- KLM MD-11 taking off from St. Maarten's Princess Juliana Airport bound for Kralendijk, Bonaire and Amsterdam on 25th Sept 2009. Note the captains comment about St.Maartens short runway, the aircrafts pretty light weight, full takeoff thrust and the ferrari fealing to expect ( it felt as a rocket :-)
One of the best takeoffs I have ever seen.
During the first 5 seconds of takeoff, I was like holy shit thats fast!!
Golden years of aviation!!! Awesome take off!
There is nothing I don't like about this clip! Beautiful plane (MD-11/DC-10s are amazing) beautiful island, and even a humorous flight crew. Great clip!
I dont like the damn crying baby
DC = death cruiser
If the MD-80's the Maddog- then the MD-11 is definitely the Mad Beast!! Amazing!
Mad Devil is more like it!
Actually, Delta called them "Mighty Dogs".
That did look intense, the MD-11 reminds me a lot of a 777-200 with a third engine!
The MD-11 has some of the most powerful jet engines on any commercial aircraft. Lots of fun to fly in, too bad they never we're popular in passenger use.
Definitely not
But has 3 engines thus power to weight ratio is good
Oh they definitely don’t, at all.
They are not unusual, it's because md-11 has 3 of them not 2.
Awesome! I kinda feel like the pilots used the 'short' runway as an excuse to see just how fast they could take off with a light weight :P
Did anyone else get shivers down their spine when the co-pilot announced they'd be taking off with full thrust? Roar, baby, ROAR!!
I love this video! As the plane is positioning itself for takeoff, you can see some the beachgoeros in the background that are about to be blasted by the jet blast. They come to this beach particularly to watch the incoming planes land and go right over them. But they also do "fence surfing," meaning they hold onto a chain link fence while jets are taking off right across the street from them. Some people have been literally knocked down by the jet blast during the takeoffs. It sounds like fun!
my favorite takeoff video on youtube. AWESOME!!
what an amazing video !! it's crazy how much difference full thrust and low weight can do to takeoff and climb speed. kudos to your filming !! ✈✈
powerful and beautiful
Looks like a beautiful departure, I've always wanted to go to St. Maarten.
Very athletic MD-11! By 3:12 in this video you are looking back at runway you took off from. Much faster and higher rate of climb than a 47 filmed from on TH-cam.
One of my favourite videos… never seen a faster accelerating commercial airliner, the way the MD11 picked up speed was like nothing else in my opinion… a real shame I never got to fly on one.
My Most Favorite Beloved Aircraft Ever Built..
Wow, great video. The Md-11, nothing like that sexy beast. My favorite.
I'm from Portugal, when i search to go to st marten it appears just air france, i go to the klm web site, search a lot of dates but no one works to go to st marten with KLM. Does anyone knows if KLM stills go to St Marten?
The only other time i've seen something like this is with the space shuttle launch!!!
The bird took just 20 seconds for lift off, WOW love the MD-11!!!
This is a smooooooooth aircraft!!! The MD-11 is a wide body, three engine, different kind of airliner that gives some VARIETY to the Boeing and Airbus monopoly. RESURECT McDONNELL DOUGLAS FOR HEAVENS SAKE!!!!!!!!
Was*
@@benjaminbrown3939 No need to say “was” this comment is from 7 years ago so MD-11 still operated passenger service that time and its still operating today for cargo so no need to say “was”
@@mig0yy there no passenger variant of the MD 11, only the cargo variant. Tell me one airline that still uses this plane?
@@united1super544 read the original comment of Darkton80 then read my reply again lmao
I literally said “this comment is from 7 years ago” so no need to say was because it still operated passenger service 7 YEARS AGO lmao think before you comment
@@mig0yy shut up man. Whatever your replying to a comment made 7 years ago. Smh
This kicks ass!!!!!!!!!! One of the BEST takeoff videos I've ever seen on YT!!!!!!!! Great audio and video quality!! Thanks for posting this......it totally ROCKS!!!!!!
ur weird
Mooi,
welke camera gebruik je
Yes, the Md-11 is still in service with KLM. It should be around for a few more years. I know KLM is looking for a replacement for it, though. KLM is looking to replace the MD-11 with the A-350 or the 787, but with how many delays the 787 has encountered, the MD-11 will be around for a while. I hope you get to fly in it.
I soil the seat just looking at the acceleration there :D great vid
Left me breathless. WOW!
Technically, probably not.. KL's M11s don't have a bump... more like 90-92% thrust with an assumed temperature, which the throttles would register as "full."
Miss these planes!
Awesome! Also,. Like the captain explaining what can be expected, helps the passangers
So quick and powerful takeoff!
Rotate after 25 seconds. UNBELEAVABLE!!!!
