In these days (2010) KLM operated an MD-11 into SXM, this flight continued to Bonaire. So this concerns just a routine flight! In October 2011 the type of aircraft used on this route changed (back) into a 744 that consequently continued its flight to Curaçao. From next October (2016) on, the flight from Amsterdam to St. Martin will be operated with an A330. The return flight to Amsterdam will be a direct flight!
the magnificent md11! What I heard is that it's a beast to land in crosswindy conditions, so kudos to the pilot

There were two flights:
One flight KL 765 747-400 AMS-SXM-CUR
Second KL 763 AMS-SXM-BON
now they operate with A330-200
