Thanks to everyone who tuned into our Live Event last week. I've never done anything like that before, and I was pretty nervous. Hope it was ok. If you saw it, it was a pretty accurate picture of what life is like at the moment. Jabez and I sit in that editing room all day, every day, editing the second Hobbit movie, and we actually start on the third next week! A lot of that movie was shot nearly a year ago, so I'm looking forward to seeing it come alive, shot by shot in the cutting room. It's like assembling one of those complex 2000 piece jigsaw puzzles. For us, this is really the being of 2013, so I look forward to posting a bunch more stuff as we work through the year. I think that an edited version of the Live Event is being made available over at the official Hobbit site, and Warner Bros have kindly let me post a 6 min excerpt here, to give everyone who missed it a sense of what it was like. Cheers, Peter J
I received the movie as an Easter present, yesterday, and was devastated to see the date of the preview was last week, so thanks for sharing some of it!
Peter, I thoroughly enjoyed what you have done so far. and, Thank You for including the back stories from the other books. It generally makes more sense.
I love how Peter Jackson just sits on the couch in his bare feet, drinking tea. He's always so chilled for a guy working on such complex movies. The way he acts you would think he was making a little project for college, rather than a multi-million blockbuster film!
Wow, Mirkwood looks EXACTLY like I'd imagined in the books. It's amazing the amount of attention to detail that PJ shows. Well done sir, and I believe the hobbit saga will the best one yet.
Mr. Peter Jackson I have to say, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart firstly for Lord of the Rings, what a masterpiece and that's such an understatement, and now for sharing your experience with The Hobbit. I'm mesmerized and most grateful.I hope you will do a lot of v-logs. Best of luck for you Sir!
Does anyone else feel like the blogs are atleast as interesting and enjoyable to watch as the movie itself? They seem to have a such a good atmoshphere there, makes u so happy :)
I think your production group did a fantastic job with the first part of the Hobbit, and I love the expansion of the story arc to explain the parts only mentioned.
If you have any footage of the Colbert/Phillipa Boyens Tolkien geek-off that was mentioned on his show, please put it into the appendices for the hobbit. I'm sure anyone who's into Tolkein enough to sit through 10 hours of appendices would be amused.
Great that Peter take the time to do these. I really dont know any other Director in films in that I get a glimps of his true normal everyday self and its great.
After much consideration, I decided the sincerest, most personal medium to express my gratitude in (for you answering my question) would be a youtube comment! So, thank you Peter... for taking the time and continuing to entertain and inspire! Blessings :)
This was very informative and enjoyable interview and entertaining ,The Hobbit was a awesome enjoyable movie .Great Job Peter.Look foward to the next one . Ill keep watching for updates.
I congratulate you. Most of my favorite Reading Tolkien books and your films.. I hope this series then you see new lines. Thank you very much for giving this pleasure. myself and other middle earth fans...
Wow, this is awsome!! I'm sure I spotted Legolas!!! And Billy, what a charm!!! Great video, thank you Peter, we the Tolkien fans just adore you, you're such a gift!!!
I have to say I was impressed for one that Colbert laid out such a deep fantasy question(who would figure) and that you didn't miss a beat on answering.. Good job!
I hadn't realized that that was the middle name Bill and Joan gave to him :) But honestly, it was quite the wonderfully surreal moment! I feel very fortunate and blessed.
I love Peter Jackson, he's got a great sense of humor and really loves his fans! I've never seen a director care so much about the fans before. The relationship he's built has earned my support for the rest of his career!
AAAAAAAh! I loved this! I can't wait to see all that stuff! I always wanted to see more of Middle Earth on screen..both lands and characters. I'm not so sure about the added characters though..like that elf lady. But we'll have to wait and see. First one was awesom!
To actually come here, get someone to guess that I like Tolkien and videogames. To be reminded of this mod for SKYRIM. You tied all my favorites together, thank you.
This was a live event available for people who bought the Blu-Ray combo packs, it was an hour long event with a tour of stone-street studios and showing off several departments, before settling down in this room for both video and live twitter Q/A
Yes without a doubt, there's actually a poster with him and Gandalf when he's a bear. Also the way how he turns into a Bear is meant to be truly amazing.
I wish I had the tardis and could time travel to Dec 2013 to watch the movie. My guts are itching with anticipation. Nice to see legolas and billy colony come back...
Peter Jackson has such a great sense of humor, even working on the films looks fun, as opposed to some directors and critics who just like a 'get in, get it done ,get out' I love all the detail. Talented!!
Peter Jackson is the best director in the world the way he does things and how he explains them is amazing and I love all his movies and I will love all the ones that he will make and Iam ready for the next Hobbit movie MIDDLE EARTH FOREVER thank you so much for what you have done and im ready to see more
"The Silmarillion" scripts on the bookshelf with the Colbert's mug and the "Star Wars VIII" folder falling out of the desk was a nice teaser :) Happy Fools' Day!
awesome :) i loved the first hobbit because it was a fun entertaining fantasy film which had so much beauty & awe in it,cant wait to see the sequel,I hope the dragon will be seen in the sequel :)
"At some point George lost his voice and we didn't realize this for weeks. When we found out, we had a joke that we would make him a little card that said 'Faster and more intense,' his primary direction." ~Carrie Fisher.
You Can see "Episode VIII" folder at 4:51 Only if you put the video at 1080p because you have a few more frames and resolution to pause clearly. The folder is printed with big black letters and it's the very last thing that drops before they show Jackson's face again. Like so people can see.
Oh Steven Colbert; I hope this means there will be even more LOTR stuff from him in the future because that would be fantastic. And it's always good to see Billy again.
