  • Learn how to make a Chevron, Ripple, Zig Zag Afghan in any size you wish. I used Bernat L'il Tots to demonstrate this technique throughout the video. Free pattern and diagrams are available at thecrochetcrowd...
Learn how to make this beautiful Baby Zig Zag Blanket. It is really simple to follow and I have provided details for you to be successful.
In the video tutorial, I have presented a rough note diagram that I used. There is a copy of that diagram if you wish to download it or print it for yourself.
I will take you through this in the video tutorial.
What I cannot answer for you is how much yarn you will need. If you are customizing your afghan, you will have to make that determination for you.
Use any hook size you wish, as long as it compliments the yarn.
Use any yarn you wish. I am using Bernat L’il Tots in my demonstrations. #crochet #learntocrochet #crochettutorial .
This video is closed-captioned for the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. The captioning is also available in multiple languages such as Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. The written pattern is only available in English. . *** .

This is the exact blanket pattern my gram ALWAYS did! She tried to teach me how to do it and I never caught on to it. So once I have it done, it will be a tribute to her and it will most likely be my new favorite afghan…Ty Mikey for all you do for us! ❤️

I am 70 yrs young and I have probably done more zig-zag afghan than I should have but years ago that was the main afghan to make, we didn't add on extra stitches to keep the edge straight, we just skipped 1 single crochet and as for the bottom dip we crocheted 3 single crochets together to bring them up to start the next ripple, just thought I would let you know the old fashion way of doing the ripple afghan, but I do love your way of teaching it is very easy to follow you.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I tried 3 different tutorials and ended up undoing every one of them b/c they just weren’t turning out right. Comments under one of the other videos recommended you so figured I’d give it a shot. This one is turning out beautifully! You give such clear directions and made this one a breeze for me to follow. Thank you so much!!! Once I finish this one I’m going to dig through your other tutorials for my next project 😃

I did this pattern a while ago for a full sized blanket in a double crochet and it turned out amazing. Doing it again, this time instead of skipping the two (or one) stitches in the dips, I'm actually double crocheting 3 together. This way I don't have that little gap in between the chevrons. It's working even better.
For people who want to use a double crochet instead of a single crochet - your chain should be number of chevrons x 25 (I'm actually using 27 because I like 12 more than 11). At the end, add on 4 additional chains. Then chain 3, double crochet in 5th chain from hook follow pattern as described.

Thank you SO MUCH! I have looked for this pattern, literally, for years. 27 years ago, my ex mother-in-law made a blanket just like this for my daughter. Five years ago, I got back into crocheting and that blanket is one reason I did: because it's STILL in great shape and I wanted to make things that will last.
Since then, I have tried to figure out which version of the zig-zag / Chevron / ripple stitch it was-- but could never find it. I've tried several. And, while they're nice, they lacked the specific look I wanted.
    This is it. Thank you.

Mikey, thank goodness you still had this video up! I had forgotten how to do this stitch! I started my KING SIZED blanket last night and looked at it this morning knowing there was something VERY WRONG with it. I figured out what I did, after ripping out half of my 10.5 ounce Bernat Blanket Big Ball (180 stitches across, size Q hook) I'm starting all over! I'm just so thankful this is still up! I think I will probably use at least 25-30 balls of yarn for my king sized blanket. We are putting it on our bed and using it instead of a comforter, so it will almost hang to the floor!

Mikey, I, think, after too many viewings of this video tutorial, I may just have it finally. I still struggle with the turning at each end though. After 53 years of trying to figure it out-getting nowhere near the understanding of what to do exactly, I may just "throw in the towel" and learn a new craft! My being left handed and crocheting left handedly backwards-left to right has only aided to the exasperation to the challenge. I'm a guy on top of it all. You can only beat your head into a cement wall at top speed for so long before you find no relief from the pain in your head from the frustrations, I will keep trying though(I must be out of my "rabid-ass" mind, or is that being a glutton for punishment). Doug😵🥺

In my experience, it will relax and flatten with use/washing! "Fresh" crochet items tend to curl for whatever reason (usually you have tighter stitches, which is fine because they will loosen over time so you don't want them super loose to start) and as it loosens and relaxes it will completely flatten over time and you'll see those curls go away

This is a great and very easy to follow tutoria. Thank you! I did hsve some questions. How do you fill the top and bottom chevron portions when you are finished, so it's a rectangular throw? I'm a total newbie and would like to see how you change the yarn and add the border. Thanks

I love this. Very easy to follow. I want to make strips of two chevrons for my blanket and breaking it down like this is awesome. I was wonder though do I have to add another stitch at the end if I want to do half double crochet instead of single crochet?

Can you use Double or Triple Crochet stitches instead of Single Crochet stitch to make the top and bottom curves? Great video by the way!
