Any high velocity cartridge will defeat older helmets. Back in 2002 when NATO was considering adopting the 5.7x28 it was a requirement that it could penetrate Kevlar Helmets at 200m, it passed with flying colors due to the velocity even though by 200 meters it was making less than 200ftlbs of energy.
it would zip right through at 400 or 500 yards. M855 went through 2x as many layers of kevlar 3a body armor as the 77 grain 5.56. 3 vs 7 layers if I remember correctly, when I tested it. I have the video footage, but just haven’t edited it into a usable video yet. The military wanted M855 for penetrating helmets (and other things at distance), so I’m not surprised on how well it went through soft armor.
This video reminds me of the good old days of gun youtube... actually interesting video ideas. Really enjoyed this one.
thanks! I remember those days too 😀
Yep it does I got a lot of old steel helmets etc so it’s nice to know some of the newer ones are not that bad lol
@@Danny344S Good old steel helmet can still be viable 👍
@@poortac5568 100% I got a mix of old helmets and I just got a new helmet recently that is ballistic
0:27 As a German that is a helmet of the Netherlands because of the name
Good to know! It was labeled as German military surplus on Sportsman’s Guide, where I bought it 👍
One of your best videos
thanks! 😀

velocity is king with soft armor 😎
Would love to see m855 at 400yds vs that helmet

If I re-spray painted them, and put ARC rails on them, could I wear them around?
I dont think an Arc rail would fit on them. They are a different shape than US made helmets.
@@poortac5568 hair dryer would make it happen 😂
@@poortac5568 I was hoping you would catch the joke. The two you have are no damaged, so spray paint wouldn't fix them. LOL
@@jhutch1470 oh, gotcha 😂😂😂
I understand German ww2 helmets were more efficient and more expensive to make than USA helmets
@@tigerpisces5506 I have one my Great Grandfather brought back, but Im definitely not shooting it 😂
