Clay is the standard backing medium for testing of ballistic armor for the ability to illustrate deformation and force. it looks like he is using the exact same stuff as the professional testing for NIJ rating of armor. Gun tubers do use it sometimes. Especially those who are actually dedicated to testing armor thoroughly, like B.U.F.F.MAN RANGE for example.

One thing to take note of from my years doing carbon composite parts for Formula sae is that your epoxy is very very important to the strength/fire resistance, etc. of your parts. Choosing the right epoxy with the right strength characteristics is just as important as the built/layering of your parts. This isn't as touched upon and is extremely important. Thats why some carbon fiber parts can deal with high heat and others can't. Also easy thing to remember is thag the longer an epoxy takes to set and cure usually the stronger it is. That why when u go to the store and looked at the 5min epoxy vs the 24hr epoxy, the psi ratings will be higher on the longer cure time epoxy.

I think sometimes when we know a lot about a subject we forget that other people may not know completely the details and background of where we are coming from. Most people have no clue about composite structures. I just wanted to emphasize the point further.

Hey man cool stuff. Two little tips that you may or may not try but look up a aluminum bubble roller for fiberglass instead of the rolling pin. Second is when you get the itchy stuff on your arms, just get a cheap facial razor and shave your arms or wherever your itching . The razor will shave your hairs off , but it will pull fiberglass and carbon fiber strains out of your skin. Been dealing with fiberglass since 1990. Worked in the body shops and boat repair industries a while . A Guy named Dale Whiteman that wrote a book on working fiberglass taught me a few things back then. I've worked on a lot of Race cars too. I built and designed the hood on the Street outlaws car named the Shocker, so not a keyboard smartass . Your doing cool stuff man. 👍👍

Over on my channel, we're developing real MJOLNIR and ODST armor (as close as is possible with modern technology), and the work you've done here could apply spectacularly well with the ODST Armor. I would recommend making separate chest and ab plates that fit over each other like scales for mobility, coated with something like Kevlar and truck bed liner to catch any spalling that might go up between the layers.
It’s slightly less protection but you can actually move, kick, sit, roll… fight! Haha

You could get a lot more flexibility if you were to make it two or even three segmented pieces rivited together so they can flex (think platemail segmenting). If you overlap them then the gaps would be negligible and you would be able to crunch your middle a bit. Getting in and out of cover without being able to bend your core is hard.

  • @jacobluden3903
    @jacobluden3903 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

I wanna preface with how awesome this is, but I was thinking that, with the angle of the chest area, you might want to introduce something to avoid spawling damage to your neck. A slight lip/ throat guard might look cool or maybe just some kind of tough rubber coating like many ceramic plates have.

  • @Whysoserious1608

Also when u use the vacuum bag it can keep the shape of the mold and not possibly deflect when under high vacuum pressures.

What are the material they use in tanks that stops tungsten rods from going through it. Is glass. The Sandwich Glass between the layers of steel. Which makes sense because as the bullet if you will hits it it starts to grab and deform the bullet from its weird properties that it has. You may want to try this and see if you can get it to start marrying the bullet to where the fibers can do a better job of grabbing it. I'm not your average individual I've done research and development for the greater part of my adult life. 1st and military then in medical. Great work. Please keep it up

🙌 I wonder if the dragon skin bpv vest system would would work with fiberglass. Just overlapping hexagons from one vest glued to another. They used ceramic plates but remember even Chinese paper armor was layered.

If you're curious on some super armor that stopped multiple .300WM / 1 oz slugs, .308, and lots of .556 & 10mm check out my strongest armor build yet! th-cam.com/video/LmA3PBEyu3g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pg8x8O54OtT97LtU

If you can combine your body armor manufacturing techniques and materials with a secondary layer and a soft body armor option a way that would allow for more flexibility in the core and midrift section Without sacrificing ballistic protection, I think you would have something that's highly marketable to civilians as well as law enforcement and military and the defense industry. The reason modern plate carriers don't really cover the abdomen so well it's because there's a need for torso flexibility in military operations. So if you could create a body armor system that allows for flexibility and full range of motion without sacrificing ballistic protection I think you would have something that everybody wants.

For anyone wanting to know an easier and more efficient method of doing this, I recommend ZNA Productions on TH-cam. He once built a body armor plate for $30 which stopped shotgun slugs. It DIDNT stop an AR-15, but its still very surprising. Another downside to ZNA’s design is that it’s not form-fitted, and he used actual bulletproof plates to form his own diy one, which negates the point of making one of you already have one. But a person could make their own forms for it. Definitely recommend giving his video a watch. No disrespect to this guy tho, still awesome and I love to see different approaches.

This will stop 12 ga as well with just a couple more layers. Additionally, my plate shown last month stops magazines of steel core .556 (AR 15), .308, 12 ga slugs, and even X2 .300 Winchester Magnum FMJ which can puncture even AR500 plates.

Wow - this is really cool. I feel like this is the exterior shell of a large suit of power armor with the metal molecular structure underneath it. The big question is, of course, all that ballistic force is transferred into a pressure wave into the body. How could it be dispersed without breaking a person's body? And that is the million dollar question

You could probably even put soft armor behind this for even more protection!

You may be able to use a taguchi array or other intelligent experimental design to reduce the growth in combinations you need to try.

could you try this with a more rounded form rather than sculpted to the chest?
it might be more effective due to it being able to deflect things more easily