These left east of Misty Mountains. Some of Nandor later reached Beleriand, Laiquendi (some of them), however, stayed in Ossiriand. These with the Sindar are signified as the Silvan Elves, although, strictly speaking, some sources identify as Silvan only those elves who stayed at Anduin and are not Laiquendi. Thus, Nandor are devided into Laiquendi and ''original'' Silvan. Into Teleri, also Falmari are counted, who reached Aman. Yes, it is a bit convoluted. I recommend The Encyclopedia Of Arda.
This was fantastic... Colbert has received a NEW FAN. I can't wait for Smaug! I feel like that's going to be Peters big reveal with all the new and adnvaced technology since LOTR! :D
OH MY GOD, Billy Boyd!! It was very nice to see him! :) And now I wonder why Legolas' didn't suggest that the fellowship should go trough Mirkwood forest. Very interesting Video!
Right, the Silvan are not only of Teleri, but also of the tribes of Avari. It is necessary to realise Sindar in Mirkwood rule Nandor + Laiquendi and Avari, who all had been therein initially, as they forsook the wandering Teleri or did not heed Orome’s call respectively. But, since Avari’s tribes are manifold, they are not usually mentioned as having anything to do with the Silvan found in Teleri, which are then devided into well-known Sindar (who all reached Beleriand) and Nandor + Laiquendi.
I'm so freaking excited for the next The Hobbit Film! Legolas coming back to the big screen. (Always nice to see him) Thranduil being all sassy & amazing. SO AMAZING... Smaug! More Adventures! Fighting! WOO! I NEED AN ADVENTURE SOMETIME SOON TOO! UGH! :)
yeah, the story line (especially film 2) will make use of branching storylines similar to the LOTR films, it uses the extensive appendices tolkien wrote with in the final page of the 3rd LOTR book.
Thanks to everyone who tuned into our Live Event last week. I've never done anything like that before, and I was pretty nervous. Hope it was ok.
If you saw it, it was a pretty accurate picture of what life is like at the moment. It looks awesome! I can't wait to see it in December! :D
go go Stephen Colbert lol
*Take your time* and always remember during cutting: _atmosphere_ is much more important than _action_. ;-)
I received the movie as an Easter present, yesterday, and was devastated to see the date of the preview was last week, so thanks for sharing some of it!
Peter, I thoroughly enjoyed what you have done so far. and, Thank You for including the back stories from the other books. It generally makes more sense.
"When Peter steals something, he likes it to be of a certain quality."
"I didn't steal it, I just happened to find it in my hand when I walked out onto the street"
See now I tried this excuse at the bank, didn't work.
Best of luck for you Sir!
great films peter i love how your still so down to earth makes us fans feel more like friends.
Colbert knows more than anyone else on not only LOTR/Hobbit, but all things Tolkien. It was so funny watching him show off 😂
there's people who know more lol
"I didn't steal it... It just so happened to be in my hand when I walked out" XD
Does anyone else feel like the blogs are atleast as interesting and enjoyable to watch as the movie itself? They seem to have a such a good atmoshphere there, makes u so happy :)
Bilbo and Thorin in the film pronounce it as "Smawg"
Bilbo: "Smawg had come"
Thorin: "The dragon Smawg has not been seen"
I think your production group did a fantastic job with the first part of the Hobbit, and I love the expansion of the story arc to explain the parts only mentioned.
At 4:50 when he fumbles for the art piece, the white packet that falls out is labelled "Star Wars Episode VIII" :/
That sentimental smile he got, like seeing a son, it was a surprisingly incredible moment.
If you have any footage of the Colbert/Phillipa Boyens Tolkien geek-off that was mentioned on his show, please put it into the appendices for the hobbit. I'm sure anyone who's into Tolkein enough to sit through 10 hours of appendices would be amused.
L-O-V-E Billy Boyd's accent!! xD Missed him
When will you upload blogs for THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES?
We still need this in 2020
Great that Peter take the time to do these. I really dont know any other Director in films in that I get a glimps of his true normal everyday self and its great.
To Colbert- "The Elves of Mirkwood are SILVAN elves man!!"
- says every Tolkien fan as they read this comment.
After much consideration, I decided the sincerest, most personal medium to express my gratitude in (for you answering my question) would be a youtube comment! So, thank you Peter... for taking the time and continuing to entertain and inspire! Blessings :)
BILLY BOYD LOOKS SO OLD :(
Honestly though, my main reason of excitement for this film is...EVANGELINE LILLY
Peter's talent is incredible. He is the reason why I became interested in film.
Wow, this is awsome!! I'm sure I spotted Legolas!!! And Billy, what a charm!!! Great video, thank you Peter, we the Tolkien fans just adore you, you're such a gift!!!
Peter Big Fan of your Work keep up the good work I can't wait to see your upcoming films
Peter, awsome job on the film, hope to see it soon in the cinema.
I have to say I was impressed for one that Colbert laid out such a deep fantasy question(who would figure) and that you didn't miss a beat on answering.. Good job!
Thank you Peter for injecting some magic into our lives :)!!
Billy! Orlando! Peter! And Stephen Colbert is a bigger geek than me!! Awesome video!!
I hadn't realized that that was the middle name Bill and Joan gave to him :) But honestly, it was quite the wonderfully surreal moment! I feel very fortunate and blessed.
That was funny & I loved seeing the artist rendition of Mirkwood. Thanks!
I love Peter Jackson, he's got a great sense of humor and really loves his fans! I've never seen a director care so much about the fans before. The relationship he's built has earned my support for the rest of his career!
Awesome stuff, good to see you again Pete
I like how he blows off half of the questions.
When Peter steals something, he likes it to be of the highest quality
AAAAAAAh! I loved this!
I can't wait to see all that stuff! I always wanted to see more of Middle Earth on screen..both lands and characters. I'm not so sure about the added characters though..like that elf lady. But we'll have to wait and see. First one was awesom!
YES! Thankyou, I want it on DVD so better to stay as a rumor.
To actually come here, get someone to guess that I like Tolkien and videogames. To be reminded of this mod for SKYRIM.
You tied all my favorites together, thank you.
Oh Peter! I just can say I LOVE YOU, thank you for everything, this things you do are greate, =)
This was a live event available for people who bought the Blu-Ray combo packs, it was an hour long event with a tour of stone-street studios and showing off several departments, before settling down in this room for both video and live twitter Q/A

