Wow, two of my favorite channels got together. Literally, rowing and gardening are my exclusive post-COVID hobbies- only things I do aside from work. Both of these gentlemen's contents are gold!
Shane , I’ve been rowing for years off and on., now 62. Self taught on the erg in my 30s and would row at the gym intermittently. Now I’ve got an ERG in them living r,oom. Originally I thought increasing stroke rate with the damper on a 10 was how you did it. I’ve improved immensely since focusing on stroke rate in your advanced work outs. And now understand how to generate power and resilience on the machine. I decided to watch you teach beginners and picked some nuances in my ow n form that I need to focus on. This is an excellent video! Thanks Mark
I honestly didn’t think I was going to notice the difference between push & pull, but that first stroke I immediately was like NOPE THAT WAS A PULL. LOL just got our first rower and your video taught me so much, thank you!

@@utfarley7563 My Concept2 BikeErg is coming on Friday been on the waitlist since late July. I've had the C2 rower for years - best $1k I ever spent. From what I hear the bikeerg is a blast. Enjoy your new toy!
I'm a new rower this video was gold thanks! I was having trouble with feeling the power in the legs and over stimulating the biceps. A solution I discovered was wearing out the legs by doing some squats before hand. Although the workout was slower after the squats, I could now feeling how the activation and drive of the legs is supposed to feel. My split has been improving ever since and arms have been getting less tired.
This is one hundred percent my problem - my biceps are on fire and I don't feel like I'm getting much stress on the legs and they're suddenly straight. Still trying to figure it out.

This video helped me ALOT! I was death-gripping the bar such that I was getting calluses on both my hands. The loose grip works MUCH better! I only had my rowing machine for 3 weeks, but with correct technique, it seems like rowing is much easier. I started going barefoot with no straps, and my feet NEVER slips off the pedals! Had me at the barefoot part. Have rowed a lot in various classes (crossfit, orangetheory, crap gyms), but tonight just setup my rower, did a couple of 1k runs in shoes. Then came back to test a couple of apps, but barefoot, and thought, is this wrong, because it feels so right.

Also, I seem to slouch (I think that is the word you used) to sit too far back on my rump which after time causes discomfort in my coccyx area. If you have any thoughts - thanks.
