Hali is running out of money and is forced to play "safer" or be forced to throw, Ephesos is forced to build wonder all the way, which is good for the guild. Palace would be okay here, but I would argue the guild isn't.
If any of my neighbors try to play Palace they are going completely bankrupt (8 for ephesos, 5 for hali), I agree that Palace is good play, but I still like my line a bit better. Try to think about it this way how many times have you made "safer" picks because you were going out of money and decided for safer option instead of more risky better scoring one.

The haven play over palace (paying ephesos) was interesting. Age 3 was wild with those four unbuildable guilds around.

I dont understand about the haven. Why would they want to build haven, it is 1 gold for them. Would anything change if you build palace first?

i don't like hat Haven pick at all, should be palace and pay everything to Ephesos

Yeah I HATE Olympia in 2e. I don't want to git gud I just want a serviceable wonder.
But it is serviceable on the A side, B side was behind in 4P in the old edition as well.
@@WonderfulPlays I actually really liked the guaranteed trading post and potential guild.
I really understand that it was something a lot of people liked, but the power level and most important consistency just wasn't there for that side.
