      It's popular because when its done well it looks old and authentic and people like furniture with a sense of history. Sorry to say the distressing of this piece wasn't done well 😕

    I really love your videos. I'm learning a lot ! Personally, I'm over the distressed look. I'm redoing my coffee table and end tables. I'm using farm house colors; but, I'm not distressing them. I have an end table done and it looks new .. not like I pulled it out of my back room. But, that's just me. If Pinterest Search is showing such a high search volume for distressed.. I'd say to continue to sell it. Variety is the spice of life !

      This piece is probably from the 1950’s, I have my parents bedroom set from that time and it’s almost identical to this piece, even same hardware. Built very well.

    • @Cathy_MidwestHome_Hens
      @Cathy_MidwestHome_Hens ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve actually seen super cheap furniture with dovetails. I think furniture makers caught on that people look for dovetails as a sign of quality so they do that even though the rest is junk lol….I’m not saying this piece is junk just saying there are a lot of other aspects to quality furniture as well. A lot of Broyhill and Ethan Allen pieces are crap. Almost completely pressed wood covered in veneer and not even good veneer

    I have loved milk paint since I first started painting and reusing furniture in the 70s because we were newly married. It is durable as heck! I always put a sealer of some type where it would be touched the most because it absorbs oils from skin etc… other than that nothing, unless I put a stain over it. This paint will last forever.
    On the sanding, I love when it is where notmal use over the years happen but not just sanding randomly. Some people have the most horrible spotted pieces!
    Keep up your good work,glad this has all worked for you and you can stay home with your kiddos.

      it could mean 2 things: the price is too high for the item OR it is a seaon where people aren't activly buying. Right now we are in the lull after xmas so it will take a few more weeks to pick up again. You could try to mark it down or hold on to it and relist it in mid feb.

    For my guest room I bought a used long (not tall) dresser. The seller said hardly anybody buys the long ones, mostly tall, upright dressers. So my question is (!) do you steer away from any furniture in particular because it just doesn't move? P.S. l might have done this piece in a strong eggyoke yellow! Isn't that nutty? Lol! You're the best!

    • @LemonstoLemonadeFurniture
      @LemonstoLemonadeFurniture  ปีที่แล้ว

      Egg yolk Tuscan yum .there's no rules any more .when my freind 1st started flipping furniture over 20 years she only did high boy dressers / for storage spacing as well as perceived spacing of people but it took me 6months of convincing that the Copenhagen furn. Etc west elm never went out of business . Which of course dealt in long furniture and started picking back up because of the 4 ft large screen TVs so... she started doing long dressers learned how to up end them safely on a dolly from me .bought a truck to accommodate this new venture .yep and basically didn't need me anymore. Taught her to fish too well lol

    Australia, or at least here abouts, distressing isn't really the thing. For that matter 'Farm House' isn't the thing either even in rural areas. Perhaps because the young culture has moved forward into the tech world and left where we came from behind and forgotten. You have a great imagination, I would not have thought to do something like this and to be really honest although I think it looks good and would attract some tastes, this 71 year old, respectfully, doesn't like it. Stay safe until next time. Luci

    Farmhouse is never going out of style the same way antiques won't go out of style. There's always a place for rustic, distressed, yet expensive-looking textiles and decor. I know Pretty_Distressed mentioned Farmhouse being passé or off-trend or something to that extent, but I think more than anything the current trend (boho) is an updated beige/mauve/sage (and other muted, earthy tones) fusion edit of Farmhouse and Bohemian. 🤷🏼‍♀️ My $0.02. I LOVE how this piece turned out either way. I think everything looks better with a "lived in" look. 🧡

      As I heard one interior decorator say, farmhouse won’t go out of style for your home, if your home makes sense to have a farmhouse style. In the same way if you live in a skyscraper that 90s glass table and metal look will be a modern style that is still in style for your living situation. Right now architecture is the focus of home decor and people are trying to match their furniture to the architecture or year the house was built. For many people with a mid century modern home, they are going mid century furniture and Decour. For those with a more Victorian or 1920s home they’re going more classic with Grand millennial both bringing back the rich stains of dark woods and marbles. I think the key and what doesn’t go out of style is to keep it real and authentic feeling for the home. It’s not wrong for a suburban house to want to be any of those three styles, as long as they authentically dedicate the home to it till it makes sense and doesn’t look added randomly because it was chasing a trend.

      Agreed the sanding/distressing is in the wrong places and to heavy handed. It should be subtle and where the piece would normally wear over time. Don't like the mahagony red coming through either. An undercoat colour is need first so you that you send back to that colour... Or you sand back to raw wood instead. Sorry 😕

    Love you and your channel. I live in the DFW metroplex and love flipping furniture too. But l didn't like this end result. I just don't like the sanding over the paint, it's redundant to me.

    Oh! 😳 But that's cool, actually - farmhouse is sooooo forgiving and quick to paint. Thanks for the info 😉