You got me right in the hopes and dreams.

Love how Peter Jackson always has no shoes on...he really is a Hobbit!
Aww! If you pay attention, you can see Peter just smile when Billy asked his question :))
"When Peter steals something, he likes it to be of a certain quality." Lost it.
Great video peter! Ty for sharing.
I can't wait for the trailer. I'm so exited!!
Yes without a doubt, there's actually a poster with him and Gandalf when he's a bear. Also the way how he turns into a Bear is meant to be truly amazing.
I loved his answer. It seems there is an analogy in it that relates to the question about the Avari and Thrainduil's family.
His love for the Prog Rock legends Rush, and his affinity for marvel comics make him even cooler.
awesome! can't wait! and I love the roar at the end!
Talented!!

Your the best ever Peter Jackson keep up the amazing work
Please Peter upload more of it I was upset that I missed the whole thing I managed to see the last 10mins
It's been so nice seeing some of the green screens to the east of the Misty Mountains.
No, it's Michael Arndt.
Kasdan is being either a superviser or consultant on episode VII and will write other films.
"Are you taking that into consideration?" "I am now."
Steven Colbert's question was awesome, and Peter's answer was total win. *G*
that second question was awesome!
I'm a huge LOTR fan The Hobbit was amazing and I cried at then end. :")

OH MY GOD, Billy Boyd!! It was very nice to see him! :) And now I wonder why Legolas' didn't suggest that the fellowship should go trough Mirkwood forest. Very interesting Video!
Oh my god. I was laughing so hard and crying when Peter answered Steven.

I love all that Peter Jackson does. I am so happy he did these movies.
absolutely loved the dragon scenes in erebor !
yeah, the story line (especially film 2) will make use of branching storylines similar to the LOTR films, it uses the extensive appendices tolkien wrote with in the final page of the 3rd LOTR book.
I had a massive fangirling moment when billy came on screen xD
1:19 and we finally catch a glimpse of the Mayor of Lake Town played by Stephen Fry. And frankly, he looks PERFECT!

Peters complaining about the mugs was hilarious. XD