2:05 takeoff begin, 2:31 rotate, 26 SECONDS TAKEOFF
S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G video clip here. Pushes all my buttons too: Great aircraft. Great location. Filming is excellent. Nice Work!
eispinguin, you other video of landing at St. Maarten (on American Airlines). Do you come to St Maarten often? Other than beaches, what other attractions does St. Maarten have? I like this vid. Aircraft just lifted airborne and it banked right - mountain up ahead. . . .
if u did mean dc-10 and md-11, the difference is the md-11 has a stretched fuselage, increased wingspan, upgraded engines, and a modernized flight deck.
Heard some bad news and that is that the MD-11 is now being retired. They took out one of their MD-11's in late July.
That was a very nice take off, and initial right turn! Great view. By the time the airplane rolled level, the left side was was just hills. Very nice video as well!
sweet!!! nice clear video super take off!! now added to favorites.
thank's for posting .....!!!!!!
Flaps back to 0 before levelling off! These pilots must love this flight
20 seconds from full thrust to airbourne. What a rocket!!!!!
Amazing! It's beautiful! And the MD-11, lovely... Lucky you!
This is not a Ferrari feeling. This is the power and feeling of JET ENGINES!
AMAZING, NO WORDS!
@wesselg2 Thanks, i understood. I was searching flights Lisbon - Saint Marteen, and there are no flights from Lisbon to Amsterdam before the B747 by KLM departure.
one of my fav takeoff videos :D
WOW, superfast takeoff! Nice!
Before takeoff checklist:
- Flaps... check
- Flight controls... check
- Engine thrust parameters... check
- Crying baby... check
-Uncontrollable airplane...
Check
-Short Runway...
Check
-cargo door secure...
Check
An MD-80 transatlantic, or are you referring to domestic flights you've been on?
the md11 is one of the fastest commercial airplanes now i know that it feels like an rocket with an speed of 1150 kp/h is it very fast
@Mrjoaosousa1 Yes, klm goes there almost every day. St Maarten is half Dutch, so it's stil a destination for Holland.
2 people were blown away at the beach.
Man, I wish I could have experienced that!
No problem. I think the cabin will be very different indeed, though, seeing as the MD-80 is so much smaller than the MD-11 and is a narrow-bodied aircraft.
@spaansewater There is no way to a flight Lisbon-Amsterdam-St Marteen in the same day. I've got to go to Amsterdam 1 day before the departure to St Marteen
A beautiful takeoff.
It's just a matter of weight. I think that thing had about 160to Takeoff weight (~150pax + 20to trip fuel), thats about ~120to below MTOW. with 2/3 of MTOW that overpowered beast is a like-a-rocket!
incredible climb gradient!
That has got to be the fastest, most powerful climb I've seen. Eat dust, A343, well done MD-11!
Holy shit. I came.
I favorited this video 5 times. No joke.
what a unbelieveable fast take off...awesome...sooo fast...i not wondering what a power the MD 11 have ;-)
Powerful aircraft with bad-ass look❤
i only have one thing to say"wheeeeeeee''the end.
woooooooow that was faaast did you chill at maho beach?
I loved the MD11s
look at those clouds! awesome!
talk about speed, power, and beauty
yeah. I always end up with an MD80 so the cabin experience shouldn't be too different. I got a Delta 767 coming back.
I'm flying on this in the summer. Kinda spooked seeing that most airlines got rid of their MD-11s. Last time I went transatlantic, I was in a 777. Well shit...
20 SECONDS OF RUNNING AND ROTATE...WOW..
0:35 st barthelemy airport??
I once travelled from SXM to Pointe A Pitre on an Air france 747-400 (on low fuel for just the 20 minutes flight plus reserves), despite the short runway and light weight the take off didn't feel any different, really.
Hey... that flight attendant wasn't joking lol
I like how everyone is a pilot on youtube
i flew on an md 11 from Dallas to Miami....i got upgraded to the first class section because of a missed leg..It seemed really powerful and safe..i dunno..it seemed really safe and powerful to me
Md11 is anything but safe.
@@benjaminbrown3939 that’s absolutely false, the DC-10 well ok, the MD-11 was perfectly fine
Amazing view up there
Thats a nice takeoff. Dont know if "the runway is short" or "we dont have to much fuel" is what you want to hear. But nice!
Now that was a fast takeoff!! :)
cool video. Thanks for sharing with us.
whoa dude!!! nice vid. where do you get the money to do that!! Its a dream for me, but idk if ill ever get enough money.
where are you from?
Love this video :)
What seat qas that?
Echt een pracht video!!!! Super dankje!
the climb rates awsome
FO. How fast dou wanna climb?
PILOT. Yes
what is the ferrari feeling ?
Boah i love the MD11
Awesome vid.
It's because of the hills, pilots have to make a right turn straight after takeoff to avoid them.
The power to weight ratio is 0.31, thats pretty standard for a jet!
I so want to go to St Maarten :( on a KLM MD11 if they are still in service..
woow amazing video
My favorite plane for obvious reasons...
those passengers were pushed back into their 💺 inertia
fast take off!
Eat your heart out "race car" videos!! 😎
Thats what I call acceleration :O
Wonderful !
Great vid
you mean DC-10?
