Indoor Rowing Apps You May Not Know About

  • I've made videos about indoor rowing apps like Ergzone and Ergdata, but here are a few others I have on my phone
    I seem to pick up rowing apps like stray dogs - but unlike the dog, if it doesn't offer me something new, I just forget about it. This means I've got a bunch of apps that I've maybe not used for a good couple of years.
    So in this video, I jump back into a few of them, and see what they're like now.
    This isn't an axhaustive list of apps that are available - so please if you know of another app you'd like me to look at, just ask.

    🔵🔵🔵 SHOWING SUPPORT FOR ROWALONG 🔵🔵🔵
    I've been asked a few times about the best way to support what I'm doing. Honestly, the best way is just to watch and subscribe using this link: www.youtube.co...)
    More views lead to more views - and I'm really just interested in getting more people on board to RowAlong with. (Make sure to click the notification bell to be alerted when I upload new workouts)
    That said, I know that there are some people who want to show their support financially, and as much as I've shied away from giving out links to this before - I've been advised to at least provide the links - to stop someone spoofing me!! So....
    Patreon: / rowalong
    PayPal: www.paypal.com....
    But seriously - just keep watching, that's all I ask!!
    🔵🔵🔵
    This workout is provided as usual WITHOUT MUSIC. If you want music, why not load up another TH-cam tab, or maybe Soundcloud and pick your own tunes. As always, follow me for stroke rate. And I'll keep you company for the row with training tips, technique tips, and my usual general waffle.
    For more information about drag factor, the plans and what this is all about, head to www.rowalong.com For more about indoor rowing in general, go to www.indoorrowinginfo.com

    I've not reviewed Ergzone or Ergdata in this one, as I talk about them a LOT - with lots of other videos using them. If you know of another app I should look at, just get in touch.

    I really love using EXR. I rarely row without connecting to that app. It keeps me entertained and I find it a lot of fun. I’ve been using it for a year now and will definitely update my subscription for another year.

    Thanks for reviewing asensei John, appreciate it. It is worth mentioning that most of our workouts these days are full row-along sessions with coaching and talking all the way through from the likes of Eric Murray, Johan Quie and British Rowing. There are some you can try in the free trial too. These are similar to Eric's free row-along sessions on the asensei youtube channel - indeed some of those sessions are pulled into the app and have the goal setting, music, tracking etc fully integrated. Would be happy to talk you through any of this if you ever want to do a more in-depth piece, or just catch up. Nice to hear a Scottish voice doing a review too (two of the asensei founders also Scottish)!

    Asensei is a great app but the packaging up of the workouts on the C2 logbook bugs me. Last time I checked It sends everything as one workout, warmup, main workout and cool down all combined. I think you can see the individual paces within the workout but I want the warmup to be completely separate from the main piece. Dealbreaker for me, may not be for other people. Eric is great, his weekly workouts on the asensei channel are brilliant

    thx for reviewing Calorie quest John.
    I would be happy to give more info about it as you miss the purpose of the two main modes :)

      Hey Kévin. That would be great! I really just wanted to make very quick pieces showing that there are lots of apps out there. But each one of them (like Calorie Quest) deserve a longer video.

    I have the same problem with Swelldone.... gets to 100% and doesn't load the game. Have to close the app and restart several times for it to work. Hope they solve it, as it's reasonable when it gets going (except I'm using a paddling adapter on my C2 which doesn't recognize stroke rate correctly... and the distance is way different on the app than the erg... perhaps it accounts for wind... trying to figure that out.)

    Quite a mixed bag of apps there. Nothing that really makes me want to spend any money.

      IC Row shows great promise as a visual distraction. But I'm still sticking with Ergzone right now just for data.

    In short, several bucks a month for this, that, Netflix subscription, some more app subscriptions and several hundreds of bucks less in pocket. I an kinda allergic to all these "subscription items". Especially, when you pay for purchase and after it you have to pay subscription monthly for the purchased equipment is usable at all. Everything is a paid subscription... Nightmare.
    You can always train for free. At least on a decent rower. Effects for health and fitness will be exactly the same.

    • @rowalong
      @rowalong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly. And it's one of the reasons the C2 is so amazing. Buy it - and then there's nothing else to pay. It's the third party people trying to enhance something that doesn't really need enhanced that are all scrabbling for our spare cash!

      Another reason why C2 really is the only choice, the PM5 is more than adequate, it's perfect and the app plus online web interface is wonderful, I like to sit at my PC on a bigger screen to view my C2 stats@@rowalong

    Advice someone please.
    Is it definitely worth upgrading my PM3 to a PM5?
    I'd prefer not to fork out £150-odd, especially if my PM3 will connect to these apps if I use a cable.

    • @rowalong
      @rowalong  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are only a few apps that connect via cable. And if you’re on iPhone, you need a very special cable.
      If you want to use apps, then the upgrade is worth it. If you’re not bothered, and you’re ok just with something like RowPro on a computer, then don’t worry about it.

      Yes, there are many hardware improvements in the PM5 over the PM3 aside from the addition of Bluetooth for connecting with apps.

    What’s rowpro for iPhone like?

    • @rowalong
      @rowalong  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean the MyRowPro app? It’s a way to join and make sessions for the main PC/Max software, rather than a way to race others. They don’t have an phone version of that yet.
      The MyRowPro app will allow you to set up a row for your own training, but not a multi-user row.
      I may make a video about this, just to add another app onto the list!
