    Brother. Installer here. That kicker would’ve been more than sufficient on a 12ft room. Just hold tight and ram it with your knee like it owes you money.

    I have a better idea, you can rent a power stretcher from Home Depot for $35 for 24hrs!

    That's great, but very sloooooowwwww.
    You kinda had the right idea at 1st.
    Put the short piece against the kicker so it's up top where your working, long piece against the wall, & use a $2 door hinge to attach the 2 pieces together.
    Then you can make an arc like before & push it down to stretch it. You'll be able to move along quickly.
    But don't pinch your fingers off

    I had the exact same idea. Well done! I like how you set up the jack. Trying this tomorrow. I already have a kicker.

  • @VafaGhoreyshi
    @VafaGhoreyshi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have a better idea. The jack is make you so slow. My solution is use a door hinges. Hinges should mount 4' lumber to another lumber with 7/8 length of your total length. Just imagine an horizontal y. The shorter lumber under longer one will push your kicker. Just set and push down the lumber in top.

    Power stretcher! I would think about putting some weight on the kicker to keep the teeth from ripping out. I think the problem with homemade is the teeth aren't adjustable, they only work for low pile.

    A recipe for ripping your carper. Carpet stretcher is supposed to have downward pressure. Bad idea . It may work a lot of the time but it will definitely slip and do serious damage too

    As a professional I don't recommend this

  • @moonrich3492
    @moonrich3492 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You don't need such a long 2x4. Temporarily nail a 2x4 perpendicular to your push direction and put your jack against it anywhere on the floor you like. That way you won't mess with your moldings. Leave the nail heads raised a bit to make removal with a crowbar easier. Use nails, not screws, as screws will entangle the carpet fibers.

  • @stevencannady3760
    @stevencannady3760 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Well if I were you I would have put put the shortboard against the wall put the long 2x 4 Dead center of the short one put your Mat down on the other end put the kicker top of the jack so that you can hold the head of the kicker down like you're supposed to and turn the jack at the same time

    I think a bottle jack would also work. This is great because what they charge to install carpet is a rip off

    • @usadaily135
      @usadaily135 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rip off indeed: Carpet land wanted to charge me $250 to deliver a 20 X 12 foot carpet and the cheapest (if you can find one) charges $2.50 per sq. ft! I am 69 old woman, 5ft tall but I rented a U-Haul to bring my carpet home (3 gallons of gas it took) and I am installing it! This video solved the stretching issue; I just have to figure out the seaming (iron seaming or double sided tape seaming) Nowhere near hundreds and hundreds of $$$! Too much is just too much! Pricing abuse!

    All that trouble?!! All you have to do is tuck one side & put some golf shoes on & jump towards the opposite side & tuck it! I've been installing section 8 apartments with this method for years now! & if you need a kicker take that piece of wood & a handful of nails or screws & insert them at an angle where they come out the other side. Tie a pillow around the other end & put some knee pads on & kick away!! I still don't understand why people pay for these expensive gimmick carpet tools my method works best & cheapest especially if you turn the heat up to about 95 degrees it really relaxes the carpet & makes it super easy to stretch!

    This is such a bad idea putting that much force on the head of that Knee kicker can so easily ruin the carpet. (Carpet layer for 40 years)

    On my goodness not a bad idea but put a 2by4 at least 18inches long against wall so your jack doesn't go through the wall of damage the base molding!!! You can also rent a power stretcher and most carpet tools at the home depot or rental stores.

    • @usadaily135

  • @jagerpowell453
    @jagerpowell453 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m so glad to have access to an actual stretcher… one thing I’d change is to get rid of the purple mat thing and just use another 2x4 against the base

    • @cb-cj2ke
      @cb-cj2ke 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mat keeps grease/oil off the carpet, it's not support behind the base of the jack. But I would also use a block behind the jack to protect the baseboard and spread the load.

  • @carrotcake1955
    @carrotcake1955 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I kinda thought of that. Great idea. Might want a 2x4 at baseboard behind Jack to distribute pressure. Thanks

    Hello Random, Great idea. I am thinking of replacing the carpet in one of our bedrooms. daughter and her slim got the best of it...LOL. I thought there has to be a way to stretch the carpet without renting or buying one of these large stretchers. Great Job!

  • @roberthutchins946
    @roberthutchins946 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Time you're taking to figure this out is not worth it. Go to a tool rental place and rent a strtcher. Knee kicker is a positioning tool and if you haven't used one you are not going to stretch properly and will have wrinkles in 6 months. You can also damage your carpet. Best bet is to save up and pay someone who knows what they are doing.

    I have a 4 ton autobody Porto power. I could place the rubber foot on the bottom against the wall with a rubber attachment on the opposite end. Then crank the ram. It is powerful and fast.

      I was glad to find this idea because I did go to rent one and just wasted my time as not only did I have to go out of our small town to find one, but when it got to the big box improvement store... their carpet stretcher was broken so unrentable until fixed and they had no idea when and they rent their stuff by the hour which is kinda hard when you don't live in the city.
