Mikey, the pattern is great! You make it so easy to understand. I’ve decided and have started to make a lazy wavy striped American 🇺🇸 for my son who has been in the navy for ten years so far and I love this pattern. I’m making a second American 🇺🇸 for my daughter who has been in the Air Force for eight years. I’m excited about getting them finished.
WOOHOOO! I had to rip mine starting row about 4 times before I finally got the downward part of the wave... I don't know what my mental block was, but THANK HEAVENS for this video!! I think I finally have it! Well, I have the starting row... heaven only knows how many times I'll have to rip back the next one! LOL! Thanks, Mikey, for all of the great videos!!!
Salutations! Thank you so very much for sharing yourself with the world. You are an amazing teacher and I have learned so much from watching your tutorials. You have such a relaxing, natural way of simplifying the art... which is great! I am currently making this pattern with a multi-colored yarn of fall like colors and it is so beautiful. Once again Thank You. I Appreciate You Greatly...indeed! :)
Thanks Mikey, I think I prefer this wave compared to the earlier tutorial you did. I don't have to think as hard on this one.It is a beautiful pattern for a baby blanket. Will have to try this one.
this is so easy to understand..never could figure this ripple out..Since I have been watching your videos -I Can learn, just needed to have the lessons.. Like your methods you are very good.. thanks much...
So far I've only done a test swatch for practice (24 st wide and 3 rows), and it's working out great!! I am a beginner with only 2 little granny squares and a triple crochet ruffle under my belt...and then I decided to take this on. So far so good, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! We visual learners love these tutorials. Keep 'em coming!
Hi Mikey! Thank you so much for this video! I'm a beginner crocheter and I love the wave look. This was very simple instructions. I have tried using books, or magazines, but its so much easier watching someone do this! Thank you! I will be watching your other videos as well :-)
Soooo excited. Have tried to do some sort of chevron or wave forever, and this is the first time I've been able to pull it off watching your video. Thanks!!
his is fabulous, I saw a Noah blanket, and wanted to make a different interpretation for my Grandson. We are going to have a blanket with land, sky and sea creatures, will be fun trying and experimenting anyway.
Mikey I love this video. It's easy to follow and you give clear instructions. I'm looking forward to making this pattern soon. Thank you so much for all your hardwork and dedication to the Crochet Crowd. May God bless and keep you.
Make sure after you chain up your sets of 12 you chain 3 more chain and make your first double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook...maybe you're putting it in the 5th chain by mistake? When I get stuck not counting right I add a few extra chains and then just undo them once I secure my base pattern. I saw that trick on youtube and it helped me out alot to know I can do that.
This is exactly what I needed for a baby blanket with multicolor yarn. I hope this turns out well. Will be my first time using this pattern. Thank you!
make sure you're not counting the stitch on our hook as one after you make your slip stitch ..make sure ur chaining in sets of 12 and you are going into the 4th chain from the hook for your first stitch...those are things that may through your count off...keep these things in mind and it should work out like it did for Mikey in the video... hope that helps ...Cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk :)
Hey Mikey! I just want to say this tutorial rocks! I've got 2 friends with babies on the way and this blanket will be going to one of them! Thanks for the tutorial and the idea!
i used the eritten pattern because the visual was a little confusing but so far its coming out great the pattern was very clearly showing after the first 2 rows! im making a throw for my couch for holidays so Im using different colors. thanks for posting!!!! :-)
I would stick with the never ending granny.... It's simple, will grow super fast and looks amazing when finished ..... cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk :)
hey there rita ....no worries..... there is nothing wrong with the tutorial so you can follow this and have complete success....the comments you see aren't because of errors in the pattern/ video but just people trying to make sense of the pattern and figure it out .... cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk :)
@ Brenda Courtien, sorry you were having trouble finding the written pattern for this, we usually place a link in the more info section under the video for your convenience but sometimes the links get broken over time... I fixed the link above and will give it to you here as well thecrochetcrowd.com/baby-wave/ hope that helps... Cathy@The Crochet Crowd :)
Instead of a blanket I am turning this stitch into a scarf. I bought a red heart yarn color fruit punch and I needed a stitch that will make these color pop. I think this stitch will do just that. Also I have not seen a scarf with this stitch so I wanted to try it out. :D
I found this many videos and didnt realize it was from you Mikey lol and i just finish ur pandora box blanket. lol apparently ive been self consiously enjoyin ur videos they really r easy to follow than a lot of others and if i need to stop and rewind im totally okay with that. Thank you for postin all these wonderful videos :D
Thanks for the pattern. I was so frustrated trying to follow a pattern from Mary Maxim called Baby Waves Blanket which I bought the kit. Your pattern is a lifesaver!
just finished a baby blanket using this pattern. super easy. read some of the comments posted. what a bunch of babies. directions and video couldn't be any clearer. if you're having trouble with it, just pay attention to the peaks and valleys. If you're not of the right stitch let's say for the peak, start the row over. If that doesn't work you're mistake is in the row below. thanks
your wish has come true lol....mikey has the written pattern for this on his website...if you hit "show more" under the video there is a blue link to the written pattern on the website .....cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk :)
hello.... make sure your going into the very last stitch in the row not the side of the row this will cause your edges to go funny....cathy@ the crochet crowd helped :)
after you get your chain to the sz you want it in sets of 12 you want to repeat row 1( were mikey starts doing the dc's) and row 2 alternating through out the blanket to get the ripple effect.....the written pattern on mikeys website says to repeat step 2 and 3 but its really rows 1 and 2 kind of confusing I know I hope that helps ....cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk :)
Stitch markers to mark the chain three stitch is what helped me get this right, I too took apart many times before I decided i needed to stitch marker that chain three stitch...
