In my many years of being an artist, I’ve found that creation seems to flow the smoothest when I’m doing it for myself rather than for the approval of others. Because as soon as you start creating on the basis of external approval, you create an endless trap for yourself. If you notice, the happiest, most successful and most prolific artists are the artists who put out albums strictly on the basis of creation, rather than commercial success.

Rushing is another form of going nowhere. I learned that in a small book called 30 Days to Overcome Procrastination by Corin Devaso. In a strange way it is important to slow down, stop, and reasses what my core values and intentions are...we procrastinate because our core beings are saying "no, I don't want to do that". Mindfulness helped me a lot with this.

To me, not having a plan is where some of my best ideas come from. You start with an idea and then it becomes what it’s suppose to be. So just jump in and accept whatever may come. Live and learn. Some pieces are just stepping stones to larger ideas. Let go and play

highlighting the creative priority as you said is really helpful. i think we tend to underestimated the "productive" cousin of procrastination and use it as a means to justify doing something without doing anything really.
for example, i want to write a book. start to finish. yes, my vocab and grammar will be lacking as it's my first time, but telling myself i have to learn more words and do english lessons before getting on is just a shadow tactic. to finish writing i have to continue writing. writing is the priority, not learning the dictionary.

I love your comments on limitation. When I have a free day, I'll make a 'To-Do' list a mile long and then promptly do nothing because I've just loaded myself up with too much. Whereas on those rare creative days, I'll just sit and do the one thing. And smash it out.
John Cleese has a great speech on creativity needing "boundaries of space and time" to be effective.

Once again great video! I am actually working on a project and yes sometimes the ideas you have in your mind are limited by this dimension (money, tools, technique..) So you focus on doing it more frugal. The most in every artistic work is the message, it must be clear whatever the practise. and simplicity is the best friend of clarity.

I needed this today. I have so many ideas for projects i’d like to start, but I can’t decide what to do first, and so end up doing nothing at all. This video served as a good reminder that I just need to pick one, set myself a deadline, and then take the pressure off by telling myself I only want to finish one project so that I can start the next, and it doesn’t have to be perfect!

Flashing light warning for fellow epileptics. Pretty much all his videos do this now, quick and constant changes from normal video to a bright white screen and back again. Set off seizures for hours for me. Such a shame to have to unsub, but the gimmick just doesn't play well with epilepsy.
