV show they had back in 2015.
lol!
I'm glad im not the only one who noticed
Love that 😂
emmm, they not really dead are they?? Hope not :(

just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not after you...

It's amazing how you can watch everyone of their episodes and it not at all get old, the charisma of the hosts is top tier.

Only if they get scurvy to make it more realistic, lol...
Jason Murphy I second this motion this idea sounds freaking amazing
That sounds freaking awesome!!
I think the best is the usb wall plug, hiding in plain sight
It's diabolical.
Right??
Because an airplane is most likely the very _last_ place they'll check for a bug in their house... ;D
Unlike airports. Large planes can't just hide in that plane site.
I prefer the pen. Clip that onto your breast pocket and record all that you see or leave it inconspicuously on a desk
I was half expecting Jason to go, "and all of this is available in our shop!" Which would be the ultimate Moriarty play since it's Brian's shop.
*stares in awe at spy pen*
"Alright so I guess just be paranoid all the time!"

Thanks, man!
Love me some, Modern Rogue: Spy Episodes
Hopefully you guys don't turn out like mythbusters where they were pretending to enjoy each others presence. You guys are awsome stay that way❤️
I don't think it's the case, they known each other for so long and seem really good friends
Video on safecracking?
thematty I second this motion
they kinda did one on hacking the system where they crack cheap hotel safes. for decent/higher quality safes, not yet.
Love seeing how well you two handle fun pranks from each other. Awesome chemistry and stellar content
Jason did some fine acting in the beginning of the episode
The randomness of your videos, the details in the information, and just all around comedy gold is what keeps me subscribed! Keep it up!
Also we need a TMZ Cobra shirt
Heh. I think we just might.

As a neuroscientist, I'm a bit offended by them dissing TDCS. There's been a lot of good research on it. Also rTMS does have long term effects.
who was dissing it? What gave you that impression?
@1:25 "It's kind of anecdotal." It's really well studied, especially in the last 20 years. Here's a taste cognet.mit.edu/journal/10.1162/jocn_a_00979 I'm not "upset" but it is not correct to call it anecdotal.

Jason walks out like...
Why dont you take a seat.
My name is Jason Murphy with dateline.
Can that wall outlet thing charge your phone?
Yeah, it does!
but wouldn't your phone get a notification about accessing the data?
Not always. depending on your settings and if you use specific software and coding, it can bypass that warning on some operating systems
You can only access the data when you use a special cable they provideto plug it into a computer's usb, you cannot acces it with a phone
Unless you connect it's special cable to a USB OTG cable and then to your phone.
Okay i am watching your old videos, oo my god you guys are amazing, and i love your videos, thank you
That's good stuff guys.
I love the Modern Rogue Hat. You guys have the best channel on TH-cam.
God I love this show, practically has all my interests on one channel....... Wait.... I'm not a criminal! I just like sneaky things.

The Spirit Monk[e]y is beside itself at the magnificence of this episode.
His reaction to the pants is like he was a sleeper cell that got his secret code to awaken
I'm glad I subscribed for the maniacal laughter and smart content
i love how the footage in the beginning when they were talking about brain hacking says 2015 on the side but this wasn't posted until 2018