if you double checked and everything seems right I'm not sure why your count is off?? After you make you slip knot the loop on the hook never counts as one ...did you maybe count the slip stitch loop as one of your chain stitches? some times people do that and that can count as one of the missing stitches.if thats not the case not sure whats up re check and make sure your doing your sets of twelve to make your chain and hitting all the right stitches across..cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk
you could add a border of sc if you want or do something more fancy..its up to you ....if you search "borders Mikeyssmail" you will see the available videos mikey has for them or you could look online for ideas ....Cathy@ the crochet crowd ;)
Hey Mikey! Thank you so much for your videos I've already done a couple of the granny square videos of your and made a couple for Christmas presents. And I'm making this one for another Christmas present as well for my cousin's baby. However, I'm on row 2 and on the end I did the 3 DC in the last 3 stitches but I dont have another stitch to put in the 2 last DC and I went back and I didn't mess up all the counts were right and i even counted to see what would row 3 would look like and if...
Hi, Mikey. I am so happy to have found your videos. I like this wave pattern. I also like the endless granny square and larger wave patterns. My question is what would you say is the easiest, fastest pattern I could use to make a baby afghan? I am just beginning and don't have a lot of time before my sister's baby is going to be born.
I have literally ripped this out and have started over no less than 25 times. I've counted, I've double checked, I've used stitch markers every 12 stitches until I get the length I want, plus three and I still can't get this right. I'm extremely annoyed but I don't want to quit. I want to make an afghan with this pattern. What am I doing wrong, before poke my eyes out with my hook??
Hi Grandma Sam ... you have to open the video up in youtube to see the show more section under the video (if you click where it says youtube under the video it will open in a youtube window) once there follow the link to the written pattern... Hope that helps...Cathy@The Crochet Crowd :)
What a pleasure it was to see a gentleman showing us how to crochet!! Love it. I was wondering I see that when you first take to do a double crochet, it looks to me like you started it by going into the back of the yarn. Why do you start a double that way may I ask? Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you. I realize you posted this quite a long time ago so hoping you see this. I'm wondering if it's possible and how you would make each wave a bit longer. Can you simply increase the number of double crochets in a row from 3 to say 5 or would that screw everything up? Any ideas would be welcomed.
Should I repeat Row 3 to complete this afghan instead of rows 2 and 3? I noticed that Row 2 tells you to skip the first three double crochets. Thank you for your help
@skmiedema99 When you come to the end of your row you chain up 3 then in the same stitch under it make a dbl crochet to make two stitches together and then carry on with the pattern :) does that help?? Cathy@The Crochet Crowd Helpdesk :)
I am having to same problem when coming to the end. I end up at the top of my chain 3, is that where I need to do the double crochet. Then do the 3 chain up again? Please help, I don't want to do it wrong. I love your tutorials!!
Hi Mikey, Please help, I have been making so many mistakes, thank god you've made these vids. I will be reviewing all your vids till i get it correct. I have one question. I need to make a deep wave/ripple, how does ur therory apply to 14 up & down? can you help me to guage the correct number & to use this across,
@haylinmilsam please let me know how it turns out with the extra strand. I thought about adding a strand of a light/sport weight, but was unsure if it would bulk the blanket up, as I am attempting to make a baby blanket. I would love to know how yours ends up and see a pic if possible. Thanks
Mikey, In the written pattern, you have that "2DC in the next 2 chain, 2 DC in the next 2 chain." after the 3 DC. I'm confused. Does that just mean like what you showed in the tutorial- that you only have two sets of 2DC, or does this mean I have to do 4 sets of 2DC?
Hi ! Thanks for your channel, I'm new to crochet, and it's really been an inspiration and a great help ! I'd like to use this pattern for a scarf. Do you think I should add like a border, or something ? Do you have any specific tutorial for this kind of things ?
Hi There! You said there is a written guide for this afghan somewhere. I'm getting confused (not hard to do lol) with the video... For some of these new stitches I'm learning, the written pattern is easier once I have the basic knowledge of how to do the stitch! Thank you SO much!
Mikey: First of all, thanks so much for the video! I've admired the wave for many, many years and never tackled it. Got a question: I'm on attempt #4...Do you have any suggestions for the ripple starting out strong and wavy but ending up straight-ish?
hello mikey has a few border tutorials on youtube just search "border mikeyssmail" and they should pop up for you......cathy@ the crochet crowd help desk ;)
Is there a corrected version of the baby lazy wave afghan pattern? I noticed comments regarding errors in the pattern. I would like to start this one but would like the correct version. Thanks.

Lazy wave blanket
Hi Mikey, do you always count stitches I have made major mistakes by not counting so I learned I guess the hard way!
Is there anyway of getting a pattern? Your tutorials are so well done. I just won't remember all that you are doing. Are. You on Ravelry?

Why do you yarn over two different ways? Does it change the look?
@ Daniel Johnson I read the written pattern and it says at the end to add 2 more chains instead of 3. See if that might help.
