    I like the brighter tone of the Behringer. I'm guessing that with a little eq, you could make it sound the same as an SL57. The SL57 doesn't sound "flatter" to me, it sounds darker. I've always felt like the SL57s have a rolled off top end.

    • @robbirose7032

    Great honest review. Behringer products do have a place, but you get what you pay for. In my cover band days (driving over many parts of Ireland at weekends) we used Behringer noise gates and compressors on drums, did the job but at the back of my mind I was always afraid they would break. As for their mics, handy to have as a backup, however we never needed to use a backup, as our 57s and 58s never let us down. Even the beta 58 which is supposed to be less reliable never missed a beat and covered many miles on the road. Buy cheap, buy twice.

      Hey Brad! Big fan of yours, here! About the SM57, it depends what you use it for. You can get very good results if you find the perfect spot where to place it and, if needed, you can always use some EQ to get rid of those 350Hz to 450Hz that make some sources sound "boxy" and add some top end frequencies....but you know all this! I've seen your videos, you're a smart guy, so that's why I was surprised when I read your comment.

    • @aragorn767
      @aragorn767 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are better mics for all applications than the 57. The Audix D6 is a better kick mic, the Lewitt DTP 440 DM is a better snare mic, the Telefunken M80's are better tom mics, the ATM 450 and Warm Audio 87's are better cymbal and room mics, the SM7B is a better vocal mic, MXL makes better mics for acoustic instruments, ect. The difference is that the SM57 is one of the only mics that sound atleast pretty good in almost all situations, which can't be said for the others. I've even heard of 57's used on kicks (not in metal, though. I think it was old R&B or something similar).

    • @aragorn767
      @aragorn767 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should mention, I completely agree with you. I'm just saying the sole selling point of the 57 is that you'll save money, since you won't have to buy 30 different mics.

    I use one of these for a snare mic instead of a 57 just for that hyped hi end. The body is thicker but it resonates like crazy when it gets touched or bumped so I filled it with epoxy and it stopped the issue and cleaned up the sound a bit. I liked how it sounded when you were speaking as well. Never tried it on vocals or guitar.

    I will say this: when I was 16 years old, I wish I could take the 100 bucks that took me forever to save up and use that money to get 5 of these mics and be able to record a whole drumkit as well as two guitar amps at the same time instead of getting only one Shure SM57! Do they sound like an SM57? No but with some clever EQ, you can get pretty close.

    The headbasket spinning has a purpose. It makes it able to take more abuse. If the mic takes a fall or gets hit by a drumstick it has some give so it won't crack.

Handy on a tom, or overhead(if its all i had) or room mic. Not at all bad on guitar, or snare. Better options, but not bad. And the price, you can get 2 and youll probably use them. Buying a bunch of 57s or similar is expensive.
